We had been a "Priority Advantage" member for approximately 6 years and were told we would receive the best price they could give us since we had been such good customers over the years. The Technician came out and did his energy analysis and emailed the quote to us later that day. Despite our "good customer" record, the price we received was over $2,000 higher than the nearest competitor.

It was excellent. They are really good. Their expertise is very invaluable. They knew everything about the project. They were on time. Everything was neatly done. They had to go into my attic and take some large equipment out. They were very accommodating to my work schedule. They took a lot of time explaining options to me, and equipment, and how each one worked. They didn't seem to be in a rush, and they were very educational. I have signed a service contract with him since they were so good. While up in the attic they noticed some loose flooring, and without being told they came with some plywood to stabilize it.
Description of Work: They replaced my heat pump system.

We have a service contract with Morris Jenkins which is $30/month, so there was no additional fee for the technician to come out. We were already aware that there was an issue with our upstairs unit as it would "freeze up: after running for a while. He was quickly able to pin point the problem, but luckily there was something that had not been done properly by the original AC installer and it was still under warranty for repairs. I DO have to agree with a previous review in that it seems as though the technicians earn a commission for offering additional services. This tech told us that we would probably need to replace the entire unit upstairs when in fact all we needed was an evaporator coil, he was also very persistent in trying to get us to pay for over $1500 in additional items. After having the original contractor and another company come give us an estimate, we do feel as though Morris Jenkins' prices are more expensive and they tried to get us to pay for things that we really did not need. We are pleased with the Priority Advantage plan that they offer and will probably continue that service, but not sure if we trust their word on repairs. When using them be cautious as you may end up with MORE than you need, or something that you just DON'T need at all!
Description of Work: We recieved our maintenance service for 2 AC units and water heater system. This service includes testing and thouroughly cleaning the system and safety inspeciton.

Response from Morris-Jenkins
Our tech recommended you replace your upstairs and downstairs capacitors. The manufacturer recommends the replacement of a capacitor more than 10% out of its range. In your case, your capacitors were rated at 5 MFDs. Your upstairs capacitor rated 4.3, and your downstairs capacitor rated 4.1, which would put them both outside of the manufacturer's specifications and needed to be replaced. Our tech also recommended a wet switch. Though a wet switch is not mandatory according to the manufacturer, they are recommended because they shut your unit off if there's a drainage issue. We are very pleased that you are happy with your Priority Advantage plan, because routine maintenance of your units is extremely important in keeping them up to factory standards and extending the life of your equipment. However, the point of the maintenance is to find small errors - like your capacitors being out of range, in this case - and fix them before the small problems lead to a much BIGGER one in the future! $1500 to bring BOTH units up to factory-fresh conditions is a small price to pay in comparison to paying for TWO BRAND NEW units down the road!

They indicated that after spending $1400 on the repair they could not guarantee the A/C would work well without possible future repair or replacement to compressor. The system is almost 12 years old so repair vs. replacement is important consideration. Their sales rep came out and priced a new system and it was $8000 to $9,000 for just an A/C. I had another company come out, and they found a different problem, as well as priced a new A/C system for $4,200. Consumer Reports rates the $4200 unit and brand highter than the brands MJ carries. That is a big difference . They act like they're the only honest guys in town. Way overpriced.
Description of Work: Diagnostic on my A/C but wouldn't give in writing a specific repair estimate. Thought the coolant line was clogged and the piston clogged. Also to replace blower cap. Compressor was pulling too many amps. Said it would be about $1400. never got back to me in writing. I will say they came out the very next day and were on time.

We had a service contract with Morris-Jenkins and twice a year they do heating and air-conditioning checks. We don't use them any longer partly because every time they come out, they would find something additional to do in the system and this is a new house we moved in to, we built the home and even though there's no problem you better take their word for it because you can't get in there yourself. I got the impression that they are in kind of commission so we kinda lost confidence in them. I always felt like they were a little over-priced for what they purported they were going to be doing, as far as the service contract, their pricing is very competitive. They're always on time.

Response from Morris-Jenkins
The purpose of preventative maintenance is to make recommendations to extend the life of your unit - that's why the tech would recommend doing something additional to the system when they came out. The idea is to spend a little to keep your unit up to factory conditions so you can avoid a much more expensive breakdown later.

We love them. They were out here within a few hours and fixed the problem. They did not charge us anything because of the service contract and they had worked on it before. At one time, we called them late and they were able to come out at eleven o’ clock in the night. They are available 7 days a week and they are very professional. We do not know how they compare price wise but they are very responsive and get the job done.
Description of Work: We use Morris-Jenkins Heating & Air for heating and air conditioning work. The last time that we used them was when we had a problem with one of the air conditioning units in the attic, it had gotten clogged up and so it overflowed in the ceiling. The upstairs hallway got wet. We have a service contract with them.

The two man installation team had the toughest job. Going into the hot attic and the temperatures during that week was in the 100's. They worked in the attic to remove the old unit, making several trips up and down the stairs. The removed the broken unit outside, put in another concrete pad for the new unit to rest on, and replaced my landscaping materials after they were done. They cleaned and hauled away the old unit, all the trash and other materials from the build out of the new unit. The Morris Jenkins staff was polite, professional, courteous, and very proficient. They came and left without causing any damage to my property. They didn't even need a cold drink because they came equip with their own refreshments. The staff seemed well trained and the overall experience was remarkably pleasant. The only reason I rated the Price a "B" rating was because my husband and I initially had a number in mind we wanted to spend and Morris Jenkins was slightly higher than other service providers but it was worth it. They stand behind their service - guaranteed in writing.
Description of Work: The upstairs air conditioner unit stopped working Friday, June 29 so I called Morris Jenkins service repair and explained my situation. The told me they were booked solid until Sunday. I didn't mind since the downstairs unit was working. They promised to come on Sunday at 12 noon and arrived at 11:55am. At 12:05, the serviceman gave us an assessment of the damage, provided options on how to repair it and told us the price of each option. The unit was near dead (12 years old) and was put on "life support" until we could get the consultant over on the next day to discuss the cost of a new unit. We had cool air on Sunday night. He completed his work at 12:25 and made arrangements for the consultant to visit the next day. The consultant arrived on time, assessed the "limping" unit, took pictures, came downstairs out of the attic, and discussed the situation we were facing. He explained in terms that were easy to understand, showed us the pictures he'd taken of our unit, told us the options we had available to us and opened the "price book." We made a decision on which unit we wanted and questioned him about the heating unit. He told us the builder cut corners to save money and didn't use the same brand of heater as the air unit. We viewed what was available in a heating unit and he gave us a half price discount because we were purchasing an entire unit (heating and air). The appointment was set for Saturday, July 7th. Morris Jenkins would take care of all the permits needed to start the work and schedule it for inspection after the work was completed. The two man team arrived on time, put on their blue shoe covers (each service person did that for every visit) even when I told them it wasn't necessary to do. It was hot in the attic but they worked to get the old unit out, removed the unit outside and set up this "Rolls Royce" of a unit compared to the unit I had, which was more like a Ford Pinto . It took about 7 hours total to get everything completed, another electrician stopped by to assist and around 5pm, the work was done, they cleaned up the areas (inside and outside), offered to vacuum my carpets (I didn't need them doing that - they covered the floors in the areas they worked) and left my husband and I in a house that was beginning to cool in the upstairs area. The unit was so much better than the old one, we had to turn the temperature up to keep from freezing to death. Overall, it was an awesome experience, the best no-hassle deal we'd made in a long time and we are completely satisfied. Not only did we get the new unit, we received a new easy to program digital thermostat (it was placed downstairs since we had a digital one upstairs) and carbon monoxide detectors, There were less expensive units in the "price book" but we wanted one with a long warrant on parts and service since we plan to stay in our home for several more years. I highly recommend Morris Jenkins.

A total debacle. They did only about 1/3 of the work but were all too happy to take the full contract price. After I let them know that they didn't do the work, the install supervisor I talked to promised to come out the following week and make me "super happy." He never called back or showed up. On the following Monday, the install guy came out to adjust the dampers and let me know that they didn't put them all in; three had been left out. He promised to call back that day or the next and would personally put the dampers in. I never heard from him again. Over a month has passed and they have made no attempt to contact me regarding this job. As far as I'm concerned, they abandoned this job unfinished. Worse, they took money from me for work they didn't do. The only thing that's keeping this out of the hands of the state attorney's office is the fact that I had time to stop payment on the check. I WAS a priority advantage customer, but if this is how they treat their "priority" customers, heaven help those who aren't paying the monthly fee for the privilege of this kind of abuse. In light of the recent negative publicity this industry has had, one would think a REPUTABLE company would bend over backward to make sure they weren't associated with the bad apples. I guess Morris-Jenkins is one of the bad apples.

One of our two AC units froze over so we phoned Morris Jenkins for repairs. The technician, Beau, was nice and professional, but his assessment and solution of our problem seemed excessive. He inspected our system and said we needed a new coil that would cost about $2,200 so why not just buy a new unit. I happen to work with the assessment of medical equipment so I asked questions about the unit's estimated life. Beau indicated AC units last 10-12 years and mine was 8. He talked about my need to be in compliance with an upcoming regulatory change--I asked "am I in compliance now?" he said "yes." The repair history on the unit really hasn't been excessive so I wasn't quite convinced it was in need of replacement. In truth, the cost alone prompted me to reroute this issue through our home warranty, which should have been done in the first place. Beau got paid for the service call and he went on his way. The following day a contractor sent out by the home warranty company came out and determined there was really nothing wrong with our unit. Yeah, it needed cleaning and he topped off the freon--done! Our out-of-pocket expense with him was the $100 deductible and worth every penny of it. This repair person said our AC units were really nice--some of the best out there. Now here's the kicker, I'm back at work and strike up a conversation with another woman and mentioned my AC saga. Her mouth dropped open because it was almost to the letter what SHE had experienced with Morris Jenkins only four days earlier! Lucky for her, she also declined the coil replacement and new unit and sought a second opinion which had a less expensive option. Coincidence? Maybe. But then again, maybe not.
Description of Work: Morris Jenkins was called out to repair our AC unit which had frozen over. An assessment and quote were issued but declined due to cost and seemingly excessive solution. Second inspection by another company suggested a simple, low cost solution.

I don’t know if I had been lucky. Everybody who has ever come here was very professional. They did not try to sell me anything that I don’t need. They come and do the job that I asked them to do. They are courteous. They just have got super employees. I am sure that comes from management top down. Their pricing is probably a little higher than their competitors, maybe 10% higher. I know that they are not the least expensive, but sometimes you get what you pay for. One thing that I like they give me a window of when they are going to be there. They call me half an hour before they come. That helps a lot. I am not tied to the house waiting for somebody. They are super professional. I think they pick the best in the area and hire them. I will definitely use them in the future.

My HVAC system had not been serviced since I moved into my house a few years ago. Scheduling an appointment by phone was easy. Bobby the serviceman was punctual, friendly, professional and seemed to do a good job as my furnace has run beautifully all winter. He made a few welcome suggestions regarding the servicing of my air conditioner this spring. I was especially impressed that he didn't try to sell me a new system. Several years ago I called Morris-Jenkins because my furnace needed emergency repair. The temperature had fallen to 20 degrees and my regular repair company was booked and could not get to me for 2-3 days. M-J came out right away, but all they wanted to do was bad-mouth the service company that I had been using and to sell me an expensive new HVAC system, which I wasn't ready to do. I was so disgusted with their business practices that I decided to wait the two days for my regular repairman to fix my furnace (which was still working when I moved out 3 years later). The only reason I decided to give M-J another try was because of the Angie's List 'special' they were offering on a routine check-up. However, my experience this time was totally opposite from the first encounter I had with them. I will definitely have Bobby come out again this spring to service the air conditioner.

On the first week of this month (January, 2012) the central heating of our home died. We called the service provider who regularly maintained our HVAC unit and arranged for one of their servicemen to come to the house on Saturday, 09 January. The man arrived promptly and examined the system. The problem, he uncovered, was that the compressor to the system had broken down. This was not a surprise; the compressor had been running jury-rigged for longer than we had a right to expect. In terms of replacement, given the age of the entire system, it was more cost-effective in the long run to replace the entire system. The serviceman quoted a price of $7,785.00. Bear in mind, this service provider had performed excellently for us for years, solving problems that had baffled other, earlier providers. There was no reason to doubt that this was a fair price for the work involved. After the serviceman departed, my wife and I considered that, given the expense, perhaps we should investigate other providers and get some other offers to compare. We recently joined Angie's List to research other home repairs we have in mind, so I sat down and researched other central-air-and-heating outfits, narrowing the list down to two listed here. My wife called both. Of the two, only Morris-Jenkins answered the telephone. (The other took voice-mail.) The same day---again, a Saturday---on a cold call, Mr. Jerry Rollins, from Morris-Jenkins, came out and examined our HVAC system. Ultimately, Mr. Rollins informed us that Morris-Jenkins could offer us not just a replacement system, but one with a significant upgrade, for the price of $6,900.00. We're not poor, but nearly $900.00 in savings is not something we can afford sneeze at, either. The work, Mr. Rollins assured us, could be done on the upcoming Monday, 11 January. The first thing Monday morning, my wife cancelled the arrangement with the other service provider. When she explained why, the original provider assured us that it could beat Morris-Jenkins' price. They might very well have, but here was the thing, as far as we were concerned: why didn't that company give us its best price Saturday morning? We shouldn't have to be caught in the middle of a bidding war. For any service companies reading this commentary, that is something to take away---when you offer a price for your services, make it the best price possible, because folks are going to compare, especially with tools like Angie's List available. The servicemen from Morris-Jenkins arrived on Monday morning, as promised. In fact, they were early, which is an upcheck with me. I remember the name of only one of the two fellows---Duane. I was absent for most of the work; my wife oversaw it. But from what I could gather, they worked knowledgably and efficiently, despite the unusual quirks that this house always presents. They arrived a little before 0900 and by 1500 that afternoon, they had installed a new 2.5-ton A/C and heat pump, including a new return box and emergency drain pan and safeties. Even though the original plan called for utilising the existing duct work, they installed a new down spout at no extra cost. They installed a new, digital thermostat with automatic controls, plus a few more nice-to-have bells and whistles. One thing in particular bears mentioning. The central unit is stowed in a closet just off the front-door foyer. Naturally, that's where a great deal of their work was performed. In that foyer, on a wall away from the closet, we have a high shelf with assorted bric-a-brac. During the time the Morris-Jenkins servicemen were here, that shelf gave way, dumping the contents to the deck. Now, this was completely unrelated to the work being done by the servicemen. One of the dowels supporting the shelf was unreliable and we had never gotten around to fixing it; it just happened to give way while the guys from Morris-Jenkins were here. After the new HVAC system was installed and Duane was showing my wife and myself the work for our inspexion, we discovered that Duane had re-installed the fallen shelf and made it more secure. As I said, it wasn't their fault it had fallen, and certainly was something Duane didn't have to do. It was simply something he did for us. It was a generous gesture that my wife and I appreciated a great deal. It was at the end of a busy day for them, and like anyone else who puts in a hard day, no doubt their thoughts were on getting done and getting home. Yet, Duane took the time to do that for us. That's the kind of thing a customer doesn't forget. They cleaned up after their work so neatly, you'd never known they were there. They scheduled the visit from the city inspector for us. And, most conveniently for us, instead of billing us on the spot, they sent us an invoice for payment. That was handy because we had to juggle a few accounts around to free up the necessary funds to pay them. We received the invoice yesterday (20 January) and we paid them. The city inspector arrived on the date scheduled and the work passed muster. The new system has been in place for nearly two weeks, and with the unusual swings in outside temperature lately, we have put the system through its paces. So far, it has worked efficiently and responds to adjustments rapidly. The old system had been labouring for quite awhile, I can tell now, but we hadn't really noticed before. With the new system in place, the improvement is obvious. The rooms heat and cool much more thoroughly and rapidly. I won't know until February's power bill arrives, but I'm fairly certain, we will see a significant savings there. Whenever a householder is confronted with a major expense, such as this, there's always a concern over picking the right service provider---did you get a good price? is it good equipment? was it installed properly? In the case of Morris-Jenkins, the answers to those questions are yes. Morris-Jenkins provided outstanding service on a short-fuzed notice.
