Do not try this at home! Seriously. After doing some research on the Internet I decided to try and troubleshoot my air-conditioner. I changed one part that was a common cause of failure but it still didn't work. After spending about 4 hours online trying to understand what could be wrong I finally gave up. I remembered that Real Cool Air Conditioning came out a few years ago to change a thermostat and the tech was very friendly and knowledgeable so I decided to give them a call. Mike, the owner of the business, showed up early for the appointment and had my air-conditioner blowing cool air in less than 20 minutes. The cause? A bug had lodged itself in the contactor and was preventing the electrical current from turning on the compressor. I never would have figured that out and I could have done serious damage to the compressor had I continued to troubleshoot on my own. Mike is extremely honest and clearly takes pride in his work. I signed up for a yearly maintenance contract-at a very reasonable fee-to keep my air-conditioning and heating units properly maintained.

The installation went very well. Mike Atkinson is very knowledgeable about Air Conditioning and Indoor Air Quality. He provided me with some good technical tips that will further the life of my AC system. The installers were punctual and cleaned up their work area after the installation was complete. I expect to pay a premium for Air Conditioning services but I feel like I received a substantial amount of value for the price.

It went great!. I thought that I needed a new AC. The technician looked at it and said it was a capacitor issue and that I needed a new thermostat. The system works great now.

Had a good experience, air conditioner was repaired and advice given. Did not feel more was done than required.

Mike did a fantastic job in the replacement of our HVAC system - from the initial quote where his knowledge was apparent through the installation where he paid attention to even the smallest details. We felt very comfortable throughout the process because it was Mike and his assistant,, Nick, doing the job. They were very professional and clearly take pride in their work. Scheduled time was for the evening. They called in the morning said they had a cancellation so I met the worker at my house early.He fixed the problem within minutes and charged me the diagnostic fee only. Very polite and prompt service.

We hired Real Cool to come and perform out semi-annual HVAC check for our two systems. While here they discovered several issues we need to have fixed but let us know which were urgent and which we could do a little later. The capacitors in both systems are weak, so we have to have those replaced soon as well as some other smaller issues that needed immediate repair. They seemed very knowledgeable and helpful. Several days after their visit, we had an issue with out upstairs unit and the pan overflowed and leaked into our ceiling. It took us a day to figure out what was happening, We called Real Cool and they sent someone out within a couple hours. The unit's drainpipe was not installed properly many years ago and only has one drain. They told us this on the first visit, but we decided to wait to address it since it had been working fine for over 10 years. We think after they cleaned it, some rust debris got kicked up (they told us of the rust, too), and clogged the drain, causing the overflow. Since there was not a secondary drain , there was nowhere for the water to go and it overflowed. As it had only been less than a week since their visit and everything had been running fine up until then (and we spent over $500), we didn't want to pay for the repair because we just didn't like the timing of how it all happened. I'm sure it was purely coincidence, and they were very understanding of our concerns. They did not charge us, but they did put in a secondary drain (at no charge) to make sure it didn't happen again. We were so impressed that they were so willing to go the extra mile and make the needed repairs for free. We bought their upfront yearly plan and will definitely be calling them back in a couple weeks to do the other repairs.

We have been doing business with Real Cool since 2007, but have just recently joined Angie?s List and wanted to put a review out here. We first had to use them for an emergency with our furnace giving out the first winter we moved to Charlotte. We were given their name through our home warranty provider. They came out, diagnosed the problem quickly, worked with our home warranty provided to ensure everything was taken care of and got the issue resolved. We have been with them ever since. We now have a yearly maintenance contract with Real Cool and trust them to keep everything running smooth. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking to have a problem fixed or to have their current heating and cooling systems maintained in good working order.

They have been outstanding. They are professional and punctual. They do a great job. They are very friendly and knowledgeable. We highly recommend them. Our overall experience with them has been excellent.

Not only did Shannon find the gas problem but he trouble shot a non related elec. circuit problem that was a concern of mine for months. I will get an electrian off Angies List to correct that problem. I would reccomend this Company to anyone. And will be calling them to set up a yearly service contract that I have never had with any other Compary.

I felt a thorough job was done and good feedback was given on any issues found or issues which might occur in future which could require part replacement. There was a problem with build up on coils from construction material which Mike pointed out and vacuumed out. I feel very comfortable that the heating system is now tuned and cleaned correctly. Real Cool has earned their good reputation on Angies list not just from customer service but from work performed.

Mike arrived on time, explained everything clearly and performed the necessary adjustments & repairs. I was very pleased and would recommend them.

They arrived as schedule and were very professional. They took the time to explain the problem. I felt they went out of there way to help. I have was quite pleased with the service. I will definitely use in the future.

We were in need of general maintenance and cleaning of our air conditioner. I called after reading very good reviews on Angie's List. After telling the operator what I needed, she told me about a VIP plan that would save us money if we contracted for them to come out in the Fall to service the heating unit. I figured it sounded like a reasonable offer. They were able to schedule me on a specific date. I asked for them to call 30 minutes ahead to let me know they were on their way. TO THE MINUTE, Shannon,(the tech), called me. I even asked him to call once in the driveway so I could put my dogs in another room. He did that too! Shannon was very professional, he made it very clear that he had to put on shoe protectors before entering my home even though I told him it was not necessary. He was pleasant, told me not to hesitate to ask any questions I had for him and was helpful in showing me something on our water heater that needed attention too, and that was very helpful! He spent over 90 minutes both in and outside and seemed very thorough in his servicing of the A/C. At times when technicians leave your home, you have ended up spending much more money than was originally quoted to you and the experience was not a goood one....This was NOT the case with Shannon and his company. It is nice to not feel like you have been taken advantage of! I will certainly pass their name on to others when asked who they should call for HVAC needs.

This was just an excellent experience for us. I called on Monday, Shannon came out on Tuesday, Mike came out to do a "whole house" assessment on Wednesday and the installation was done on Friday...four days from first meeting to final installation. Sonia was an excellent first point of contact and provided continuity for contact and communications for us. Mike, Shannon and Brad were just superb during the entire evolution. During the day of installation these guys worked from 8am to about 7pm on a hot June day, taking one break for about 1/2 hour. All of our questions were answered, all follow-up was prompt and everything was made right. Their customer service ethic is summed up by a comment Shannon made when he came back to answer a question I had. He said, "You're my only customer right now." He actually had other customers to attend to that day. What he was telling me was that, at that moment, he was with me and I was the one who mattered to him and he'd spend all the time with me until I was happy. And, he did. If you're looking around for some HVAC help, do yourself a great favor and just stop. Call Real Cool...you'll be happy that you did. Ed

My air conditioner when out. I call for an after hours repair and within 30 minutes the tech arrived at my home. He listened to what I had done and then did a very complete check of my system. He found and repaired the fault quickly. At this point he checked my system again and found one more issue that needed fixing and has set that up for the next week. As I type my home is cooling. Great service. Will use them again.

Sonia was very pleasant and helpful. Called at 9:30 a.m. and she scheduled the same day. Mike arrived around 3:30 p.m. Unit was frozen so he had to wait until the next day to service. He arrived just past 7:30 a.m. ,checked the unit and made the repairs. He was very informative and made several helpful suggestions. I was very pleased. I plan on having Real Cool do a yearly maintainance inspection on my heating and air....... I recommend highly!

We have been using Real Cool for at least three years now for heating and cooling maintenance and repair. In December 2010, we decided to replace our very old furnace. Mike and his staff gave us options and explained the difference between the options. They did not try to push the most expensive model on us (although still cheaper than what other chains in Charlotte were going to charge). Real Cool replaced the furance, took the old one away, and cleaned up after themselves. When the inspector came out, there was no poblem passing the inspection. We will continue to use Real Cool for all of our heating and cooling needs and may even replace the old cooling system this summer. It is nice to know there are still honest and reliable people out there who are out there to make sure they keep you as a customer and not just get an easy buck off you.
