The repair was done satisfactorily. It was a quick visit and it was scheduled. I have called and they said they had someone in the area. They were able to do it fairly quickly. The price was average.

They were on time and they measured it. They made recommendations not to make any changes to the pressure. There is nothing I dislike about them.

The service went very well. The technician was very polite and professional.
Description of Work: Had a water leak in my garage, which started as a little leak, which I managed to stop. When I woke up the next morning the little leak had turned into a big leak. Called my home warranty company and they were not a big help at all. They did give me the name of the plumbing company they use; however, they did not respond to my telephone call not until Monday morning. The company suppose to be on emergency calls during the week and also during the weekend. Since I could not get the plumbing company, I called Brown Brothers and explained the situation and they came right out and made the necessary repair. Replaced bolt on water heater expansion tank. The repair was done on the weekend, which cost a little had it been done during the week.

COMPLAINT DETAILS: This is the exact complaint has file with BBB in our area. On 12/15/14 we had company come to our house to repair leaking hot water heater. We also had them re-route the overflow piping from the appliance to the exterior of the house. After completing their service and leaving the premise we found that water was not flowing through to our laundry machine and kitchen faucet. We had to call them to come back to rectify the problem. Plumber accessed Whirlpool Duet laundry machine (Model WFW8300SW00), after stating he was not an appliance specialist. Assume he cleaned sediment filter in machine. He also took apart the kitchen faucet to clean the filter there as well. Water then began to flow to both washing machine and kitchen faucet. Homeowner began a load of laundry to wash. Homeowner left the house for errands. Homeowner came home from errands to find the laundry machine had blown open, was still running and had flooded the entire downstairs of the house. Homeowner immediately shut down laundry machine and began removing water through use of towels and wet vacuum. Also contacted Brown Brothers and notified them of issue. 12/16 Emergency restoration team from insurance company arrived to install dehumidifier unit and high power fans to begin intensive water remediation. Plumber arrived to review problem, says they are not sure why the laundry machine would have malfunctioned. At this point hardwood floors, laundry machine (electronics) and potentially lower kitchen cabinets are ruined and need to be replaced. Homeowners have been in contact with plumbing company representative Jeff Hamlett who came to the house to review with homeowner insurance adjuster on 12/18/14. Insurance adjuster has stated they will not pursue any action against the plumbing company. Homeowner has a $2500 insurance deductible to meet to begin repairs caused by, in our opinion, laundry machine that malfunctioned due to plumber attempting water flow repairs. Homeowner also received bill from plumbing company dated 12/22/14 for $787.85 for 10.5 labor hours combined for two employees. Plumbers were not on premises more than 2.5 hours. Homeowner has been in communication with Brown Brothers representative on what actions the plumbing company would be taken by them to help rectify the problem homeowner feels was created by plumber errors and mistakes. The insurance company will not cover the cost of replacing the laundry machine because it was the source of the flooding problem. A new matching dryer must be purchased that goes with the new washing machine because they are stacking units. If the matching unit is not purchased and a different drying machine/product is used with the new laundry machine it will void the laundry machine warranty. Homeowner spoke to Brown Brothers representative on 12/29/14 and he stated their resolution would be just to split the plumbing bill of $787.85 in half with us to help make up some of the cost. Homeowner stated that was far less than satisfactory and expected a better resolution from the plumbing company. As of 12/31/14 no further contact has been made with homeowner by insurance company.

The Brown Brothers workman arrived right on time and was a pleasure to work with. He went right to work and completed the total cleanout within about 1 and 1/2 hours. He explained exactly what he was doing and ran the cleanout rooter over the clogged area several times to be sure that the line was completely clear and clean. He had us run several water sources within our house at the same time to be certain that the sludge that was cut up by the rooter was pushed out to the main line at the street. We were very pleased with the service and price for this plumbing service and would recommend this company for your plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Our sewer line outside of our house was clogged and bad stuff was backing into our downstairs bathroom. I called Brown Brothers at 5pm on Saturday evening. A company rep called me back within 10 minutes and a workman was scheduled to arrive at 9:30 am on Sunday morning.

Everything was perfect. I was charged less than half of what two other companies were asking. Jeff, from Brown Brothers , told me when he gave the estimate that it was possible that they might be able to make the repair without going into the street. He gave me two estimates. One for if his crew could repair without going into the street and one for if they didn't have to go into the street. The other two plumbing companies made no mention that they might beable to make the repair without going into the street. I had no idea when I purchased my home in Chapel Hill that home owners are responsible for sewer line even if problem goes into street. The crew did an excellent job in digging up azaleas and replanting them. Hopefully I won't need any more plumbing services but if I do I will only call Brown Brothers.

Things went very well. They did an excellent job. They were neat, picked up after themselves when they were done, kept me informed on what they were doing, and got it all done in one day which was nice. I had a good experience with them. The price was certainly not what I expected, but I have only lived in this neck of the woods and things are a little more expensive here than where I came from. I was a little bit surprised, but I think it was a fair price considering what they had to do. They were here when they said they were going to be.

When we were looking to purchase our current house, we very very concerned about an old septic system that seemed undersized, and we got several quotes for a connection to city sewer. Of the four quotes, not only was Jeff's quote from Brown Brothers the lowest quote, he also seemed the most experienced and confident about the hook-up. He proposed an approach that other plumbers hadn't considered and seemed least daunted by the task (I think at least one plumber gave an extremely high quote because he didn't want to deal with the complicated job). We ultimately decided to try and get by with the old septic system as long as we could. After about six months of living in the house, we started smelling a subtle methane smell anytime we flushed a toilet, and this became much more noticeable over the subsequent months. We had a septic "expert" come out to the house who couldn't locate the problem. We assumed this meant we finally had to make the connection, and we called Jeff. Jeff came out and was very willing to still do the hook-up, but wanted to be sure it would actually fix the problem. He scoured the grounds, and then came back with a partner to put a camera down the drain from the house. They ultimately located the leak from the bottom of the septic tank, confirming the need for the hook-up. The hook-up went incredibly smoothly. We have a tenant who had final exams, so he scheduled the actual day we'd be without water for after her exams. He gave a detailed day-by-day schedule when each piece of the work would be done. The first day, his large crew was incredibly efficient digging the trenches for the two-inch pipe. They are licensed utility contractors so were able to do the street cutting and connection to the city's sewer pipe. They coordinated well with the electricians putting in the electrical connection. The pump was installed without difficulty (after having had a six-foot deep hole dug by hand). We've now been using it for six months and it's been working wonderfully. The final price ultimately came in $2000 under his original bid. Communication was fantastic throughout the whole process and their were no surprises. They clearly were professionals who took pride in their work and wanted to avoid any missteps. I would highly recommend them if you have any similar complicated projects in the future.
Description of Work: Disconnected house from septic system and connected to city sewer. Several difficult features of hook-up - house below street level so required pump installation, significant distance from the street and house on steep slope so no way to get any heavy equipment around house and required cutting across concrete driveway and running piping under retaining wall

I met with Allen Whitaker of Brown Brothers Plumbing at a house I was purchasing so that he could prepare an estimate on the cost of running a water line and, possibly, a sewer line from the house to the city’s water and sewer lines in the street. Allen was punctual, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. He explained the process of tapping into the city water system and told me that once I fill out the paper work from the city and send it to the city with a check, it can take two to three weeks for the city to process the papers and make preparations for the plumbing work to be done. He recommended running the water line alongside the current driveway and suggested taking out at least the last block of the sidewalk where it extended into the driveway area. He said the sewer line could be added later if I decide to do so. The original ball park estimate of the price was $1700 to $1800 for the water line and $2200 to $2500 for the sewer line, if done separately. And I was told they could probably do both of them together for around $3300 to $3500. However, once the estimator had a chance to see the situation and account for the amount of "trenching" and plumbing involved, the price went higher. The final estimate was $2071 for connecting the water and $3170 for connecting the sewer or, if I decided to connect both water and sewer, a total of $5215. This, to me, seemed on the high side, but not unreasonable. Plus, Allen mentioned that they might be able to give me a better price if I had both water and sewer done at the same time, so the final quoted price may have been negotiable since the price on the written estimate was only discounted by $26 for having both water and sewer done at the same time. Unfortunately, due to multiple problems with the house that the seller refused to repair, we did not complete purchase of the home. If we had, I would certainly contact Brown Brothers Plumbing to do the work (although I might try to negotiate a lower price). Based on my interaction with the representative from Brown Bros and the many positive reviews on Angie's List, I feel confident the work would have been done in a timely and professional manner.
