Owens Chimney Systems

This provider did a Level 1 chimney sweep inspection for $135 (Angie's List Big Deal). They provided us with a detailed report and digital photos that are very helpful as we move forward on next steps for making our 1955-era chimney safe to use.

That worked out real well. He did point out some things that need to be addressed or whatever. He pointed out why I had a bird's nest and what could be done to rectify it. I would have probably taken those steps and I actually had those steps out to the home owner but it really ultimately is up to her at this time anyway whether we do them or not. I thought that he was very thorough and very conscience about their work.

Found many things wrong with the chimney. Told us we need structural engineer. Chimney is pulling away from house. He was very thorough and very neat. Spread plastic all over the floor. Advised us not to use fireplace until work is completed. Since then we have had a structural engineer come out and everything Owens' representative said was accurate.

Chris Allen, tech, showed up on time (after I did receive a call from office that he was running late from an earlier appt.) and went right to work. I was stuck on a conference call in the other room and Chris inspected and swept the chimney without interrupting me at all. Once off the phone, I was able to talk more to him. He was very professional, knowledgeable and courteous. He noticed that we did not have a chimney cap installed and offered to put one on for us. He had no issues climbing on the roof while carrying a separate ladder in order to reach the top of the chimney to put on the cap. Everything was quick clean and worry free. Excellent service. Will definitely be using this service again for any chimney needs.

They are great. If they had not provided the service our home would have burned down.

Overall I had a decent experience with Owens - they came highly recommended from my realtor. The technician kept saying how busy they were and how long it would take to even get an estimate for some additional work (2 weeks for a price estimate because the technician had no idea what their products cost) .... Will definitely look for another company who can be a little more responsive in the meantime.

They made a thorough examination of the chimney and cleaned it. The technician was very careful to put down plastic so the soot and dirt was contained. Unfortunately, they discovered a major repair that would require a structural engineer. The chimney is pulling away from the house. |We are in the process of getting estimates on that problem.

Cancelled the service due to being six weeks out.

When I contacted the provider they informed me that their earliest available time to perform a sweep of my chimney would be 5 to 6 weeks away. This would be the end of November or early December. Since I needed to be able to use my fireplace well before then, I had to request a refund. In my opinion, they shouldn't be selling coupons for a service they can't provide until well after the need will have passed for most consumers. They were perfectly pleasant and responsive.

They inspect my fireplace and chimney. They climb up roof so they can check everything. They are very clean and professional. I highly recommend them.

The work was done professionally, neatly and on time. The results are that the leak is gone.

I was advised that there were several repairs that should be done for use. I am still waiting for an email with pictures and estimate. I plan to get a second opinion before having any work done.

The servicer who came to do the cleaning/inspection was new and he caused us great concern. We were not happy with his analysis of our fireplace, nor did we trust his advice. I immediately wrote to Owens (we've used this company since 2000) and the same day the owner, James Owens called me back. James listened to my concerns, agreed that his new guy was probably in the wrong, and sent a 2nd inspector out to review the findings and do a Level II inspection at not cost to us. The 2nd inspection greatly alleviated our fears. Although we were not happy campers at first, the company did everything possible to correct a bad situation, therefore, we give them an A+ rating again. The original inspector was an hour late, but he did call to explain.

Jim Owens is the best!! I first made contact with him after having another company do a sloppy and overpriced job in sealing my chimney when they had come back to fix a part installed four years ago which was still under warranty. When I called Jim, I was in quite a panic as I found out AFTER I had the work done, that this other operation had falsely advertised chimney certifications and Better Business Bureau affiliations for themselves that did not exist. Jim immediately put my fears at ease and reassured me that he would be able to fix anything that might not have been done correctly. He was very charitable and did not bad mouth the other company; in fact, Jim has so much integrity that he even apologized to me for people in his industry taking advantage of customers like me! Wow. He explained to me some of the science involved with chimneys and that the certification standards are very stringent because so much is at stake (house fire!). In fact, he and all his techs are not only certified by the national CSIA, but Jim is president of the North Carolina Chimney Sweep association. He knows his stuff and is able to explain it in laymen's terms. Jim was very reassuring and professional. He went above and beyond on the service call by calling the gas log manufacturer who made our fireplace logs to make sure if they were vented or unvented as they were not marked properly. He suggested that we add another CO2 detector and determined that the original "cap" that was sold to us (a lock top damper) should not have been placed on our chimney in the first place. I shudder to think of the danger that situation had put us in! I used a coupon from Angie's List to have the dryer vent cleaned (quick and thorough) and he gave me a deal on installing the new chimney cap. He was training a new hire and was very professional in every way. He and his staff were super neat and respectful. I literally cannot speak highly enough about Jim and his company. I wish all service providers could be like Jim and the staff at Owen's Chimney Systems

He was punctual, very nice and cleaned up after he was down. Very professional. I would definitely call them again and fully recommend their services.

Technician showed up on time and got to work immediately. Was very clean and thorough. Owens also offers a great cheaper option for relining than some other companies, and was not pushy on how dire the condition of the chimney was. If I wasn't selling this house, I would use them to perform that work.
