I can not describe how impressed I am with James Talmage and the The Pest Control Authority!!!!! James clearly loves doing what he does, and described everything he could do, and what he was doing! If I ever have any issues with critters in my house, I will be calling James. He went above and beyond, and I will remember it! You can not put a price on the quality of service that I experienced.
Description of Work: I called on a Friday afternoon cause I was hearing noises in my attic. I set up an appointment at 11 am Monday morning for someone to come out and take a look. James Talmage came out Monday morning right at 11 am to take look. He told me I had squirrels! He gave me the opinions that I had, and what would work best. At that time, he set up the trap and explained to me all about the trap and how to tell when there was a squirrel in the trap. Each time it went off, I called to let him known, and he was there within the hour; or if I noticed late at night, he was there early the next morning. After a couple of days of no action, James took down the trap and completely sealed the area where the squirrels were entering my attic. It has been two weeks, and I have not had anymore problems with squirrels.

Approximately 3+ months ago, we discovered that we had a squirrel in our attic. It had got in through the vents to the outside of our house. It had chewed through the mesh screen behind the vents in order to obtain access to our attic space. We repaired the screen and assumed that that would be the end of our problem (as we didn't see the squirrel again for several days). How wrong we were! Several days later, we saw the squirrel again and discovered that he had chewed through our repair. It was then that we decided we were going to need professional help. We called three companies -- two that are listed on Angie's List and one that was suggested by our local animal control. We decided to go for The Pest Control Authority because, unlike the other companies who expect you to pay for each day that they come out to check the trap, The Pest Control Authority only requires you to pay for *each animal that is caught*. It took nearly a week for any of the squirrels -- yes, squirrels -- as in more than the *one* that we assumed we had! -- to take an interest in the traps. Had we gone with either of the other companies, we would have already owed around $350 for each of the (7) days that they would have had to come out and check those traps! Our tech was Greg H. Greg was very knowledgeable and professional. He took the time to explain the squirrels' habits, behaviors and the various trapping methods that he could use to help us. He came out to inspect our attic in order to see how and where the critters were getting in. Because we have young kids, he started out by placing humane traps on our roof. He was very careful and conscientious that our kids not be upset by the trapping of the animals. I truly appreciated that! Fortunately, we were able to catch two of the three squirrels using the humane traps. We did end-up having to use a tube trap (lethal) to catch the last squirrel, but Greg made sure that he took care of it when the kids weren't at home. From start to finish the job took 4+ weeks! Every time we found an animal in a trap, we called Greg and he was able to come out within 24 hours to remove it.
Description of Work: Inspected attic area for wildlife (squirrels), placed traps and then removed trapped animals. Discussed methods for preventing further infestations.

When I initially contacted "The Pest Control Authority" I asked for them to come out and give me a written estimate on how much it would cost to remove the squirrels from my attic. Rick the owner came out and gave me a verbal estimate of $165 for setup and inspection and another $55 for each animal captured. He also mentioned doing roofline exclusions as a future preventative measure but he never gave me a written estimate for any of this work. I paid an initial deposit of $165 and they captured 3 squirrels at a cost of $55 each. I had initally asked that the squirrels be caught live after Rick told me how they humanely released the animals several miles away. I soon changed my mind though after one of his employees came out and terminated the squirrel which took several days to live trap. Rick also had one of his employees come out and do exclusions as a preventative measure. I phoned Rick on two separate occasions to ask him how much I owed for this work and each time he told me $450. My inital deposit of $165 plus the $450 for the squirrel capture and exclusion work that Rick said I owed comes out to $615. But the bill that "Pest Control Authority" sent me totalled $815 which was not what we discussed. After talking with Rick he did reduce the amount by $100 to $715 but this was still more than I had expected to pay for the removal of 3 squirrels and roof exclusions. The owner Rick Seifert is a nice guy but I think this misunderstanding could have been prevented he had given me a more accurate estimate and one in writing.
Description of Work: Rick, the owner came out and did an initial inspection and setup the live traps to catch the squirrels. Pest control authority did catch three squirrels in and around my roofline. They also performed partial roofline exclusions to all my roof corners, garage and inside and outside mitre above the front door.

Response from The Pest Control Authority Inc
February 18, 2010 I was disappointed and somewhat confused by his recent evaluation of my company’s services provided to him from 12/3/09 – 12/17/09. From our initial phone conversation through my original two hour inspection to his entire attic and roof areas and home, I was very clear that there are two distinct and separate aspects and costs to wildlife control. The first involves the trapping and removal of wildlife which was one specific set up charge of $165.00. (I waived the inspection fee as a courtesy to an Angie’s list referral)and a charge of $55 for each time we come and remove a target pest (in this instance squirrels). The second aspect is repair and preventive construction measures (exclusion) taken to prevent re-infestation by similar and other wildlife in the future. He works out of his home so I took great pains in showing and explaining in specific detail: • Where there had been extensive squirrel activity over the years. • The entrance areas the squirrels had previously and were currently using. • The fact that he has a large home with attached two car garage with a roof style that has guttering around the entire perimeter of the dwelling. This was important because there was a construction gap of 3-5” along this entire roofline perimeter of over 200’ (where the roof decking that holds shingles did not contact the fascia that holds the guttering) allowing for easy animal access. • That this gap is more pronounced at roof corners and other construction junctions. • That the squirrels had chewed through his plastic gutter guard. • The cost to properly remove the gutter guard, custom flash the entire perimeter and reinstall the gutter guard would be over two thousand dollars in addition to trapping. • That was the only way we could guarantee against re-infestation as he lives in a heavily wooded area with a large squirrel population. He said he did not want to spend that type of additional money at that time. I gave him the option of only sealing the most pronounced (likely to be attacked first) areas at the four corners of the house, three garage corners and two areas above the front door and at chimney for $625.00. We negotiated that exclusion cost down to $450- $500 depending on time & materials. I relented in an effort to provide a somewhat more permanent solution and to please an Angie’s list customer. One squirrel that was trapped was humanely put down as it had broken it’s leg and was partially frozen from being trapped at night in December. I also personally drove from my home in Mooresville to his home on a Sunday to release a male cardinal that had inadvertently gotten into a live trap (3 ½ hours round trip) at no charge. I billed him exactly that which we had discussed several times i.e. $165.00 set up, 3x$55 per animal and $485.00 for the time and materials of the partial exclusion. When he called I took responsibility for any misunderstanding for not putting everything in writing and asked if I reduced the price another $100.00 would he be happy. He said he would and paid. My company put in over twelve man hours of on-site work at his home in seven trips. Most of the time he was there, I visited his home personally three times and talked with him on the phone several times explaining and re-explaining procedures and costs. These hours don’t even include travel time, overhead or cost of materials. I lost money on this job but that was my fault – I did what I felt was the right thing. Dealing with wildlife is complicated, dangerous (think falling from an icy roof in December as well as bites, rabies, etc.) and time consuming. I am thankful for our high grades in all other areas but saddened that he did not see that the excellent service at what turned out to be rock bottom prices was well worth the cost and his continued support.

Extremely well. From start to finish, we received outstanding service.
Description of Work: They setup traps for two racoons we observed on our back roof the week before Christmas. Initial setup was completed very promptly, the same day we called for service. Follow-up visits to remove critters were also handled very promptly. In one case, they arrived early on Christmas eve. On another, they responded early on a Saturday morning.

We went to Lowes and bought some supplies to seal an opening behind our laundry room. We humanely caught the few mice that we had.
Description of Work: Josh Handy came right away (within 24 hours) to help inspect our home as a snake had come in and 2 mice were found. He checked for entry points in our basement and gave us many suggestions as to how to proceed to seal our home (ourselves) based on what we found. He did not advise or charge us for more than what we needed to manage a small problem- that felt huge! We had used the Pest Control Authority last year and met Josh then when we had a problem with European Hornets and received the same quality, professional service. Josh is knowledgeable, thorough and personable. He explains things well and offers options.

They always do an excellent job and they send the same individual to work on our home each time so he's very familiar with any past issues we've had. They take their time and do a very thorough job. Their office staff is also very pleasant to work with and they offer flexible appointment scheduling. If any issues come up between quarterly servicings, they handle them for free and are very responsive.

The overall experience was great, as good as it could have been, considering the critters who were trying to move in with us. Chris was extremely knowledgeable, professional and courteous. He explained everything he was doing and why he recommended it.
Description of Work: Chris, the wildlife control specialist, came out to the house and did a thorough inspection to determine all of the potential entry points for wild animals and pests. He found that we had several loose or tattered screens/vent covers, our dryer vent was completely detached from the side of the house, and our crawl space door was damaged and on one hinge. He also found evidence of bats in the space above our screened-in porch, snake skins in our crawl space, evidence of mice inside our home, a rat's nest in our crawlspace, and a place where squirrels had tried to get into the attic. Yikes!

Excellent, as always. Josh does a great job of educating you about insects and what he's doing to get rid of them. He pointed out two reddish mounds in our yard that were caused by cicada-eating bees. He told us they look really scary but don't cause much, if any, harm to humans--very reassuring.
Description of Work: Josh came out to spray for insects, esp. spiders; also sprayed back yard for mosquitoes. They use chemicals that don't have any harsh odors. I've heard that they spray lots of offices, hospitals and nursing homes and I believe I've seen their trucks outside the Y--they're known for being very safe.

Mike showed up at the specified date and time and made a cursory walk around and through my house and basement. Did not locate or identify any of the areas where termites had been previously working. Did not even have a flashlight. Mike clearly was more of a salesman only. The price quote given was in the middle of the range of (3) quotes given.
Description of Work: Mike Seiffert came out at the agreed upon day and time and did a very trivial inspection and was more concern with quoting a price for the cost of termite treatment. This company may do great work; but, when Mike got out of his truck without a flashlight, I knew I was not going to be as impressed with him as I have been with others. I elected to go with another company which did get in there and find the evidence of termites and was more proactive.

I'VE WORKED WITH THIS COMPANY BEFORE, AND CALLED JOSH ON SUNDAY TO REPORT THAT I SUSPECTED WE HAD TERMITES. HE WAS THERE ON MONDAY MORNING AT 8 AM; CONFIRMED OUR SUSPICIONS AND GAVE US AN ESTIMATE ON TERMITE TREATMENT. HE HAD A CREW AT OUR HOUSE TO PERFORM THE TREATMENT ABOUT A WEEK LATER. ANNUAL FOLLOW-UP TREATMENTS WILL COST AROUND $150. JOSH IS AN EXCELLENT REPRESENTATIVE--HE'S VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD AND KNOWLEDGEABLE; WILLING TO EXPLAIN VARIOUS TYPES OF PESTS, THE PROBLEMS THEY CREATE, AND HOW TO TREAT/ELIMINATE THEM. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.
