The project team completed the project in about a week's work. The project manager, Hunter, carefully explained to us everything that they were doing. Even though the duct work turned out to be more extensive than originally thought, Energy Tight kept to the original bid price. They did a very good job of cleaning up. The next week, Mitchell came back and essentially repeated the assessment, but even without seeing the report yet we can feel a difference in the house, noticeable reduction in the time the furnace runs, the house even seems a little quieter. I look forward to seeing the results in our energy bills.
Description of Work: I bought the $149 Energy Audit special deal. Mitchell came out and spent about 4 hours doing the initial assessment -- very professional and knowledgeable. He returned to present the findings and we agreed on a long list of changes, including adding more blown-in insulation in the attic, air sealing the house, re-doing substandard ductwork and sealing all ducts with mastic (not tape), adding an exhaust fan in a bathroom, wrapping the water heater, and doing substantial additional insulating between finished and unfinished basement areas.

We had a big deal on them. I spent whatever the big deal price was, I think it was $200 and it was lesser than what it would have cost otherwise. They did not have the equipment and some of their equipment was not working properly. I also felt like the person doing the assessment was a little new and felt that it would be nice to have someone experienced doing the assessment. The prices they were charging seemed a little high. They were pretty quick in coming out. They were pretty punctual too. He was professional but just lacked a little experience.

Thank you for your feedback! I am so sorry you felt the energy consultant was less experienced than what you anticipated. All of our energy consultants are BPI certified, envelope professionals and building anaylst. They have been working with us since November 2010. Because of your feedback we now test all equipment regularly, to make sure everything is working properly. We would never want to arrive with equipment not working properly. Again, thank you for your feedback. It is because of feedback that we can correct our errors, and strive to be the company we have a vision for.

I wasn't warned ahead of time that when they insulated the crawl space, not only would the AC have to be shut off, but the heat turned on for a while. When they were here and informed me of that, I asked that the crawlspace portion of the job be postponed for a more moderate day as temps of 100 were forecast and I work from home. They refused. They did not perform all of the work they were supposed to initially and left the attic in such a mess that I could barely get up there. When I called and complained, they did come back and remedy that promptly.

I have a comlete energy assessment of my home and a list of things to do to fix all my issues wiith the home. I have scheduled them to come and fix the bonus room and they will be here today. Brandon was very courteous and very thorough and even though the work they do is somewhat difficult to explain he was walked me through it and I was able to understand the benefits!
Description of Work: Brandon came to do a whole house energy audit. It was a very thorough audit which basically laid out where all my air leak issues were in whole house from attic all the way to crawl space. He then came back a couple days later to give me a comprehensive report with pictures, graphs and money saving ideas. My main issue was getting my bonus space above my garage liveable. Brandon put together a whole house estimate as well as a package to fix the bonus room. Based on mu budget I wanted to start on bonus room first and then eventually work on other areas of the house to make it more energy efficient!

Very thorough evaluation, They went through the house, from top to bottom, using equipment to show me printouts of energy loss through inadequate insulation at the doors, windows, ceiling, attic. They checked the heating system as well as the air conditioning. They left me a packet of information that I can use to improve the energy efficiency in my home, including how long it would take to recoup my investment in more insulation around doors, in the attic, etc. The agent was friendly, courteous, and thorough.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our customers letting us know what areas we can improve on. We try very hard to price the audit as competitive as possible, and we normally discount the audit from the estimated work you are presented. Most of the time it appears on the agreement of the work to be complete- if you choose Energy TIght to do the retrofit work of your home. We will try to communicate this better with homeowners in the future. Again, thank you for your feedback.

Stephanie was able to make my initial appointment very quickly, and the follow-up was soon after. Once we agreed on the proposal, the work started very quickly. Over the course of three days they pulled up attic flooring, blew in insulation and relaid the floor, followed by additional insulation blown aroudn the attic perimeters; insulated the area aroudn the openign of attic pull down stairs; insutlated a laundry room wall; installed an air return in a closet; replaced weather stripping. There were some minor things which I believe come with any job of this type, but Brandon, my proejct manager, was very responsive and addressed everything to my satisfaction. He even made the suggestion that I had enough space over my garage to install pull down stairs there, and installed them for me after we agreed on what I thought was a more than fair price. I felt an immediate difference after they completed their work and look forward to seeing the reults in my utility bills. I will definitley use Energy Tight again and have already recommended them to someone.
Description of Work: I became acquainted with this company through a Big Deal offer. I'd wanted to have the overall energy efficiency of my home checked for a while - was aware of at least two problem areas. So I was pleased to have it come up as a big deal. They came out and performed a detailed energy review, and returned a couple of days later with a detailed report and a proposal that provided three different options in terms of increased energy efficiney. I chose the option providing the highest efficiency.

Energy Tight did everything they promised. They were punctual and polite. They cleaned up after themselves. They were a little bit like bulls in a china shop, though. During insulating the attic, they knocked out a switch on my air conditioner, disabling the air conditioning system. That cost me $150 to have fixed. I also had a small leak in the ceiling of one of the bedrooms because they had knocked a pipe for the furnace out of its pan and it was now draining on the attic floor. My electrician fixed that while putting up a ceiling fan. However, given that they need to be more careful, I am sure what they did will help with the energy bills. I have never spent a winter here before, so I have no bills to compare and I won't know about air conditioning until next summer.
Description of Work: I was experiencing sky high energy bills in the house I had just moved into in July. The electrical bill was really steep for only two people. I decided to have an energy audit done and found Energy Tight on Angie's List. I was very impressed with the tests they conducted. They used thermal cameras and showed me all the places where are was leaking into the house. They hooked up a huge blower to the front door and sucked the air out of the house. Then they walked me around to feel where the warm air was rushing into the house to replace the air being forced out. Wow! My pull down attic stair space was a major culprit and my thermostat was in the same hallway, so my air conditioner was running more. Jay prepared a thorough report for me, making recommendations as to what I should do to make the house more energy efficient. He helped me prioritize the problems. We selected things that would provide the most bang for the buck - additional insulation in the attic, an attic tent, fixing a bathroom fan that was not vented correctly. There was no hard sell. Jay also recommended that I have my crawl space encapsulated because, with the summer's high humidity, it was very wet down there. He recommended a company for me to speak with, since Energy Tight does not encapsulate crawl spaces. After the work was done, they conducted more tests and gave me a final report, reflecting the new energy efficiency in the house.

Matt was very professional, came on time, removed his shoes when entering the house, and was incredibly patient with me following him around asking him questions for almost the entire time. He also allowed me to use a thermographic imaging camera to see for myself where I was losing the most energy (through a fireplace, exterior outlets, a crack in my kitchen ceiling to the attic, and a window that I thought was sealed). He came back on another day (and was very accommodating when I had to cancel our originally scheduled meeting) and provided me with a report and a list of recommendations. Although I have not had a chance to implement most of the recommendations, I feel assured that when I do, it will make a huge difference in both my energy costs and my comfort level. Just the few small changes I made immediately after the audit made a considerable difference in the drafts in my home. I would highly recommend Green Home.

Excellent communication. Came out for the testing on a Saturday and for the final review on a Sunday which I greatly appreciated due to my complex work week schedule. I had been wanting a blower door test for some time which was an interesting process. Matt let me wander around the house with the thermal camera while he was doing his thing which was really fun and revealing. I immediately implemented 3 suggestions - fireplace flue plug, cover for whole house fan vents, and covers over receptacles in exterior walls to reduce air infiltration. This last item was really impressive on the thermal camera. Matt made a number of suggestions for decreasing heat loss from the master bedroom. He also gave great advice about waiting for the possible passage of the "Cash for Caulkers" legislation and explained to me how it would work. So right now I'm waiting on that. I have gotten one bid for this work and Matt is working on a bid also One thing I very much appreciated was that there was no "package sell". In fact, Matt was so low key about his company being able to do the work that he didn't even mention it until the very end of the process (after the second meet). Based on my own research I didn't feel he was advising silly or low-yield corrections (attic things like sealing fans and light vents and top plates, a little more insulation). I believe you can trust him to do a thorough analysis, give you sensible recommendations, and not "pad" the project if you hire him to do the remediation.
Description of Work: Energy efficient audit including blower door test; duct leakage test; analysis of appliance energy usage including research into my older appliances; lifestyle and living habits, etc. He asked for a breakdown of all utility bills by month (I had it in therms, gallons, and KWH). Provided detailed final summary with list of "to do" items to improve house performance. My specific concern was improving the comfort of the master bedroom and I got some helpful ideas that I'm implementing now.

Very well. The only two things preventing me from putting straight A's were: it took us several weeks to receive the written report (e-mail and other issues). Also, the report indicated that we should remove a piece of hard insulation that was very close to our gas water heater--the insulation was essentially kerosene in a solid form. I think the employee should have alerted us to this right away and offered to remove it--it seems odd to leave this for a written report when it's such a quick fix to a potentially very dangerous situation. Still, I would recommend this company in a heartbeat. Very valuable information--saved us from spending upwards of $30,000 on a full window replacement that wouldn't have solved the problems wer'e having.
Description of Work: A Green Home employee came to our house (about 3000 sq ft, built 1988) and spent between 4 and 5 hours looking for leaks and areas of heat loss. A few weeks later, we received a report detailing the opportunities we have to improve our home's energy use. The report included a page-by-page explanation of each opportunity and included photos of our house that illustrated the main points. After we received the report, the owner met with my husband and provided several low-cost suggestions of ways to improve our home's efficiency; he also helped us prioritize which areas to tackle first--which will give us the biggest bank for our buck. Great service; they don't sell or install installation or other solutions, so you know you're getting an unbiased opinion.

Response from Energy Tight LLC
Thank you for your response. We are always looking to improve Energy Tight, and it is through feedback like this that we are able to become the company we strive to be. Thanks to this feedback we now have several things in place. When we schedule an energy assessment with a customer, we immediately try to schedule the follow up appointment with the customer, for no more than 3-7 days out. This requires us to have the report complete, including the thermal images uploaded into the report. The report is discussed at the follow up appointment and the detailed report is given to the customer. We have continuous safety meetings with our Safety & Environmental Manager regarding what actions all Energy-Tight employees are required to follow. If there is any sign of a dangerous situation, the employee is to act immediately, by notifying the homeowner. Safety is very important to us, which is why we do Carbon Monoxide testing- as standard with all home energy assessments. Again, thank you so much for this feedback!

I was able to quickly make an appt and have Matt and team conduct the audit. His company even offered a free coupon to have an air quality inspection conducted as part of the service. The audit process was simple and quick. Very informative-- Matt allowed me to walk around with him as he performed the audit. I asked a ton of questions, peeked my head into spots I'd never even seen in my house and learned a lot about what we were doing well and what improvements we could make. The audit was extremely thorough and identified several improvements for us. Matt even brought to my attention other issues (non-energy... like a leaky toilet and wet foundation) that I wasn't aware of, but could have caused significant trouble if unattended! All his recs were categorized in high-medium-low buckets to offer a guide as to what would yield the most bang for the buck and was the most urgent. Very helpful way to prioritize. The audit actually saved us a lot of money because we were prepared to weatherstrip and insulate to improve the comfort of our home... totally inappropriate for the actual issues we were facing! Thanks Matt!

Matt and his team did a great job and were very professional throughout the entire experience. Matt was very responsive and really worked with my schedule not only on the day of the inspection/audit but also at the time of report delivery, which we reviewed face-to-face. The audit was very thorough, and the final report was well organized, thoughtful and contained plenty of suggestions on how to improve not only home energy efficiency but also overall comfort and air quality. Some of the suggestions/remedies were probably obvious with the benefit of hindsight, but others were definitely not anticipated and, in my mind, provide the real value of the service. I would highly recommend Green Home LLC and will very likely use them again for a follow up audit after implementation of the plan they have put together.
Description of Work: A comprehensive home energy audit on our 1928 home was performed which included but was not limited to: review of energy bills, energy use questionnaire, home inspection including attic and crawlspace, HVAC inspection, infrared thermography, and blower door test. A comprehensive report was then generated with hard and electronic copies provided.

We were very impressed with Matt professionalism. He was punctual, easy to talk too, and answered all of our questions. He was able to identify several short comings with our homes energy usage and insulation. The final report was well made with several levels of suggestions for improvements ranging from basic do it yourself type ideas to more expensive solutions that may require professional help. Matt was willing to recommend various other people to help implement his suggestions but there was no sales pressure for additional work to be done. Also included in the audit is a retest so that you can check that your improvements have actually made a difference to the home. Overall we were very satisfied with Matt's work and would not hesitate to recommend him to others. NOTE: Also included with the energy audit is a free HVAC inspection and home air quality test that is done by another company. We have that scheduled for next week.
Description of Work: Matt, the owner of Greenhome, came out and did a home energy audit of our ~3500sf home. It probably took between 3 - 4 hours for all the tests and inspections. During that time he did several types of home blower tests looking for air leaks. He also used an infrared camera to look at energy leaking in the walls/floors/ceilings and a full inspection of our attic and crawl space.

It went exactly as promised. We're now proceeding with many of his suggestions. I really like the fact that Green Home does not sell installation or supplies. It just sells the audit. The company has no incentive other than providing a useful diagnostic service, which is exactly what Coopman and his company did.
Description of Work: Green Home's Matt Coopman was hired to perform an energy audit on our 2900 sq. ft. home. He spent between two and three hours with us providing tips on how we could immediately cut our energy costs. Using a blower temporarily installed in the front doorway, he measured the amount of energy loss occurring at various points in our home, ceilings, highhat light fixtures. He employed a thermal heat sensing device to detect energy loss hot spots. He also inspected the crawl space and examined our heating an cooling system, as well as our electric water heaters. He checked all the bathrooms for inefficient water faucets etc. He also provided great tips on how I might cool off my very hot garage by, for example, insulating the inside of the garage door which bakes in the afternoon sun. He returned a few days later to present and thoroughly explain a detailed photo illustrated report he had prepared for how we could cut our energy bills. He even offered at no cost to meet with our handy man to explain the suggestions to him.

He came back on two more occasions to complete the work we agreed upon and he the work was professional.
