Scott had done work for us before, so we were confident in his abilities. He was polite as always. Scott did a great job! He replaced the receptacles quickly. He also gave advice about adding a protective cover to an outdoor receptacle to prevent water damage. He went the extra mile by answering some questions about other projects we are considering for the future.
Description of Work: Replaced two receptacles.

Scott did a great job He came out and gave me an estimate which was very competitive. He arrived on time at 9am and had the new panel installed and the power back on in 4 hours. He came back the next day to do some other work inside the house and did not charge me labor only parts for the second day. I am a registered Architect in NC and work with many electrical contractors on a variety of projects. I would have to say that Scott is up there with the best. I would call him back for other work in the future.
Description of Work: Removed and old Zinsco main house panel & 17 circuit breakers and installed a new 30 circuit Square D panel with new circuits. Installed new ballast in kitchen light. Installed 2 new GFCI outlets in the garage. Rewired fan/bathroom light.

Scott was very pleasant to work with. He went above and beyond the call of duty in installing the foyer light without an a-frame ladder (his 12-foot couldn't reach), so he was willing to try to use our 2-story ladder leaned against the wall forcing him to install the fixture with one arm - he did and it looks great. He cleaned up his mess and charged a very fair price.
Description of Work: Installed dining room, kitchen, and foyer fixtures. Also installed 4 exterior light fixtures. The foyer light fixture was very difficult to install given that it was a two story foyer.

Overall Scott did a very nice job. He was courteous, cleaned up after himself and billed me later for the work. He knows his job well and I will continue to use him.
Description of Work: I called Scott because it was the middle of summer and my attic fans had stopped working. He replaced both attic fans in the sweltering heat and then replaced my two front porch lights which had shorted out. The previous lights had been installed improperly with a screw going into the wiring. This could have caused a fire. Scott had to make a hole on the interior wall to replace the bad wiring. He patched and sanded the hole he made. I also had him come back and remove an old alarm box which he said he could put an outlet in it's place and give me a light in my under the stairs closet. He is very efficient and timely.

I had encountered problems finding an electrician who would stop by within three weeks of my call. Scott took time before going to another job to fit me in. We met at the house, and he let me follow him through his process, answering questions I had about the receptacles and ground fault circuits. I left with more confidence for performing future repairs on my own, but feeling better from his repairs and assessment of the wiring in the house.

My kitchens electrical was kind of a mess as previous owners had added several switches and outlets in unique ways. Scott was able to come over the next day (as someone had canceled on him) and got everything straightened out after 6 hours with several spent in the hot attic. Overall Scott did a great job and was upfront with his pricing ($75 an hour.) I think the materials he charged me were a bit expensive but that seems to be par for the course. I would recommend him again.
Description of Work: Scott rewired my kitchen by reducing and moving 5 three way switches to 4, moving 2 outlets to a new location and wiring a new junction box. Scott arrived on time and did a great job.

Mr. MacCallum was very friendly and listened to what I was saying. He didn't act like he was bothered by my "beginner electric" questions. In fact, he was only coming here to fix my dishwasher connection and asked if I had any other problems. That's when he went through what I thought was a rigorous process to find the root of the problem I had with a completely different electrical issue. He fixed the problem and replaced a broken part in another location.
Description of Work: I had a new dishwasher installed because the old one broke (or so I thought). When the installers tried twice, with two different dishwashers and neither worked, I knew I needed help. Mr. MacCallum came over and fixed the lose wiring causing the problem and then helped me replace a few electrical sockets that needed repair.

Scott did fantastic work, was neat and efficient, and personable. He removed old fixtures that we had been having problems with for a long time. He gave us advice on what type of fixtures to put into those areas. He installed 11 recessed lights, three pendants, three under-counter fixtures and two hanging fixtures. The price above includes all fixtures and bulbs. He also put in two dimmers and re-worked two light switches. He does excellent work and cleans up after himself. He is a pleasure to work with (worked around our schedules), and we highly recommend him to anyone with any size job.

I needed a new circuit for the microwave. I have used Scott several times before so he is familiar with the house. What should have been a simple wiring job turned into an exercise in Murphy's Law. Most of the problems were not Scott's fault: the age of the house and the location of where the circuit needed to be added -- exterior walls, fire blocks, and other wiring was in the way. But Scott was able to solve the problem by removing and replacing a soffit on the house, using the hole he temporarily created as an access panel. I also had him add a GFCI outlet to an exterior wall, separate from the work for the microwave. While in the attic routing the wire for the microwave circuit, he almost fell through the ceiling. Fortunately he didn't, but he did create a 4-foot long crack in the ceiling. When he got down from the attic, he admitted his mistake, apologized, patched up the drywall, and knocked 25% off of his bill for the mistake.
Description of Work: Added a new circuit for the microwave and replaced a receptacle.

PERFECTLY. Mr. MacCallum arrived on time. Listened to our situation and went right to work. Immediately he found and corrected the problem in minutes. He's no nonsense and all business. Efficient. Wish we had checked Angie's List and discovered him earlier.

I hired Scott based on these ratings, but I found him to be rude, condescending, intimidating, and unprofessional. I spoke to him twice by phone prior to him coming out to do the work, and both times, I told him exactly how many fixtures I needed repaired/replaced. When he showed up at my door, I told him again. During the course of the six and a half hours he was here, he complained numerous times about the number of fixtures to be installed (despite the fact that he had been told 3 times previously and despite the fact that he was being paid by the hour). At one point, I went upstairs and saw him standing with one foot on his ladder and the other (with shoes on) on top of the expensive comforter on my bed. I didn't say anything because he had already so intimidated me with his tone and his manner. When one of the ceiling fans he installed did not function properly, I hired another company to fix it rather than have to deal with Scott again.

Scott promptly called me back when I called him for a quote. He was out of town but set up a time to meet me when he returned. Scott arrived on time and worked quickly and professionally. The wiring for the fan and the fan itself are working great. Scott is going to return in about 1 month to do the wiring for our new hot tub. Scott is very good and I would recommend him to anyone for their electrical needs. This is the 3rd project Scott has completed for us and I will continue to use him for all my electrical wiring needs around the house.

Scott responded quickly to my initial call for a quote (same day). After a discussion of exactly what we needed, he provided an estimate over the phone. We agreed to a day for the work to begin. On the day of the appointment, Scott arrived on time. He was polite and pleasant. He discussed fan and switch placement with me, then set about efficiently getting the job done. Because we had more than one day of work, we scheduled a second appointment. Scott was caught in traffic on the way to this appointment, but called to let me know he would be a few minutes late (how refreshing). His prices were right in line with other quotes, that I received from 2 other electricians and the job was completed as quoted. My husband and I are very pleased with the work. We will definitely use Scott again.
Description of Work: Wired, braced and installed 3 ceiling fans (fans provided by us). Replaced chandelier in entryway with a 16' ceiling (Fixture provided by us). Provided and installed 3 recessed lights in kitchen.
