Initial Job: Replace water main between street and house. Follow-up Jobs: Water heater flush & increase PSI at street for the house. Adam, the plumber for my account, was great. He showed up exactly ok time with his whole team, his explanations were friendly and informative, he told me exactly what would happen and in what phases, and it went that way from start to finish. I felt very comfortable with the entire project. He also gave me his personal cell phone number, and told me if anything was wrong I could always contact him day or night directly to come look into it. It was customer service you don’t get too often but wish you did. I would be more than happy recommending them to anyone!!!

DO NOT USE!!! VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! I had Benjamin Franklin Plumbing out to snake a clogged drain and they charged me almost $300 and couldn’t even fix my drain! I had a technician out to the house twice and he tried to take advantage of the fact thatI am a single female. He tried to sell me new pipes. I ended up having a friend’s husband help snake the drain and he had it unclogged in 20 minutes. Their technicians are ignorant and this company is unreliable. They wouldn’t even refund me for their ineffective service.

I've had previous experience with them. and I've never been 100% satisfied with them. I think that they are over priced. I don't think their service reps are that real qualified. I think they are too busy trying to sell their customer service program. I had one with them, and he was here an hour and a half and he spent and hour trying to get me to buy a more expensive policy, the types of policies they sell. Where you pay so much a month and then they will come out at a discount and give you a discount. I do still have a plan with them, and I would call them in an emergency.

They were good. It was about $1200 to get a water heater replaced. They were very prompt, we had a water heater explode in the basement, so a leak in the basement. They arrived first thing in the morning. It was a good and positive experience. They came, had the supervisor come by later that day, or the next day to check and make sure we were satisfied with the work. They came right away, and had a follow up with a manager.

My husband was changing a vanity and cut the piping behind it. We didn't have the tools to fix it. We were very upset with them. We thought they took advantage because of what they did and how much he charged us. He told us that the only reason they charge that much is because they had the tool. We found out that tool only cost $50 and he charged us $350. He didn't do much for that price. We ended up buying the tool after the fact. It took him 15 minutes. I would never use them again. They are just outrageously expensive. We asked a price to move a pipe an inch and they wanted $1500 and we did it ourselves for $50, plus the tool. Their prices could be more reasonable. They are not the only game in town. We didn't know what they were going to charge at the time, and we were in a bind. If we would've know ahead of time about the tool, my husband would've went out and bought it. It was an okay job. They were quick. They did come out right away. That one particular guy that came out with that comment wasn't very professional, but their professionalism as a whole is pretty decent. The problem I had was with one particular person and the price.

we call the next day to complain . talk to 3 people and left 4 messages. no one has yet to call us back. so we stopped payment on check. they turned it over to a collection agency. we had all intention to pay something but not no 900.00 for a problem not fixed. phone book add say satisfaction guarantee. we call roto router they charged 344.00. and fixed problem in 2 hours. we did call the owner who did call back but checks go directy to a collection agency and they got there money so its not his problem anymore. so we have this collector calling that they will be comeing to collect once a week.
Description of Work: we had used them twice before and charge us between 200.00 -300.00 dollars for the same problem. clogged drain. this time they did the same process and did not fix problem. invoice said attempted to unclog drain. then charged us 905.00

We have no complaint as to the plumbers, they were all very professional and explained things as they went. However we felt that the overall price was a bit high and once the problem was diagnosed we really had no choice. We couldn't shop around at that point and find another plumber and we felt that the company took advantage of our situation.
Description of Work: We had a sewer problem and called around noon on Friday. We were told we were next on the list. At 8 that evening the dispatcher called and told us that the previous job ran longer than expected and it would be approximately 10 before a plumber could make it. We were frustrated but chose to wait for the 1st appointment the next morning. Joe came, did an inspection of the line and diagnosed a blockage in the cleanout, which required a backhoe and line replacement. We agreed because at that point we felt we had no choice. Within an hour the backhoe arrived and it took them another hour to dig out the cleanout and replace it. That part of the job was very pricey, $3200 for a few hours work.

Apart from a misunderstanding with the despatcher, I thought she said the plumber would come straight to us after he had finished another job and he thought he had to call us first to see if we were in which caused a delay, the plumber did a great job. He explained that our water pressure was dangerously high and would cause future problems unless we installed a pressure valve which we decided to do.
Description of Work: The hot water pipe under the kitchen sink detached and was spraying hot water at high pressure into our kitchen. We had to shut off the water and called several plumbing companies on a Saturday morning for help. Benjamin Franklin was the only one that called back and the plumber finally got to us at 7pm and fixed the problem.

We wanted a check up on our air conditioner. Ralph showed up at appointed time . He checked out the air conditioners & determined they needed some major work (16 years old. We had another man come out at our request - Billy banks actually called to see if he could come early. He inspected our equipment and gave us some alternatives. We determined we needed to replace the units. Billy shared with us all our alternatives and we decided on two 3 Ton units that should work well for our needs.. This was Tuesday & they are to install them on Thursday. We have used them to replace old PPV pipes and they did a great job. We also had them replace an old water heater with a new Tank less Water heater which works extremely well. I would highly recommend using them - I will use again when needed ( Hopefully not soon)!!

It was an outside faucet that I thought was leaking and with cold temperatures coming I was concerned. It turned out to be a loose knob and he tightened it and everything was ok. Found my water heater leaking as I'm heading out the door for a busy day. Called Ben Franklin as I was familiar with their name. The woman who answered the phone was very pleasant and they had someone at my home in no time. The tech determined I needed a new water heater and I ok'd the repairs, it was explained that the type of water heater I had was more expensive due to the way it vented. Install looks good, no debris or signs of recent work left when I returned home that evening. Thing is though, the heater installed was a mid grade part that retails for ~$760.00 at Home Depot. 1750.00 to install a gas water heater in an open garage with easy access, two water pipes, 24" of vent pipe and a gas line hook up Ouch!

Our shower was draining slowly, so I called Ben Franklin Plumbing to schedule a service call. When I scheduled the appointment, I was told that the $59 service call fee would be applied toward the cost of any repairs. The technician tried multiple times to pass a snake into the drain without success. He said his camera would not fit in the drain so he was unable to further evaluate the situation. Quoted $3000-5000 to dig up the entire shower floor and repair or replace the drain. Charged $334 (275 to snake the drain plus 59 for the service call) for 30 minutes of work that did not solve my problem and left. Said that fee could be applied toward the cost of the next repair. I called the company to question whether I should be charged for the work when it was unsuccessful. Was told that they need to clean the snake after each use which is why they charge for the service no matter what the outcome. Questioned being charged for the service call when I was told it would be applied to the cost of the job. Was told that isn't and quot;their usual policyand quot; but he agreed to credit me back the $59 since I had been told differently. Called another plumber for a second opinion. He passed a camera through the toilet pipe, found an obstruction and cleared it with the snake for ~$400.

I discovered waste water coming through a drain in our garage. It was a Sunday and we needed to fix the problem ASAP as we had an large event planned for Monday at the house. The long and short it is that i was charged a $99 fee to fix my hot water heater, no repair was made. The tech tried to sell me a new water heater for $3000, he did not even light my pilot light. After he left, I lit my own pilot light and the water heater has worked fine since then. I called to complain and after some discussion he agreed to refund my money. The average homeowner would not know hot to light a pilot light and may have fallen for this unscrupulous tactic. I filed a complaint with the national office, but I don't want anyone to get ripped off so I am posting it here as well. Don't fall for this greedy plumbing company.
Description of Work: What a con artist!!! I called Ben Franklin plumbing because I had no hot water. I knew that my water heater was older but wanted it to be repaired if possible. The tech arrived a little late which I understand since it was a rainy morning during rush hour. He was very courteous and looked at the hot water heater at the surface level, even stating that the pilot light might be out. I let the tech do his job to access the problem and he came back to me back to me with an estimate of approx $1000 to repair the water heater or $3000 to replace it. Additionally he highly recommended that I install a filtration system to increase the life of the new water heater at an additional cost of several thousand dollars. All of these quotes were on a pad that he did not leave for me, even after I requested a copy. I told him that I needed to think about it before making a decision.

Response from Benjamin Franklin Plumbing Charlotte
The $99 was for the diagnostic fee that you requested for a reserved window for us to come out. That was not the charge for us to fix the water heater. The technician found that your pilot light was indeed off and also that your control valve was not working properly. He gave you the quote to repair and also a quote to replace your 15 year old water heater. Our company does not leave a quote with a renter or with a friend. It does not hold justice when it is the owner that is the one that needs educated on the issue to make an informed decision. If you have anymore concerns please feel free to contact us directly. Thank you

At first we thought the sink was just stopped up, but when water began leaking down the walls we knew it had to be more. The pipes in the sewer line had rusted and developed holes and leaks. This was a major undertaking. Jeff was great...realized how traumatic it was for us and was very good about punctuality and keeping us informed of the p;roject . They also cleaned up after themselves as much as possible. I think they did a very good job, but 3 years later I am still having nightmares about the damage and the expense.

The price was ridiculous in 3 areas: 1. A simply showing up fee is $79.00. Yes, just showing up but doing nothing; 2. $155.00 was charged to deal with a sewage gas problem, which can be fixed following instruction from google.com; and 3. The plumber failed to fix the problem and we have to call him back. By the way, on his back, the plumber asked for my credit card wanted to charge showing up fee again! Can you believe that?
