We emailed John to have him come to our house for a quote for several projects. He was slow at responding but finally made it to the house. He took some notes and said he'd get back to us with a quote within the week. We never heard from John. We emailed him again to remind him that we wanted the quote, and he gave an excuse about why he hadn't yet, and promised over the weekend that he'd get that quote to us. More than two weeks later, we never heard from John. I recommend trying somebody different. John has since told me about something in his personal life that could have affected his service. While my story is still true, I'm sure that it could have been different if the timing wasn't bad for his personal life.
Description of Work: We never had work done, see below.

Wow.... After explaining several times that my specialty was ceramic tile and stone, she was still wanting me to take a look at the work that she wanted. Out of the kindness of my heart I agreed. She had a "wood" waynescot in a bathroom as well as a "wood" faux wood panel ceiling planned for her master bath... I am guessing those that specialize in that trade were still not up to snuff as she still tried to make me do the work. I tried to round up those that specialize in that field as a favor and unfortunately was unsuccessful. It is not my fault. I "clearly" don't advertise to be anything other than what I am which is one dynamite "tile" guy... I am sorry if she felt I was giving her the brush off, when all I was trying to do was please someone. Next time might I suggest looking under a heading of those that work in wood? Yes. I am frustrated. I am also sorry to those looking for my services that might be jarred by this members comments. I am hoping you all can see past this as maybe just a person whom was just frustrated? Blessings

On the initial visit we discussed demo option (remove just the vinyl and 1/4 board or also one layer of plywood - to be determined when the demo started), tile layout, type of tile, shopping options, the schedule and then John measured. The quote included the different demo options. When they arrived to start the project it was determined that the plywood removal would be difficult due to replacement of the island over the existing plywood by a previous owner. Since we were only removing 1/4 inch and vinyl there would be a height difference which posed a potential problem with an old trash compacter and wine cooler. So we decided to remove the trash compacter it, tile that section of floor and add shelves. The wine cooler was a fraction too tall and had to be replaced. The job from start to finish was 5 days with minimal disruption to our lives - which is hard to do with dogs. The floor looks great.
Description of Work: The kitchen floor tiled - required removal of vinyl and 1/4 board. Installed 5 inch molding.

Very easy to work with, professional. I had a last minute work commitment come up and I needed to shift the hours/days for the job and they were able to move things around for me and still do the work in the same week. Very clean! I have had other people leave my house a bit of a mess after tile work and I truly appreciate tidy contractors.

He came when promised, delivered what was expected (estimate) and was a pleasure to speak with...just a good guy.
Description of Work: I asked Brian to provide me with an estimate for some renovations to my bathrooms. I caught him at a bust time, bu the seemed genuinely intereste in the work and came to my home on the weekend. He is a confidence inspiring guy - he has great ideas, listens well and has great references....I ultimately elected to use another provider ONLY because Brian has a commitment during the time I wanted the work completed (but thankfully, he was forthright enough to say he could not complete the job during that time, which prompted me to write this review on his behalf!) Next opportunity, John gets one of the first calls, no doubt.

The project turned out beautifully. With an old house, I've found nothing is as simple as it first appears. That was certainly the case with this project! We found extensive water damage to the subfloor, old lead piping that had to be replaced, and even a couple of main supporting joists that had been completely cut through during a previous "remuddling." Looking back on it, it's a wonder no one ever went through the floor while taking a bath or using the toilet! All of this had to be addressed first before any tile could be laid. But I'm very glad it was: it has given us peace of mind and having a "skeleton" that is rock solid and perfectly plumb helped the tile work to turn out splendidly. Through it all, I was extremely satisfied with their craftsmanship and attention to detail. I was equally pleased with John's artistic "eye": he understood our vision and created a plan that completely completely met it.
Description of Work: John Gaskill and his associates did a complete remodeling of the downstairs bathroom in our circa 1915 Craftsman bungalow. This entailed laying tile on the floor, the walls and the shower enclosure; replacement of tub, vanity and toilet; installation of new electrical outlets and fixtures; and hanging cabinets on walls. (I handled the painting and minor woodworking myself).

Thanks so much for the kind words... I will give you a call about this, but according to the report, it looks as if there is no Bathroom "after" shot? You might want to call Angies List about this as they may not have posted it... The 1920's style is really what we were going for and we sure did hit it. I loved doing this project and I look forward to any you would have in the future. Blessings to you kind friend. John Gaskill.

We have worked with other tile installers who are all about installation and nothing about design. Our floor design concept was somewhat risky and John was great at helping us bring it all together. That included selecting just the right shade of tile to go with all of the new cabinetry and appliances. He showed us a really nifty brick pattern layout that made it look even better and was very patient while we hemmed and hawed over grout color. Pick the wrong shade and the floor was going to look crazy! But, we ended up with a great looking floor. John had to deal with kids and a very hairy dog (not good for fresh grout) while trying to get tile down in the most high-traffic areas of our house. We look forward to him coming back in a few weeks to help us design and install the back splash in our new kitchen. He already has some good ideas, even if he doesn't like the wall color I ended up choosing. ;)

I spent about $400 on that work. They did a good job once I got them here, but they kept cancelling on me which was an inconvenience. I would not use him because of that. I would tell others that their tile work was acceptable, but because they rescheduled at least three times that made it very difficult.

You know what. I am sorry. I sometimes stretch myself thin. I am not quite sure why it took a year to tell your story, but none the less, I did reschedule TWO times... I met with John about 5/24 to discuss putting tile floor in my home. The meeting went great. He gave me a lot of great ideas and suggestions. We discussed the different options of how to place the tile since the current floor was also ceramic tile. He explained the finishing work he does with his tile work, how he prices his work, and he took measurements. A few days later, I received the estimate, we discussed it, the cost was agreed upon and the deposit was paid. The job was scheduled to take 4 to 5 days. John was helpful in picking the tile for the floor and kitchen backsplash, along with getting items for a decent cost. Work was scheduled to begin 6/7. Due to an issue with supplier, the tile did not arrive until about 10 days after the work was schedule to begin. John had a couple of personal issues that delayed the job. I needed the work done by 6/28. John and I had a discussion regarding the delays and the completion date. The work was completed 6/26. I was very pleased with the job he did.

I had purchased tile that I wanted to install in my master bath and guest bath. I decided not to use the company that I purchased the tile from for I felt their estimate was too high for the job. I found John on Angie's List and called him for an estimate. He came out the next day, e-mailed an estimate that night and started the job the following week. He wanted to finish a job he was working on. John installed ceramic tile with glass tile accents (which can be a little tricky to do). The overall amount included the prep work (toilets and doors were removed to make it easier for the install), tiling, grouting, supplies and clean up. Tiling can be a messy job. He reinstalled everything after completing the tile. He has a great eye for detail and did an exceptional job making sure the tile was installed evenly and level, not easy to do when the walls are not plume. He made suggestions along the way, and as a result, I had enough tile left over to do another upstairs bathroom. I could not be more happy with the results. There were a couple of days when John had to attend to his family which delayed him somewhat, but not a big issue at all. He was back on the job the next day. John knows his business and it was a pleasure to work with him on my project. Thank you John!

John's work is excellent. He offered a lot of great design advice, and we're super pleased with the finished product. I did ding him a bit on punctuality -- John had a series of things come up, which extended his timeline estimate a bit. I do believe it was purely bad luck, and not a reflection on his professionalism. It would not stop us from hiring him again. Thanks John! --Jess and Brad

John was thorough and detailed in his estimate and he stuck to the price quoted. The labor for the job was $1800 and we were responsible for purchasing the tile and grout separately. John did allow us to share some of his discount with the Tile shop so it helped with the overall cost. We scheduled a 4 day job with 1 day dedicated to demo, 2 days to tiling, and 1 day for grouting/shoe molding. The first day was a quick demo. John arrived with his associate and, within 3 hours, they had removed the old floor and shoe molding. Day 2 started on time and John and his associate worked the whole day laying the tile and cutting the trim and doors to accommodate the tile. They moved quickly and spent the time to make precise cuts around door jams and corners, finishing about 2/3 of the area by the end of the day. Day 3 started off rocky as John's associate did not show up when scheduled and, in fact, did not show up for the rest of the job. However, John apologized and worked hard to complete the job on the timeline promised. He completed most of the tiling on day 3, performing the cuts as he laid the tile. Because his associate did not return to the project, the 4 day job was extended to 4 1/2 days. We had requested to paint the shoe molding and John offered to take it home on the 3rd night to complete. Grouting was completed on day 4 and John was able to stick to the timeline on the last day to complete the shoe molding. John was available before and throughout the process to answer questions and address concerns that we had with the job. He was definitely concerned about our satisfaction throughout the job, asking for feedback, and even bringing me lunch one of the days. We had to finish the project ourselves by caulking the shoe molding/baseboard interface to finish the room. The overall look of our new flooring looks great. We were definitely pleased with the project and we've had him quote us a tile job for our other bathrooms.
Description of Work: Removal of linoleum and shoe molding for approximately 350 sq. ft area, including the kitchen, breakfast area, 1/2 bath, laundry room, and mud room. Install of porcelain tile floor and shoe molding.

This was an A+ experience from start to finish. When we found ourselves ready to remodel the last of three bathrooms in our 30 yr old home, we decided to use a bit more professional help. We had done the other two ourselves, but this time we wanted to find a remodeler who could do the bulk of the heavy-lifting for us. John Gaskill of Two Guys Tile & Design really fit the bill. Beyond simply the physical labor associated with old tile demolition (all of which he did himself, with minimal mess), John really showed a knack for design and provided many helpful suggestions from wainscot height, to tile choice and of course tile lay-out. This included making extra trips to Daltile and The Tile Shop for us when we were feeling truly overwhelmed with choices, selecting three themes including floor tile, wall tile and accent pieces and then delivering them to the house for us to pick from. Can't tell you how helpful that was! The real payoff came when we saw the tile he had suggested for us on the walls and floor, now that's service. John also saw the project through to completion with the two trips it took to get my IKEA vanity installation correct. I can certainly recommend Two Guys Tile & Design for projects involving bathroom remodeling and expert tile work. All services were professionally performed with an emphasis on prompt and courteous communication. John always called to let me know what time he would be there, and gave me plenty of warning when schedules needed to be adjusted (flu season!). Actually, it was his courtesy in communicating with us throughout the project, perhaps even more than his obvious tile-setting skill, that most aptly recommends Two Guys Tile & Design to the busy homeowner looking for a reliable and trustworthy remodeler.
Description of Work: This was a small bathroom remodel job. John demo'd the existing tub and shower area tile, then provided the complete rough-in work which included reinforcing and leveling the subflooring. John then provided some expert design services including tile and grout selection. Finally, John installed the tile and then helped install the new vanity.

After looking on Angie's List, we called a few companies to find the best company to help us. After talking with John Gaskill, we made an appointment to get an estimate for the work we needed done. John discussed our options and gave us a written estimate. He was very thorough and answered all of our questions. He explained which items we would need to purchase. He then gave us a written estimate which included the items he would supply along with the labor charges. We had a linoleum floor in the bathroom, and were going to replace it with Congoleum. After talking with John, he recommended that we look at ceramic tile before making a final decision. We are very glad that we followed his suggestion, because the new tile floor John installed in our bathroom is beautiful! John gave us a time frame of 3 - 5 days that would be needed to complete the work. The work was completed in a timely manner, and on a schedule that we were all happy with. John put up new drywall where it was needed, painted the bathroom, and installed new baseboards and molding. He explained how he would lay out the new flooring, and made sure we were happy with the design prior to the installation. We purchased a new vanity, blinds, mirror, etc. for the bathroom which he installed. He recommended a plumber who did the work needed for the remodeling, and we were happy with that work as well. John installed the flooring in the closet along with new baseboards and molding. He removed the old closet fixtures and installed a new shelf and clothes rod, and painted the closet. Throughout the whole process, John explained everything he was doing and asked if we had any questions. We are very happy with the new bathroom and closet, and would be happy to have John help us with any future remodeling needs.
Description of Work: After having a major plumbing problem fixed, we needed to have the floors in the guest bathroom and a closet replaced. We also needed to have a repair made in the wall that connected the bathroom and closet. We decided to go ahead and do some remodeling in addition to the repairs.

We asked John to come out and provide us with an estimate for a minor kitchen remodel. He was punctual, extremely professional, and quickly turned around an extremely competitive quote. My wife and I were particularly impressed with his ideas and suggestions for dressing up our kitchen. The only reason we ultimately went with a different service provider was because of timing-we needed the work done right away and unfortunately John could not start until about 5 weeks later.

HE HAD CALLED ME THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING. I WAS ON A TILE JOB WHEN HE HAD CALLED, FINISHING A BEAUTIFUL BACKSPLASH FOR ANOTHER MEMBER. I HAD GOTTEN TWO OTHER CALLS BACK TO BACK. I HAD DISCUSSED WITH HIM THAT I WAS EXTREMELY BUSY, BUT I WOULD BE WILLING TO MEET WITH HIM ON SATURDAY. I JOTTED HIS INFORMATION ON A PIECE OF SCRAP PAPER IN THE FRONT SEAT OF MY TRUCK. IT WAS TURKEY DAY, MY KIDS WERE AT HOME, MY WIFE WAS CREATING DINNER, AND ON TOP OF THAT, MY MOTHER IN LAW, LOL, WAS IN TOWN AND YES, I SLIPPED AND FORGOT ABOUT YOUR APPOINTMENT. I GET TO EVERYONE AS QUICK AS I CAN AND I AM SORRY THAT YOU GOT THROUGH THE CRACK. I CALLED YOU ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS ONCE I HAD REALIZED MY MISTAKE, AND EVEN OFFERED YOU A SUBSTANTIAL DISCOUNT FOR MY IMPERFECTIONS. I TRULY CALLED TO SAY " I AM SORRY". I RECEIVED NO CALL BACK FROM YOU. I WOULD BE MAD TOO. I HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE "F" ON AN OTHERWISE PERFECT REPORT. John does the job right - he wants his work to stand out and be admired when it is completed. If you want the final result to be something you can look at and enjoy, and really trust the workmanship, then John is your guy. I spent time just watching and learning, and talking with John. He is upfront and open and will tell you what he is doing and why. He is not there just to finish the job and make a buck, he has pride in his work, he does it right, and he won't cut corners. There is certainly a large part of artistry, and alot of heart that goes into everything he does. John came in and put up cement backer board around the fireplace (gas, vented fireplace installed to replace the original FPs that had crumbled when the house was renovated). He tiled each fireplace, and came back another day to grout. When I altered the design and ordered extra tile for a border, he came back and finished the job on another day, on his own time, to really make it a masterpiece - all at no extra charge. He is a very conscientious, and either called or emailed if or when he had to adjust the schedule. His family comes first, and he is upfront about that - school was canceled one day b/c of inclement weather, and he called to tell me couldn't make it - he has his children to care for. We arranged another date and he was there when he said he would be. I appreciated the call, and it really came across as being responsible and considerate, and that he cared about me as a customer. I've hired too many other people in the past to know that when "life happens" on their end, I'm the last to know, usually a day later, and left hanging, just waiting and wondering where there are. That is not that case with John. I absolutely recommend him, and will use him again. He loves what he does, and that is apparent in his work. He is a good person, he is honest, and he is a true craftsman at his trade.
Description of Work: I had John come out and tile two corner fireplaces. First of all - the workmanship and skill are top notch. I have an old craftsman home, which has been renovated, but still has alot of character, i.e. there are no straight line and 90 degree angles around here. The fireplaces are beautiful, and really took alot of thought, planning, know-how to get it right before even starting.

He was pucntucal at our meeting and provided the bids we were seeking.
Description of Work: HEcame out to bid some bathroom remodels. He had creative ideas and was an EXCELLENT price performer. In the end we felt we needed more overall guidance so went with a general contractor, but would definitely work with him in the future.

IT WAS REALLY COOL TO HAVE HER AS A POTENTIAL CLIENT, HOWEVER WHEN IT COMES TO THE PRICING, SHE MUST HAVE GOTTEN ME MIXED UP WITH SOME OTHER BID, BECAUSE MY PRICES ARE NOT THAT HIGH. I AM JUST AN OLD HIPPY WHOM LOVES TO SET TILE AND IF I AM NOT MISTAKEN IT WAS CLOSER TO 3,200.00. THANKS FOR THE PLUG THOUGH GIRL, AND GOOD LUCK TO Y'ALL IN THE FUTURE. THANKS, JOHN GASKILL.

It was the best experience we have ever had with a contractor. John Gaskill came to give an estimate, and recommended two different tile shops that we could use and get his contractor pricing. We selected and paid for the tile (great price) and John put us on his schedule for the next week. He arrived on schedule to do the job, completed it in five days as he said he would, and by far exceeded our expectations. He is a perfectionist and will not accept any less. He helped us decide on design issues with the tile layout, and made sure every aspect of the job was perfect. When he was finished laying the tile and sealing the grout, we wanted the shoe moulding reinstalled. The contractor that John had recommended was not available so he went and bought the moulding, rented the tools and reinstalled it himself. At the end of each day, everything was cleaned up, tools put away, and John planned the project so we didn't lose the use of our kitchen for even one night. We are extremely happy with the finished product and John is coming back in two weeks to do another room.
Description of Work: Installed new ceramic tile in our kitchen, laundry room and pantry; 460 sq. ft. Also, put down new shoe moulding when tile work was completed.

HE IS A BUSINESS OWNER HIMSELF. PROBABLY ONE OF MY TOUGHEST CRITICS. I TOTALLY SATISFIED HIM AS YOU CAN SEE. HE WAS REALLY COOL AND WATCHED OUR EVERY MOVE, AS YOU SHOULD. HIS PROJECT WAS A LOT OF FUN TO DO AND I CANNOT WAIT TO GET CREATIVE WITH HIS KITCHEN BACKSPLASH AS WELL. I LOVE WHAT I DO AND WHEN I AM IN THE ZONE, MIRACLES HAPPEN. WHEN I PUT GOD FIRST ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD. THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND WE WILL SEE YA ON THE NEXT ONE....THANKS, JOHN GASKILL.

Original time estimated for the job was 4-5 day. He showed up on the first day and announced that he had reserved two days of the next week to complete the job but this was never agreed upon. He then announced that he must leave early every day to play with his children "because they are his top priority". The next day he did not show up and for the rest of the week he only showed up every other day because he said he was ill. Then next week he did not show up two days again because he said he was ill. The days he was here he left early. During the grouting of the tiles he went through my kitchen drawer (uninvited) and used my good kitchen rags and towels. When I noticed this I gave him old rags to use (not keep) but I never saw the towels and rags again. After he left the job we found that he had broken a valve on the washing machine (moving the appliances) and water was leaking. He has not replied to our email about the bill to repair the washing machine. Overall John lacks a sense of professionalism and responsibility even if his tile work is good.
Description of Work: Removed old vinyl floor and installed new ceramic tile and back splash.

IT WAS AN OFF WEEK FOR ME BECAUSE I FELL TERRIBLY ILL. I HAD TO PAY EXTRA FOR ANOTHER TILE MAN TO ASSIST ME JUST SO THE JOB WOULD GET DONE ON TIME. I PAID FOR THIS EXPENSE OUT OF MY OWN POCKET. I DID FALL TWO DAYS BEHIND BUT OFFERED HIM EXTRAS SUCH AS BRAND NEW THRESHOLDS "WOOD" AND MILLED HIS DOORS FOR A PERFECT FIT."FOR FREE". I NEVER EVER WENT THROUGH HIS DRAWERS AND I BELIEVE THAT HE WAS ONLY UPSET AT THE FACT HIS WASHING MACHINE HAD A DEFECT AND WHEN I FOUND OUT FROM HIM THAT THAT WAS THE CASE, I WAS OUT THERE TEN MINUTES AFTER HIS CALL ON THE SAME DAY TO ANALYZE THE SITUATION. I FOUND OUT THE UNIT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND SUGGESTED THAT HE CALL THE MANUFACTURER OF THE UNIT. I FOLLOWED UP TO MAKE SURE THE REPAIRMAN CAME TO FIX IT AND NEVER HEARD ANOTHER THING ABOUT IT. PREVIOUS CONTRACTORS HAD GIVEN THEM DEALS, AND I FEEL I WAS UNDER A MICROSCOPE THE ENTIRE JOB. AS A GOOD WILL GESTURE I EVEN REPAIRED ITEMS ON THE FRONT PORCH THAT WERE DONE WRONG BY THESE OTHER CONTRACTORS JUST TO BE NICE. "FOR FREE". I GUESS NICE GUYS FINISH LAST. I WORKED 9 TO 5 EVERY DAY I WAS THERE, AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT ONE THING, MY KIDS DO COME FIRST. MERRY CHRISTMAS. RESPECTFULLY, JOHN GASKILL.

GREAT!!! I cannot say enough good things. John Gaskill returned my initial call within a day and visited my home within 2 days of talking. He gave me an estimate within 24 hours and gave me the amount of tile needed. We visited the tile store where John has a contractor's discount and picked out the flooring for each room. WOW! Between John's labor cost (the amount shown here as spent) plus the discounted tile cost, we could not beat it with a stick! John's schedule and ours was a perfect match. The work took a week which is what he estimated. He worked in the rooms in such a way as to inconvenience us as little as possible. John analyzed the sub floor to determine the backer board needed which was different in the kitchen area. John takes great pride in his work and as such, did the all the tile laying himself. He had someone to assist with the demolition and other tasks. John is enthusiastic and passionate about his craft. He is a true craftsman!!
Description of Work: Installed natural stone in two bathrooms, ceramic tile in foyer and porcelain tile in the kitchen and laundry room. Removed old linoleum and tile floors from these rooms.

This is John's 3rd trip to our home to do tile work. While the project took a little longer than planned, the end result is well worth the wait. We provided the materials and John worked a master piece blending the tile pattern into the existing brick work. Hope to see him again for a 4th project. B. Austell

I had used John on another tile job earlier in the summer and knew he knew what he was doing. He was very helpful in deciding what color and type of tile would work best in this area. He is very friendly and easy to work with and willing to take suggestions. He protected everything in the work area and cleaned up daily.

Great...John and his assistant were in out and as planned. The project only took about 3 days. They were careful to not damage any other area of house moving washer and dryer in and out of utility room. They cleaned up after themselves daily...you hardly knew they had been here.
Description of Work: Removed baseboards in utility room and closet and installed cement board over existing floor and then installed ceramic tiles I provided.
