Description of Work: Asked Mr. James to take a look at our lot for primarily a lawn renovation. He was very articulate, enthusiastic and appeared to know his stuff. He said he would come back with a proposal. His proposal consists of an invoice with an itemized list of what is to be done and a la carte pricing of each item. It does not include any drawings or sketches (nor did he say it would). Based on his reviews here I'm sure the ideas were good BUT 1) He did not even include a lawn estimate, which was our main objective and 2) the overall budget was much higher than we anticipated ($20K) I would not recommend him if you're main objective is lawn renovation.

THEY ALSO SPREAD GRASS SEED AND MULCH WITH WHEAT STRAW IN BARE AREAS. REMOVED LOWER BRANCHES FROM SPRUCE TREE IN THE FRONT YARD, IMPROVING THE VIEW FROM THE STREET. TRIMMED DOGWOOD TREE TO IMPROVE VIEW FROM THE STREET. REMOVE DEBRIS IN BACK YARD.

Description of Work: I CALLED TO GET AN ESTIMATE ON DOING A RELATIVELY SMALL RETAINING WALL. THE GUY WHO CAME OUT TO DO THE ESTIMATE WAS QUITE FULL OF HIMSELF. I MENTIONED THAT I WAS CONSIDERING DOING IT MYSELF, BUT WANTED TO SEE HOW MUCH IT WOULD BE TO HIRE SOMEONE. HIS REPLY IN AN ARROGANT, DEAD-SERIOUS TONE WAS 'GO AHEAD AND DO IT YOURSELF. AND WHEN IT FALLS DOWN, CALL US TO COME FIX IT.' HE ALSO MADE ANOTHER COMMENT I WON'T REPEAT HERE. HE THEN SAID HE WOULD E-MAIL ME AN ESTIMATE THAT EVENING. ABOUT 4 DAYS LATER, HE DID. THE ESTIMATE WAS ALMOST TWICE THE HIGHEST FIGURE I EXPECTED. MY NEIGHBOR HAS A RETAINING WALL ABOUT 3 TIMES THE SIZE OF WHAT I'M LOOKING TO DO, BUT HE PAID ONLY ABOUT 30% MORE THAN THIS GUY'S ESTIMATE. 3 YEARS OLD, IT STILL LOOKS AS GOOD AS IT DID ON DAY ONE. EVEN IF THIS GUY'S ESTIMATE WAS REASONABLE, I WOULD STILL CHOOSE SOMEONE ELSE WHO KEPT THEIR EGO IN CHECK.
