Kevin and his team were great throughout the process. In the planning stage, Kevin provided different options for us to consider to fix our problem and was available in person or by phone whenever my wife and I had any questions. They were great with our kids and made them feel a part of the construction process. He was also able to deal with a very difficult neighbor who made the process more challenging than it had to be. The finished product is beautiful and functional. We will definitely use him again in the future. Almost 6 months later, the new retaining wall looks great and Kevin’s recommendations about remedying the underlying drainage issues have resolved moisture issues in our crawl space and helped us to reclaim a portion of our yard which was a continual problem.

Crew showed up on the day/time as promised. I pointed out to Victor (crew chief) where the mulch needed to be applied. All work was professionally done and the crew cleaned the drive and walk ways before they left. I'm very satisfied with the work and will use Kevin James' services again.

This is the second time we've hired Kevin, we previously had him completely redo our natural area in our backyard, and we won't go anywhere else. He's honest, trustworthy and dependable. His team's work is excellent and I cannot recommend him enough. In addition, we had some large plants in need of renovation and Kevin had his team handle that as well, while they were out.

We needed an overhaul of our patio in a manor way. Kevin James met with me at my house and helped me design a new patio that met all of our needs. Kevin’s recommendation of materials (Belgard pavers) provided a very high-end appearance we were looking for. Kevin’s crew was wonderful to deal with and extremely professional.

Kevin fixed my fountain that stopped working. After he fixed it I noticed that it wasn’t working the way it should be, so he came right back and made some adjustments to it and now it is working great! Kevin is very professional, responsive, and very reasonably priced.

All work was done incredibly well. Patio looks great. All plantings have survived thus far. Kevin was very responsive to questions. Entire project was done punctually and correctly the first time.

He came to give me a consult. Although I said I found him through Angie's list he still charged the $150 instead of giving $50 off... either he didn't remember or you must actually PRINT the coupon. Not sure, but just a word to the wise for that. He did respond in a timely manner and was pleasant during the consult. Seems like a nice guy and I'm guessing he probably does good work, but it was hard to tell exactly what that would look like and why he would be the best for the job. He was clear about what portions of the work he would do vs. what he thought should be done by a GC or another contractor (based on if I used pavers v.s. concrete, etc.). He seemed most interested in doing the irrigation work v.s. a lot of the other landscaping. Maybe that is just how I perceived it though. Also, for the $150 you won't get anything in writing (other than the invoice/receipt). He gave some ideas that didn't seem logical at the time (building a seating area under a porch that would only be about 4-5 feet off the ground) so I couldn't follow some of what he was saying. Overall, I did not fee that I had a good understanding of what he would do with the yard if I hired him for that work.

Went well. They use high quality plants, work very efficiently, and greatly improved our property (as long as the grass grows).

I was told that it would cost $100 for Kevin to come out to give an estimate. He said that it was to protect him from us using his design and he would credit the $100 if we selected him. Makes sense, except that leaves the consumer at risk if his estimate comes in way high...which it did. He was actually double the cost ($12,000 vs $6,000 and $6,300 for the other two landscapers). The plan that he was afraid of me using consisted of a list of plants that we could choose from. Not an actual design. I'm sure Kevin does great work, which is why I wanted to get a quote for his service. But I simply feel cheated out of $100. That was reinforced in my own mind when he did not follow up after his quote. I guess he know what our answer would be.

No complaints - they had to alter the plan because we needed to reroute where the drain/pipes would end last minute. Kevin was very good coming up with an alternate plan, which was reassuring. The water problem has been solved and on top of that the crew is very professional. The lead guy was always here with the crew; they moved fast and were able to answer questions as the work was progressing. We had rain in the middle of the project and they were efficient on containing the area to prevent mud from going to the patio and pool.

Mr. James came to my house, discussed the project with me, charged me $150 less a $50 Angie's List discount (balance to be deducted from the cost of the project if I chose to use him), and send me an estimate with 1 number. I asked him for detail and he said his cards were on the table, how much did I want to spend? I think an estimate, as all the other estimates I have received, should supply detail for the various components of the project, specifically cost of removal, cost of materials, and labor related to each major category of work. I had nothing to compare with the other bidders. For $100 I should have received the detail I requested.

Every time we got a heavy rainfall, our driveway was a muddy river, and when the water dried up, we were left with the mud and dirt. Kevin came out to give us an estimate, and right away we felt comfortable with his knowledge and ability to solve the problem. I met Victor and the rest of the crew on the first day. It has been a very long time since we had work done by a group of people that care about quality as much as these guys do. The job took a few days. They hand dug trenches, installed drains and soil separator cloth, and covered everything with river rock. The job required removing and replacing a section of pavers and removing a section of concrete. They also relocated several plants. At the end of each day, they would thoroughly clean up, and Victor would explain what had been done and what would happen next. They arrived on time every day. Every member of the crew was professional and polite. The project was completed on time and as expected. We didn't have to wait long for the next torrential rain, and we're happy to say the drains that they installed work exactly as Kevin said they would. We would, without question, hire Kevin James Landscape again! Kevin and his team are amazing!

We can't say enough good things about Kevin and his crew. They did an excellent job and the yard looks beautiful. Everyone was very professional and knowledgeable. They checked with us throughout the process to make sure we were happy with the placement of the plants. They cleaned up everything, even washing down the walk. We couldn't be happier with the result. We would use them again and highly recommend Kevin James Landscape.

Kevin and his team did some paving and landscaping work for me in April 2014 and it was a fabulous experience so I am now coming back to him for some additional work. Kevin and his entire team are professional, punctual, responsive and go above and beyond. They took great care of my property and even though the job went into the next day as scheduled, they cleaned everything up before they left that night even though they were returning the next day. They did little extra details for me to make the space perfect. I had some stone put around the house and instead of just laying it down, they meticulously laid the larger stones around the boarder and filled in with the smaller stones (not that there is much difference between them but the detail is incredible). I receive compliments from everyone that sees the paving work and the landscaping and I give them Kevin's name every time. It took me awhile to find a quality landscaper and now I won't use anyone else. I realize my job is small in their world but they never make me feel that way. Kevin's focus is always to make the customer happy but will share ideas and suggestions to ensure it meets their vision. Kevin James Landscaping is exceptional in every way.

Kevin did a very high quality job. I had a major drainage issue and he understood the problem immediately and created a serious french drain that is able to move large amounts of water. He also tied my gutters into the drain which I did not realize was necessary but turned out to be very important. It looks good as well!

We can't say enough good things about Kevin. In Feb. 2015, my wife and I moved in to a brand new 4,029 sq ft home in The Palisades community west of Charlotte. Prior to closing, we hired an independent firm to conduct an inspection, and the final report noted "evidence of poor drainage near the foundation of the home at the rear right side." Although at that point we had about a week to address the situation before closing, the builder promised to rectify the problem immediately. A day or so before closing, the builder confirmed that they had "fixed" the issue. Now confident that we could proceed with closing, we moved in the following week. Within the first two weeks, we began to see evidence once again of poor drainage. This was noted by muddy soil indicating standing water at times, in this case the result of ice melting on several occasions. At this point, we began looking for a professional opinion from a third-party landscaper not affiliated with the builder, and relying on Angie's List, we found Kevin James Landscaping. Within the week, Kevin was at our home and informed us in his straightforward, expert manner that we had an "unacceptable" drainage design in our yard. The builder had obviously not fixed things, and Kevin - before we suggested hiring him - gave us a thorough explanation of the problem and solution. We paid him a small consulting fee, which he stated would be applied to any work done by his team should we go that route. The drainage situation continued throughout the winter, and one of our neighbors soon pointed out that well before we moved in, he had observed in the past that during heavy rains our backyard area "looks like a river." To be fair, the lot we purchased is a corner lot at the end of a street that slopes downward to the point of our home. In addition, three homes that surround our backyard are at a slightly higher elevation to us. However, before purchasing the home we made the mistake of assuming they would not have built a home on that lot if drainage was a severe problem. That said, sure enough a torrential downpour came in early spring, and for the first time we witnessed the extent of the drainage issue. Our neighbor was correct - we had the equivalent of a river dumping into our backyard. For the next several days, we had standing water in the rear of the house, and on the perimeter the standing water remained indefinitely. At this point, we knew the only alternative was to hire Kevin and his team. From the get-go, it became apparent that this was the best decision we had made in a while. Because he's an independent company working with a relatively small, tight, highly-skilled team, it took a little while for them to perform the work. Having said that, Kevin never once mislead us of our scheduled date, and when that day came around, his team performed the work flawlessly. In addition to addressing the drainage, we had them install a cobble paver patio and free-standing grill. Amazingly, they finished the job within a few days, in a big part due to the solid expertise of his longtime crew supervisor, Victor. Since the job was completed at the end of July 2015, we have been enjoying the patio, which our neighbors have commented looks great. But most importantly, Kevin and his team did indeed fixed the drainage issue. As one of his landscaping consultants once pointed out to us, "Kevin James can make a river run dry." In our case, we are thrilled to report that the drainage situation that had resulted from the "river" running through our backyard during heavy rains has at last become a thing of the past. If you want piece of mind knowing that your job will get done RIGHT the first time, built on quality workmanship and expertise that is the result of a company that has true passion and care for its work, you need to hire Kevin. He knows his stuff, and saved our lawn.

Kevin is our go-to person for landscaping. He handles everything, he does detailed invoicing, professional, he thinks about everything including maintenance and water control. He pulled everything out of the front and back yards and re-planted. he did a back patio and did a huge dig out for us to put in a shed. You do pay for his great services and knowledge. We continue to go back.
