Chris and his assistant provided outstanding service.

We were having problems with drafts and a stuck damper. The guy told us there was some debris that was blocking it and preventing it from closing properly. He cleaned out the debris, and though the damper is old it works much better now, and we didn't have to replace it. He also did an inspection and showed us some other problems with the chimney, but since we are renters we didn't want to do any major repairs and just passed on the information to the owners. He also gave us some pointers on how to minimize the loss of warm air up the chimney to save us some money. They were courteous and competent.

My experience with this company was great. I received three confirmation calls between the date and time of service. The technician showed up on time, explained the procedure and placed tarps across the floor in order not to track in mud and debri. The process was clean and efficient.

The technician arrived on-time. He did a thorough job and went over the findings of his inspection. I have used Owens in the past and I have never been disappointed in any aspect. I highly recommend them.

I received a call today from a lady at Owens Chimney Systems in response to my Angie's List review (below). She called to let me know that they had just started using an updated credit card processing system and that is the reason my processing had been so slow. She apologized for any concern that may have caused and also noted the worker who serviced my home had been with them for 16 years. On the other issue of missing the Angie's List special by one week, she refunded the difference between the special price ($99) and what I paid the week before ($144) - without my requesting it. IN ADDITION TO DOING AN EXCELLENT JOB CLEANING CHIMNEYS, THEY ALSO HAVE DEMONSTRATED THAT THEY CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS AND WANT TO KEEP THEM. I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM. Original review follows... They called to verify the appointment the day before and showed up - on time - the day of the appointment. One worker cleaned and checked the chimney from the inside, while the other worker did the same from the roof. They used a drop cloth to keep our carpets clean while working inside. The only minor issue I had dealt with payment, which was not explained upfront. I had expected an invoice for the work, but the workers asked to be paid upon completion. That was fine, but then one worker took my credit card and went out to his truck to do the paperwork. The paperwork seemed to be taking more time than needed, so I went out to check on my card. Given all of the possibilities for identity theft in today's world, I would have preferred to handle billing through a central office rather than handing my credit card to a worker. Next time, I will arrange for payment in advance to avoid this issue. I also got an email today about a $99 special they are running. I would have appreciated that information last week since we just paid $144 for the same job.

Very good experience. First time having a chimney cleaned. They were very honest in pointing out potential issues and the priority of the issues, and different courses of action for resolution, as well as very informative about why these could be issues, as well as good advice on improving the chimney draw. They were clean, friendly, professional, and very trustworthy, not to mention very knowledgable about their jobs.

Technician arrived 45 minutes late and was not very personable, but I guess I didn't expect an exuberant personality, so no big deal. Big laundry list of needed work was then handed to me at the end of the job, including multiple cracks/voids in the flue that he said needed to be repaired. I inspected the flue after he left and did not see a single crack or void. Actually, it looked like the flue had been patched successfully before using the method he described. Questionable if the actual repairs were needed - going to have my contractor do some additional investigation. Granted I am not a professional, but I would recommend doing some follow up inspection regardless of who you use, especially if they give you a big list of required repairs. I regret not asking him to show me exactly the areas he was talking about during his inspection.

They had to reschedule due to a death. Very polite and rescheduled quickly. They gave me an approximate time period and were about an hour later than scheduled (due to first call taking more time than expected), but called and told me about the delay and when to expect the tech. They cleaned the chimney and removed a dead squirrel. I was told about a chimney cap that was slightly too large for our chimney and was told the squirrel made it in that way. We decided not to get a new cap and the tech was very professional about it with no pressure whatever to purchase the new cap. VERY HAPPY with service!

The man who inspected my fireplace/chimney, Chris, gave clear explanation concerning what was wrong and what needed to be done to get the fireplace in good condition and safe to use. With pictures he took with a digital camera, problems from the roof could easily be seen. When he returned to do the installation, he completed quickly and gave detailed information about fireplace use and other things specific to type of fireplace I had. Before and after repair/installation I had concerns and many questions. When I called the company, James Owens, owner, was always professional, knowledgeable and helpful. I did have concerns about spending this much money on something I did not understand; however, after all my questions and concerns were addressed with clear explanations, I was happy to be getting my fireplace in working order and feel I chose the best company to do the work. I will definitely use them again.

I chose this company even through they were twice as much as some of the others I spoke with because of they professionalism and knowledge. They called a few days before to remind me and were right on the button with time. Very clean and very clear with the explanation with the condition of the chimney. I look forward to getting the photos and the report as to know what my next step is preparing my chimney for gas logs.

They were right on time. I thought they carried out their duties just as they described them to me over the phone when I set up the appointment. They did not leave a mess.......I was well pleased with their services.

The guys were very professional and did a fine job (clean, thorough, efficient, very clear communication). There was some confusion between me and the CSR, who had quoted me an inspection price when I was seeking (and thought I had received) a price for inspection + sweeping. We worked it out on the phone after the guys arrived and the disconnect became apparent to all of us -- Owens did the right thing, which was to match the bid I had received from another A-rated Angie's List service provider (I had chosen Owens because the quote they gave me was the lowest of all I received from A-rated Angie's List firms). They were reasonable about it and I would clearly use them again.

They were excellent and easy to work with. They cleaned up everyday and did not mess around. They did a great job and we would like to hire them again. I felt the price was expensive but they worked with me to make it fair. I felt they were the only ones who could do this job for me.

Strong smoke-like odor was coming from the fireplace - when no fire was lit. Called Owens for a chimney sweep and inspection. They were able to send out a crew of two people a couple days later - which was great. On the day of service, the main office called me to let me know the crew was going to be 15 minutes late. Crew showed up, performed the sweep and inspection, and showed me several digital photos which allowed me to see the condition of the fireplace/chimney. Inspection turned up various problems, some expected (cracks/loose bricks inside firebox) and some not (lightning strike/damage to bricks and flashing at top of chimney). A week later, I received a quote in the mail to fix the various problems with my chimney/firebox. So far, the odor is gone and the damper closes much easier now that all the debris is gone.

Scheduling was a breeze. Technicians were late, but called to let me know. They were in and out of here within the hour I had set aside. They told me what they found and provided recommendations for future servicing.

The men came to the house on time and cleaned-up each day before they left (3 day job). They were professional and courteous.

I did not have them do work but my interaction with them was fine. They were very professional. They had a very helpful attitude that stood out. They definitely came across as knowing their trade very well. They explained everything very well.

Our old chimney has two dampers-one was not opening. Called for appointment, when the gentleman came, he was right on time, fixed the damper and then double checked it a couple of times(each time, he'd come into the living room, then go back on the roof). He also noticed that the damper on the other side wasn't closing properly, as it was getting stuck on some caulk. He removed the extra caulk and now both sides work great.

They were very conscientious and explained what they were doing and answered all of our questions. They do a wonderful a job and we would recommend them.
