Description of Work: They showed up in the middle of the night for an emergency service where sewage was overflowing into our house. They showed up promptly and were professional and helpful. However, we found out the pipe in our front yard was completely blocked by a tree root and would have to be replaced. They completed the service promptly the next morning and our plumbing has been fine ever since. Our main complaint is that we were WAY over charged for the amount of work that was done. The plumber spent approximately 20 minutes during the night diagnosing the problem, and then the pipe replacement was done in approximately 2 hours the next morning. That turns out to be approximately $1500.00 per hour !!!! We feel that were taken advantage of in a time when we felt we were in an emergency. Others in our neighborhood have had the same experience - of course we found this out after the fact!!

Description of Work: Installed an HVAC system, I was not happy with all the work that was done, an am pursuing having them fix the small problems.
Description of Work: I noticed a smell on the first floor of our home that smelled like my cat's litter pan. That's exactly what I thought it was until the smell lingered after the pan was cleaned. I went out the front door and noticed our under-the-house sump pump was pumping water up and it hadn't rained in a few days. I called Ben Franklin and they sent out Tim. Tim went under the house and I flushed a toilet in the house. A sewer pipe had broken under the house and raw sewage was spewing causing the sump pump to pump it out in the front yard. Not good at all!! The sewage line from my house to the street was clogged and, since I have an older house, I don't have a "Clean out" to clean the line. Tim gave me an estimate of around $3,000 - $4,000 and I ok'd the deal. This was a Saturday. Ben Franklin had a back-hoe at the house within 2 hours to excavate down 4 feet in the front of my house, cut out a 2 foot section of old cast iron sewer line, and replace it with a pvc pipe with an extension to ground level for future cleanout. Tim cleaned out the line and filled in the hole. He then went under the house and fixed the broken line and spread lime on the sewage to kill the bacteria and smell. This was an all-day job. Overall I'm very satisfied with their work. Ben Franklin has resources at their disposal to handle big jobs that smaller plumbers just can't do. Tim did a great job and was very personable.

I had an emergency situation on a weekend. I called and they were able to come out promptly. I was willing to pay the regular call-out fee but the customer svc rep helped me find a discount. Jeff was clean, courteous, and wearing clean shoes and uniform. While the service was expensive, all plumbing service is expensive. Jeff's professionalism gave confidence, and I would call Ben Franklin Plumbing again should plumbing service be needed.

I have had a few interactions with them since a year ago. They have done great work for me. They are very good. They had done the original work on the garbage disposal. So, they did not charge me for the repair. I had a leak under a concrete piping and it would have cost me $12000 to repair the same. However, they found a way to re-pipe using the ceiling of the roof. It saved me a lot of money and they worked very hard to finish the job. They did a great job. I would highly recommend them. I will use them again in the future.

I got a couple of estimates. Their quotes were much higher, and I was able to negotiate a lower price when I showed them the other quotes. Their service contract for the future was pretty good, while still being competitive with the other quotes that I got. The gentleman who came out was very knowledgeable and professional. He was a clean-cut guy who represented his company very well.

While we can completely understand you being upset with the price being a little high, you have to remember that you are paying for a highly skilled and certified plumber that has been drug tested and criminal back ground tested so that not only will your work being done correct but you are comfortable with knowing that you and your family is safe and your home will also be safe.

The water heater was successfully installed. However, the cost for using Ben Franklin was over $1300, (and over $2000 for the entire job when I add the price of the water heater I had already purchased) for simply replacing a water heater that should have been uneventful and moderate in cost. First, the rates for Ben Franklin are quite high -- exorbitant, in my opinion as a prior customer. There was also an addition to the already high price of installation via an expansion tank, which the installer from BF stated is now necessary for everyone. This added over $200 to the price for the job. Since the heater is in the attic, the installer also called a peer worker to come help him carry the water heater up the attic stairs and this was another additional cost ($100 for labor is my memory just for that event due to hourly rates). The second addition to the price is that my attic opening was about an inch too small to accommodate the new water heater. This was discovered only after the older water heater had been removed and the process of installation could not be halted. A section (two of the four 1x4s that comprised the frame to these pull down attic stairs) had to be cut and removed, then replaced by the installer. In Ben Franklin terms, this is known as "difficult access" and this added over $450 to the installation price. This of course increased the cost of the job significantly to now over $1300 (just for their work, not including the water heater cost itself, remember). Removing the attic stairs frame pieces and replacing them took the Ben Franklin worker about an additional hour to accomplish. And when the two boards of the frame were reinstalled, the stairs no longer closed flush and yet they were left that way. I spent 3 hours myself after Ben Franklin left, tearing this out and putting it back correctly. The installer left a "survey card" and I wrote on the card the issue of my having to spend 3 hours correcting what they charged over $450 for, and also indicated I should receive a refund for that amount. I never even received a followup call or any form of followup communication from the company about my negative survey card rating or comments. Therefore, I would caution anyone considering using this company that my experience is one of shaky ethical behavior in my estimation, prices that are far too expensive, poor quality work on part of the job they did for me, and complete lack of response when I indicated my issues and displeasure at all this (which I interpret as not caring about customer satisfaction or the quality of their work). As their tag-line states, this company is punctual; however, that becomes a miniscule positive in the face of the overall dissatisfaction I experienced.
Description of Work: I purchased an energy star water heater as a replacement to my older water heater in the attic, to be proactive (before it started leaking or burst) and get an energy savings as well. I bought and paid for the water heater (from Lowes) in advance of calling Ben Franklin plumbing. I contracted with Ben Franklin company to take out the old water heater and install the new one. No gas or water lines needed to be nor were they replaced during this work. It was a simple replacement installation, albeit work in the attic in colder weather (late fall).

Thank you for allowing us to respond to your report. Please keep in mind that difficulty and liability have a price. This price is usually higher than run of the mill work. I have reviewed the work that was done and the charges justifiable. Please also remember that Ben Franklin Plumbing ALWAYS gives their customers a straight forward price before any work is done allowing them to make a decision to have the work done "right now" or maybe after getting other quotes. We believe doing business like this avoids having anyone feel that they paid too much for any services provided.

Thank you for allowing us to serve you, we are sorry you did not find value in our service. Ben Franklin plumbing prides itself in giving EVERY customer a straight forward price PRIOR to starting any work. This allows the customer to ask questions about the job or maybe get a few other prices before making a decision. Experience overall was pretty good. I had a free service coupon from the Charlotte Observer which is why I called as I had these existing plumbing issues. I called the general number and spoke with Pepper who was very friendly. She quoted me 2-9pm as my coupon was for standby service. I received a call at 11:15am that the plumber could be on his way then. I started home at 11:45 and got a call from the plumber that he was at my house. He waited til 11:55 or 12 when I got home and I apologized. Tom Stueber was the plumber. I explained all of the problems and he told me he could fix everything and had a warehouse on wheels (the truck). He did have everything needed to fix the problems. When he quoted the price of the toilet, I thought it was very high and told him I'd get the toilet done later (I had nothing to compare it to so I don't know). He did not want to leave it like that and he told me he would do all of the jobs for the price I ended up paying which sounded much better. I wanted the disposal removed all together as I don't really like them, he gave me pros and cons. I ended up letting him install a new one which has a 5 year vs. the standard 2 year warranty. I also asked him other plumbing questions while he was working which he answered. Very professional, friendly, knowledgeable plumber.
Description of Work: Toilet did not flush, diagnosed that it should be "rebuilt" which included putting new flushing mechanism in tank and possibly something else, I don't know. Bathroom sink did not stop up with me pulling the lever, he fixed or replaced the item that had broken. Garbage disposal was no longer working.

I have had an okay experience with them. They were very professional. They were very prompt. They were right on time when they told me that they were going to be there. The only thing that I do not like is that they have to charge a standard service charge, but that goes for all plumbing companies.

It went great overall. The plumber (David) was very knowledgeable, professional and prompt. I would not hesitate to call on them again. I thought the cost was high for the work/time involved, but I'm pleased with the work.
Description of Work: Plant roots had gotten into our main sewer line causing a blockage. The company came out for an emergency call, ran a camera in to find the blockage. By the time the problem was found it was late and they committed to be back 1st thing in the a.m. to dig down to the pipe, cut out the leaking section and replace it. They were on time when they came back and promptly repaired the problem. While there we had them fix other issues and they were flexible in correcting those items as well. This additional work is not reflected in the cost above.
