The owner John Stokes provided the service. He was prompt and efficient. He provided a consultation on some plumbing work I recently had done on the master bathroom. He was knowledgeable about what the other plumber had done wrong. He explained to me the proper pressure and flow that we should be receiving at the house. He also identified that the previous plumber had not completed the work they claimed to have completed. I trust his honesty and knowledge. Our water heater will need replacing in the near future, I will be contacting Mr. Stokes to complete the work. Its hard to find someone to trust to do the work properly, I believe he can be trusted.

He came on time and did a good job. He worked in our guest bathroom and we were having some issues with it. It turned out to be more than the big deal because he said I had an older style of toilet.

Pam, Thanks for taking the time to review us! I am glad to see you were happy with our service. One a side note, you did not have to pay more because your toilets were older, you simply had a problem with your toilet that the big deal did not address. I could tell that you were not prepared to hear that and seemed a little disappointed. For that reason I deducted the ENTIRE big deal amount off of your repair! We were glad to take good care of you and look forward to helping you when you are ready to move forward on some of those other projects we discussed.

It worked out very well. The guy was absolutely right on time and when he came here and did the job, did it very efficiently and we talked about a couple of things that might be improved as time goes by, but he did the job and was very neat, clean and very prompt. The guy was named Stokes. He checked everything and showed me where the settings were and all that sort of thing and I was very confident after watching him do what he did, that everything was working fine. He didn't make a mess or anything like that and was very careful that there wasn't any. I've got his card and I'll make sure that other people know about him.

It turned out fine. He was very personable and easy to talk to. He wasn't trying to do a hard sell. It went very well. There were no additional costs. He had his recommendations but we can decide whether or not to do those. They seemed to make sense. They gave good reasons behind them. He was definitely very professional.

Im happy you were pleased with the quality of service. I am a licensed plumber so thats to be expected. When you compare my prices to the market value of a big box home center they will always seem "wacky". When compared to work done by another licensed plumber (not an employee of one aka plumbing technician) they are more than reasonable. My goal is not to be the cheapest guy in town. It is to be the most professional and informative. If you want cheap, the market is already saturated wjth those types. If you want quality call me.

It was an Angie's List Big Deal that I purchased. I didn't pay any additional. The price was all right. He didn't really do any work. I used a different company to replace it. He was on time.

What you have just described is the reason I won't be running that big deal again. You paid Angie's List 50 for me to check and adjust all of your toilets. On a regular basis I charge 75 just to show up at a customers home without doing any work. You got me at a bargain (at cost to me) to show up for just that much. But after I showed up, I gave your toilets, and the rest of the plumbing in your home a complete inspection and pointed out to you exactly why your toilets were not working in the first place despite the fact that you and others have attempted repeatedly in the past to repair them (caulking does NOT go inside a toilet tank). Then you took my professional, licensed diagnosis to a technician who couldn't figure out how to fix it the first few times he tried and had him fix it according to my instructions. So in reality what happened here was that I paid YOU to teach another unqualified tech how to do his job correctly so both you and he benefited (potentially). When you do call me back, I will not be willing to help you. Best of luck.

Bought the Angie's list deal to get toilet tune up. Was having issues with all 3 of my toilets ranging from water spraying from tank to insanely slow refilling. John stepped me through the processes, showing me the issues so that I had complete understanding of what was going on. Gave me options on how to fix. Ended up going with major rebuild of all 3 toilets, which he did on this visit. John was knowledgeable and very personable. He enjoyed showing me how everything function and what he was doing, which I appreciate a lot. I would easily recommend him to anyone needing a plumber. I even have another appointment to fix a no-longer functioning expansion tank on my water heater.

I purchased the $99.00 Big Deal Angie's List Special for 2 hours worth of plumbing. The main thing I wanted to do was have him clear 3 sink drains, which he easily took care of, but especially to find out why the special drinking water faucet we have in our kitchen was putting out water with particles in it, despite us putting new filters in it more than once. In regard to that second item, he really didn't help me figure out what the problem was. He said it "could" be that the water pressure in my house was too high, thus it could have blown the filter out. He told me that our pressure reducing valve was not working and recommended that we install a new one, but instead of in the house, doing it at the water meter out at the curb for $650. He also suggested installing a thermal expansion tank at the water heater for an additional $275. When I asked him about just fixing the failed pressure reducing valve in the house, he said he didn't recommend it. Also, when I asked him about just starting with the thermal expansion tank, he also said that he would not do it alone and would only do it in conjunction with the new pressure valve at the water meter (there was a good reason why that he explained, but I can't' remember it now). Anyway, when all was said and done and he was gone, it took me a few minutes to realize that the one thing I really wanted addressed wasn't - the problem with the drinking water faucet. On top of that, I still had almost an hour left for that "2 hour window" I purchased. At some point during his visit I mentioned the possibility of there being sediment build-up in the faucet itself, and he said that could be a possibility, but he seemed to focus on the water pressure being the problem. However, on the quote/invoice he left with me, he wrote, ""Checked filter under sink. Moen. Particles may (he underlined the word may) be due to pressure and/or thermal expansion." At the end of the day, I was disappointed that he didn't even take the faucet apart to check to see if it just needed to be cleaned out. All he did was remove the filter and looked at the unit that the filter attaches to, something I'd done myself several times. Looking back on it, I feel that he was more interested in trying to sell me on this water pressure thing then really making an effort to fix the problem for which I called him, especially when he couldn't say for sure it was the pressure, which if it were, I wonder why it hasn't happened to the water filter in our refrigerator. Anyway, he seemed knowledgeable and professional, but all and all I'm disappointed that I did not get a definitive answer on what is causing my problem.

Response from Pathmaker Plumbing
[member name removed], I am so disheartened to hear that you were not completely satisfied with my service. I understand that you really wanted an answer as to why your particular water filter was producing particles. I tried to explain that although I am extremely knowledgeable in the area of water filtration, I simply did not know "exactly" what was causing your problem. I gave you a laundry list of possibilities, and known causes of cases I have seen in the past. But the simple truth is I just dont know. In some circles those words are taboo. Admitting that as a professional, I dont know something is seen as a sign of weakness or lack of skill. Indeed, when i was a junior plumber working for the big plumbing companies here in Charlotte, and other cities, I was taught that if I didnt know how to fix something, then I was to try and sell you a new one, irrespective of what the actual "cause" may be of the symptom. I dont feel like that is the right way to treat people. The cause of the particles in your filtration system "could be" any of a half dozen things. But what I know for SURE is that your water pressure is higher than is allowed by NC State Plumbing Code. I verified that with a gauge, no guessing necessary. I know for certain that when you have both high water pressure, and lack a working thermal expansion tank that your home is in for trouble. It simply is not possible to predict where and when this trouble will come, but that code is there for a reason. I spent the time that I did informing you of the dangers of high and unchecked water pressure; not because I "want" to sell you something. I never want to sell anything to a customer that they themselves dont want. I spent the time informing you the way I did because it was clear this was new information to you and I wanted to communicate it's importance so that you can make the best decision for your home. Good information = the ability to make good decisions. I stand behind my suggestions. Thats why I put them in writing with the price INCLUDED. So that you, the homeowner can fact check, verify, google search, call code enforcement. Anything necessary to demonstrate to you that I know what I am talking about. If a customer is not interested in protecting his/her home from high pressure, and some arent. That's fine. My suggestions and pricing are there in writing, ready when/if they are. I call that integrity. Telling the truth both verbally and in writing, and not just making up a clever sounding answer to make myself sound smart, and make a sale. I want your trust far more than I want to make a sale, because without my customer's trust, I am just like every other plumber in town.

I bought the Big Deal from Pathmaker Plumbing and John Stokes did a great job! He replaced the flapper in my toilet, and gave me a lot to think about regarding the purchase of a new toilet. I am considering it. He told me a lot about toilets that I did not know, about water flow, etc. He is a wonderful person and a great plumber. I may use him to replace kitchen sink when I get ready. I would highly recommend John at Pathmaker Plumbing for your plumbing needs!

I had many leaky faucets which caught John's attention. He checked my PSI which registered 80-100. His suggestion was to have a Pressure Reducing Valve installed. I had never heard of so did some research with the county and sure enough that much pressure is h****** the system. It should be 50-60 psi. Valve is a couple hundred dollars which will be another visit. John is extremely knowledgeable and took his time evaluating and explaining.

He called immediately to schedule an appointment, called to tell me he was on his way and arrived on time. He was very professional and explained what he was doing and why. He installed the new fixture in the kitchen even though it was not part of the criteria of the Angie's List deal. He gave me a lot of good advice for issues going forward. John was very professional throughout . He arrived on time, calling before his arrival to assure me he was coming. He assess the work that needed to be done and did it quickly and efficiently. Since I had hired him for two hours as an "Angie's List Big Deal", he made sure that my home was in good shape, plumbing wise. I am thinking of changing out my toilet and flooring in my master bath. I asked his advise on the best way to do the job to get the best results. He answered all my questions and I feel comfortable in following his advise with his recommendations.

[member name removed] I agreed to meet with you the same day you requested service, after my office closed for the day, for your convenience and at no charge to you. When I arrived, I find that you had already given a diagnosis to your problem based on your google search. You had already purchased the part you thought was necessary to fix your problem from Lowes or Home Depot and for some reason expected that I would show up and just install it. The issue, as we agreed to cordially before I left your house later that evening, was that I didnt agree with your assesment, and cautioned that your fix would be nothing more than a band aid solution that would only temporarily mask the real issue (the source) of the symptom. I took the time to explain to you thermal expansion, pressure reducing valves, their proper placement and even walked you through each element of your hot water/pressure system so you could see with your own eyes what I was talking about. I also offered to show you the Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement PDF (an official document which speaks of the code for your exact situation) saved on my phone and you declined to look at that document. You chose not to agree with my professional, licensed opinion, which is your right. But please remember that I came out after-hours, same day, to give you that professional opinion, at my own cost, you have paid me nothing so far. Everything I said, I also put in writing so you could verify however you wished. I stand behind my professionalism and my experience and am very disappointed to see the grade you decided to give me after the extremely prompt, professional service I gave you. I am not quite sure how I warranted that grade from you.

This is my second encounter with Pathmaker Plumbing and I am still showing "two thumbs up". It is a pleasure to work with an honest practitioner of his craft. John replaced my handle and the inner workings so my master tub would not leak. He told me up front that if he could not get to the parts because of the way the tub and parts were installed, he may have to go through the dry wall, but that would be a last resort. He ordered the parts and when they came in, he called and we set up a time to get to work. John was able to replace the parts without having to cut into my dry wall, saving me hundreds of dollars. He showed me the defective parts, explained how he replaced it and the testing he did to ensure the issue was fixed. I am impressed with his professionalism, manner and approach to his craft. If I had three thumbs, he would get "three thumbs up" instead of two.
