My experience in hiring Hollingsworth Roofing could not have been better. Every employee I encountered was great to work with. ALL of them were professional, polite, and dedicated to doing their best job. They communicated well about the roofing, and were thorough in answering any questions I had. They deserved the confidence that I had in them. Their estimator was easy to communicate with, and never pushy. Their office was also easy to communicate with. Their roofing crew worked as a fine-tuned machine; they had an amazing coordination and efficiency. I am completely pleased with my new roof, and in my experience of hiring Hollingsworth Roofing. They care about doing a quality roofing job, and they do business like it should be done.
Description of Work: They replaced the roof on my house. The old roof shingles had some storm damage and needed to be removed and replaced. Some plywood underlayment had to be replaced as well. They also installed a ridge-vent. There had been plenty of the other "storm-chaser" roofers soliciting for the job, but I had already decided to hire Hollingsworth Roofing based on researching Angie's List and because of other homeowners in my neighborhood who had used Hollingsworth and were satisfied with their work.

Hollingsworth was very communicative during the process and advised they were backed up 1 - 3 weeks but may be able to schedule sooner. They performed the inspection within three days of my initial communication. I received detailed communication on the repair of the shingle (there were actually 3 missing) and numerous nail pops had to be repaired. They clearly communicated the cost $289 assuming all work could be performed during the visit and there were no significant issues discovered. Work was performed appoximately 5 days later and I was very pleased with the work that was completed. There were quite a few nail pops to be repaired and the workmen were very dilligent on completing the repair. I received a followup call the next day confirming the work was completed and if I was satisified with the work. I was very impressed with the communication efforts of the Hollingsworth staff as there was no guessing on my part on where I stood with the repair.
Description of Work: I had a shingle come off of my roof during a rain storm. The age of my roof is approximately 12 years. Hollingworth was was called to replace the shingle and perform a general roof inspection as there have been numerous thunderstorms with occassional hail.

Great job. Would recommend and use again.
Description of Work: They came last summer to inspect and service my roof. They determined that I did have have sufficient damage from the hail storm to require roof replacement. I had had two areas in my home that I was having ceiling leaks when it rained hard with heavy wind. They determined that it was due to a few nails needing to be banged in and sealed. I've not had any damage since. HONEST, professional and they get the job done. Highly recommend.

I could not be more satisfied. I am very glad I did research on the other companies that had replaced roofs in our neighborhood. Hollingsworth was recommended to me by a contractor we had used. I also read reviews on Angie's list and decided they were the one in large part because Greg Hollingsworth is from Charlotte and has a permanent business location here. The salesman provided a detailed quote within a few days of contact. There was no high pressur The work was scheduled immediately upon submitting the contract. The salesman brought shingle samples and made recommendations. Ashley called the week before the work was scheduled to give me information and tips. The crew showed up every day very timely and worked long days to get the job done as quickly as possible. They draped the house and bushes around the house. No damage at all to our trim which my neighbors cannot say. They property was left impeccable. At the end of the job the salesman came back and did a 29 point inspection. The foreman Berto who has worked with Hollingsworth from inception and has years of roofing experience also gave me detailed information about what they did such as replacing plywood and also pointed out some issues with our wood. I recommend Hollingsworth without reservation.

Overall great experience. Their crew worked long and hard, past 5pm on most nights. Cleaned up very well afterwards. The new roof looks awesome. I had an old roof which had been patched many times and was leaking in more than one spot. THe new roof is well constructed and sealed and looks fantastic. They did a great job. Very trustworthy, dependable and easy to work with. After the roof was completed, i had my house painted a few months later. The painters disrupted the roofing around the chimney and it caused a leak. I called Hollingsworth and they came out and fixed it immediately, no questions asked. And even months later, and on something that was caused by someone else, they fixed it at no cost. That's great customer service and satisfaction guaranteed! I give Hollingsworth roofing my highest recommendation!

Unlike the storm chasers that come to your door and see if you will be dumb enough to let them call your insurance company and act as your roofing agent, Hollingsworth Roofing will come to your home inspect the roof without a sales person then mail or e-mail you a professional quote. Their quote was very close to the insurance estimate from the claims adjuster so there was no going back and forth with the insurance company on cost. They hand hammer the roof nails instead of using a nail gun which any quality roofer will do. The crew worked well together and they left the site perfectly clean. They scheduled a date within 9 days of my accepting their bid and luckily the weather cooperated all week so they were able to come as scheduled. The work was completed in a day which was a pleasant surprise. They did a quality job at a fair price. I gladly recommend this company.

When Jimmy came out to the house to give the estimate for the repairs he took his time and looked over the roof completely. He answered all my questions and took the time to explain how they would complete the repair. He told me that it would be about 2-4 weeks before they would be able to complete the repair due to their workload. Once the contract was signed the repair was scheduled and completed within 2 business days! Jimmy went out of his way to make sure the leak was taken care of promptly. On the day of the repair, the person doing the repair showed up on time, the work was completed in a timely manner and everything was cleaned up nicely. The leak has been repaired. Overall Hollingsworth's Roofing is very professional and does quality work.

I called Hollingsworth based on the reviews on Angies List. After a strong storm I noticed shingled lifted up and hanging off the dormer over the garage. It is a very high roofline and I could not see the full roof to know how much damage there was so I was expecting the worse. I called on a Friday and a represntive came out the following tuesday morning. When he first looked at it from the ground he said I was maybe looking at replacing the roof over the dormer. After going up on the roof and inspecting, he showed me pictures he took and said it looked worse from the street that it did up close. the rest of the roof was in good condition. The following day they emailed me an estimate just like he said they would. I called to schedule the work and they initially said for small jobs like mine they don't schedule the repair, they just fit them in around their other jobs and my roof would be added to list list to be completed within the next 2 weeks. After I explained that I worked mostly from home but wanted to arrange to work in the office on the day of repairs to avoid the noise, they told me they could get the work done the following week and would call me the day before to confirm. On the day the work was completed, I arrived home just as they were finishing up. the guy (I forget his name) was very polite a n explained to me all the work he did. The next day, I received a call from the office to see if I was satisfied and they send me a bill in the mail. I did not have to pay anything up front which was a surprise to me. We've had several rainy/stormy days since and I have had no issues. I would use Hollingsworth again because I feel they were very honest and accomodating to my requests. Nowadays it is hard to find a roofer to do such a small job. I feel Hollingsworth treats their customers the same no matter how big or small the repair is.

We chose Hollingswoth Roofing because of the high ratings on Angie?s List. Price was higher than other quotes but we wanted a quality job. Out of pocket costs were higher than other roofers. The job was completed as described by a crew who did a good job, cleaned up daily and were quiet and respectful. The new roof was completely acceptable. The problem arose when we tried to have a damaged window and stained stucco wall repaired. During the removal of the old roofing material there was an "avalanche" of shingles, nails and metal from the roof that impacted a window and a stucco wall. The window was scratched and the wall was stained with what appeared to be tar from shingles. Given this damage and the uncertainty of the cost to repair I withheld $600 from the final payment. (about 1.5% of the total cost). Initially Hollingsworth said repairs would be made and in fact the wall was cleaned and appeared OK. We waited about 2 weeks and called to see why we had heard nothing from them about the window. This prompted a call to us saying that they would get 2 estimates for the window replacement. We were at home for both estimates and heard 2 different stories about what was required to replace the window. One said it?s simple, the other wanted to make sure we had paint so that the they could repaint where any damage occurred during the replacement. As we did not have paint to match the existing we became concerned about the looks after trying to match it and what this would do to the cost of the replacement. Meanwhile the ?cleaned stucco? began to show white streaks. I mailed photos to Hollingsworth. Hollingsworth claimed they used only water and a rag to remove the tar. I found another small area that was missed and water would not even begin to remove it. The wall in question was part of a recent addition and I called the contractor who did the stucco work. The stucco is applied after being mixed with a coloring pigment and the only way it could be streaked is by using an acidic based cleaner. I sent a picture of the streaks to Hollingswoth but the only reply I received was ?we only used water and a rag?. During all of this I received several calls from a lady with a Hollingswoth surname demanding payment of the $600 I had withheld. I said that once I had paid you what guarantee did I have that the repairs would be done? The only answer I ever received was that Hollingsworth was a good company ?trust us?. My comment was I guess we were at an impasse because it was my opinion that the cost of $600 might well be exceeded. Her next response was the following email: Dear Mr. Per our discussion today, we have gotten two quotes to have repairs made to the scratched glass. Both are substantially less that the $600 you have arbitrarily chosen to retain. We offer two solutions: 1) remit the balance owed for the roof replacement. We will arrange to have the necessary repairs made. 2) continue to retain the amount that you have retained and have the repairs made at your own cost and by a contractor of your own choosing. Please let us know how you would like to proceed. Sincerely, Hollingsworth Roofing My Response: Sounds like a stalemate. I will pay the balance the moment the repair is complete. My next email: You have also failed to mention the recent discovery I discussed with you regarding the same incident when the window was damaged. When the "landslide" of old roofing material came down it not only scratched the window but also left tar marks on my stucco wall. I had previously advised your sales guy D? that your folks had successfully removed the tar. The tar was removed but in the last few days the cleaned areas have become much lighter. It seems as though whatever was used to remove the tar residuals was acidic enough to linger and discolor the stucco. Awaiting your response. My next message included a photo of the stucco damage: I suspect you will choose not to visit my home to see for yourself the residual damage so I thought a photograph was in order. Hollingsworth response: Thank you - again, though, all that was used was water. I have never heard back from Hollingsworth and In fact the ?ballpark? cost estimates I have received might well exceed $1,500 based on the contractor who did the stucco work. The issue is difficulty in matching the color for the repair. The stucco is embedded with the color prior to application. The contractor is adamant that something caustic was used to clean it. Needless to say I am very disappointment in the response I have received from them and regret choosing them. UPDATE The response they posted is not accurate and needs some clarification For example we never asked for the complete replacement of the window, in fact we do not even know what the proposed solution was from the two estimates except that one of the estimators asked if we had matching paint to repair any damage that might be caused. As to the $3,500 holdback we were accused of, this was because of the way my insurance company operates. The initially quoted price increased after the claim was approved and there was also a holdback involved from the insurance company and mortgage company pending inspection of the completed job. I sent them a check with the arbitrary $600 holdback within 3 or 4 days of receiving it from my insurance company. There was never an agreement that the $600 should be paid before the repairs were complete, that was their demand. Bottom line I will pay the $600 if they put in writing that the repairs will be completed by them. The position they have taken is pay up and trust us. We find this approach unacceptable. What guarantee do we have that they will repair the damage after they have our final payment? UPDATE We tried and were unsuccessful in our attempt to resolve our impasse with Hollingsworth Roofing. All that we wanted was for Hollingsworth Roofing to repair the window to the condition it was in prior to their crew causing the damage. They would not assume any responsibility for a satisfactory repair except to pay the window company. They insisted that they are a roofing company not a glass repair company and would not guarantee or warranty the work done by one of their subcontractors which left us with no options if the repair was not acceptable. Had we known that this was their position we would not have contracted with them and would urge caution before signing a contract with them. Make sure your contract clearly defines how any damage that they cause will be repaired.

Response from Hollingsworth Roofing Inc
We are grateful for our long good standing with Angie’s List. It has come as a result of our having worked diligently for nearly a decade to provide unmatched quality and value as well as the highest level of customer service on more than 5000 jobs. As hard as we work to strive for perfection in every job, accidents do happen. In removing the existing materials from Mr. (Member)’s roof, we did cause a scratch in one window pane. We admitted the unfortunate accident and assured Mr. (Member) that we would take care of the damage. We understood that the (Member)s were delighted with our work and comfortable that we would have the necessary repairs made. There was no mention of retainage or any other concerns. Two weeks after completing the roof replacement, Mr. (Member) remitted a check for partial payment. At that point he withheld more than $3,500.00 (closer to 10% of the total job), rather than the $600.00 he mentions in his complaint. When we sent a statement acknowledging receipt of his partial payment and advising him of the balance of his account, he responded that he was withholding the balance until the scratched window could be resolved. A telephone conversation followed in which it was agreed that any retainage was inappropriate as the roof was complete and we had every intention of having the window repaired. Another partial payment followed leaving a balance of $600.00. We had gotten two quotes from reputable companies who had contacted the original window manufacturer to provide the exact thermal glass pane. Both included advice from the contractors that, although Mr. (Member) had insisted that the entire window needed to be replaced, replacement was not necessary and the necessary repairs could be made for substantially less than $600.00. I called Mr. (Member) myself at this point so that I could assure him again that the repairs would be made as soon as possible, and that we would pay for them, but that this was outside the amount owed for the work already done. It was difficult to get my point across as Mr. (Member) was quite upset and repeatedly and in raised voice questioned my professionalism and my integrity. His concern seemed to stem from bad experiences with other contractors, but he was determined not to let Hollingsworth Roofing get away with whatever he had experienced in the past. I did absolutely indicate that Mr. (Member) could rely on our intentions to address the window repair. I believed then, and do continue to believe today, that we had shown good faith with Mr. (Member) while he, to the contrary, had withheld varying amounts of money already owed on a completed job. I believe that we were worthy of his trust and told him so. Never in all the dealings with Mr. (Member) had we indicated in any way that we would do anything other than have the damage repaired and pay for those repairs ourselves. It seemed unreasonable for Mr. (Member) to continue to retain $600.00. It was at this point the Mr. (Member) accused us of causing damage to the stucco. He had brought some marks to our attention while we were assessing the window pane damage and we did clean the area with a rag wet with water from Mr. (Member)’s own hose. In fact, the marks were not clearly a result of our work, but as we were on site and could do some clean up, we did. He has since decided that we used some kind of pigment-leaching chemical on his stucco. This is simply not true. The conversation grew increasingly loud and unproductive, so I simply wished Mr. (Member) a Merry Christmas and hung up the phone. I then emailed him offering two fair solutions. He seems now determined that not only must we pay to replace an entire window, but also re-stucco a portion of his house. As long as we have been in business, we have strived for 100% customer satisfaction. But, in our many years in business, we have also learned that some people cannot be satisfied unless they are getting something for nothing. We regret his disappointment. But no one other than Mr. (Member) believes that an entire window needs to be replaced to repair a scratch in a single pane. And there is absolutely no evidence of any kind that we have damaged his stucco in any way. We believe that we have been professional and responsive while Mr. (Member) has been abusive, condescending and delinquent. We appreciate that Angie’s List understands that there are two sides to every story. There are certainly two sides to this one.

From start to finish Hollingsworth gave us what we wanted.
Description of Work: Hollingsworth is a well respected company in the Charlotte, NC area. They replaced the roofs on many of our friends home. Being that my Wife and I wanted to use Hollingsworth Roofing Company over all of the other companies in town, we needed to be put on their schedule. So we waited about 6 weeks, and we are glad that we did so. Hollingsworth was on time and delivered a professional product. Any concerns we had were addressed within 20 minutes by Dave the job superintendent. They have a hard working crew that are clean cut and have clean and new looking trucks and equipment.

I had my roof replaced at the end of October, 2011 by Hollingsworth Roofing. I received five estimates, they were by far the most expensive of all the roofing companies. I picked them because they had good reviews on Angie's list and I thought they would be worth the extra money. They were not! They have a small crew, so the job took two days and part of a third day, which by comparison to the five houses on my cul-de-sac who had their roofs replaced this year, was long and slow. All of my neighbors had their roofs replaced by different companies with bigger crews, in one day. If they had done the job I thought they were going to do I wouldn't have had a problem with their price or their slow speed. The problem I have with this company is how sloppy, careless and unprofessional they are. They broke two downspouts off at the base of my house, they broke my gutter away from my roof, they broke my water heater exhaust pipe which extends through the roof, they installed what appears to be shredded and/or damaged shingles in one rather large area. There is scuffing and/or shredding from what looks like workmen's boots pushing off of the already installed new shingles while installing the next layer of shingles above. There are areas, where the starter shingles meet the gutters, which are really crooked and not lined up with the shingles directly over them. They said they were going to clean my gutters after they completed the job. My gutters were spotless before they came and they were full of debris after they left. I found all sorts of debris including a water bottle that had been jammed in my gutter along with lots of nails and chunks of shingles. Leaving a water bottle jammed in my gutter really bothered me. It didn't accidentally roll in there either, because it had to be yanked out with some force to remove it. I found this to be incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. The bottom corners of a lot of shingles are bent up, pointing towards the sky, as if while dragging themselves up the roof, while installing the shingles above, they were snagging and bending the corners up, making a crease, like a damaged baseball card. There already appears to be nails that are popping up, as the shingles are raised quite a bit in certain areas. They did come out two or three times to fix the downspouts and the gutters, they removed the water bottle, they blew the debris from the gutters, they paid for the water heater exhaust pipe to be repaired, they offered to replace the shredded, damaged shingles, but I'm afraid of them doing even more damage if they come out again, plus that would mean removing an entire section of the roof and re-doing it all over again. No thank you! The workers weren't even decent enough or professional enough to tell me all the things they broke along the way on my house. I had to find out everything on my own, and I only spot checked the work. I'm afraid of what I'm going to find if I take a closer look at what's been done. Also, the owner basically called me a liar when I told him of all the issues, he stated that he's not so sure that everything wasn't already broken before he and his crew got here. My house is nine years old, NOTHING was broken before they got here! I haven't called them about the shingles with the bent up/broken corners or the nails popping up yet because I'm tired of calling them and having them come out here. I'm frustrated because I feel that everything should have been done right the first time. That's why I was willing to go with the most expensive roofing company...to avoid all of this hassle. The company says the shingles will settle and lay flat once they've been in the sun for six months or so, but these bent up/broken corners are not going to lay flat no matter how much sun they get. Hiring Hollingsworth Roofing was a very big mistake. I'm still disgusted, disappointed and stressed out by this whole experience. I regret hire them. I have more confidence in my old, hail damaged roof than I have in this new roof. If I could give Hollingsworth Roofing an F minus I would! Homeowners response to the companies response: We never, ever spoke about my gutters or downspouts before or during the roof installation. They were long gone by time I took a closer look at the job they did and noticed the broken gutter, downspouts and all the other issues. They didn't fix them out of the kindness of their hearts, they fixed them because they broke them. I was not looking for a "free" roof. If I wanted a "free" roof I would have hired one of the five roofing companies who offered me a much lower price. I went with the most expensive company because I thought that would guarantee me the best job possible. As you can tell from my review, I was mistaken. Paying the highest price doesn't guarantee a quality job. My neighbors have all told me that they did not go with a "storm-chaser" company, they all went with reputable roofing companies, some of which were found on Angie's list. I have no ax to grind, nothing to gain from writing this review. I'm just trying to be a good Angie's list member and share the experience that I had with this company, the way every other Angie's list member does. That's what this site is all about. My review is 100 percent honest and accurate.

Response from Hollingsworth Roofing Inc
Although we certainly regret the HO’s disappointment, we believe that we have made every effort to satisfy him as well as to be clear, fair and reasonable throughout the entire process. We provided a clear, explanatory bid to the HO up-front and prior to his contracting us to do the work. We were very candid about scheduling and how long it would take to complete the job. We responded to each of the HO’s concerns immediately and in person. A water bottle was inadvertently left in the HO’s gutter. This was neither malicious, nor meant in any way to show disrespect – it was accidental and remedied immediately upon its being brought to our attention. We did not break the HO’s gutters or downspouts. On the contrary, before the work began we noted that repairs needed to be made, and, when the roof was complete, we re-secured them as a courtesy and at no additional charge. The customer did bring a complaint about the gutter repairs to our attention while the roofing was in progress. However, as with each and every job we do, once the roof was complete, we re-secured and cleaned the gutters – including the removal of the empty water bottle. The HO had some HVAC work done post roof replacement and we came out and re-sealed the gas stacks as a courtesy and at no additional charge. Although we did not see any evidence that we had damaged the water heater, we did believe it was possible and so we did, as a gesture of good faith, pay the invoice we received from the HO’s HVAC contractor to replace a broken elbow. We discovered some scuffed shingles while doing our post-job assessment which we had every intention of addressing. Unfortunately, the HO has declined to allow this. There are no shredded or otherwise damaged shingles on the roof. It is a fact well-established in this industry that it sometimes takes a while for the shingles to seal down and lay flat. We have returned to this HO’s house several times since we completed the work. The shingles are laying flat and all is as it ought to be. This HO has certainly been quite vocal about his disappointment, but what he has failed to mention is that he also expressed his happiness and satisfaction with the job and more than once – both to the office admin as well as to the company owner. We believe this disappointment mostly stems from HO’s regret that he had to pay anything at all for his new roof – that he did not, as some of his neighbors chose to, contract with a “storm-chaser” to do the work for the amount his insurance company would give him for his hail-damaged roof as well as assume his deductible. He has said as much. We believe that if, after the fact, we had been willing to discount this job the $ 597 the HO had to pay out-of-pocket for his $ 10,000 roof, we would not be continuing to have this conversation. We make no apologies for our pricing – we provide a quality job for a fair price. Not only that, though. We provide our bids up-front and free of charge to everyone, and each individual gets to make his or her own choices with their homes and with their money. We have installed this HO’s roof, as we do every roof, as if it were our own and per the shingle manufacturer’s specifications. Not only will we stand behind our work, but, as the HO knows, we have registered a SystemPlus warranty through GAF which covers the entire roof system. We cannot grade our customers, and that is sometimes a good thing. We believe that our nine-year record of SuperService Awards and consistently well above average reports speak volumes to the kind of customer service, job quality and general integrity that we practice every day. We believe that we have made every reasonable effort to satisfy this customer and are sorry that it appears that it cannot be done.

The gentleman was on time, very professional, pleasant, answered all my questions. I was impressed with the company and committment to doing excellent work. Unfortunately, they were not available to do the work for 3 months so I went with another company.

I contacted Hollingsworth who set up a time for a review and estimate. They showed up on time. They walked me through the options, noting that my roof is near the end of its life expentancy without being pushy, and prepared a professionaly estimate. When I contacted them to set up the work, they responded that it would be 6-8 weeks before it would be scheduled, which concerned me but I went ahead with them. The work was then done the next week. Probably because it was a smaller job but nonetheless I would have preferred a more accurate estimate of scheduling. Overall I had a good experience.
Description of Work: Fixed holes in the flange of my roof.

After roofing our house this summer, we realized we had forgotten to get a roof exhaust fan moved. Although we had talked to them about it earlier, everyone forgot, including us. Hollingsworth came back and out and moved the fan for us at no charge. It was "above and beyond" service, we thought.
Description of Work: Moved a roof exhaust fan, patched and re-roofed area from where it was moved.
