Fred was fantastic, thorough, and honest. He pulled absolutely no punches despite the fact that he was basically ensuring we were not going to buy the house we were looking at - and therefore, our agent, who hired him for us, is less than likely to be pleased with him. Throughout the process he took the time to explain problems he found and what they meant for the house as a whole. I'm deeply grateful to him for preventing what could have been a catastrophic mistake for my wife and I.

Overall the inspection went very well. I felt that Fred was very competent and professional, and very easy to talk with. I enjoyed his tutorial of the inspection process and learned a lot from walking the house with him. He took his time evaluating everything, and crawled to every single small corner of the attic and crawlspace, no matter how difficult to access. I very much liked how he didn't seem concerned with how long he was taking, he just systematically evaluated everything in the house, slowly and completely. He was honest about what he was going to report, and what were major things and what were minor things. I would certainly use Fred again for any inspection work, and will definitely recommend him to friends and family. I have walked with other inspectors in the past with other properties and now wish I had chosen Fred for those occasions.

The inspection went well. Fred and his partner came over and divided up the work, made it go faster. I felt they thoroughly inspected the home and answered a lot of my questions as we went through. I also like the report format- easy to read and understand. I was also able to follow-up with Fred and he provided me with the information I needed to know to make a decision.

Fred was exactly what we needed and wanted in a home inspection. We walked around with him through every section of the home and he answered all of our questions and even questions we didn't ask. He was very friendly and very professional. We received our report in a timely manner and it was filled with valuable information, external links for more information, pictures and suggestions. His knowledge of how homes are built and the materials used was astounding. I would definitely recommend him to anyone looking for a home inspection, whether pre-purchase, yearly, or before putting your hose on the market. Edit: Yes, our agent did tell us upon receiving the inspection that they called animal control : )

Fred is extremely thorough. It took 5 hours to inspect a 2500 sq ft home. He is extremely knowledgable and knows what year codes were changed that might apply to different parts of the house. During our two inspections I heard him answer several calls from other inspectors asking his opinion on their issues. He used to be on the NC board that certifies inspectors and he is still engaged in the NC association. Every year he helps organize an event where a set of seasoned professionals all inspect a home, and then more junior professionals inspect the home and compare their findings to the collective findings of the group so that they can improve their quality. He is very dedicated both to the quality of his personal work and to his profession. His reports are thorough and well-written with good quality digital photos of all major issues. He is also willing to talk by phone afterward to discuss the report. On the second home he inspected for us he ran out of daylight to inspect the crawlspace, and came back the next day at no extra charge. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Mr. Herndon did an exception, detailed job. He knows older houses inside and out and helped us come to the painful but necessary conclusion that there was just too much wrong with the house for us to move forward at the contracted price.
