I woke up on Thursday morning and my air conditioning was not working. It's summer and hot. I called Charlotte Comfort Systems at 7:00 and got the answering service. The person who took the message was calm, polite and accurate. She assured me I would hear from them after they opened at 8 AM. I was pleasantly surprised when I heard from Charlotte Comfort System before 8! Michelle called me and again, she was pleasant and customer service focused. She let me know that a technician would be out to check my AC that afternoon. Bob arrived around 2:00. He was pleasant and very informative about what was going on with the AC. He was also thorough, clean and neat. Bob determined what the problem was. They had to order a part. We were going into a holiday weekend and Bob let me know that the part might not be in in time for the AC to be repaired before Monday. He was super apologetic and assured me he would do everything possible to get the part ordered and someone back out to install it either Friday or Saturday. After Bob left, Michelle called me back to check on me and let me know that if the part came in, she would send a technician out on an after-hours call to install it. She wanted to make sure I would be home on Friday night. On Friday, Michelle called me late morning to let me know that they had the part and a technician would be arriving in the next 30 minutes. He arrived in a timely manner and 15 minutes later I had air conditioning. I cannot commend Charlotte Comfort systems enough. They were so professional, helpful, empathetic to my situation, and timely. I would highly recommend them.

They didn't find anything wrong with the AC and they tuned up the heating system (again..which I had already paid for with the annual service contract). Yet the officer manager, AKA Owners wife, insisted that I had to pay for them to look at the AC. And she was rude and unprofessional. Terrible customer service. We will not be using them again.
Description of Work: Charlotte Comfort Systems installed solar panels and an entirely new AC system for both floors of our house 3 years ago. At the end of last summer our AC system wasn't cooling the downstairs. I called at the same time as the fall heating tune up (which I had already paid for with the service contract) and asked if they could also take a look at the AC (Keep in mind they installed the systems for over $10k less than 3 years ago) and she wanted to charge me for the service call. They were already going to be at my house for the heating annual service.

We are sorry that this customer is unhappy with our policies, when we do routine maintenance it is for properly functioning systems. If the unit is not working we will have to send a service technician not the maintenance technicians that are less experienced, plus we cannot tune-up the unit if it is not working properly. It will need to repaired first, or resulting in a loss of revenue for us. Routine maintenance is just that, not troubleshooting or repairs

My sales rep, Don, did an excellent job in reviewing all of my existing system to determine my needs, sizing a new system and presenting a price proposal. In addition, Don kept me from making a mistake using another AC contractor that was quoting a little larger system but not using the correct size suction return, only cleaning the existing one which was too small for the new system. The cost of the new suction would have been at least another $500. Ed and Marcus installed the system and I cannot say enough good things about the quality and neatness of their work. Definitely contact if you are needing AC installation!

They were great. I was recommended to them by a friend. What I like is that they are the friendliest people to work with and easy to schedule with as well. The technicians are very clean and wear shoe covers in my home. I do like their maintenance agreement because it includes the regular service and you also get a discount on parts. I see no room for improvement on their service.
Description of Work: They put in an outside A/C unit for my garage in the past. More recently, I had them put in a new furnace and A/C unit. They also do our annual maintenance.

The representative was great. He was extremely patient while explaining the pros and cons of the different units they offer. He was available for questions while we were still researching from other companies. The techs who installed the unit were patient with us also. They were very friendly and did a great job. I would definitely recommend Charlotte Comfort Systems.

We got estimates from 3 companies and Charlotte Comfort systems just gave me the most confidence. Their price was not the lowest but about $3,000 below the highest quote. On top of that we felt we were getting the right system for our needs and a warranty that would protect us far into the future. Don came out 2 times. The second time he explained his proposal and our options in good detail. They were able to install the new unit within 2 days. Their men came out on a 100 degree day and worked in crazy hot conditions. They did a great job and all has worked as described. I would highly recommend for anyone needing HVAC work to talk to them and see for yourself.

The service man was punctual and got right to work, starting upstairs. This company is always punctual. I like the fact that they put paper booties over their shoes so they don't track mud and dirt into the house. Very professional. Everything checked out fine. Both units were low on Freon. The service person discussed the cost before filling the systems. The price of Freon is outrageous, and the price varies from company to company. It seemed rather high to me @ $149 for the 1st lb, but I don't have many comparisons. I realize the quantities are limited by government quotas. They never clean the outdoor units, unlike many other companies that do wash down the units. He said they looked clean. I do believe this company is trust worthy, and they don't try to sell you additional products / services. I have used Charlotte Comfort Systems for about 3 years now. Part 2 - Charlotte Comfort Systems installed two new AC units at our house. They completed the job in 1 day, as they had estimated. They showed up ready to work and on time. They were neat and clean in both removing the old units and replacing the new ones. Again, they used plactic boots on thier shoes so not to track dirt into the house. Their work passed the city inspection (which was scheduled the following week). They didn't leave any building trash behind after completing the job. The new ACs work great. We have had no issues with the new units, or any need for follow up service. They did the job right the 1st time. Completely satisfied. Part 3 - I needed a part replaced on my gas heating system. They gave an estimate for the repair of approx $570. This price was in addition to the $80 service call to assess what was needed. The actual OEM part could be purchased from a HVAC supplier for $200, and it took about 15 minutes to install. Once the cover was removed, there were four screws and two clamps to remove. Very easy to install. Now I really question their pricing. I'm fine with a company making a reasonable profit, but this seems like price gouging to me. I did not have this company do this repair due to their pricing.
Description of Work: Annual spring maintenance check-up service on my two AC units. Checked the critical system functions and Freon level. The price includes the annual maintenance contract for two units, and includes the fall heating checkup. Part 2 - We had both air conditioners replaced by Charlotte Comfort Systems. Part 3 - I needed a part replaced on my gas heating system.

They came and they gave us an estimate which we thought was fair since it was both. They have a 20 year warranty, which is good. They told us exactly what day they were coming and that only took one day. We have had no issues at all with neither the furnace, nor the air conditioning system, nor with the control. My daughter used them too. My husband is an engineer and he thought it was an excellent price. I would use them again.

I placed a service call as my unit was struggling to produce air cool enough during hot days. The first call resulted in a $90 bill to be told that the unit was frozen (despite having been told that if I turned it off a service call later in the day). The second bill was for $40 for the return trip. The final bill was for $880 for labor related to a part that was covered under warranty. I have since checked around and been given quotes more than $200 less for the same labor (that seemed to only take a couple of hours to install). As usual, comparison shopping is difficult when you are without air, and I feel like i was taken. I would recommend starting with a different company.

Response from Charlotte Comfort Systems Inc
We did not install this HVAC system, when we went out for the initial service call we told the homeowner to make sure that his system was off for atleast 4 hours to allow the frozen coil to thaw. When we arrived the system was still running and the indoor evaporator coil was a block of ice, we collected our $89.95 service fee and scheduled a return visit for the following day with a reduced fee of $40.00. Upon returning we diagnosed that the TXV (thermal expansion valve) had failed and needed to be replaced, the part was covered under warranty from Lennox. We quoted a repair cost of $880.00 which was accepted by the homeowner, we returned the following day and in 2.5 hours we replaced the part. This fee is lower than the industry average and includes us; picking up the replacement part, installation, filing the warranty claim (where we buy the part, fill out the required warranty paperwork and eventually get a credit back from Lennox, this requires office oversight) plus returning the failed part to Lennox, plus we warrant our repair for 12 months. It is very frustrating to quote a repair and perform said repair in a timely and professional manner at an agreed upon price and still get a negative review.

Charlotte Comfort Systems had the most reasonable price of the 4 companies we contacted. They answered our questions and explained the options that they had to offer. The installation crew was efficient and on time and did a neat job. Their sales representative was helpful and provided necessary documentation and forms for rebates, guarantees, warranty, and tax credit.

We are very pleased with their work and responsiveness. They were able to schedule installation 2 days after we accepted the estimate and it took 2 and a half days to completely install the system. The new system is wonderful - it keeps the house perfectly conditioned and it is not nearly as loud (indoor and outdoor) as the system it replaced. We are very please because the Lennox system had a $700 rebate which we already received and the tax credit of $1,500 will be returned to us at tax time, making the total investment only $8,565. The only problem we experienced, which may be significant, is that the installers installed the 2 ton outdoor unit connected to the upstairs system, and the 2.5 ton outdoor unit connected to the downstairs system. After confirming this with them on the phone they had a guy out the next day to swap the two outdoor units which took about 5 hours. We dealt with Don Ferguson on the phone while on vacation and he was a pleasure to do business with. He actually showed up the day they finished the system (we returned home from vacation on the night before they were finishing up) to make sure that we were happy and that everything was being done properly. There was a little insulation on the floor below the attic opening when they left, and we had to fix a hole in the wall where they moved a thermostat to the other side of the wall (original thermostat location was terrible - in a room under a vent, now in hall under return) but a vacuum and some putty and paint easily fixed these issues, and we knew about the hole beforehand. The inspector came out two days after the completion and the system passed with no problems or surprises.
Description of Work: The day before we left for an 8 day vacation our upstairs AC unit iced over. We defrosted it and had my mother in-law call another vendor which we used in the past to come out the next day to add freon. We had done this for 4 years in a row as there was a slow leak in the coil. The other vendor noted that the outdoor unit fan motor was broken, so while overseas we had a talk with him via Skype (love it!) and he gave us a quote for the repair which was outrageous. Knowing the system was on its way out and that there is a tax credit available this year decided to bite the bullet and replace both upstais and downstairs systems as they were 14 years old - we called 4 other vendors on Angie's list, as well as Charlotte Comfort Systems (which was recommended by a family member). 2 of the other vendors, in addition to Charlotte Comfort Systems, were prompt in returning calls but we eventually received only 3 estimates: Charlotte Comfort Systems, the original vendor's, and 1 of the Angie's list vendors. We had lengthy discussions with all of the vendors and had various revisions made because of cost and desired features. We ended up having the requirement of obtaining the tax credit, dual-fuel (heat pump and furnace instead of just furnace), and reliable equipment from a reputable manufacturer. The estimates ranged from $10,765 all the way to $18,500 and we decided to move forward with Charlotte Comfort Systems because of the price, the attention we were given in discussions, the logical nature of the their discussions (the other contractors were boasting their ratings history, their company size, their reason for using cheaper/older equipment while CCS was discussing actual reasons for choosing different options and technologies), and the recommendation of the family member. The estimate which we ended up accepting from CCS was for a 2 ton system for downstairs and a 2.5 ton system for upstairs. Both systems are Lennox dual fuel with programmable thermostats from Honeywell (downstairs is a wireless thermostat because of the difficulty in wiring for the new systems). They re-used all of the existing duct work and did some minor additions to the wiring, supports, and drains to bring everything up to code.

We were having problem with a 2000 model Lennox a/c unit starting back in 2006. I had called another company. The first serviceman made a reasonable repair, so I took a service contract. In April 2007, the a/c again quit working and a control module on the furnace was replaced. In June 2007, the unit was not cooling, they added 1 lb of freon. In June 2008, during the spring maintenance, more freon had to be added. This was a different repairmen, and told me that I probably needed a new unit and he could make me a "good deal". Within a month, I had to call them back. Another repairmen came and explained that for about 10 years Lennox had made "junk", but he could replace the unit at a good price. Also a leak check would cost about $600. It was at this time I researched Lennox dealers in the area, calling several dealers. Final decision was Charlotte Comfort Systems. For one thing, the repairmen do not work on commission. They make repairs, not sales. I was able to get the leak check for $158. When I called back and asked for new installation estimates, Glen came out and presented a variety of options along with estimates. There was no high pressure sales. We later chose a unit and Glen gave us an installation date. Vernon and Anthony arrived on the appointed day, and replaced both the furnace and a/c unit that day. They were very careful in the house, and left everything as clean as when they arrived. Scott Shelton followed up to make sure everything went okay and was working to my satisfaction. I was very pleased with all interface I had with the employees of Charlotte Comfort System.
Description of Work: Charlotte Comfort Systems verified that my upstairs a/c unit was out of freon, and performed a leak search. There was a serious leak at the evaporator coils. They installed a new Lennox 2 stage 16 SEER AC and 2 Stage Furnace.

Do not use them! They were horrible, ya know they were okay while negotiating. When they came out and did the first bit of work and when we tried to schedule more work they didn't show up for three weeks, we called and they claimed we had never called. We quoted the new HVAC system to the member's on March 31, 2008 as part of an addition they were having put on their home. They commited to us on April 25, 2008 and we started the installaion on April 30, 2008. We could not complete the installation because of the construction that was in progress, we gave the homeowner and contractor notice that the completion would happen during our busy season in May and that we would need 2 weeks notice to schedule the completion. We added (2) supply ducts and vented the bathroom exhaust fan into the addition. We got a call in mid May stating that they were ready for us to complete the addition, they wanted us out there immediately. We take care of our customers and work diligently to maintain our reputation, but we were fully booked; not given two weeks notice, plus they had functioning air conditionng. We put them on our calendar for the next available date and completed the work.

I called in response to an ad where they state they can eliminate hot spots in your house. The owner, Scot Shelton indicated there would be no charge. He arrived with a technician. The technician discovered that the downstairs unit had iced over. They turned the unit off and indicated that they would send a technician out the next day. The second technician put in some freon, indicated that the coil was leaking and that it was impossible to find a replacement. He then submitted a bill for a service call ($89),a search for a leak($134), Deicing( which occurred naturally overnight($25) and Freon ($47 & $34). He then wrote that I refused a repair (that he had told me was impossible. This left me out $329 and no remedy to my problem. My conclusion THIS IS A NICKLE AND DIME OUTFIT THAT OFFERS NO REMEDIES BUT IS SATISFIED WITH BUILDING PADDED REPAIR BILLS. It turns out that there was a replacement part available for $500 ($1200 less than the bill estimated).

The member called us for a duct system evaluation- which were were going to perform free of charge. When we arrived at his home the air conditioning evaporator coil in the crawlspace was a huge block of ice and not allowing air flow into the duct system. Explaining that we were unable to check air flow because of his issue, he requested a service call and understood that there is an $89.00 diagnostic fee. His system was low on refrigerant and his filter was clogged, we explained that his system had a leak and needed refrigerant to get the system back up and running. I do not know what we could have done differently, all fee's were agreed upon; he declined the duct system analysis after his system was back up and operating properly. That very likely was the problem all along.

THESE GUYS WORKED THREE SOLID DAYS BASICALLY WITHOUT STOPPING EXCEPT FOR LUNCH. AFTER INSTALLATION: TAKES TOO LONG TO RESOLVE ISSUES -- TWO MAJOR ISSUES: DAMPERS LEFT OFF SYSTEM AND HOLE IN ROOF WHEN CHANGED OUT FLUE. AFTER A MONTH STILL WAITING ON RESOLUTION OF ROOF LEAK, CONCERNED WITH RUSTING OF FURNACE.
Description of Work: REPLACED CURRENT UNDERSIZED H & A CARRIER SYSTEM THAT IS JUST 6 YEARS OLD WITH A TOP OF THE LINE LENNOX SYSTEM. DUE TO MY WIFE'S ILLNESS IT IS ESSENTIAL TO KEEP OUR HOME AROUND 70 DEGREES ALL YEAR. THE CURRENT SYSTEM COULD NOT HANDLE. AFTER CHECKING WITH AS MANY AS 6 CONTRACTORS AND 3 QUOTES WE SELECTED CHARLOTTE COMFORT SYSTEMS. DISCUSSED PROJECT WITH SCOTT SHELTON OWNER. LENNOX DUAL FUEL SYSTEM WAS INSTALLED TODAY. THIS CHANGE OVER INCLUDED RE-DUCTING ENTIRE DUCT SYSTEM.

AFTER CONTACTING THREE OTHER CONTRACTORS WHO EITHER COULD NOT PROVIDE RELATIVELY IMMEDIATE SERVICE, OR TRIED TO ''RIP US OFF'' WE CONTACTED THESE FOLKS. THEY RESPONDED QUICKLY, PROVIDED THE CORRECT COOLING UNIT AT A VERY GOOD PRICE, WITH NO HIDDEN CHARGES OR BADMOUTHING THE COMPETITION. THESE FOLKS ARE THE MOST REPUTABLE CONTRACTORS I'VE EVER DEALT WITH, AND I IMMEDIATELY EXECUTED A MAINTENANCE CONTRACT. CLEARLY A REAL GEM IN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE!!
Description of Work: ONE OF OUR COOLING UNITS FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF A RECENT HEATWAVE. THEY CAME TO OUR HOUSE, CONFIGURED THE CORRECT SOLUTION, AND REPLACED OUR UNIT WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS OR FOLLOW UP REQUIRED. THEIR PRICE WAS AT LEAST $500.00 UNDER ONE CONTRACTOR, AND $2,000.00 UNDER THE FOLKS WHO DO THE BULK OF THE ADVERTISING IN CHARLOTTE.

DON'T KNOW FOR SURE IF I GOT THE BEST PRICE SINCE I DIDN'T GET ESTIMATES. I HAD A $20 OFF COUPON FROM ANGIE'S LIST THAT THEY HONORED AND THEY WERE RATED AN A FOR PRICE, BUT I DID INSTINCTIVELY FEEL IT WAS A BIT HIGH CONSIDERING THE AMOUNT OF TIME THE WORK TOOK (ABOUT 20 MINUTES TOTAL). PUNCTUALITY WISE, THEY WERE NO-SHOW FOR FIRST SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT. ONE OF THE SERVICEMEN HAD A DEATH IN THE FAMILY AND THEY FORGOT TO CALL AND RESCHEDULE ME. AT SECOND APPOINTMENT, SERVICEMAN DIDN'T HAVE PART ON TRUCK AND HAD TO COME BACK, BUT AGAIN DUE TO CIRCUMSTANCES HE SAYS WERE BEYOND HIS CONTROL, HE WAS AT LEAST 2 HOURS LATE FOR FOLLOW-UP APPOINTMENT. ALL IN ALL, THEY WERE APOLOGETIC, COURTEOUS AND SENT ME A THANK YOU NOTE. I'M CHOOSING TO BELIEVE THE PROBLEMS WITH LATENESS WHERE UNUSUAL AND WOULD GIVE THEM ANOTHER SHOT IF I NEEDED SIMILAR SERVICES.
Description of Work: REPLACED HEATING COUPLET IN GAS FIREPLACE.
