Two Guys Tile & Design

My wife and I decided that we needed to update both bathrooms in our old house before attempting to sell. The rest of the house was in great shape, but the same could not be said them. After checking the list, I contacted several contractors and John was one of first to respond. Two days later, he came out took a look at the project, and had a quote to me the next day. I explained that I was working on a short time line, which he was fine with. After receiving two more estimates, I informed John that I wanted him to do the work and we picked a start date. John completed the work over the next two weeks. The bathrooms turned out fantastic and they definitely helped us sell the house. We just hated the fact that only got to enjoy them for a month.

John promptly returned our initial phone call and was always prompt and courteous. He had several very helpful suggestions and provided excellent service and responsiveness. John seemed to be very fair in his pricing and he went the extra mile to make sure we were happy with his service.

No show, no call, he just disappeared. John gave me a very reasonable estimate and helpful suggestions for the backsplash in April. By the time my tiles arrived in late May, he said that he was booked until July 5. He convinced me that he was worth the wait, and I believed him. At the end of June he called to say that he would be here on July 2. The next week he said that he had a death in the family and had to reschedule. I waited patiently and the work was finally rescheduled for August 9. He called on August 7 and said that he would be there on August 9 at 9:30am. That time came and went and I left two messages for him, on his cell phone and one on his home phone asking if he needed directions and giving my phone number. I never heard from him again. I am very disappointed, especially because my kitchen has been torn up since May, waiting for tile.

Overall a great experience. John is a true artist and craftsman and is a pleasure to work with. He brings a lot of great ideas and experience to the table but is very respectful of the homeowner's vision of the project. He is dedicated to quality work and will do everything in his power to ensure that you're thrilled with the finished product at the end of the job. We love our new bathrooms and are glad that we chose John for the job.

John did a great job. We had a snafu with our tile order, which prevented him from getting started when he had us in his schedule, but he worked with us, and got the job done. I highly recommend his craftsmanship, and he was always as concerned for our bathrooms as if they were his own. The other thing he did which was awesome, was stay in touch with us via email, as to his schedule, etc.

John installed porcelain tile for us in our entry, halls, breakfast area, and kitchen. He first had to remove existing ceramic tile and sub-flooring (a very messy job that was handled with the greatest of consideration as to not disrupt our daily routines) then prep and install new sub-flooring. The experience was excellent! He worked with our schedules (the tile was part of a major update to the kitchen, bathroom, and laundry room areas and he worked along side freshly refinished cabinets and the relocation of a laundry room with no problems). The whole project was finished on time and within budget. John's final product far exceeded our expectations and we have received only compliments from everyone that visits. I highly recommend his talents to anyone considering flooring work or any tile project (we found him through our neighbors and were able to see first hand his craft in progress prior to our project start up). I e-mailed first, through the address on Angie's List's web site. The e-mail went to the owner's wife, and she forwarded it to him. He responded via email saying that he had some openings in November and I should call to set up an appointment. I called and left a voicemail. We went back and forth through voicemails and/or emails for awhile and I was told, twice, that he would call me on a specific day to set up a specific time. Both times I received a call at least 1-2 days after the specified time, still with no appointment schedule offered. I gave up. I've since had three other quotes from other companies.

John was great to work with. He does a beautiful job of laying tile. He met with me for the estimate, reviewed my plans and quoted me a price. Once we were ready to go forward he helped me locate the place to purchase the tile and we established a start date for the job. The original date was delayed due to the fact the tile had not yet arrived. John worked with his schedule to find another date quickly. There were a few other minor scheduling glitches but nothing out of the ordinary. His work is beautiful. He's truly an artist who cares about his work. Each time he left the job site, he cleaned up and made sure everything was neat. He even personally helped me out with the shoe mold when I couldn't find anyone to do the job. John will tile for me again and I hope to remain in contact with him as a friend.

Never did follow up. John came out to the house, measured for the master bath and we talked about ideas. He said he would get back to me with a price. Got an e-mail a few days after saying he would get back to me - never did. I sent him an e-mail saying we were ready, but haven't heard back from him. I know he thought we were maybe too far for him, but he did come out and I would have appreciated it if he just came right out and said he couldn't do the job.

They did a good job & were very thorough. They even had to come out after the job was done to repair a broken tile & did a good job with that as well. Overall, I am definitely satisfied with this company.

John Gaskill was a true professional. I can't say enough good things about him and his work. He and his right hand man, Dan, were with us for just shy of two weeks for his portion of our full scale bathroom remodel. John is truly an artist with tile. We couldn't be more pleased with his work. In addition, he and Dan are gentlemen and it was a pleasure to have them in our home. I would highly recommend John for any tile job, and would certainly use him again in the future.

John Gaskill and Danny far exceeded expectations in the work that was done over 3 different projects within 1 month. John's incredible knowledge in tile and what works is superior and Danny, his apprentice, is also very talented. They were most agreeable and willing to do whatever was asked (even did some caulking around the tube and redid tile when the design was found to be incorrect without question). They are eager to satisfy the customer but will also guide you into tasteful and appropriate choices when asked. The work was reasonably priced and well worth their experience. John was most agreeable to work around some upcoming events in our home. He and Danny are very honest and I had no qualms about leaving them in my home unattended. They also kept close touch with my parents who were overseeing the work in our absence. I just wish I had more projects for them to do and would recommend their work without hesitation to all of my friends and have done so already. Thanks!

John promptly returned my phone call regarding an estimate and showed up close to the scheduled time on a Saturday to look at the job. He was an extremely nice person and seemed knowledgeable about what needed to be done. He explained that he is primarily a tile guy, but could refer us to carpenters, plumbers, etc to do the other work. He promised us an estimate by the middle of the following week, but then called to say he had been sick and would send it in a couple of days. He called back and left a message one more time apologizing and promising to send the quote shortly. That's been over 3 weeks ago and we haven't heard from him since. I seriously hope nothing is wrong since he was such a nice guy. I have to indicate that I would not hire in the future since I never received a response on this job.

A VERY PLEASANT AND SATISFYING EXPERIENCE. JOHN GASKILL WAS PROFESSIONAL, PROMPT, THOROUGH AND METICULOUS. HE HAD ARTISTIC IDEAS AND SUGGESTIONS WHICH WERE WELCOMED; HE AND DANNY MAKE A GREAT TEAM. HIS PRICING WAS REASONABLE AND I WILL USE HIM IN THE FUTURE. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TEAM.

JOHN IS GREAT TO WORK WITH - HE OBVIOUSLY CARES ABOUT THE SERVICE HE PROVIDES AND CUSTOMER SATISFACTION AND WORKS HARD TO PROVIDE A GOOD EXPERIENCE. HE WORKED WITH ME ON KEEPING COST DOWN (I ORDERED MY TILE ONLINE AND HE PICKED IT UP FOR ME AT A WAREHOUSE IN TOWN), AND DELIVERED A NICE FINISHED JOB.

JOHN DID BETTER THAN AVERAGE WORK, BUT HE WAS PRETTY DIFFICULT TO WORK WITH. I FOUND HIS PERSONALITY TO BE QUITE GRATING; HE WAS EXTREMELY OPINIONATED AND ARROGANT. I HAD HOPED FOR A BETTER WORKING RELATIONSHIP, BUT WAS DISAPPOINTED. HE TRIED TO ADD SEVERAL UPCHARGES FOR ITEMS WE HAD ALREADY DISCUSSED AS INCLUDED (LAYING TILE ON THE DIAGONAL, REMOVING A COUPLE OF SMALL SECTIONS OF DRYWALL) AND ASKED FOR 2 ADVANCES ON A JOB THAT TOOK LESS THAN 1 WEEK TO COMPLETE.

THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST HOME REPAIR/REMODEL EXPERIENCE I HAVE EVER HAD. JOHN WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH, HIS PRICES ARE INCREDIBLY REASONABLE, AND THE RESULT IS MORE THAN I COULD HAVE EXPECTED. HE IS DEFINITELY AN ARTIST. HE MADE SUGGESTIONS FOR DESIGN AND LAYOUT THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE THOUGHT OF. HIS UNIQUE TOUCH HAS RESULTED IN A FLOOR AND A BATHROOM THAT ARE TRULY OUT OF THE ORDINARY. I WOULD ENTHUSIASTICALLY RECOMMEND HIM TO ANY OF MY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS. IF IN THE FUTURE I HAVE OTHER TILE WORK TO BE DONE, I WOULD WANT JOHN AND NO ONE ELSE TO DO IT. I FEEL VERY LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND HIM.

JOHN DOES EXCELLENT TILE WORK, AND IS VERY HELPFUL IN SOLVING PROBLEMS RELATED TO WORKING WITH A 40 YEAR OLD HOUSE. HE IS WONDERFUL TO WORK WITH, AND GOES THE EXTRA MILE.

JOHN WAS GREAT TO WORK WITH. I HAD GOTTEN THREE OTHER ESTIMATES AS WELL AS JOHN'S, AND HIS WAS VERY FAIRLY PRICED. ALSO, HE MADE DESIGN SUGGESTIONS THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE THOUGHT OF, AND THAT ALL OF THE OTHER PEOPLE WHO GAVE ME ESTIMATES TOLD ME THERE WAS NOT A WAY TO DO! HE WAS ALSO GREAT IN HELPING ME PICK OUT THE GROUT COLOR. AFTER THE TILE WAS LAID, HE BROUGHT SAMPLES AND HELPED ME DECIDE. SOMETHING NO ONE ELSE WOULD DO. ALL THE OTHERS SAID THEY DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH PICKING OUT GROUT! JOHN'S APPROACH TO TILE IS MORE LIKE AN ARTIST (BY THE END OF THE WEEK I WAS CALLING HIM PICASSO!) IF YOU'VE GOT SOMETHING DIFFERENT IN MIND THAT EVERYONE ELSE TELLS YOU CAN'T BE DONE, HAVE JOHN LOOK AT IT, HE CAN DEFINITELY THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX! WAY TO GO 'PABLO'!

I ASK JOHN TO PROVIDE A QUOTE FOR A BACKSPLASH. HE SCHEDULED A TIME TO DO THE QUOTE, AND THEN CANCELLED, RESCHEDULED, AND SHOWED UP AT AN UNSCHEDULED TIME. HIRED JOHN TO DO THE BACKSPLASH. HE SCHEDULED A TIME, CANCELLED AND RESCHEDULED. HE CALLED AND CANCELLED A SECOND TIME. WE HAD A HEATED DISCUSSION. HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE REASON FOR THE SECOND CANCELLATION WAS DUE TO A LACK OF CHILD CARE FOR HIS CHILDREN. I OFFERED TO WATCH HIS KIDS FOR HIM, SO HE COULD DO THE JOB. HE PROMISED HE WOULD BE HERE THE NEXT DAY. HE CALLED ABOUT HALF AN HOUR BEFORE HE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE HERE AND SAID HE WOULD NOT DO THE JOB, AND WOULD NEVER TALK TO ME AGAIN. THROUGHOUT THIS DISASTROUS EXPERIENCE, JOHN CONTINUOUSLY TOLD ME HE WAS A STANDUP GUY. DON'T BELIEVE IT.

JOB 1: THIS IS THE SECOND TIME (HOUSE) WE HAVE HAD JOHN INSTALL TILE FOR, AND HIS WORK IS FANTASTIC. WHEN WE HAD A PROBLEM WITH OUR TILE (WHAT WE RECEIVED WASN'T QUITE WHAT WE EXPECTED AND ABSOLUTELY NO FAULT OF JOHN'S) HE WORKED TIRELESSLY TO HELP US GET IT RESOLVED, WHEN HE HAD NO OBLIGATION TO DO SO, AND STILL HAVE THE INSTALL COMPLETE BY OUR DEADLINE. THE RESULT WAS A MORE BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE FLOOR THAN I COULD HAVE IMAGINED. I HAVE A BACKSPLASH AND TWO BATHROOMS TO DO EVENTUALLY, AND JOHN WILL BE THE FIRST ONE I CALL. JOB 2: THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I'VE HAD JOHN INSTALL TILE AT OUR HOUSE IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. HE AND DANNY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. HE EVEN SAVED US A LITTLE MONEY BY SHOWING US HOW TO SEAL THE STONE AND GROUT OURSELVES.

THEY WERE VERY RESPONSIVE UNTIL THE VERY END OF THE PROJECT, AS FAR AS TYING UP LOOSE ENDS, THEN THEY WERE SLOW TO RESPOND.

HE DID A FABULOUS JOB! HE WAS FAST AND DID A BEAUTIFUL JOB. I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE SERVICE HE PROVIDED. VERY REASONABLY PRICE, MUCH BETTER BARGAIN THAN SOME OF THE BIGGER INSTALLATION "SHOPS" OUT THERE.

JOHN DREW HIS DESIGN IDEA ON PAPER AS WE CONSULTED AND HE PERFECTLY CAPTURED THE EFFECT I WANTED. HE'S NOT ONE TO SHY AWAY FROM ANYTHING NON-STANDARD, WHICH MAKES THE JOB HARDER FOR HIM TO INSTALL. HE'S SO CAREFUL AND PRECISE WITH THE INSTALLATION AND THE RESULT IS BEAUTIFUL AND SOLID. HIS PRICE WAS EXTREMELY REASONABLE, ESPECIALLY FOR THE QUALITY OF THE WORK. THE BATHROOM HAS BEEN TRANSFORMED FROM SOMETHING THAT WAS OPPRESSIVE INTO SOMETHING TRANQUIL.
