Hughes Floor Covering

Please do not give Hughes your business. When we purchased our floor we were very clear that we had dogs and needed something durable. The salesman, Tim, came to our house and saw our existing floor and the space the new floor would be in, including said dogs. Our current floors are 15 years old and still in great condition, btw. We tried for 6 months to resolve this issue and they would not replace the damaged floors without additional cost to us. They were horrible to work with through the entire experience. They lied about submitting the initial claim and then refused to give us a copy after asking 6 times. I have never, ever written a review in my life but cannot let someone else experience what we did. Please, do not give your money to this unethical business.

In 2016 I contracted with Hughes Floor Covering to replacing the carpet in our master bedroom and closet with hardwood that matched the rest of our home. Hughes Floor Covering accepted the responsibility of providing hardwoods to match the home based on their expertise in the hardwood industry. They represented to us they had matched the wood in our home, and we agreed to contract with them. In November 2018 we requested an estimate from another hardwood company to sand and apply a lighter color finish to improve the look. We eventually contracted with this company during the pandemic and the work was completed in June of 2020. We found that the wood floors through most of our house are “White Oak”. But much to our surprise, the wood installed by Hughes Floor Covering is “Red Oak” (has a pinkish color to it). This was not noticeable before because of the darker “natural” stain that was used and only visible by having the floors sanded and stained a lighter color. I reached out to Hughes Floor Covering and they said that since it was installed in 2016, they weren’t interested in doing anything and the warranty would not cover the issue. However, the issue before us is not a warranty for defective workmanship or product. It has been discovered that Hughes Floor Covering breached the agreement by not installing the proper hardwood. It was promised as part of our agreement they would match the wood. To make sure, Hughes Floor Covering cut a sample out of our existing hardwood floor so their machine would identify the exact match and prevent this exact set of circumstances. The fact that Hughes Floor Covering has as much expertise in the industry as they do and have invested in technology that supports the accurate identification of the various would species, raises serious questions about how this breach of contract could have ever happened. The fact that they refuse to address the clear error on their part raises even more questions.

The salesman at the showroom helped al lot and answered all my questions. He gave me all the payment options and kept in tough with me throughout. They did a fantastic job. It looks amazing. Took them two days to get the fold floors and carpeting up. The workers were professional and polite. Finished product is amazing

Angie came out within 2 days of me calling to get estimates for flooring and carpet for steps. She was timely with the estimates provided and always did a wonderful job communicating updates as needed. I visited the showroom and Angie was able to pull out things that I was looking for based on what I had described I wanted and was a huge help in the process. We were able to order flooring to match what we had on our first floor and you cannot tell that it's 2 generations newer. Both installs went great with all providers being nothing but courteous, knowledgeable and hardworking! Each installer provided top notch service to make sure we were happy with the completed job and all arrived on time which is a rarity! Hughes was flexible with our floating contractor dates but we did have a wrong date for one install but was not a big deal as it was a small job and situation was immediately rectified and install happened 2 days later based on my availability. Happy to recommend Hughes Flooring and would absolutely use them again!

when rep came out to measure we discussed where the seam would be . it was to be down long wall down left side of room. i actually had to purchase more yardage to accommodate that particular lay out. when carpet was installed they seamed carpet horizontally across middle of room. after 1 month the seam was very obvious. over course of 1 1/2 month i spoke to 3 different people, including owner. each one told me he would check into situation and call me back. i left additional messages and as of aug 18,2016 i have yet to hear from hughes floor covering.

Mr. Hughes was very helpful to me in trying to recover from a really bad job of laying a wood floor in my home by another dealer. I appreciated his help tremendously and he went out of his way to get me a deal if the other dealer would not make it right. The other dealer has not yet made ammends and i will certainly return to Hughes Flooring for this or future dealings.

When the original job was done, there was an issue with a few of the hardwood pieces. We asked them to replace these and they did so immediately and to our satisfaction. Hughes has been very responsive to any issues that we have had. Their workers are pleasant, do a good job and clean up any mess that might be made. We have recommended them to our friends.

Professional and patient sales staff. Quick installation. I seldom give the highest rating because IMO there is always room for improvement.

It went very well. Matching my engineered hardwood flooring that was put down 8 years ago was not easy. The representative did not hesitate to go continue a search until he found an almost perfect match. The installers are most important as well. They opened a box of hardwood that was defective and showed it to me before installing. We agreed it was not acceptable and the representative had the distributor come out and look at the hardwood and reorder another lot. If the installers had not been professionals they would have installed it anyway. Both the company and installers wanted to make sure I was pleased with product and finished installation. All other installed flooring in bathroom, sunroom and kitchem went well and looks very good. I am most pleased with the finished flooring. Good Job by Hughes.

We are in the process of replacing our kitchen floor. We have been to different flooring stores and received various quotes. Roger and Randy were very very informative and schooled us (respectfully) about what we actually need to replace the floor in a 1973 house. We have had to delay our replacement due to other issues. When we do replace the flooring we will definitely be going to Hughes because of the time they were willing to take with us and educate us regarding how much flooring has changed

Rodney Hugh's personally conducted the initial call. He coordinated everything, as well as oversee workmanship. After work was completed came back to assure I was a satisfied customer. Hugh's family have been in Charlotte for years. I trusted their reputation, and fair price. That is why I personally se excited them.

I contacted Randy about repairing a damaged area of carpet in front of a door in one of my bedrooms. We spoke on the phone and went over the options for repair. We decided that it was best to take the carpet from the closet and repair the damaged area. Then carpet would be ordered for the closet to match the dye lot of the old carpet as closely as possible. The first phone call I spoke with the lady who answered the call and told her my issue and she said that she would have Randy call me right back. A few hours went by and I hadn't received a call so I called back and she said she was sorry and transferred me to Randy. He mentioned that he was busy but got the message and was going to call me soon. I fully understand this and was not upset at this point in any way. After we were done with the above mentioned conversation he had me text pictures of the damaged area and said he would call me after he got the pictures to let me know what he thought. Once again I didnt receive a call, so after an hour or so passed I called to make sure he received the photos. When I spoke to him he once again said he got busy but had gotten the pics and would be contacting Shaw to find out about the carpet. He told me that he was doing that right now and would call me back in 15 minutes. By the end of the day, I once again didn't hear back so I called thet day after and asked about it and he said he would call Shaw right now and call me back. Once again no call. I then sent him a text to let him know that I understand my job was small and would understand if he didn't have time to complete it but needed this done and would like to know either way so I could contact somebody to fix this carpet. He replied, "Yes I am trying to find price on carpet it is not our name I have call my rep to find out style ours an price then will get done Will let you know soon" I wanted to type that EXACTLY how it was sent so you could get a feel for what I was trying to understand. I added nor subtracted any words or grammar. I am writing this review 2 days after the last contact. Obviously I wont be using Hughes carpet. But, I am aware that this company probably does pretty good service and this may be just one of those situations, but this was my experience with this company. I have not received bad service in any way other than I was told multiple times that I would receive a call and had not.

Rodney Hughes was 45 minutes late to the appointment he made on Thurs., 6/26 to measure our first floor and discuss the details of the work we wanted done. Seemed knowledgeable and enthusiastic regarding the work. Upon leaving, he said that he would send us a written estimate via email the next day, Fri., 6/27. On Saturday afternoon, I sent a follow-up email asking for the status of the estimate. Still no reply, acknowledgement, or estimate over a week later. If this is how Hughes Flooring handles customers during the sales process, I wouldn't risk doing business with them. Obviously we have moved on with our planned flooring work and have selected another company who has been exceptionally responsive.

I spend a long time negotiating my project with Rodney. I had another offer at the same price, and essentially decided in favor of Hughes Flooring because Rodney had been very helpful, nice and responsive during our discussions. The work completed had no major issues but was not entirely what I had envisioned. For example, - Laminate intsalled in the kitchen had a small scratch. - Trim used was standard quarter round though I had asked for thinner trim. Installer then provided explanation that thinner trim could not be used because of gap size required between laminate and wall to allow laminate to expand. - Toilet in guest bathroom was not re-installed after laminate job because an actual plumber was required. Hughes took $50 off my invoice for that, though the actual plumber ended up costing me $200 for the toilet + $75 to fix the sink which was leaking. - Stairs. I dislike my stairs so much that I actually want to re-do them. The stair noses lie on top of the tread plane such that there is an edge/bump on each stair. That is, the tread depth is made up of 6.5 inches laminate + 2.5 inches elevated nose. Also, each stair nose has 3-4 small dents across its length showing where the nails were put in. The stairs I envisions had a smooth and flat transition between tread and noce, no edges, no dents, just a single smooth surface on each tread. The stairs probably were a misunderstanding. I could have never imagined that they turn out that way. IF I would have known goin in THEN I would have made sure to specify in my request for quote. For the furture, I would also recommend that Hughes inform their customers of just how dusty and dirty EVERYTHING will get, Especially since Hughes is not covering things up.

I started the process in April. They came out and gave me a verbal estimate and to take the measurements. I requested the estimate in writing so I could compare with other contractors and to get the best deal. I found someone else that was slightly better, but chose them because they actually brought the product out for me to view vs viewing online.I ended up having to call twice to get a written estimate and both quotes were different. They originally told me I could get the product on April 8th and then they told me the new date they can have the product was May 15th. I sent a request on the 14th to get an update, no response. I have called today (May 16th) twice and was put on hold. When my installer and I got the product we got through 15 boxes and found they were defective. They told me to try to clean the wood myself and to go through the 45 boxes to try to find the good ones. My home is torn up and I had to have three sets of family's cancel traveling plans for Mother's Day due to my homes condition. They were also advertising in the Angie's List magazine that they give a 200 dollar discount for any sale over 1000 dollars. When I requested that they told me that they couldn't give me that because the product was already discounted.

No excuse for how we were treated. That's why I am surprised to see the company had a high rating on here. Found another company who wanted our business!

It went very well. Good service right up to the point that they received payment. I have since been calling them to adjust the wooden floors upstairs which has some planks squeaking. They have taken weeks to visit and see the problem. Since then ( another 10 days have passed and still no news from them regarding an installer to visit to correct the problem. All I can say is that their post-sales customer service is way below expectations. This shows a lack of commitment to professionalism and normal courtesy.

The process with Hughes Floor Covering was good from beginning to end. I met with Rodney at the showroom and looked at samples and began to get ideas of how expensive this project would be. After a less than satisfied experience with 50-Floors, I was concerned about the installers who would do the job. Hughes uses only installers that have been working for them for many years and they were comfortable with the quality of the work done. This was important to me since I had come to learn that sales people can promise anything, but it is the installers who will really do the job and "make or break" the final quality and customer satisfaction. We were also concerned about laying carpet in the bonus room which had a pool table. This was not a problem for Hughes and their installers. My only negative comment about Hughes is that they do not put prices on their samples. Having previous experience with Mohawk "Smart Strand" carpet, I know that is what I really wanted. We picked out a beautiful patterned piece. Rodney came and measured the space and called a few days later with the "bad" news--we actually needed more carpet than we thought, and the "match" on the carpet meant there would be significant waste so the price was higher than we expected or had budgeted for. Rodney selected some other carpets for us to consider which would save several hundred dollars, but I did not like them nearly as much as my original choice. He did "work" on the numbers and was able to save us a couple of hundred by adjusting the pad we used and some other adjustments. Installation could not have gone better. There was a crew of 5 or 6 men who arrived right on time. They moved furniture out of each room as the carpet was laid and then placed everything back exactly where we wanted it. The carpet is beautiful! After installation we did have a small issue on the steps where the carpet was not "tucked in" fully. I contacted the store and they had the original installer stop over the next day. He was able to easily fix the issue with a "staple" which I was concerned with, but is totally invisible. I would highly recommend Hughes carpet to others looking for a quality carpeting product and installation.

2 weeks later, Rodney left me a voicemail and said he had a quote, but he didn't leave it on the voicemail. Toward the end of September, I stopped by the showroom. The woman at the front desk said Rodney wasn't there. She looked in the computer system for my quote; not there. She searched his desktop; not there. She took my name and number and said Rodney would get back to me. He never did. Around the first week in December, I stopped by again. Spoke with Rodney directly. He couldn't find the quote but he remembered me and measuring my house. I told him I was ready to install, he just needed to tell me how much it would cost. I never heard from him again.

Hughes did an excellent job insalling our hardwood flooring. Winthin days of meeting at the showroom we had a scheduled measuring of our rooms. Rodney Hughes is great to deal with, always following up promptly. His installer(s) were excellent. Always showed up promptly, were very polite, professional, and knowledgeable. They ran into a structural problem during installation, quickly found a solution, corrected the problem for us, and only added 1/2 day to the job. This was great as we did not have to call a contractor and work around/delay installation. They moved all the furniture and put it back in place. Cleaned up everyday. While the job took 3 1/2 days to complete, we are so thankfu that we did not bite on the local advertising of intall in one day as I would hate to think what would have happened when the structural problem was found. (and by the way - had made an appointment with 50 Floors and they never showed up - thank goodness!) Will definately use Hughes again. They were recommended by a neighbor and we highly recommend. And - they honored my Angie's list coupon!

The owner helped me select the right product for my job, came out and personally did the initial measurements, and had his installers out to complete the job. I was able to get the materials and labor from Hughes on sale which made the price was competitive with the big box stores. Everyone at Hughes has been very pleasant to work with.

The sales process was fine. Everyone was very friendly and accomodating.
