Description of Work: Senior discount was advertised on Angie's List but when I requested the discount, I was told my job was too small to offer the discount. I paid about $500 to have 4 trees removed. Work was fine, some minor damage to my yard but that was to be expected. Mr. Smallwood very cooperative and I would hire again.

Description of Work: I was recommended to Black Bear Tree Service by my lawn service person. He stated that Black Bear (Bill Smallwood) was very reasonable in regards to price, and very professional in all aspects. Upon looking him up on the internet, I was very pleasantly surprised that he was listed on Angie's list, which made me feel more comfortable contacting them. Bill came out and gave me his opinion and an associated estimate. I had to contact my HOA for some larger tree(s) removal. Upon my HOA approval, we had problems due to rainy days, but we finally had drier days, and Bill and his crew showed up on time as we had planned. Bill started and continued to recommend various trimming, because the main goal of this service was to allow more sun onto both my front and back yards, to help grow grass. |Bill and his crew climbed various trees and very carefully either removed or trimmed trees, making sure no damage to either the house or property. They cleaned up and took all the cutting away, leaving the property very clean. |Some neighbors witnessed his work, and also had some work performed. I also today gave his name and number to a neighbor on the next street, who heard that I was very pleased with his price and work. |I would definitely use Black Bear again, and in fact if my neighbor uses him, I'm going to ask him for additional work. | |Nick Mescia

+ -1 more|I would highly recommend this company for their timeliness, professionalism, accommodating attitude and pricing was quite fair. They were here an entire long and fairly hot day and worked steadily all day as well. There was no doddling or lolly-gagging.
Description of Work: Bill responded within a couple hours at the most to my original inquiry. Within a day or so he wAs here to give his estimate. We needed deep pruning of many trees on a 2 acre portion of the property. As requested, I stayed the day with him and his assistant and we went tree by tree to decide which branches to thin out. I was being quite particular about what I wanted. | |Bill was more than patient and accommodating to my every whim and sometimes fickle decision making. That was very much appreciated as I and my fiancé were disputing completely cutting down a couple of trees vs. heavy pruning. (I won! :)

+ -1 more"Bill" cut down a very tall White Oak tree which was leaning toward our house and has been a concern to us for several years. He gave his best recommendation on how the tree should be removed without damage to surrounding structures or other trees, then quickly climbed the tree and safely cut it, a piece at a time, to the ground. I was shocked when he pointed out that the tree, although it appeared healthy last summer, was actually two-thirds rotten at the base of the trunk, so this service was performed just in time. He, also, at no extra charge, scaled another large tree and removed a large, dead, limb which was hanging over the driveway. We heat our home with wood so agreed to keep the remains of the tree, which also, no doubt, reduced the cost. We appreciated his professionalism, quick, friendly, caring service as well as the reasonable price. I have a chainsaw and may have been able to cut the tree down myself, but no doubt, not as quickly or as safely as he did. We will certainly use this insured and bonded company again and highly recommend them to anyone in need of tree service.

They finished the job by 5 pm. I was extremely happy with the work they did. I will hire them in a heartbeat when we need more tree service.

+ -1 moreThey were very prompt in gi ving me an estimate, which was 1/2 the cost of two other tree removal companies I contacted. The job was done the next day. The tree was completely taken down, cut up and all parts remo ved from my property. There was no additional damage to the landscape, the property was left clean as if there was never a tree there.

Description of Work: I had a fallen pine tree in the front yard of a rental house. I hired Black Bear Tree Service to remove the 30ft log and remaining 12 foot section still standing. They initially checked it out and called me back with the estimate. We agreed on a price and tree was removed within a couple of days. Guys were courteous and professional.

+ -1 moreWe are putting a pool in our backyard and thought that the pool company would remove the trees. On New Year's Eve we were told that tree removal was our responsibility. I called Black Bear based on the Angie's List score and Bill Smallwood, the owner of Black Bear, came out and gave us an estimate on New Year's Day. He removed two large trees and two smaller trees. He was scheduled to come out on the third, but was rained out. He called by 8 a.m. to reschedule. He told me when he would be out (a Saturday!) and was here and on time. He and a helper removed the trees one day and came back to grind the stumps on the following Monday. He could not have been nicer. They even tried to cover up the tracks that his heavy equipment made in the wet soil. I would highly recommend him to anyone. I wish all the people that I've used could be as friendly, punctual and professional as Mr. Smallwood.
Description of Work: The company fell two really large pine trees and a smaller hardwood tree. He removed those trees and another hardwood tree that had been knocked down. Then he ground down the stumps of all.

It much appreciated that Bill's helper was very conscious about quality. I have been meaning to write this excellent review since day one, just didn't get a chance to do it. One was a local man that was referred to me by my neighbour and I don’t recall his name, he came and his price was higher than this man’s and one did not respond to me. This one responded and gave me a little better price and he seemed more professional. I thought it was a lot of money but I after I talked to other people that had the similar services done I found that it was pretty much what people were charging. He came out that looked at the huge tree and told what it would cost and when he could do it. There was no obligation to that. I called him back later after I spoke to a few people. He made an appointment and he kept his appointment. He did a good job and he cleaned up. He was very professional and he had big powerful equipment. I will use this company in the future.
