Received marketing flyer in the mail that invited homeowners to call for PRICE, for a limited time offer from Renewal by Anderson windows in Charlotte, NC. I called and was told they would have to schedule a representative to come out and measure, etc. The representative stated that they could NOT provided a PRICE with out coming out to the house first. I then asked why invite homeowners to call for a price when they won't give you one. The representative replied, "oh well, that's just our marketing department. I spoke to the owner of the place , or director, not sure, who told me the same thing, but then offered to give me a price of $10,000 to install 5 small windows. It was clear they did not want my business and just wanted me to go away..so I am sharing this experience in hopes that other people stay away as well.

My problem was not with the work being done. They were great. However, the man who stopped by told me that 2 windows were not ordered. I asked when I should expect them and he said he would get back to me that day. He did not call me. The next day I called him twice and he did not return my call. I then called his office and asked them. A few hours later he did finally call me telling me he forgot. I did not believe that he forgot both of my phone calls. He had an attitude on the phone. My problem was with this man and also with the company for forgetting to order 2 windows out of an order of 12 windows. Not a good way to do business.
Description of Work: The men putting in the windows did a wonderful job, were very pleasant and I was very pleased.

I am in the process to purchase a home. During the home inspection multiple windows were noticed to be cloudy. This is a indication the gas seal is lost. I have a short window to have all inspections and provide the details with the home owner before the due diligence time period is completed. I tried to explain my situation to the Representative at Mr Roger windows that I have a tight schedule for the inspection and did not want to waste her time or mine by providing all the detail about the property.before knowing if the inspection can proceed on a short notice. She insisted that Mr Rogers requires all your information before going further with the conversation to see if availability for the window inspection. So I gave all the home information and my information. She advised that the home owner must be present during the window inspection . What!! I told the lady that I am in the process to purchase the home. The home owners are not in the country. She said we have to have the home owner present. CRAZY company policy. Sounds like a sales pitch policy to have the home owners present, not about evaluating the window conditions. Just keep this in mind if you use Mr Rogers window.

I went to the showroom with my window measurements and requirements. Even though I went to the store and even though I provided all the information needed, they refused to share pricing with me without coming out to my house. I have been held hostage in my home by too many window salespeople and was looking for an alternative. There are many window companies now that will provide pricing without a house visit and that works much better for my life.

This is a very hard sell company! Before even giving a quote on price you have to go through a 60 to 90 minute presentation, which appears to be from a script or memorized. Throughout the presentation you are asked silly qualifying questions upon which they build upon to use for closing. Then they give you a highball price they describe as their "everyday low price;" if that does not work then they give you a special discount if you sign then; and if that does not work then the next day they call to tell you that they would like to send out another presenter for another 30 minute appointment -- and he is a real "production person" who is authorized to give even more discounts (and no doubt another chance to close). This approach really pushes the envelope, at least with me. All in all they probably have a good product, but their approach is a real turn-off. Because of this I do not think I would use them or even refer them to others.

I decided not to hire this company. I was uncomfortable with the pressure from the salesperson during his pitch and did not welcome the follow-up calls from the company that continued for several months. I was impressed with the windows but wasn't sure enough that I was getting enough value to justify the high cost. This was the first company I met with and subsequent cost estimates from other companies were much lower. Perhaps the windows proposed by the subsequent companies were of slightly lower quality, for me Mr. Roger's windows and the excessive pressure put on me by this company soured me on the whole project. I have postponed this purchase for now. The salesperson for Mr. Rogers was on time and very knowledgeable about his product. What he didn't do well was read my reaction to his presentation well!

It did not go well in my opinion. Like I mentioned before they were very pushy on making sure both/all owners are present during the initial measuring process. I can't stand high pressure salespeople. That "if you don't do it now you'll miss out on the deal" tactic. Once scheduled they called to confirm the wrong day/date/time! Way to big of a company with too many untrained people to obviously do a good job. Didn't talk to the same person twice. So, when I called to cancel and they realized I was not going to reschedule I only wanted to cancel I was pretty much hung up on.

Person answering the phone took all information and while setting up appointment indicated that it would be a 90 minute appt. I questioned this as unreasonable for a quote on two windows; she insisted that they wanted to do an inspection of the entire house. I indicated I was only interested in a quote for the two windows. She insisted that they needed 90 minutes and wanted to do the entire house. I then got transferred to a supervisor with a last name of Rogers, who took me though a similar talk and tried to explain to me that he only had my best interest at heart, but refused to do anything less than a full inspection. When I questioned him he said "Look, if you want to measure the windows yourself and tell me I will give you a quote over the phone". Not impressed. Very unprofessional. More interested in the upsell than customer service.

Response from Renewal by Andersen of Charlotte
It sounds like we did a poor job handling this call. I sincerely apologize for treating you in any way that was less than professional. We are not perfect. And we are training several new employees in our office this month. That is no excuse, it is just information about our situation. When a homeowner, like yourself, has only 2 windows that need replacing, there are some additional factors that typically occur when inspecting and pricing the 2 windows. Our windows are likely not to match the existing windows. And so when homeowners decide they like our windows, they like to know the price for all of them so they can start planning for a replacement project over the next few years. Next, if 2 windows are failing due to wood rot or warping, it is likely several other windows are doing the same thing, it may not yet be apparent to the homeowner, so as long as we have invested the time to send an expert by the house, we provide this inspection as a courtesy. Then you know what’s going on with all of your windows. It sounds like my representative did not invite you to consider inspecting all the windows while we are there as a courtesy, but rather as a requirement. This is not how we operate. We are one of the few companies that will be happy to measure, inspect, and price one or two windows for you. We like to set the expectation for a 60 to 90 minute appointment because most people find the information helpful and interactive and then get caught short because their schedule is too tight. Again, I apologize for this situation and hope my explanation in some way provides you with a perspective that seems helpful. I certainly appreciate your feedback and will take the needed steps to improve our appointment setting conversations. ~Gerry Rogers

The estimate alone is not the reason for the low rating, although it was double the price of their competitors. The biggest complaint is how they approach a sale. Our appointment was in the evening, and after the salesman had measured the windows which took all of about 15 minutes, he said he was submitting the information to the factory for pricing on his ipad. I thought this was the end of the experience and that we would receive a price back in a few days. Unfortunately, the salesman then proceeded to explain every facet of his company and the line of windows they represent for the next hour and a half. At this point my wife and I were no longer listening, but hated to be really rude. That is until someone at the factory, who apparently stayed late just to price our 8 windows returned the price to the salesman. He proceeded to show us the price and wanted to show us more samples of his fabulous product at which point I told him it was time to leave. I am not typically a rude person, but I do have my limits, and I do not need an almost 2 hour lecture on the properties of replacement windows. Obviously, we decided to go with a different company, but the experience with Mr. Rogers was so bad, I wanted to leave a review to prepare others in case the Mr. Rogers salesman comes knocking.

The company was great in every way. Only mild oversell to try to get us to decide on the spot, but we did our homework. There are cheaper options but we have not regretted our decision to favor quality over price. Installation was quick and professional. The place was always clean and the 17 windows - combination of double hung, permanent and awning - we in and finished out beautifully in 3 days. The stain on the windows in the den and kitchen was a perfect match for our 20 year-old home. Everything about the install was outstanding. The house is so much warmer this winter - NO DRAFTS. At Christmas, it was so nice to have easily opening windows to allow us to put up our wreaths. Will definitely use them when we do the second floor.

The representative arrived a little late, but will take into consideration thunderstorms in the area. He had a sales trainee arrive after him. We are very familiar with the Anderson product, but the sales call still took almost 2 hours. It was very difficult to get an initial cost, as the sales rep beat around the bush. We also found him extremely condescending and insulting. After all was said and done, my husband nicely ended the sales call. The pricing was about 4 times the amount of money we wanted to spend. The estimate was for windows and a front door. With the estimate being very high, it didn't even include the door cost.

Thank you for your comments. Our consultants are trained to call and let a homeowner know when they are going to be late. It appears that there was a confusion on the time. The customer had the appointment for 4pm and we had the appointment on our book at 5pm. We do our best to communicate and confirm appointment times, yet sometimes a mistake can happen. I apologize for any misunderstanding. The Andersen replacement window is different than the Andersen window because of its unique frame material, so we take time to explain that to homeowners and answer their questions. Most window companies sell a vinyl product that has a short life expectancy vs the window we sell that is different. Our product looks more like the home’s original window and it’s fully guaranteed with a lifetime performance guarantee. (If anything ever goes wrong we fix it for free, parts and labor included.) Our consultation and window inspection is free with no obligation, so my hope is that you will be able to use some of the information we provided to shop for the windows and door that works for you. ~ Gerry Rogers

Provider was providing a cost to replace a font door, picture window above it and 9 additional windows. We sat with them for 90 minutes on a Friday evening starting at 6pm and cut them short at 90 minutes. When making the appointment, they said to insure that 90 minutes were set aside but their sales pitch could last 2-3 hours easily. We had somewhere to go so cut them off. They measured and took all the information about what we were looking for and wanted. Before we left, we made an appointment for the following Friday at 4:30 pm to review their pricing. My wife and I scheduled ourselves out of work early to make sure there was time to review and understand everything. We received a follow up email confirming the appointment time during the week. On Friday morning we received a call to confirm the appointment from their scheduling group. We called back but did not get through. The installer, the guy that made the 4:30 appointment, called to confirm the appointment in the afternoon. We were both at work so did not get the chance to call back. 4:30 came and went, so did 5 pm. We called the company and they said that they cancelled the appointment because they did not here from us! They cancelled! We made the appointment face to face with the sales guy. We needed to meet again to get the pricing to make a decision. Apparently if you do not respond to their multiple confirmations, they will cancel the appointment, which they did. Terrible customer service. They stated "our sales people's time is valuable and since we didn't hear from you we cancelled." They were more concerned with their sales team than they were with the customer!

After hearing multiple ads on NPR as well as seeing the Mr. Rogers Windows truck in my neighborhood, I contacted MRW to schedule an appointment. I was informed that the appointment would take 60-90 minutes. We had a 6pm time scheduled, so we planned our schedule accordingly and prepped for dinner to be coking and ready to go once the appointment was concluded. Little did I know that we would be occupied for the next THREE HOURS. We had two sales people arrive. The were on time and professional. One guy was clearly in training and simply took forever to measure. The trainer would take over every now and again but not often enough. We went through an exhaustive power point presentation that declared over and over again the evil of vinyl windows. We made it clear that we were not interested in vinyl windows, however the lecture continued. At one point, my husband indicated he wanted to 'move the appointment along' yet they did not take the hint. After 2.5 hours we were done and our dinner was ruined. They finally got to the quote. Had I known that their quote was going to be as ridiculous as it was, we would not have wasted anyone's time. We were quoted $33,500 for 18 windows and a sliding glass door. When we balked at the ridiculous price, they went through all the benefits of their 20 year company, etc. While I think that a great thing, it's not worth double the cost. We did our homework, we know how much windows cost. To make things worse, they did a hard sell offer of saving a percent if e agreed to purchase right then and there. High pressure selling in one's own home is not what I consider customer service! We were finally wrapping up the appointment and I was definitely irritated as our dinner was ruined and we felt like we were in vacation time share sales meeting. At one point the more senior of the salesmen mentioned our neighbors who had hired them. He made a comment that "at least they offered him something to drink" and that had resulted in some sort of discount. It was meant as a joke, I'm sure (hope?) but after three hours? Not funny. Not professional. Not cool. We declined their offer. To date, I've had six different follow up phone calls. Four were voicemails. I spoke directly to them TWICE telling them we had no interest in furthering our conversations. The first call was to confirm a second in-home appointment that we certainly never set up or agreed to. Four additional calls as 'follow-up' (mind you, we'd already told them we were not interested). The last call (I hope) was this morning. I (again) told them their prices were too high and we were not interested. I really hope this is the last time I hear from them. I don't doubt they do decent work, but I seriously doubt it's worth more than double the price. If you decide to start with this company, be prepared for the hard sell and for them to take over your home for three hours for a quote.

Thank you for your comments. I apologize that our sales consultant was “in training” and took longer than the time we requested. This can happen from time to time. We do make an effort to educate homeowners about windows because we believe it helps make you a more informed buyer. Hopefully, some of that info helped you find the windows and door that better fit your home and your budget. Best, Gerry Rogers

The sales person was a very personable and knowledgeable man, and was a pleasure to work with. He took the time to show me samples of several types of windows, and well as three grades of Anderson windows. All of my questions were answered in detail. These were the most expensive windows by far, but the lifetime warranty made me feel it was worth the money. There was one claim he made that turned out to be a bit optimistic. He related a story about a lawn mower running right outside one of their customer's windows, and that it couldn't be heard inside. My experience so far makes me doubt that claim since I can hear car traffic 100' away in front of my house. Installation began on the date scheduled and was completed in the time specified, which was two days. The installers were friendly and knowledgeable and for the most part did a fantastic job. However there were a couple of minor issues. The first was their lack of protection for my furniture with regard to dirt and debris. Two desks that should have been moved out of the way - something I was told they would do - were left in place and not covered. There was also some trash and mess left on the floor in a couple of places. The other issue was with two of the windows looking crooked after they were installed. When I questioned one of the installers about it I was told it was because my window openings were not square and level, and that there was nothing they could do about it. Admittedly my house is old, and few things are still level and square, however the sales person claimed that the installers carried all the tools and materials with them to tackle any situation. After a day or two of thought I decided that for what I paid for the windows the crooked look was unacceptable. I made a call to Mr. Rogers and expressed my dissatisfaction, and the installation supervisor called me back promptly. He made an appointment to come out to see the problem, and when he arrived he agreed that there was no reason for the windows to look the way they did. The installation crew was promptly scheduled to return and correct the problem. They showed up on time and had the windows looking just as great as the others in the house in short order. I personally don't get too excited about a company making mistakes; that is going to happen. What does matter to me is how the mistakes are corrected. Mr. Rogers did a great job of making things right.
