They were prompt and professional. They were responsive and we had an issue with the garbage disposal so they came out the next week to correct the issues. There was one person here doing the work and it took a couple of hours to complete everything.

There was an odor coming from underneath my house and I thought it might be the sewer lines. I call Ben Franklin and a young man arrived in a BF truck. He did not however work for BF, as I later found out. He worked for what BF said was their and quot;sisterand quot; company. He told me that water was pouring out of my kitchen pipes. He said I might even need a restoration crew which he proceeded to call. They arrived, looked under the home, and said everything was dry. I crawled under the house myself and saw nothing. The space is almost prohibitive to inspect but it certainly was dry. Before I went under the house, the man tried to sell me a kitchen drain pipe for $1300 and a further pipe for $2000. I did not need anything at all. He charged me $69 for the house call and $121 for nothing. I was so confused with all this that I paid and later regretted and called BF to speak with the manager who did not return my call until I filed a complaint with the BBB. I then was refunded $121. I would never call this company again, even if all the others are closed.
Description of Work: Ben Franklin rep looked under my home and made up a problem that he said needed to be taken care of.

Both times recently with this provider, getting an appointment set up in a timely and efficient manner was very difficult. The people you talk to on the telephones cannot seem to schedule appointments. They have to call the dispatcher, but can never get them. They promise (note the word promise) to have the dispatcher call you back, but that does not happen. And, when you do get a call back, it is not to the right number. I became very frustrated. The time I was buying my hot water heater, they almost lost the sale. I should not have to chase them down!! And I am a member of the Benjamin Franklin society which is supposed to give me some sort of status with these folk. The install of the hot water heater was fine. However, the plumber did not explain the hot water heater to me before leaving. Also, I would have expected the whole thing to be brand new but they did not put on a new expansion tank, which I could not figure out. This most recent time, they came out to investigate and deal with a noise the new hot water heater was making. The plumber they sent was very nice and spent a lot of time trying to figure out what was making the noise. He made the situation better but did not get it solved. I am disappointed. I think I am going to have to end my relationship with Ben Franklin as these last two incidents have been troubling to me.
Description of Work: Two months ago, I had the provider put in a new hot water heater. This time, they came out to deal with a high pitched whining noise coming from the hot water heater.

The gas logs no longer leak. We are very happy with the water heater. They took it out of the attic and installed it in the garage. It really looks great and works well. What impressed us the most was the supervisor who came to check out the work done. He detected our furnace in the attic was leaking gas. We told him of our struggles with the previous heating and air company and the home warranty company. Because of our difficulties, the supervisor personally returned and fixed the leak and placed a new regulator for free. This company believes in doing what is right and stands by their work.
Description of Work: Initially repaired gas log gas leak. So impressed with their work we called them back to replace our water heater, garbage disposal, and whole house water filter

I called this company to install a faucet for a new countertop I had just put in. My normal plumber was running a few days out for appointments, so I thought I would give Ben Franklin a try. The technician was an hour late and quoted me $519 for a kitchen faucet install and to connect an existing disposal. Then he insisted that he had to charge me $49 for the service fee when I expressed concern over the escessive price. I had another plumber estimate the job at my house earlier that day for $189 (which I thought was too high, which is why I called Ben Franklin). The technician hassled me when I refused to pay the service fee. I also received a call from the sales manager later in the day. The explanation was that and quot;new customersand quot; have to pay a service fee if they do not decide to have Ben Franklin perform the work - which seems unfair as the technician could charge/estimate any fee they want and know they are guaranteed $49 - and most customers will go forward with the work because they are already paying the service fee. Either way, poor business practice and extremely high price. I had the project done by another Angie's List company for $145 the next day.

There were shorter windows of time available that the consumer chose not to invest in. Our time of arrival was around 2pm on Sunday, March 26, 2013. The $49 service charge was waived after the consumer refused to pay it and no other correspondence with the consumer followed. I declined their service because their price was way over my budget.
Description of Work: I had called my realtor who recommended Benjamin Franklin to install new kitchen faucet and install bathroom faucet following granite installation and their price was extremely higher than any one else. The realtor had suggested they were a little pricey but I found that to be an understatement. Angie's consumers needs to be advised this is definitely not one to call unless you are wealthy. Their prices must be based on how much they pay for their television/radio marketing and other media marketing and their high overhead as they are way above the average plumbing cost and definitely more than a middle class earning family can afford. I ended up using a licensed plumber that the granite installer suggested who was much more reasonable and I was pleased with their installation as well as their price. Unless you have a lot of money, I would not call Benjamin Franklin. To be fair, I have heard they do quality work but at their price, I would expect it to be perfect. You can get a licensed plumber to do quality work for a lot less.

We paid $ 69.00 for them to come to the house + $ 189.00 for service. . I mentioned to the serviceman that I thought it was high. then he said what do you think is fair . I said about $ 150.00.Total . He gave me the bill for the $ 258.00 and that was it. Never again

the toilet is fine no further problems. The hot water heater was fine until four months ago. the alarm goes off leaving me without hot water. the plumber has not been able to figure out the cause of the problem.
Description of Work: I called the plumber for a problem with my toilet. In checking out the rest of the plumbing, the plumber found out that I needed a new hot water heater. the hot water heaer is located in the attic over my clothes closet. because of the danger of leakage, I decided to go with a tankless hot water heater. I have been happy with my purchase until four months ago. the water heater alarm starts going off. the plumber cannot figure out why this keeps happening.

They did a good job. I think they were probably higher priced than some of the others. I can't remember how much I spent on their services. I haven't thought about using them again in the future. It depends on what I'm going to have done.

I don't feel I had a problem with the old toilets. I really didn't have a problem with the drain line. I was paranoid due to some issues a friend had and wanted him to look at the lines. Don't let the fast talking, manipulation of the sales person push you into making a purchase you don't need to make.
Description of Work: This company uses high pressure sales. I called them out to scope the drain line. They told me the problem was my toilets. They never looked at the drain. The sales associate kept pushing until he convinced me he would look at the drains if I bought 2 new toilets from him. I shouldn't have done it but I had alot going on at the time and told him to go ahead. After I purchased both toilets from him, he only checked the drain at the edge of the house where it goes to the outside pipe. He never looked at the one that would have let me know what was happening through out the house with the line.

Description of Work: Ben Frankin Plumbing was, hands down, the worst plumber I have ever used. First, they sent a sales rep out instead of a repair man. We were told that our hot water heater was faulty and needed to be replaced. The entire time he was here he repeatedly told us how horrible Charlotte's water was and the serious health issues it posed to our family. His goal was to sell us a 3000 dollar water filtration system!!! The only issue we were having before he came out was minimal hot water- NOW they say we have a whole host of issues. After I finally realized what he was all about I said "thanks anyway" and called another plumber (All about the Pipes 704-559-5288). I found out that the hot water heater only needed to be flushed and it only cost me 107.87!! Be extremely careful when dealing with Ben Franklin. They are not up front about a lot of things and are extremely deceitful. They will tell you that you have issues when you don't- and Charlotte has exceptional water, based on a national survey. Also remember they do heating and air through a sister company! Be careful!!!!!

I fired the company for failing to do the job in a timely manner. Another plumber completed the work in less than 3 hours.
Description of Work: Service dispatcher made appointment to meet emergency and my schedule. I was advised I would be charged $49 service fee for dispatch. Technical was 45 minutes late. He had difficulty finding home; but he might have called for directions sooner. I was asked to sign acknowledgement of the service call fee at the beginning of the visit. Two prices were quoted for emergency repair of shower valves and total replacement. I asked many questions and had difficulty understanding the replacement work. That was going to cost over $500. Then I was told that repair was not possible; and replacement would be required. Plumber said he did not have the part on the truck and would have to go to the warehouse before it closed. Water was turned off at the street, because turnoff could not be located. About an hour later, he called to advise part was not in the warehouse and he could come at 9 a.m. the next day. He did not arrive the next morning at that time. Around 11 a.m., a dispatcher called to say that the part had not been located and I did not have to wait at home. I was advised that I would receive a call an hour before arrival. I said that I could not believe that the part was so unique and I would call the manufacturer. I called the dealer and was referred to another plumber.I hired the second plumber and called Ben Franklin and canceled the service order. The second plumber, Bobby B. Helms, Mobile Home Repair Service, arrived about n hour after I called him. He needed two hours to locate the part and installed it in less than one half hour. He charged me less than $100. Ben Franklin's representative should have just told me they could not provide service for a manufactured home. I went without water for almost 24 hours.

I had questions about the repair and I decided not to go with them because I wasn't quite sure that they found out the exact cause of the leak. They were nice and handled everything professionally but I decided to go with somebody else. They had good communication even through my questioning to one of the people that they had sent out. I followed up with them and they actually returned my money. They signed a kind of recommendation that the plumber had made when he came out was not correct.

It seemed the repair was satisfactory but in July we discovered another water problem in a secluded area of our front yard. We called Ben Franklin who sent a technician. He looked and quoted a price to investigate and determine the source of the issue, never offering to uncover the previous repair. We called another plumber who determined the problem was an ineffective repair in May by Ben Franklin. We asked the new plumber to make the repair since they were onsite,and we had lost confidence in Ben Franklin. We contacted Ben Franklin to request a refund of our cost for the faulty repair and were told we needed to talk with Paul the general manager. He didn't return our phone call, and since we had previous experience with phone calls not being returned, we visited their location. We were able to meet with Paul, who would not make a refund but did agree to cover our cost for the second plumber. One month passed, and we hadn't received a check so we called and left a message for Paul. Again, there was no response to our call so we made another visit to their office. Another man offered to get the check for us, and within 20 minutes, it was given to us. Ben Franklin's work was faulty, and their general manager does not return phone calls.
Description of Work: Water was bubbling up at a spot in front yard. Since we've used this company exclusively for 20 years, we requested they find the problem and repair it. They determined we had a leak in our water supply line between the water meter and the house. They charged us for a warranted repair and did the work.

I am not happy with them. I have a slow drain which I wanted them to clean and I know when you call them there is a trip charge and I wanted to know what that would be. The trip charge was $69 and if there is work done then they take it off. I said to the girl in their office that I have a slow drain and I am going to tell you that I am not going to pay $300 for it. She said that she could not give me a base price over the phone and that they would have to come out to give me a price. The guy who came out opened the price book and the price he quoted was $365. I hate the feeling and I told him that it was not worth $300 to clean the slow drain. I told the lady that I was not paying $69 for someone to come out and give me a quote which was $300. They didn't wave the charge and I set it up in the interview. I told them that if it was more than so much I wouldn't be using it. They wasted their time and my time. They were very professional and nice to me. I gave him his coupon back and I told him I would never call him back again.

The water heater hadn't taken a crap but it was getting old. Our house was 14 years old and it was the original water heater. We investigated a tankless water heater and floated out some calls to different providers around here. I try to work local when possible. The guy that did the install for Ben Franklin doesn't live too far from me. We are not personal friends but we bump into each other every once in awhile at the diner. When we were looking at it, we asked him to swing by to look at it and he did. Of the 4 companies that we looked at, they had the best quote and the best rating. There was nothing on their BBB so we went with them and everything was as smooth as silk. They brought in an electrician to do the electrical for it. Tommy was the crew supervisor. It is a Rinnai unit. They sell several different versions and manufactures of the tankless but from what we saw on the internet it was one of the highest rated and most dependable. They did an excellent job. I was a pipefitter for 25 years so I know plumbing. They did an excellent job under the house and they pulled out the old system and removed it. They were very clean and didn't demolish everything in sight. The plumbing is very professional. I had one minor issue and they called 5 minutes after I called the answering service. They showed up at the house 15 minutes after that. They are a really good group of people to deal with and very professional about what they do. I would absolutely use them again for any plumbing issue that I couldn't handle. I would call them again without any question.
