I responded to a solicitation for window replacements under a "promotional" price which I can't discuss. I researched the company that manufactures the windows, Alside, and compared their window to comparable windows from high end window manufactures (Pella and Anderson). They all seemed about equal once you consider the entire window's energy efficiency and not just the Center of Glass rating. I called a few of their references who were all very happy with their windows although they had them for a very short period of time (about 3 months). I would have preferred to speak with references that had them for a year or more and could make power bill comparisons. Anyway ... I agreed to replace about half my windows on the back of my house that gets the most sun. I requested Noah as per suggestions from the references I spoke with. He was prompt, professional, courteous, patient and in my opinion did an excellent job. One windows screen was loose and they ordered me a replacement without question. If after a year or so these windows continue to look good and work well, then I will likely replace the remaining windows on my house.

It went wonderfully. They came out right away to do the estimate. They followed up as they said they would. The windows are fabulous. I love them. The insulation took two days. They were very clean, nice, and friendly. We had a very good experience with them.

We had half our windows replaced last year (also by Apex) and the rest replaced this year. We had absolutely no problems with the installation or quality. The windows actually came in much earlier than anticipated. Would highly recommend Apex for windows.

They’re nice windows; I really love my windows. The people that came to install the windows did not do a very good job. There wasn’t enough caulking around them so I had them come back out and do it again. They came right back out and fixed what I told them to fix. The company itself was upset that the installers hadn’t done a good job. They did right by me.

My husband and I talked about replacement windows over several years as our builder grade windows had always caused problems. Josh came by selling windows. He new the product very well and was able to answer our questions readily. Josh was very to contact with any questions we had before, during and after installation. During our initial meeting he was able to show us ways we could save money on the installation and which window was best suited for what window. Customer service is top notch. The windows are so beautiful! I can now open my windows with the slightest touch. Our utility bills have dropped. I have not needed to turn on the air downstairs as of yet. Our temps outside have been in the mid to upper 80's. We have had t turn the air on upstairs but not as often or as strong to keep upstairs comfortable.

Apex was very flexible when it came to meeting with us around our work schedule. Additional questions that came up after the initial visit and quote were answered completely and promptly. The installation occurred on-time, and in the time period originally quoted. The quality of window for the price we paid was outstanding, and we are anxiously waiting til we can finish the project!

From the salesman to the installation crew every one performed well. The product is great and the companies follow up was perfect. I highly recommend Apex .

I had no idea what was in store for me when my wife and decided to replace our windows. Windows are expensive and I wanted to be a well educated buyer. Unfortunately the replacement window industry doesn't make it easy for a buyer to feel educated. We had several companies come out to provide quotes. All wanted to show off their window and tell us how great of a company they are. That is fine but these demonstrations can feel like a live infomercial. The companies will not give you pricing until you sit and watch the infomercial which is ridiculous to me. Salespeople will stand on their windows, take a blow torch to the window, and show you fancy heat graphs describing the efficiency. My feeling on this is it is basically useless. You do get to see one of their windows and try to make a judgment on quality and craftsmanship but it will probably the fanciest window they sell with all the upgrades not the window you will buy. The salesperson will also tell you efficiency numbers and statistics that go in one ear and out the other. Luckily I found the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC). All major window manufactures submit their windows to be tested and the NFRC reports these numbers. These ratings are whole window ratings do not let a salesperson tell you a center of glass rating. So do yourself a favor and compare the windows you are being sold here: http://search.nfrc.org/search/searchDefault.aspx Their are a ton of window ratings published on the site and it can be difficult to find the specific model the salesperson is quoting you. So I suggest you have the salesperson find the window for you on the website during their demonstration. When your windows arrive to be installed they will have a sticker on them with the NFRC rating, you don't want to be unpleasantly surprised by the ratings when they are installing them. So check it out before you buy. Note the numbers on the windows they install may be slightly different than those published online, primarily because the published windows are for a small size window. Basically the rating has 4 numbers: U-Factor - The lower the U-Factor the better the window’s thermal performance. This is main number because it basically tells you the amount of heat transfers through the window. Some salespeople will try to give you a U number that is not a whole window rating but a center of glass rating. Ignore that number it doesn't mean anything. Solar Heat Gain Coefficient - A measurement of how well products block heat caused by sunlight. Typically for warm climates you want this to be low and cold climates you want it to be high. However, you may have some locations in your house (dark, north facing window, where you want this to be higher) Visible Transmittance(VT) - A measurement of how much light comes through the window. Expressed as a number between 0 and 1, the higher the VT the better. Energy Efficient windows are not clear they will block some light. Condensation Resistance - A measurement of how well the window resists condensation on the glass. The higher the number the better. For windows to be energy-star certified the numbers must meet a certain level. Many window manufactures add a coating to the glass to reduce Solar Heat Gain. In fact I think all high efficiency windows do this. This coating can make your windows seem tinted (low VT). If you are replacing old windows you will notice a significant difference and it can take some getting used to. So you may not want to order the same window for every place in your home. For instance, when replacing a north facing window that does not get much light you may want a window that has a high VT and high Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. This window may not qualify for the Tax Rebate (Energy-Star) but it may actually keep your home warmer in the winter because it lets in more sunlight. Do not be afraid to order different windows for different locations. If you have a dark basement, maybe you do not need to spend the money for ultra high efficient windows that darken the basement. Finally the salesperson will provide a quote. Don't let them pressure you here. Tell them you still have company "A, B, and C" left to see. If you know one of these companies has better NFRC ratings tell them that. You can get a better price than their first quote. Tell them you cannot make a decision now but would like to come see their showroom. Don't let them tell you will get a deal if you sign tonight. That is nothing but a sales tactic. You can get a better price than their first quote. We chose Apex and it turned out to be a good decision for us. Apex will then have Alside send out a representative to d a final measurement on your windows. When he arrived he also tested a window and found lead. Most companies charge a flat rate for lead abatement. Find out what this charge is ($100). The installers do have to take more time so some charge is reasonable. The installers also have paperwork to fill out and can be fined if they do not follow the procedure, so charging extra for lead abatement is understandable. However a flat rate per window can seem a little much if you are doing a lot of windows or if you have multiple windows in one opening. The installers seal off the opening not each window so it seems unfair to pay per window in this case. If your home has a few different styles of windows (aluminum windows in a bathroom, but wood windows elsewhere) make sure they test for lead on those windows also, you do not want to pay for lead abatement if you don't have to. My wife and I ended up using Apex for our windows because we wanted high efficient windows. They are not the highest efficiency window (Soft-lite is, but they are expensive) but they are close to the top and were more affordable. We ordered the windows and they arrived about 4 weeks later. The installation took 2 and a half days (lead abatement takes more time). Unfortunately I noticed that the bathroom window was not safety glass. All windows with safety glass have a label on the corner of the glass. Apex acknowledged the mistake and ordered replacements right away. There was 1 other defect on a bedroom window. A metal piece that holds the window snug to the side was detached. Rather than repair it they again ordered a new window. The installers were courteous and did a quality job. They cleaned up and the trim/siding/caulk look nice. Apex and Alsides did a nice job. If you are starting down the path of replacing windows I suggest the following - 1. Check Angie's List 2. Call a few companies to setup appointments 3. Research the windows online 4. Do not be afraid to use lower efficiency windows in some areas of your house 5. Do not take the first quote, ask for a lower price.

Their price was wonderful. We compared them with two of their competitors and they were able to get us a much nicer window for less money. They came when they were supposed to. They didn't make a mess and were able to complete the job in one day. They had really nice people working for them. I trusted them, I even left them alone in my house. We have had no problems with them at all. The windows are wonderful.

I love my windows. They are really easy to work. I don't really have any dislikes.

The crew was very friendly, courteous, and neat. We were very impressed with the quality of the windows. They have features of the "big name" companies, the price is much lower, and some features such as triple pane and low e features are superior. The company locks in your price and it is guaranteed regardless of how long it takes you to complete the order. We did our house in two years, so payment today was less than half of the total spent. I feel like I have a beautiful, new home.

They started early on a Tuesday morning. Three installers showed up to install all the windows. They setup in our driveway and began the work. Two worked inside and one outside for the first day and a half and then they all moved outside. Originally they thought it would take 4 days but they were able to finish in 3. They worked until it got too dark out. They were very professional and definitely knew what they were doing. They were meticulous. I think our house was cleaner after the install then before.

From start to finish things could not have gone better. Our salesman, Stefan, was clear and accurate with our estimate. The work was scheduled quickly after the windows were manufactured. Noah and his installation crew arrived on time, worked efficiently and left all areas neat and tidy. There was great communication between ordering, scheduling, installing and follow-up. We are extremely happy with how our new windows look, the value they add to our home and how energy efficient they are...no more air drafts coming in!
