SouthEnd Painting and Roofing Contractors

My contact started out great with SouthEnd Painting. Chris came over and gave me a reasonable estimate for the work I needed done, answered my questions when I called him, and gave me a rough estimate on how long it would take to complete the job. It took me a couple of weeks (on my end) to reach out and schedule the job. After it was scheduled it went down hill from there. The crew showed up late the first day, I saw and spoke to the head of the crew on the first and last day otherwise his crew showed up On time (they were nice) over the course of the next 4 days, I had to explain every day what needed be done and sometime it was hard communicating with crew, they painted windows and then shut them instead of letting them dry, they just painted over nail pops( instead of sanding them first), let paint drips stay on the wall, etc. It also took them longer than expected to paint 1200 sq. Ft. For the money I paid I felt like I shouldn’t have to follow the crew from room- to room checking everything all day long. I’m still finding things that I need to fix from them being here such as paint on my door trim because it was not taped off properly. I would not recommend SouthEnd Painiting

We have had great success using Angie’s List. Please believe me when I tell you that Southend Painting and Roofing is not worth the aggravation. The salesman did come out immediately to quote the job. We split the painting into 2 jobs because of the amount of work we wanted done. The salesman was older and sweet but didn’t know what he was talking about. He promised A LOT but it was a sales pitch and it worked. They were the highest bid but he really sold us. When the crew came out, they did the job and the crew leader gave us his number if there were any issues. We did have problems that needed to be fixed so we called. The crew leader was great but COVID hit and we had to shut everything down. The end of June came and we called Southend back to see if they had a plan so that we could finish the other half of our interior. I called them 6 times and my husband called 3 times. We got the sweet receptionist who PROMISED a return call by the end of the day. That never happened. Finally, we got hold of the Marketing Manager. He was able to at least get some movement since we had signed a contract and felt bound to it. I called the crew leader and he was great. We exchanged several more calls with the crew leader and finally got the job finished this week. They wore masks and were quick and efficient. They are an extremely respectable crew. Southend didn’t even tell them the correct amount we owed on the job so we had to wait while they tried to get the correct number from their office. My point is that, in my opinion, Southend Painting as a company is untrustworthy, unprofessional and will try to sell you. I’ve been in sales all of my life and it showed me how critical it is that I know my company and am not just after a commission. Again, the crew we had which I was told is one of 6, was good. But you have to have leadership running your company that is honest and service conscious. In my opinion, Southend Painting is not a good company.

Great, Luis and Jackie worked quickly, they protected other parts of the house, they cleaned up all in good time!

First of all, I'm a residential and commercial building contractor and deal with numerous tradesmen on a daily basis. In this instance, I was working out of state on one of my projects and needed the interior of my own home painted. As a contractor, I try to monitor all my jobs personally so I know the job gets completed correctly and expeditiously. I was pleased with the job the SouthEnd crew completed. From beginning to end, the job took three days. The crew worked meticulously and completed the job to my satisfaction with military precision. Great job and I will not hesitate to use their services again in the future. Thanks.

This company sent a man with his wife/girlfriend to paint, repair roof, gutter, trim, siding & power wash! No one is that much of a “Jack of all trades!”It took 4 weeks bcz most days they didn’t even show up & when they did, their hours were from 1-5! They left all the trash in the yard and the power washing has to be redone bcz they left dirt in huge places all over the house & garage! They left places on the trim without paint & the caulking they did could have been done better by an orangutan! The woman could not speak ANY English & the man very little but they were sent to work on my home without ANY supervision! I had to constantly supervise & communicate what was suppose to be done ( i did not get paid to supervise these individuals (it was not my job or responsibility) but no one from South End showed up or would respond to phone calls or texts! I have been in touch with both the salesman & owner & they both reacted in a manner that presupposes that they have a right to dictate what they will do even if I don’t agree or approve! I thought the customer was always right? These people/ this company are the very kinds of companies that are featured on 60 Minutes where they expose companies that people should avoid like a plague! I truly do not know how this company got ANY “A” ratings but trust me, don’t be fooled, avoid this company unless you want work done that is subpar & has to be done over by someone else! If you choose this company for ANYTHING, be prepared to hire another company to redo or repair the damage that the inept, unqualified, cheap labor that this company uses has done! And do not hire this company for any task/job unless you are prepared for an endless nightmare & double the expense bcz all of the work will have to be redone by someone else!

They sent an estimator to review and estimate the project. He said it would be several days before they would get back with me with an estimate. After about 5 days of not hearing anything, I emailed the estimator (he had no phone number on his card), but never got a response. Several days later, I contacted the company via their website, but no response. I then called them and had to leave a message for someone to contact me, but no one ever has. Pretty bad; do NOT use these people! Update: They did contact me, but not until after my review posted and as I found out, they had used an incorrect email address to send me an estimate, which bounced back to them. This is why I didn't initially receive the estimate. So, I'd like to upgrade this to a C, because after not hearing from them, I tried to contact them 3 different times and did not hear anything until my review was posted.

Great job - the crew was here early and worked tirelessly until the job was complete - 3.5 days. They left the house and deck looking great, and cleaned up well before leaving.

They were great start to finish. Chris communicated regularly and the project manager was fantastic. So, net is they were the best price by far and the results are great. Thanks guys

Had to watch over this crew doing the job. Painter on job seemed to have a hard time doing what I wanted on every request. I have a cedar home and crew tried to replace fascia and soffit with pressure treated wood instead of cedar as discuss in contract. Was suppose to be hand brushed but used sprayer. Damage front gutter from ladder and told owner but nothing was done to correct it. Not the type you can trust to do the right thing to correct a wrong on their part.

The estimate for the work that was required was not good. I was under the impression more wood work/replacement was going to take place. They sealed and bonded some of the effected areas but replaced very little of the wood. So basically the house was pressure washed and I only asked for the front of the house trim to be painted. I honestly do no feel I received $1500 worth of work. My advice is to get a clear and concise estimate before work is started.

Overall it went quite well. Everything was done over a 4 day period starting on a Monday. The biggest problem was the popcorn ceiling in the bathroom. The ceiling needed some care and attention because of a roof stand pipe leak a few years earlier. But it looks great now. The crew spent most of the first day getting supplies, doing wall prep work like spackling all walls, moving furniture we hadn't moved, and working on the bathroom. The next day they smoothed the spackle, covered furniture, and began painting. I was really impressed by the ceilings they painted. They took great care to cover everything to keep paint off the carpets and furniture. By Wednesday most of the wall painting was complete, and most of the baseboards and frames were done. The rooms where we changed the color got a 2nd coat of paint. They did a great job with the baseboards in the carpeted areas even though I'd told them we planned to replace the carpets soon and not to worry. The crew held off on the master bath until Thursday morning when the ceiling was ready for paint. They worked daily on the bathroom ceiling. It needed multiple stages of repair, usually having to dry between stages. Thursday the SouthEnd crew concentrated on the master bathroom finishing the ceiling, walls, and baseboards. They wrapped up any loose ends and put all the outlet covers and wall switch covers back up. They did a good job with cleanup. I was really impressed, but have to admit that as we moved furniture back and rearranged things, there was still a good bit of cleaning to do that was beyond what I expected of them. They had offered to arrange a cleaning service to come in and detail thing. I think I would take them up on that in hindsight. Yasmine and her crew of three really did an nice job. I found one 6 panel door in the office that was missed on the back side. We and they had missed it in the walkaround just because the door was open when we came in the room and it was the only door we'd contracted to have painted. I contacted SouthEnd and Yasmine came by Saturday and painted the door. So it really wasn't a problem. I must admit this is a bigger job that I planned. I didn't realize how disruptive having so much of your house painted at one time could be. The SouthEnd crew was great in ensuring things were put in place so that we had enough rooms that were useable to be able to stay home. And they ensured we could move around. Don't shortchange the amount of time it will take you to prepare for the painters. My son and I spent the weekend before removing paintings, decorations, shelf items. av equipment, computers. It's unbelievable how much you have to get out of the way for a major paint job. Luckily we had a garage, an addition room, and spare bedroom to fill with the items we moved around. We'll be recovering items and putting things back up for weeks. Also, think about your pets. We had one dog we shuffled around the outside and in various rooms. But surprisingly she seemed to have no problem with the painters. Just needed to be kept out of the way. My last note is related to planning for follow-up work. The painters did a great job. Things are much updated and the baseboard and trim work make things really snap again. But they also highlighted how bad some of our flooring looks. And how much we needed to upgrade faucets, lights, and fixtures in the bathroom. So our to-do list actually grew as a result of a great paint job. Also, because of ceiling and wall color changes, we had to replace blinds in 3 rooms immediately.

No quote received after over a week since consultation. I guess they didn’t want my business?

Alex was a good listener & helped explain the satin sheen shows more imperfections, than flat. Overall the house looks Great& so clean. The Crew cleaned up,was careful,no paint splatters anywhere. Impressed by Alex & company!! Thanks

While the subcontractor painters were very nice and for the most part kept me informed on any issues, the work overall was sub par. The painters were here until almost 7:30pm so they could finish in one day. I inspected the work before they left and found a few (obvious) places they missed, which they fixed. However the lighting wasn't ideal at that time of day in my house. Upon further inspection this morning, and in better natural light, I found a lot of mistakes. There were spots in the powder room that they missed completely and it looks like only one coat of paint was applied to the walls. I can see the old paint color (which is white) through new paint (which is a light tan). Also, you can see brush strokes on the walls - not just in the corners - in the middle of the wall. Shouldn't a paint roller have been used? I now have to go back and redo it myself. And, I will have to sand in a spot where 3 areas of paint ran down and streaked the wall. I did mention this to them and they told was due to the A/C. He took his paint can and a brush and try to fix it. It happened again. Maybe you should have used a paint roller!! I've never had that (the running/streaking) happen before. They also didn't remove the A/C vent in the powder room when painting or the light plate. The same thing is true for the guest bathroom. Some areas around plugs in the family room were not painted. In the guest bathroom, I found a few areas on the wall that I have to fix and the vanity is a disaster. The is a brand new unfinished wooden vanity. I told them it had not been sanded yet. They said they would take care of it. They didn't. They also didn't prime it. So, the wood just drank the paint. The coats of paint are uneven and some areas just look white washed. I now have to redo the whole thing myself. I have to sand down the paint they did, prime it and paint again. I hire painters so I wouldn't have the do this myself. Yet, here we are... I asked about how it (the vanity) looked before they left - I had found a spot that wasn't even painted. He took his brush in full paint can and painted the unfinished part and stroked over a drawer they looked like it barely had one coat, and said when it dries it will look fine. I felt forced to fill out a review card while he was here and didn't feel like I could be open and honest on that card. It was awkward. I have been in the process of renovating my home over the past few months and things have been going great until this paint job. Overall, I am extremely disappointed in this service.

Had to call the company because they said someone would start the job between 8 - 10 and no one showed up. They finally showed up at 1. Once they were there they did a good job. But then again stated they wouldn't be back for a couple of days because they had to finish another job. I would say just finish jobs before starting another one. Once they finally concentrated on our job they were great! Finished in 2 days. Would recommend to others.

Excellent work performed by the crew. The work was completed as promised in 3 days. Each day the crew cleaned up before they left and we were informed that they were leaving and what time to expect them the next day.

Absolutely perfect from the beginning. Tommy Leblanc showed up on Tuesday, March 27, to work up our quote. He is the best. He's the kind of guy that you'd want to have for a grandfather. He took a lot of measurements, gave us some advice and tips, and sent us a quote with a fantastic price the next morning. As the price included a 25% discount if approved in 3 days, and we had already received 2 other quotes from other contractors, we went with Southend. We got a call from Southend a few days later and scheduled the start of our job for Wednesday, April 18. Between March 27 and April 18 we made two separate additions to the original job. First we added the replacement of three thresholds and the repair of some baseboard. Next we added the painting of our hall bath. Both of these resulted in change orders to the original job as well as additional cost. Tommy even came back on his day off to get us the quote to paint the hall bath! In both cases the costs were reasonable. Southend called on Monday, April 16 to let us know that our crew was delayed on their current job and would it be OK for them to start our job on Thursday the 19th, to which we agreed. Our crew leader was Benito and he and his crew of 2 showed up Thursday at 9:45. They immediately got to work, only stopping for lunch, and finishing the day around 5:45. 5 guys showed up Friday morning at 9:30. They thoroughly covered everything with drop cloths and plastic. They worked until 6:15, only stopping for lunch. I'm not sure if 4 or 5 guys came Saturday at 8:30 along with Benito. They worked straight through until 1:30 when the job was finished. We did a walk through with Benito and everything that we pointed out (which were all minor things) were promptly taken care of with no fuss or ado. We were extremely happy with the results of the work, the hard work of the crew, Benito's leadership, the politeness and professionalism, and the clean-up that the crew did. Everything was fabulous and all deserve praise and recognition for a job well done. We could not be happier

Tommy the salesman is the sweetest, but don't let that fool you because the people that come are nothing like him. The first painter that was supposed to come showed up so late, I was already gone. Then they sent another crew who was punctual and completed the job, but left spots unpainted, paint everywhere, and damaged personal items. They broke a sculpture of mine, and glued it back together, and never said anything about it. The owner, Todd, initially called as soon as he got my email with the pictures I had sent, and said that he would send a different crew to finish the job, and would said me a claims form for my damaged and broken items. The SAME crew came back and touched up all the missed area. They tried to remove the paint splatter off of my blinds and banister (the areas that remained painted), but there is still paint on them as well as my chandelier that they didn't attempt to do. After another email and phone call, I still didn't receive a response from Todd on his statement to make everything right, so I filed my own claim against their insurance policy. The first adjuster called, and advised that she spoke to Todd herself, and he told her that they had fixed all the problems, and a claim wasn't needed. I advised that paint was touched up, but he didn't no anything about my items that were damaged by the paint, as well as a broken figurine that was broken when they moved my bookshelf. A new adjuster is suppose to be coming out to my home to view the damages, and I'm still waiting on them to confirm a time. It's amazing how the owner, Todd ( Southend Painting) tried to cover it up, and haven't made any attempt to rectify the situation (damaged /broken items) on their own. I am disgusted with them, and mad at my self for paying with a cashiers check so I couldn't put a stop pay on the check. I would never recommend them to anyone!!

The painting crew arrived in the morning of the day we had scheduled. They were professional and very competent. The painters took care of all of my furniture as they moved things to paint. The walls are neat and smooth. The trim (crown molding and baseboards) look new. The work is excellent. I am very pleased with the services of SouthEnd Painting.

Went well. Good job, cleaned up well, polite and thorough.

The job was done in two stages; first pressure washing, and then a day for the painting process. Everything was done according to the quote and was performed professionally. I would not hesitate to have this contractor do additional work at my home.
