Response from Owens Chimney Systems
After reviewing your comments, we feel there is some kind of confusion and we apologize for apparently not explaining ourselves sufficiently. You have a factory built pre-fabricated fireplace / chimney that CAN NOT have after market parts or any components that are not specifically tested and listed for use with your specific fireplace. At this point, this fireplace model has been discontinued and we can no longer get the proper parts. Some one has screwed / bolted a masonry chimney cap on top of the existing chase cover which will lead to water leaks, if it hasn't already. This chimney cap installation is not acceptable. Also, someone put a plate with a collar extension over the chase pan which was also not acceptable and/or done properly. We did call and discuss the findings with you, like we would do with any customer that has these types of issues. We told you the only thing that we could do is replace the entire pre-fabricated fireplace system since parts are no longer available for the current unit. A new pre-fabricated fireplace would come with all the appropriate parts and components. This would be the only option for us to offer to you due to liability and the fact that we want to do the repair correctly. We would hope that you would give us an opportunity to help you in the future if and when you decide to properly address these issues.
