Owens Chimney Systems

I believe I paid for an unnecessary inspection & did not get the repair I requested. I called to get the chimney cap checked and repairs made to prevent rain water from leaking into the chimney cavity, as this will cause wood rot and rust of the metal chimney lining. The problem remains for someone else to repair. I will not use this company again and I will not recommend them. The only professionalism shown me was that the gentlemen arrived on time, which I do appreciate as I had to take off work to be home. However, my appreciation stops there. Knowing that I called concerning a leak, I thought the workers would re-caulk with some type of sealant. I would have even respected them telling me that they were unable to find the leak, but that they had re-caulked all rivets and joints and hoped that corrected the problem. But to have someone communicate that I did not know what I was talking about is completely unacceptable and shows the lack of customer appreciation. Revised my report 12-22-2010 - after the initial negative experience the owner called me and came out personally. He apologized that his employee did not initially give credence to my concerns. He reinspected the chimney and found where water was leaking into it. Repairs were made for no additional cost. It has now been four years and I have had no more problems with the chimney. It took them coming out the second time, but when they came back - they did it right and I respect that. I would use this company again because they made it right.

No issues setting up the appointment, called a day before and reminded me of the appointment. One gentleman arrived on time and was polite and respectful in answering my questions. I noticed that he took care to ensure that there would be no mess. After the inspection, he gave me a full rundown of what he found, thankfully everything is okay. Angie's List discount was already on his worksheet. I will use them again.

I was very pleased that they took the time and put a ladder on the roof, took of the cap, and then told me that I really needed to pull out the stove to do a proper cleaning due to way it had been originally installed twenty years ago by another company. The reason I called Owens is because they are nationally certified. They did not charge for the call and they really could have, because due to the fact that the previous work was not their fault or responsibility.

I liked that fact that he had a digital camera. When he looked at the fireplace he took pictures of what he was doing so I could see what he was talking about. He also did the same on the chimney. He pointed out areas that needed to be addressed right away. I thought that was very professional.

Good experience - when I follow up on to get a proposal for repairs, I will hire Owens again.

The representative was very knowledgeable, courteous and on time. They were very neat and clean in cleaning the chimney, and thorough in showing me the digital pictures of the chimney and recommending alternatives.

It was a good price and they honored the 10$ coupon. They were very professional, they cleaned up and kept ahead of the mess so there was not much to be cleaned up afterward. It seemed as though the house was cleaner after he left. He did a good job. He explained everything to me and even showed me pictures inside the chimney and gave me options of what I wanted to pursue. For what I hired him for he was reasonable and did a good job.

Person on time, very polite and thorough. This is the third time we have used Owens for cleaning. We had them restore one chimney/two fireplaces and have used them for all fireplace work ever since. They are always great.

They did everything in an efficent, workmanlike fashion, and during this past winter, the chimney burned two cords of firewood with no troubles whatsoever.

Two workers arrived promptly and worked quickly and efficiently. I was particularly impressed by their thoroughness and would recommend to anyone. They took detailed pictures of any issues and showed them to me as they explained their work. They reviewed everything in detail in a way that I could understand. They were polite and professional. And they offered a $10 discount for using Angie's List.

They were excellent. I would recommend them and use them again.

Was very prompt in giving me an appointment that suited my work schedule. Was on time and cleaned up their mess and put my recliner back in place. The only complaint I have was the person that cleaned the chimney did not wash his hands before moving my recliner back into position and I had to use upholstery cleaner to remove the soot from the recliner. They gave me $10.00 off the quoted price because I mentioned I was an Angie's List customer.

The two young men that came out were very courteous and explained exactly how they were going to clean the ducts and answered any questions thoroughly. They were very professional and really seemed to care.

THE TECH WAS SLIGHTLY LATE BUT THE OFFICE CALLED TO LET ME KNOW THAT HE WOULD BE LATE. TECH WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND COURTEOUS. THEY WERE EVERYTHING I'D HOPED THEY WOULD BE IN A FIREPLACE INSPECTION COMPANY.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS HOME AND SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING WAS OKAY WITH THE CHIMNEY AND FIREPLACE. THE REPRESENTATIVE ARRIVED EARLY (THEY CALLED TO SEE IF I COULD MOVE MY APPOINTMENT UP AN HOUR, WHICH WAS EVEN BETTER FOR ME), WAS NEAT, COURTEOUS, POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL. I WILL DEFINITELY USE THIS COMPANY FOR FUTURE WORK.

EXCELLENT EXPERIENCE. CHRIS WAS EXACTLY ON TIME AND PERFORMED WORK PROFESSIONAL WAY. IT WAS A SMALL JOB, BUT I WAS TREATED VERY WELL.

THE WORKMAN SHOWED UP AS SCHEDULED, AND DID A THROUGH JOB. A PREVIOUS SERVICE BY ANOTHER VENDOR WAS NOT SATISFACTORY. THIS SERVICE WAS GREAT.

EVERYONE AT OWENS WAS GREAT, FROM THE INSPECTORS, MASONS, AND OWNER. TRUE PROFESSIONALS WHO CARE ABOUT THEIR WORK. WOULD RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS ANYTHING DONE WITH THEIR CHIMNEY.

REPAIRMEN WERE ON TIME, VERY POLITE AND ACCOMMODATING. I HAD PAINTERS IN MY HOUSE, AND THEY WORKED AROUND THEM, NO COMPLAINT. THEY UNCLOGGED MY DRYER VENT IN THE POURING RAIN, AND GAVE ME TIPS ON HOW TO KEEP IT UNCLOGGED.

I HAVE USED THIS COMPANY BEFORE AND HAVE BEEN SATISFIED. I GOT AN APPOINTMENT THE SAME DAY I CALLED. THE ESTIMATED ARRIVAL WINDOW WAS ONLY 30 MINUTES (WHICH MEANT I DID NOT HAVE TO WAIT AROUND FOR A WIDER WINDOW), AND THEY WERE PROMPT. AFTER THEY FINISHED THE WORK, I NOTICED MY NEW WASHER (WHICH HAD TO BE PULLED OUT TO REACH THE VENT) WAS VERY GOUGED UP. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH OWNER JAMES OWENS WHO SAID HE WOULD SPEAK WITH THE MEN WHO DID THE WORK AND CALL ME BACK. HE CALLED WITHIN AN HOUR. THE MEN WERE NOT AWARE THEY HAD DAMAGED MY WASHER, BUT MR. OWENS SAID SINCE IT'S HEARSAY, HE WANTED TO MAKE IT RIGHT AND PROMPTLY OFFERED ME A CHOICE OF A REFUND FOR THE WORK DONE, OR A CREDIT FOR FUTURE SERVICE. I OPTED FOR THE REFUND AND A REFUND CHECK FOR THE FULL AMOUNT I PAID WAS IN MY MAILBOX THE NEXT DAY. I VERY MUCH APPRECIATED THE WAY MR. OWENS HANDLED THE SITUATION, AND WILL CERTAINLY USE HIS COMPANY IN THE FUTURE.

I HAD AN ORDEAL OF A VERY BAD SMELL IN MY HOUSE, POSSIBLY FROM A DEAD RODENT, THAT JAMES OWENS WORKED WITH ME ON. HE AND HIS GUYS WERE HONEST AND GAVE PLENTY OF SUGGESTIONS OF GETTING RID OF THE SMELL SINCE THEY DID NOT FIND ANY DEAD ANIMALS DURING THE CLEANING PROCESS. OVERALL, I PROBABLY SPENT AN HOUR ON THE PHONE WITH JAMES REQUESTING HIS HELP AND OPINION, WHICH HE WAS WILLING TO DO. GOOD PEOPLE, GOOD WORK AND REASONABLY PRICED, THOUGH I DID FIND COMPANIES THAT WOULD HAVE DONE THE SMALL JOB FOR A LITTLE BIT LESS.

IT WAS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN OTHER, SIMILAR, BUSINESSES.

OWENS CHIMNEY SERVICE WAS SCHEDULED TO ARRIVE BETWEEN 10:00 AND 10:30 AM. THEY CALLED TO ASK IF THEY COULD COME EARLY. I SAID YES. THEY ARRIVED ON TIME (THE NEW AGREED UPON TIME), THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL, FRIENDLY AND POLITE. THEY TOOK GREAT CARE AND PROTECTED THE FLOORS BY COVERING THEIR EQUIPMENT AND THEIR SHOES. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY.

THEY DID A GREAT JOB. THEY WERE PROMPT, PROFESSIONAL, NEAT, CLEAN, AND VERY RESPONSIVE. WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM FOR ANY CHIMNEY/FIREPLACE REPAIR OR RELINING.

I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE WORK THEY DID. THE GUYS THAT CAME TO CLEAN THE VENTS PUT BOOTIES ON THEIR SHOES SO AS NOT TO TRACK IN DIRT. THEY SEEMED TO KNOW WHAT THEY WERE DOING AND DID A THROUGH JOB. I HAD ANOTHER COMPANY COME AND ''CLEAN'' THE VENTS. $135 LATER AND SEVERAL HOURS, THEY WEREN'T ANY CLEANER THAN WHEN THEY STARTED. I THOUGHT OWENS DID A THOROUGH JOB AND USED BRUSHES AND A LARGE VACUUM. THEY WERE ON TIME AND VERY PROFESSIONAL. THE CHIMNEY REPAIRS HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT DAY DUE TO RAIN. WOULD RECOMMEND.
