I called Mr. Roger's Windows on Tuesday 9/24/13 to get an appointment for an estimate for replacement windows. I told the gentleman on the phone we were looking at having this done in the spring, but wanted to get a general idea what it would cost with enough time beforehand. He informed me they had an opening the following day on Wednesday and we set it up for 6 pm. He told me the appointment was set for 90 minutes, but it probably wouldn't take that long. He told me they will measure our windows in that time and go over their product. 2 salesmen arrived on time that Wednesday and were very nice, BUT they took 3 HOURS of our time, not the 90 minutes or less that we were assured of the previous day over the phone. At the end of their presentation, after maligning anything made of vinyl or aluminum, we were quoted for 37 windows $52,000.00. I knew that was way too high and a lot more than we were willing to spend. After telling them 2 or 3 times during the evening, we were planning on doing this in the spring, so that we could work out our finances they tried to entice us to have the work done in December. If we did, they would give us a 17-20% discount knocking the cost down to $46,000.00. We were told we had to make a decision that evening to get that specific discount. We told them we were not willing to make a decision that quickly without any thought into it. They then gave us until the following Sunday (end of the month) for a slightly smaller discount. The next day, I did some homework (something I probably should have done before the meeting). They were quoting $1405.00/window before discount & $1243.00/window with discount. After doing some research I found this was an over quote of $605 & $443 respectively per window. According to 2 independent contractors I spoke to and several window expert sites on line, not affiliated with any window company, even the best window should not cost more than $800.00/window, including this particular product Mr. Roger's was selling. Interestingly enough, Andersen, who Mr. Roger's Windows represents for the composite product, also sells vinyl & aluminum windows, 2 products that Mr. Roger's said were no good. I found that interesting. Does Andersen Windows allow their approved dealers to bad mouth any type of product they sell? Also, noted, there is no actual evidence that composite windows are completely superior to any other type of material. They are too new to the market to determine that for sure. I cannot attest to their service, I'm sure it is fine, but my issue is their attempt to literally rip us off. I certainly don't want them to continue to practice these sales techniques on anyone else. Windows are an expensive enough item for a house. Our house is only 11 years old with builder grade windows of which 3/4 of them have gone bad at some point in the last 6 years & a manufacturer that doesn't easily honor their warranty, hence our decision to totally replace them with something higher quality. This was certainly not an expense we anticipated having when we bought the house as we bought it brand new, so to have a window company try to rob us made the whole issue even more upsetting. My advice to everyone is to do your homework so you know what you SHOULD be paying per window and what the labor includes. Some companies may charge a whole lot less than our quote, but sometimes they will sock you with additional fees for things you thought should be included. Don't ever make a decision the same day as your meeting. It might be tempting to say yes and commit right then and there, but that is usually when you are the least informed. Take the time to at least do homework afterwards as well. I'm sure this sales practice is not unique to Mr. Roger's Windows, but the fact that they are a large company that has been in business so many years, makes it that much more disappointing. Response from Renewal by Andersen of Charlotte
Thank you for your review. I often tell window shoppers to do their homework and shop other window companies just like you recommended. The unfortunate story of your 11-year-old home with 75% failing windows is one we hear almost every week. That’s why I created my unconditional performance guarantee. So that homeowners like you would never need to replace the windows again. Just last week we went out to service a home that we installed in 1993. (That’s 21 years ago.) And we repaired and replaced the window at no cost. No parts, no labor, no trip charge. Everything included. Sincerely, Gerry Rogers

They did what they said they would and were on time. They came in and told me exactly what they would do and how long it would take. They actually showed up earlier than they were supposed to, which was awesome. They worked all day and cleaned up after themselves. They also showed me how to use the windows and made sure to answer all my questions. There was also a problem with the sliding door (not a problem with them, but the door itself), and they worked painstakingly until it was done.

EXCELLENT!! After the great job the Mr. Roger's crew did installing a new sliding glass door for me, I immediately contracted with them to replace my home's 36 year old original windows. The sales manager came out to measure and write up the estimate (and a few days later another team member came out to do the detailed measuring). The price was much lower than I was expecting for the job and Andersen Renewal window replacements, especially since 7 of them were required to be tempered glass. The job was scheduled, the crew showed up a little early on the scheduled days to get ahead of the afternoon rain, and they got to work immediately. After the great experience I had with the door installation, I was very comfortable leaving the crew to go about their business while I concentrated on my work. They made sure wall hangings were removed to avoid anything falling during window removal, carefully moved the necessary furniture, removed the old windows - just a couple at a time, cleaned up and properly prepareed the site, installed the new windows, sealed, caulked, finished, cleaned, wiped, inspected, ETC. When they got the the North side of the house, they stopped to show me an area of the siding that was rotting So, I called my 'construction guy' to come out and take a look at it for an estimate. While he was there he commented on what a great job the crew was doing on the installation.......and then pointed out a few more siding issues.....<sigh>. I LOVE the windows and the fresh, new, high-quality look they bring to my home. At completion of the job, I was asked to walk around the house and make sure I was happy with the job. I was also shown the mechanics of the windows for cleaning and had all my questions answered. The sales manager even stopped by during the installation to be sure I was happy with the job and product. My home was treated with respect and care, and completly cleaned up - inside and outside. The installation was professional. The crew was professional. Now I'm thinking about replacing my front door! When I do, the only phone call I will need to make it to Mr. Roger's Windows.

I've found Mr. Roger's Windows to be a very professional company at all levels. Sales, Management, Installers, Office Manager. The installers took their time and did the job right which is what anyone would expect given the quality of window and cost of installing it. I plan on using them in the near future to continue to replace more builder grade windows as the budget allows.
Description of Work: Have replaced a total of 13 windows so far after discovering that the builder grade windows are very low quality with several of them leaking after only being in the house for 6 years. The difference in the quality of window is noticeable on both cold and hot days.

I priced 4 companies for the replacement windows, Champion Windows, World of Windows, Pella Windows from the Pella Store and Mr. Rogers Windows. After initial investigation, I took it down to Pella and Mr. Rogers. The Mr. Rogers warranty was far superior to anyone else as long as Mr. Rogers stays in business. However, since they have been in business over 20+ years, I was comfortable that they will be in business if a window needs warranty work. My concern was the cost and the financing. As close to apples to apples between Mr Rogers and Pella, Mr Rogers windows were $2,500 more than the Pella windows for the 15 windows. Also, I could not get the financing with Mr Roger Windows as I could with Pella. If you want a high quailty replacement window, with a great warranty, and you're not concerned about financing packages to pay for these windows, Mr Rogers is the top of the line in replacement windows.
Description of Work: Received pricing for replacement of all 27 windows, and replacing just the 12 front windows and 3 kitchen windows. After looking at the pricing I focused on the front windows and the 3 kitchen windows for a total of 15 windows.

Overall we are pleased with the result, but there were things which could have been handled better. We did not feel that the installation team was well trained in installation of the products we purchased, or they had no experience in implementing them. #1 - our prior doors had wooden blinds on them, stained the same as the wood on the doors, and the wood wainscoting in our family room. Neither the sales person nor the project manager who came out within the first week told us that we could not use the blinds on the new doors. When the doors were being installed, the lead installer told us that nothing could be mounted on the door at all, or it voided our warranty. In the meantime, we had purchased a designer roller shade to mount on the door, and could not use this at all. The project manager had told us that the installers could put the blinds back up on the doors for us, and this was not true. #2 - some of the workmanship was not to the high levels we expected from Mr. Rogers including nails protruding, use of an ugly piece of wood on the inside for a threshold, which I asked to be removed, and using no wood fill in some nail holes while using far too much in others which caused problems with our ability to have the doors stained consistently. #3 - The lead installer did not remove a plastic piece on the door mechanism, which kept the door from latching, and he explained to my husband that we always had to engage the lock to keep the door closed, by holding the door closed and lifting the handle. This was not true. #4 - The installation team cleaned up most things well, but completely missed an area where materials were either dumped or fell off our deck, onto a small patio below. My husband had to clean up that area himself. Furthermore, I was very surprised that no one ever followed up on how the job was finished on a Friday. On Monday, we called about #3 and #2, and were unable to reach anyone until the following day. I noted that we would use them again, but that's because they are the only company in the Charlotte area for Andersen windows.
Description of Work: We replaced three sets of Andersen doors (all of them had one fixed, one working door) with one bay window, one pair of French-style doors, and one set of fixed, non-working doors. The exterior matched what was there originally, and the interior was finished in oak.

FANTASTIC!!! My first experience with the other - orange - home improvement company absolutely horrific. Everything about the product and experience was poor. I had had it with the door leaking every time it rained hard, so I started doing my research. Long story short - Mr. Rogers received excellent reviews on Angie's List and they have a showroom you can visit. I visited the showroom, liked the products I saw (I am also familiar with Andersen products and have always had a good experience with them), and liked the office manager. We scheduled an appointment for the sales rep (Dave) to visit. Dave was on time and provided all the information I needed. I explained my previous horry story and that I was going to be very particular! Dave had every confidence I would be pleased with the product and installation. He worked up a satisfactory quote and we agreed to move ahead. A couple days later Bret came to gather exact measurements and conduct the lead testing. Our door was ordered and we scheduled an installation date. I received an email confirmation and phone call from Amy (office manager). A few days before the installation, Amy called again to confirm. The crew showed up on time. They covered their shoes before entering the house (thank you!!), and provided a step by step of the installation process and everything they would be doing. They provided all their own tools, covers, trash bins, etc. (no - this did not happen with the 'other' company). They got right to work and didn't stop for a minute until the job was done. They were POLITE, PROFESSIONAL, CLEAN, THOROUGH, and most importantly RESPECTFUL of my home. Amy called the next day to ensure I was satisfied with the installation and the product. I AM !!! The door is great - we had a driving rain the very next day and my dining room was dry! - and it was installed perfectly. The job site was cleaned up completely. I didn't have to do a thing except go shoping for new drapes. I could have contacted with another company for a lower estimate, but I'm a firm believer in "you get what you pay for". I may have paid a little bit more, but it was worth every penny for peace of mind, a stress-free experience, and a full guarantee for as long as I own my home. I was so pleased with the experience and product that I contracted with Mr. Rogers to have all my windows replaces (Bret is coming back today to measure).

After getting several quotes from different window manufacturers, we chose the Renewal windows by Mr.Rogers. The salesman came and explained the quality and cost of the windows and offered several financing options. Being a member of Angie's list helped with the price of each window. Once financing was established, the work was scheduled. The installers came to the site on time, began work immediately and only took a lunch break. After each day the installers ensured the work areas were cleaned. We had 15 1/2 windows replaced and it only took 2 days to remove the old windows and install the new windows. Once the job was completed, the installers walked us through each room to ensure that all parties were satisfied with the work. It has been several months now since the work was done and we are very pleased with our choice. We have seen a drop in our electric bill which is always a pleasant surprise. I would highly recommend Mr.Rogers to all of my family and friends. We are now looking at having our patio door replaced with a sliding door. Mr. Rogers will be our 1st call.

The sales manager came out to give us a quote. No pressure or anything. We didn't actually make our decision for a couple of days. Amy with Mr. Rogers callled a day or so later to make the appointment for a guy to take measurements. A week or two later, Amy called to schedule our install. The day of the install, the guys called a few minutes before they were to arrive. They arrived on time and were completely professional. The install took about half a day. They were careful to take everything off the walls in the surrounding area and put it back after they were through with the install. They left everything very clean. You would not know they had been here except that the beautiful patio door! Above & beyond - I asked the installers about some sticky substance around the decorative window on our front door; wondered what I could use to take it off without risk of ruining the finish. They actually spent 30 minutes or so removing the sticky stuff with using what looked like plastic razor blade...so no chemicals were used at all. I really appreciated their extra effort. Thanks guys!
Description of Work: Replaced builder grade back patio doors with energy efficient Provia patio doors with a sliding screen. We got 4 quotes and this was was the second highest of the 4, but after reading bad reviews about Pella and Anderson, we felt better going with a company that I knew would come back to fix any problems, should any occur. Mr. Rogers also did our decorative Provia front door about 2.5 years ago. It is still beautiful and we have not had any problems with it. I know you can get a door for cheaper; even a lot cheaper at a box hardware store, but you get what you pay for. I wanted a maintenance free door that we would never have to replace again.

Two-man crew was on time with proper materials. They clearly had a game plan what each man was to do and they worked diligently throughout the process. They were very careful in protecting the surroundings in the house near their work and cleaned up as they performed. Both were courteous and answered all of the questions I had concerning the installation. They insulated the doors and did an excellent job replacing the trim. The managing superintendent visited the job about 3/4 the way through, made an inspection, and asked if I was satisfied with the job to that point.Upon completion, the crew did an excellent cleanup. I am totally satisfied with the doors now two weeks later.

We visited the showroom and got an idea about what they had to offer and a general price range.. We live on a golf course and wanted something that would stand up to stray balls. Within 48 hours, a representative came out to measure, give us an estimate, and talk over details such as trim color. .The next day someone came to take "official" measurements. The door came into the store earlier than expected, and we had it installed just a few weeks after our initial visit. All the personnel we dealt with were good to work with. The work was done with a minimum of time and mess. They cleaned up completely. We had not remembered to mention our alarm system, but the installer was familiar with it and when I called the company, he talked to them for me and asked all the right questions about how to reinstall it in the new frame. The estimate was right on. We would definitely use tthem again. We love our new door.

A sales person came and gave us an estimate after measuring the opening and letting us pick the door and handles. We were told another person would come to take exact measurements and we would be contacted for an appointment. The person measuring, made sure, one more time, what door and which handles we wanted, to make sure we are all in the same boat. We got an ETA for door and that we would be contacted to set up install day. When the truck did not get here fast enough, I was contacted that it might take a bit longer and we set up another day. I appreciated that hey did not waited til the last minute. The two men who installed the door were courteous and did a fabulous job. They left the site very clean. It has been a while since I saw an installer bring their own vacuum cleaner!!! Thank you Mr. Roger's!!!

I went to the showroom and looked at the windows, and I was very impressed with the windows. Their professionalism was okay in terms of their knowledge and everything. They set up an appointment to come out, and they actually missed three appointments. On the third appointment, I called them about an hour after they were supposed to be here, and he came up with some excuse that his schedule was scheduled wrongly. He told me that they had not told him and that he would be right out; he did end up coming out. Their quote was the highest that I received. I would not use them because their price was too high, and I was not impressed with their customer service.

I don’t remember how much we spent because my husband wrote the cheque. I don’t have any complaints about them. One sales call actually ran a little long and it was during our dinner time. That was our first meeting and it just ran long. He was willing to give us every detail and print out of whatever we needed. They sent somebody out to measure and then they called and set a date for installation. Then they showed up and it took two days to put the windows in. Everything looks wonderful. They didn’t leave a bit of dirt anywhere. The windows are very good. We’ve had other replacement windows and they don’t hold up but these look like they really will. They are very expensive but you get what you pay for. I was dumbfounded when I found out the price of the windows. I think it was about $1000 a window. I would use their services again in the future.

I had several estimates. I chose Mr. Rogers because of the locking mechanism on the Anderson sliding glass door and because of the professionalism exhibited by the employees. They made sure to schedule a time that was convenient to me. The workmen were on time. They cleared away the old door and installed the new one with great efficiency. The salesman stopped in to see how the installation was going. Any questions I asked were answered to my satisfaction. I was shown how to work the door. The workmen left the area cleaner than when they started. I will definitely use this company again and would highly recommend them to my friends. Several weeks after installation, I was concerned about the lock. They sent out a repair person. There was no problem and the repair person explained why the lock was the way it was. They are the best.
Description of Work: Mr. Rogers installed an Anderson sliding glass door as a replacement to an existing sliding glass door.
