They have done a really good job. They have been very thorough and very professional,. They have been able to work around my schedule and have shown up on time. They complete the work within the estimated time frame. The price listed included my whole four bedroom and two and a half bath home. The price is slightly higher because I do not have them clean as often. I have been very happy with their work. They also use all natural cleaning products and that was a key reason why I selected them.
Description of Work: I have had them do whole house cleanings on a periodic basis.

We are glad to be able to work with you on an as-needed basis. We appreciate your communication regarding scheduling and the specific needs for each cleaning. We can to do a free consultation if you would like to consider monthly services- this would be a fixed per-cleaning rate and put your cleaning on a recurring four week rotation. Of course, we are also happy to continue with the as-needed cleaning arrangement!

My husband & I hired Carpe Diem because of the good reviews on Angie’s List. We hope that our experience was the exception to the norm, but after repeated errors we’re not so sure. Our first experience with Carpe Diem was great, but on their second and third visits we found that they missed areas. In addition, on the third visit their cleaning team caused multiple carpet stains in a number of rooms. A member of the staff lied about the stains, and it took three days with our living room furniture spread throughout the house before everything was back to normal. And in the end, Carpe Diem didn’t compensate us appropriately. We were very satisfied with the job they did on our move-in cleaning and decided we wanted them to return on a monthly basis to clean the bathrooms and floors. The first time we had our monthly service visit we again were quite satisfied. The two folks who came were courteous & pleasant, and they worked hard and finished the job more quickly than anticipated. After they left I noticed that they forgot to the carpet in one of the rooms, but due to the layout of our main floor we understood how this was missed. When I called the office to let them know, they discounted our bill $5. Other than the missed room, they did a great job. We had a much different experience during our second monthly visit. After the three-person crew had been at work for about 10 minutes, one of them came downstairs and asked if there had always been black spots on the carpet in the upstairs hallway. I told her no and went upstairs to inspect it myself and discovered that toward the end of our upstairs hallway the carpet was stained with at least half a dozen black spots about the size of a quarter. I reported the spots to the woman who was the supervisor for the crew. She was cleaning one of the bathrooms with the woman who had just vacuumed. When I told her about the spots she was shocked and immediately inspected the problem. She then asked the woman who vacuumed what had happened and was told that the spots were already there. This was a fabrication. I then noticed that there were also spots in four of the upstairs rooms and on the downstairs landing, as well as downstairs in the living room which had not yet been vacuumed. The crew supervisor called the office and reported the problem, and then they got to work spot-treating the stains in an attempt to remove them. After the crew left, I noticed that they had again forgotten to clean some of the areas as originally instructed. The office discounted our bill $10 for the missed bathtub and floor. The next day, a company supervisor came over to inspect the damage done to our carpet. The spots in the living room had not been spot-treated so the supervisor was able to see the original condition of the damage. She told me that they would contact a carpet cleaning company to come and spot-clean all of the damaged areas, and clean in their entirety the two areas that were most effected – the upstairs hallway and the living room – as “goodwill” for our trouble. The carpet cleaning involved more delays and difficulty. The carpet cleaners came the next day but were unable to start the job. The hoses on their truck had frozen. We spent those two days with all of our living room furniture and play area for our newborn in disarray. We were hoping that Carpe Diem would be able to give us a free cleaning to compensate us for the inconvenience of the carpet stains, the inconvenience of having people in out of our house for three days, for being lied to by one of their workers and for having to continue to call their office to discuss these problems. Oddly, Carpe Diem thought that paying for the carpet cleaning – which wouldn’t have been needed were it not for their mistakes - was compensation enough.
Description of Work: We first hired Carpe Diem to do a move-in cleaning for our new home, and then decided we wanted them to return on a monthly basis to clean our (3) bathrooms and the floors throughout the entire house (vacuum the carpet and mop the hardwoods and tile).

Response from CARPE DIEM CLEANING
During the client's second recurring cleaning, our team leader called our office to let us know that there was an issue with black spots on the carpet discovered during the cleaning. The team was unaware of the source of the spots, however indicated that the client was upset and was accusing the team. We spoke with the client while the team focused on removing the spots. Because the client was upset and dissatisfied by the team's spot removal, we agreed with the client and team leader to leave several of the spots in one location so that they could be analyzed the next day. The manager arrived at the house promptly the next morning as arranged with the client. The client showed the manager the untreated spots, as well as the locations of the already-cleaned spots- including the living room, one stair, upstairs hallway, two bedrooms, & two bonus areas. While some of the original spot locations had a very faint residue, most were only noticeable because of the disrupted pattern of the fibers. There was no discernible pattern, or correspondence to the cleaning routine (not in locations where buckets were brought, did not pool or increase in areas where one may have stopped, not consistent with areas vacuumed prior to discovery). The manager was able to remove most of the reference spots and determined that the stain was a greasy agent- similar to a waxy crayon or mascara. The source was never discovered- all shoes and clothing of the team were checked at the time of the cleaning and at the office, as well as the supplies and vacuums. We did not find the spots in the team's car, back at our office, nor in any of the other homes cleaned by the team that day. Though we have no indication that the spots were caused by our team or products, we agreed to pay for a steam cleaning of all of the spotted areas to remove any residue and disruption to the fibers. For additional goodwill, we let the client know that we would pay to have the entire area of the living room & hallway cleaned. Client was upset that we could not pay to have entire home steam cleaned- mentioned that she was afraid she would find spots in other areas (which would not have been accessed by Carpe Diem). Client was notified that since the work Carpe Diem was paying for would more than cover the minimum steam-cleaning job size requirement, she could schedule the other areas of the home to be maintenance steam-cleaned at a substantially discounted rate- client declined. The steam cleaning was scheduled for the morning of the next day. Unfortunately due to abnormally cold temperatures, the pipes of the steam cleaning machine were unexpectedly frozen. The carpet service offered to move the client's living room furniture back for her, then put up again when they returned later to minimize her inconvenience of having the furniture out of place- the client declined. The carpet cleaning team was unable to contact the client when the steam cleaner was working again later that day (client had been home but had not answered door)- as a result they were not able to do the job that afternoon and the steam cleaning had to be moved to the next day. Once completely, the cleaning was successful at removing all of the residue & accomplishing a needed maintenance cleaning of the living room and hallway. Two weeks after the invoice was due for the original cleaning (already discounted for the bathtub and laundry room floor that were missed in the bustle of the stain removal), the client contacted our billing manager to request an application of $50 coupon to that invoice and also requested that the subsequent cleaning be fully discounted in light of the spots at the second cleaning. Despite the coupon no longer being applicable to that client (had already received a promotional discount and did not present coupon at consultation as required), we honored the discount toward the third cleaning once the client mailed the coupon in. We made every effort and have spent much time to treat this client fairly and generously- including taking care of the stains in a timely manner despite the lack of indication that they were caused by our company, adding a maintenance steam cleaning of two complete areas of the home ($150 value in all), and honoring a non-applicable $50 discount; however there is simply nothing more we can do to meet this client's inordinate expectation that we give yet an additional discount equivalent to one cleaning.

Everything went well, I've already moved so I had to coordinate getting someone to my house to let the cleaners in on the date of the appointment. The only snafu we had was they had the wrong address and were at the wrong house but we got that corrected quickly without further incident. The employees worked hard and did a very good job, they also cleaned everything I asked in the time period I asked for. The price was great, and included the Angie's list discount/coupon. I'm very satisfied with Carpe Diem Cleaning.

Overall, they did a good job, but every time they came out I would notice something that they didn't do to my satisfaction. I didn't bring it up every time but I brought it up after the first time they came. They said that they would take care of it, but it didn't really seem to help. It didn't seem like they were spending as much time cleaning the house as they originally estimated. It was hard to communicate with them. They were on time.

We are very sorry to hear that we were not meeting your expectations! We had incorrectly assumed that the issues had been resolved after we had responded to the first feedback with the team- we should have followed up with you again to ensure that the routine had properly adjusted to your needs. The housecleaning routine is slightly different from home to home, based on the surfaces, traffic patterns, and client preferences- we very much value customer feedback when we need to adjust the routine to better focus on the specific needs of the home. We are very sorry that your feedback was not properly addressed and subsequently your needs not met. We usually send out a supervisor to inspect and adjust the routine with the team when a need is not met on a recurring basis- this is what we should have done in your situation.

I contacted them by email and they had a coordinator for their jobs. She was very responsive and very prompt. She worked very hard to find us someone because I was asking for this to be done just before Christmas and I didn't give them much lead time. She found someone who wanted to work extra and they came on a weekend and that was really great. She described what was going to happen and that it was going to be a team. Three people came and they had a checklist of things that they understood were going to be done. They went through that checklist. It took them quite a while. This was a cleaning that I had been putting off and they worked very hard. I really appreciated that. I emailed her afterwards and she followed up. I thought the price was very reasonable given the work that needed to be done. She had prepared us for the general cost. Their advertisement stated they used green products, but it seemed that they brought general commercial products when they came to do the work.
Description of Work: We used Carpe Diem Cleaning to do a deep cleaning. They dusted everything, including ceiling fans, walls, counters and bookshelves. They swept the floors and washed the wooden floors. They vacuumed and straightened up. They cleaned the kitchen, including the floors, counters and cabinets. They cleaned the refrigerator inside and out. They scrubbed the bathroom and did deep cleaning on the grout.

I was a client for over a year with Carpe Diem. What started as a good relationship quickly turned sour in September '09 when the cleaners damaged my carpet with an malfunctioning vacuum. The machine overheated and burned two silver dollar-sized holes in my berber carpet. The company was responsive at first in trying to handle the situation. They sent out two people who investigated the damage and acknowledge fault but could not recommend any solution for a repair. The carpet was berber and could not be trimmed or patched. I was eager to work this out with them and even arranged for a rep from Empire Carpet (where I purchased the carpet) to come out and investigate. But after weeks of waiting and repeatedly taking time off of work to come home and show people the damage - the conclusion was that the damage could not be repaired. Because I am selling my home, I had no choice but to replace the carpet. I ultimately had to spend over $700 to purchase all new carpet. Believe me. I am a totally reasonable person and rarely get in heated battles with service agencies. However, Carpe Diem's unwillingness to take financial responsibility or compromise with me was intolerable. While I'm certain I could have recovered the entire cost of the carpet in small claims court, I didn't want to go that route. I suggested that the company pay for 1/3 the cost of the new carpet - $175. They refused. They only wanted to pay $125 because they argued that this amount reflected "the cost of the repair." I still do not understand their rational given that the damage was irreversible. There was NO repair option. I am stunned that they were so rigid and unwilling to contribute an additional $50 to help with $700 worth of damage that completely and totally originated from their own faulty equipment. In the end, I was just really hurt that they would treat a loyal customer with such little regard. Perhaps it was because they are a larger organization and didn't need my business (I have a small home). The bottom line...if you use Carpe Diem services, cross your fingers and hope that they do not cause any damage to your home because they will go through every measure to avoid taking financial responsibility. It's just not worth the risk in my opinion. I recommend using Town & Country Cleaning in Chapel Hill. They have been a pleasure to work with.

Response from CARPE DIEM CLEANING
As quality customer service is of paramount value throughout our company, we take it very seriously when a client is less than satisfied with any interaction with us. If damage occurs in a client’s home, we work directly with each client on a case-by-case basis to determine the nature of the damage and the best solution for the home. It is our goal and effort to resolve each situation in the minimal time frame possible with a quality solution. In this situation, a faulty vacuum belt did catch the carpet and cause the damage described. Standard protocol for most carpet repairs of this nature (that are not fixable by re-dyeing or professionally trimming the carpet fibers) is to replace the damaged area. Two carpet experts, including one of Carpe Diem’s reliable service vendors and a separate serviceman secured by the client (whose initial unresponsiveness to the client did delay the total resolution time) had both independently concluded that while replacing the damaged area could be done, it was not recommended because of the significantly aged and worn condition of the rest of the carpet (the intact fibers of the replaced area would not blend in with the existing fade and wear patterns in the surrounding carpet). Both recommended based on the state and condition (beyond the damage caused by Carpe Diem) that the entire carpet be replaced. Though Carpe Diem was not responsible for the need to replace the entire carpet, this caused it to no longer be the best solution to replace the area specifically damaged by Carpe Diem (although that remained an option). Additional solutions proposed to the client following this conclusion included a free carpet cleaning of the room (to get the carpet in the best state possible given its condition), the equivalent cash or credit value of what replacing the damaged area would have cost, or the percentage of complete replacement cost based on the area affected by damage caused by Carpe Diem. The greatest value of among these solutions was $125; per her request, a check was sent to the client for this amount. We have valued the client’s business with us over the past year and wish that she had seen our intent of fairness and satisfaction in the solutions offered.

They start with an in-home consultation during which a representative asks you to give them a walking tour of every room while they make notes. Our home is pretty straight forward, but I could see how a random closed door in a hallway may seem like a closet or a bedroom all the same. Although I initially thought the price was steep, I hadn't realized the detail to which they cleaned. The company did the initial thorough cleaning and then explained that the maintenance cleaning would likely be ~$100 and that they would rotate the "less trafficked" or "hard-to-reach" areas during the subsequent sessions. For instance, the crown-molding could be cleaned every 3rd visit, etc. I've agreed to a schedule of every 2 weeks. Their service was EXCELLENT! It was refreshing to come home to a spotless home. There are hardwood floors throughout the house and they looked marvelous after their visit. The team consisted of 4 women and my husband was taking care of keeping our dog out of their way during their visit. He said that they were very understanding of our "protector". Since their visit, I have received a follow-up email with an opportunity for future suggestions-but they were so thorough, that I didn't have much to add! Can't wait for them to come again!
Description of Work: Initial cleaning of a home we just moved into. Ceiling to floor cleaning of interior of a 2-story home (~2400 sq ft). Included all surface areas of kitchen (appliances, etc), crown-molding, baseboards, outside of cabinets, etc. They changed the sheets on the bed and asked for any specific needs that our family may have for future cleaning.

Carpe Diem cleaning has been absolutely fabulous! They are thorough, courteous, and responsive. I like the email reminders that our cleaning day is coming. Their customer services is also wonderful. I have used other cleaning agencies before and they didn't even compare to Carpe Diem. They are slightly more expensive (~$10/cleaning) than others, but it is worth it to me to know that my house has been thoroughly cleaned. I highly recommend!

Overall??? Did you read the previous paragraph? I could go on and list in detail the numerous things this cleaning group did wrong...including the rusty Brillo pad in the soap dish which they never touched...the dish was pretty disgusting. But I must close. You can guess the other answers to the additional questions below. OH, they charged me an additional $5.00 for supplies. What? Never mentioned that charge before.
Description of Work: This was supposed to be a "Deep" cleaning...a very thorough cleaning...hah!.The 3 women came an hour late...no phone call to alert me. There was supposed to be a "lead" cleaner who spoke and understood English well...Not! Unless she did understand and just didn't do what was asked. In the hour and a half they were at my 3 bedroom ,2 bath home they dusted AROUND items rather than picking them up and dusting them , then replacing them on a cleaned surface. The light fixtures were untouched. In fact they were unable to clean things that were higher than arms' length because they had no stepstool nor no extendable wand for cleaning the tops of mirrors , for example. They cleaned the top of my stove but never cleaned the drip pans. The mini blinds throughout my home were left in various positions..some fully down, some half down, some a quarter down! And the slats..some faced one way others faced the opposite direction. Oh yes I almost forgot to mention that the Header of one living room blind had fallen and broken and it was left exactly there on the floor. No one mentioned it. Realizing the disaster that this "cleaning" team were , I called Hannah at Carpe Diem to voice my concerns and my dissatisfaction .I thought she would ask to speak to the "head" cleaner. No way. Her comment to me was that almost none of their clients were at home when the cleaning crew was there!!! Oh, REALLY ?!!! She also thought that I was perhaps making them nervous. The women were pleasant enough...usually smiling...And I know enough Spanish to know that I was not intimidating them in the least. Hannah sent a clening crew back several days later to do what they ignored before. They went through the house like the wind and did try to make things right but in a half an hour , how much could they really be expected to accomplish? I hired this company because of the terrific reviews. Now I am beginning to doubt their authenticity and the true value of Angie's list .

Before the cleaning, this included an In-Home Consultation on 2/20/09 and standard phone discussions with the client while setting up the cleaning schedule (later requested by the client for Friday, 5/8/09). Additional communication regarding the client’s needs occurred with the team during the actual cleaning after our office was notified by the client mid-way through of specific cleaning process and method preferences. Finally, the complimentary Touch-Up cleaning performed by the Quality Supervisor the following Tuesday included the feedback items discussed with the client after the original cleaning. We wish that our services had been a good fit for the client. Initial client requests, our cleaning routine and company policies and procedures had been discussed as a part of the In-Home Consultation on 2/20. These discussions at the time included certain parts of the home that the client did not want to have cleaned, as well as an explanation of company scheduling and arrival range estimates, communication processes, cleaning procedures and charges. Much of this information is also available online and in the new client folder reviewed at the consultation and left with the client for reference. In our experience and ongoing attention to client feedback, we have developed a systematic routine in our house cleaning as to clean thoroughly and accommodate each home’s specific needs. The team made every effort to adjust the cleaning process mid-way to the client’s redirection; we then addressed the items missed in the transition at the Touch-Up cleaning. We ask that any specific process or method requests be addressed before the cleaning itself so we can best incorporate the requests into the routine as our crews are trained in a specific order and method of operations to achieve a thorough end result.

They came by about half an hour before the end of the schedule arrival time range. They stayed a few hours doing a very thorough cleaning. Everything looks great. The cleaners were very friendly. The floors look really good when they were finished. The kitchen was spotless. The bathrooms all look very good. The shower was really scrubbed down.
Description of Work: They dusted, swept/mopped, vacuumed, detail cleaned the kitchen and bathrooms, cleaned the refrigerator, baseboards. This was an initial cleaning. The scheduled cleanings will be $150.

I didn't have to be present to hire and have them do the job. Very pleased with that since I live in New Jersey. Also, I mistakenly paid the bill twice, but they called me and asked if I would like them to destroy the second payment! Thanks!
Description of Work: Move out cleaning of entire house.
