Hughes Floor Covering

A disaster from start to finish. Mr. Hughes did the evaluation of the old floor and design of the new floor himself. The new floor and under layers turned out to be about 1/2'' thinner than the old floor, which created all kinds of problems with gaps and moldings. The installation was terrible. The sub-floor they recommended and installed was not strong enough, so the floor had a soft, spongy feel to it. The pieces were glued poorly, fitted together poorly. Extensive damage to baseboards, toilets, cabinets, anything touching the floor.

I went to Hughes to look at new hardwood flooring. My home is on a slab and it seemed that everyone has a different idea of how to install new hardwood. Randy was very helpful and knows the products well. He came out a few days later to measure. I also worked with Angie to make selections. They were so helpful in making the right choices and the process went very smoothly. We put hardwood on the first floor and replaced all the carpeting upstairs, and also put tile in the baths. There was ceramic tile in the kitchen that needed to be taken up and that was no problem and no damage occurred. Any small problems that arose were immediately taken care of. I think the price we paid was higher than most stores, but we received good service and quality materials.

They did a great a great job! They went way above and beyond. They have great follow up and had good prices. I called them from California and they did the job without seeing it first.

Person came out on 8/30. Didn't received a quote. Called twice, but still didn't receive a quote.

The product purchased is excellent. Measurements were incorrect resulting in significant shortage of trim, wrong size trim special ordered for fireplace and only a few pieces of wood flooring stock left over. Workers did not show until noon on first day. Said I had cancelled the job so they were sent home. Another mistake by Hughes. Very disappointed in work and craftmanship. Damages to existing painted trim, furniture and plant life. Return trips to fix floors that pop (not glued), install fireplace trim and fix trim installed with large gaps. This was definitely not the experience I anticipated or would wish to pay for again.

The installer showed up two days late for the scheduled date to begin work (after I made the appointment over 3 weeks in advance and was told that they could be ready in 2 weeks). The tile and backer board work took 2 days, and then they had to come back a week later to install shoe molding and reducer bars (transitions between hardwood floors and tile). They had the wrong size reducers twice. It took them a month and a half to come back, between the shoe molding and the reducers. Whenever I called to find out what was going on, the company would blame the installers for the problems and the installers would blame the company or the warehouse for the problems. The only straight answer I got once I had the job under contract was PAY US. And I hired them because they had a coupon on Angie's List, meaning they are a good company. NOT.

Company too busy to handle request I would not call again for quote. I would give other companies needing work a chance.

The entire process was fantastic, from the sale to the installation. I did shop around at other carpet stores, but Hughes matched another bid I received. I went with them because they were a family business and made me feel comfortable. They assisted with educating me during the sales process, and stayed in communication through the installation process. My original carpet was not installed correctly so I knew what I didn't want. Hughes sent knowledgeable people to install the carpet who had been doing this for 10+ years, and it came out perfect.

No issues with job. Work was performed on-time and quality of installation was good. They cleaned up after themselves and were courteous. Only part they should improve on is their initial quote is written on a standard piece of paper, would be more professional if on company quote form.

Installation went fine. Would hire again.

Overall experience was great. Would hire them again. Both sales and installers were professional and a pleasure to work with.

EXTREMELY RESPONSIVE. THEY DID EVERYTHING I ASKED THEM TO DO.

HE MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 6 PM, HE MISSED IT AND THEN CALLED US AT 7:30 PM. WE RESCHEDULED FOR THE NEXT DAY AT 6:30 PM, HE DID NOT CALL OR SHOW AT THAT TIME. THEN HE SHOWED UP AT 8:15 PM, AND I WAS IN MY NIGHT GOWN. IT TOOK 3-4 DAYS TO GET AN ESTIMATE. IT WASN'T A GOOD EXPERIENCE.

RESOLVED ALL OUTSTANDING ISSUES TO MY SATISFACTION. WORK WAS PROFESSIONALLY COMPLETED, IN A TIMELY MANNER. ISSUES WERE WITH HARDWOOD VENDOR, NOT HUGHES. HUGHES HELPED GET CORRECTIVE ACTION FROM VENDOR. I WILL USE HUGHES AGAIN IN THE FUTURE. CRAFTSMANSHIP WAS EXCELLENT.

OUR INITIAL CONTACT WAS WITH ANGIE, WHO WAS VERY PROFESSIONAL, COURTEOUS AND PROMPT. HUGHES FLOOR COVERING WAS NOT THE LOWEST BID, BUT WE CHOOSE THEM BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL OF SERVICE WE FELT ANGIE WOULD PROVIDE. THEY WERE VERY EASY TO DEAL WITH. THE ACTUAL INSTALLATION WAS QUICK AND VERY CLEAN. WE HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS OR COMPLAINTS SINCE THEY FINISHED THE JOB. GOOD CRAFTSMAN. WE WILL USE THEM AGAIN IN THE FUTURE AND WON'T WASTE OUR TIME WITH OTHER BIDS...!! JOB WELL-DONE...!!

THE WORK WAS FINISHED IN THE BEGINNING OF MARCH. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CONNECT THE EXISTING HARDWOOD FLOORING WITH THE NEW, BUT THEY DID NOT. THEY INSTALLED A THRESHOLD WHICH DIVIDES THE OLD AND NEW FLOORING. WE DON'T LIKE THE WAY IT LOOKS BECAUSE WE PAID EXTRA SO THAT THE FLOORS WOULD BE CONNECTED. WE'VE MADE NUMEROUS CALLS AND HE KEEPS SAYING HE WILL COME OUT, BUT THEN MAKES UP EXCUSES EVERY TIME AND WE DON'T SEE HIM. I FEEL LIKE THEY'RE GIVING ME THE RUNAROUND AND NOT BEING HELPFUL IN RESOLVING THE PROBLEM WITH THE WORK. HE'S MISSED ABOUT THREE APPOINTMENTS ALREADY, AND THE WORK IS NOT COMPLETED TO MY SATISFACTION.

I KNOW THEY'VE HAD BAD RATINGS, BUT I DIDN'T HAVE THAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE WITH THEM. THEY'RE GOOD PEOPLE.

SHE CAME OUT RIGHT AWAY AND SHE WAS VERY PLEASANT. I WAS VERY PLEASED WITH THE EXPERIENCE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND THEM TO OTHERS.

AT FIRST THEY TRIED TO TELL US THAT THE FLOOR SQUEAKED BECAUSE OF A PROBLEM WITH OUR SUBFLOOR, NOT THEIR WORKMANSHIP. THE FLOOR STILL SQUEAKS IN A COUPLE OF PLACES. MY HUSBAND HAD TO LEND THEM TOOLS--THEY WERE NOT PREPARED. I DON'T KNOW IF I WILL USE THEIR SERVICES AGAIN.

THEY ACTED LIKE THEY DID NOT CARE IF THEY DID THE WORK OR NOT. HE DID NOT EVEN HAVE A BUSINESS CARD. IF I WANTED ANY FURTHER CONTACT I HAD TO LOOK HIM UP IN THE YELLOW PAGES. I WOULD BE AFRAID TO TRY AND HIRE THEM AGAIN.

THERE WERE MANY PROBLEMS. THEY DIDNT NAIL IN SEVERAL AREAS OF THE QUARTER RAIL. THEY DIDNT HAVE THE PROPER MATERIALS FOR THE THRESH HOLDS, SO THEY USED UNFINISHED WOOD THAT WASNT INSTALLED CORRECTLY. THEY COMMITTED TO CORRECTING THE PROBLEMS, BUT WOULDNT COME OUT TO MAKE THE REPAIRS. I CONTACTED THE SUBCONTRACTOR AFTER DEALING WITH HUGHES, AND HE SAID HUGHES HADNT TOLD HIM ABOUT THE COMMITMENT TO FIX THE MISTAKES. I HAD TO INITIATE A DISPUTE PROCESS WITH MY CREDIT CARD COMPANY. THIS FINALLY CAUSED THEM TO MEET THE COMMITMENT, THOUGH THERE WERE STILL DELAYS. THEY TRIED TO CHARGE ME FOR WOOD THAT WASNT USED, WHICH I DISCOVERED AT THE LAST MINUTE. THEY STILL CHARGED ME FOR LABOR. I FOUND THEY CHARGED ME FOR MATERIALS THAT I ACTUALLY PROVIDED. A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE.

WHEN HUGHES INSTALLED THE CARPET THEY PUT A BIG UGLY SEAM IN THE HALLWAY BETWEEN TWO DOORS, THIS RESULTED IN 3 SEAMS CONNECTING. THE CARPET AT THE SEAM STOOD UP, YOU COULD SEE IT FROM 30 FEET AWAY. WHEN WE COMPLAINED THEY SAID THAT IT WAS OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO HAVE SAID THAT WE DIDN''T WANT A SEAM IN THE HALLWAY. WE PAID A PREMIUM PRICE FOR THE CARPET ($35 PER YARD) AND WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPTION OF BUYING EXTRA CARPET TO AVOID A SEAM. WE THEN PAID $300 EXTRA FOR HUGHES TO REMOVE THE SEAM, BUT WHEN THEY DID THE WORK THEY DIDN''T REMOVE THE SEAM, THEY JUST MOVED IT A FEW FEET DOWN THE HALLWAY. WHEN WE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE SEAM NOT BEING REMOVED THE OWNER TOLD US THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. I HAVE TOLD ALL MY FRIENDS THAT HUGHES FLOOR COVERING IS A BAD BUSINESS, PLEASE TAKE MY WARNING SERIOUSLY.

SHE WAS 30 MINUTES LATE. SHE WAS VERY NICE, BUT THAT JUST UNNERVED ME.

COMING IN THE DOOR AND WALKING PAST ME TO MATCH HER SAMPLES TO FLOORING I DID HAVE, WAS NOT EXACTLY A GRACIOUS MEETING!

ALTHOUGH SOME CARPET WAS DEFECTIVE, HUGHES IMMEDIATELY HANDLED THE PROBLEM AS PROMPTLY AS POSSIBLE. JEFF, STEVE, JOHNNY AND ED WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. ONE PERSON IN THE OFFICE WAS NOT HELPFUL ON THE PHONE, BUT EVERY OTHER PERSON INVOLVED WAS TOTALLY HELPFUL, POLITE AND PROFESSIONAL.
