I'm still finding pieces of wiring around the house. The company had to return once because there was a large amount of static on the phone line, and they left a tool hanging from the ceiling. However, the installers were very kind, and the system works fine now.

Everything went well. There was one minor gliche. After the company left, I noticed that our home telephone system would only ring once when someone called. I called out our cable company to check this out and they diagnosed everything. We couldn't find a problem with the phone system. Once the cable company left, I called the security company and they said when you use their system with a digital phone system, there is sometimes a minor gliche. They said they would send us an electronic patch to take care of this gliche. 30 minutes later after we received this patch, everything was up and running. My only problem was that the company didn't give us the patch right away, but then again, maybe it is needed sometimes and not needed other times.

I don't remember the price. What stands out is that I can't remember anything negative about it. They came in, put it all in, and did what they said they were going to do. It seemed to be reasonable. I don't recall any problems. It was done fairly quickly. A couple of months later one of the components wasn't working right. I called them and they came out promptly and fixed it with no issues. They were professional. They have changed their name now to Broadview or something.
Description of Work: Brinks Home Security installed a wireless home alarm system for me in 2007.

They installed our system a couple of years ago. My experience with them has been very positive. We haven?t had any break-ins but when someone sets off the alarm, they are quick to respond. We had one sensor that needed fixed, they came out quickly and took care o it, and they didn?t charge us too much for it.
Description of Work: ADT does our home security. They installed the system on our windows and doors and they the monthly monitoring too.

The technical side of the work went relatively well. Getting it arranged and scheduled was a customer service nightmare. The rep who quoted the work was apparently terminated shortly after. However his voicemail was not changed. After waiting for over a week to hear back from him about starting the work, I finally found out he was no longer there. He had given me the Installation manager's name and number. Despite at least 6 messages, I have never talked to the installation manager. After several days of attempting to schedule the first phase of the installation without anyone calling back, I finally insisted that I speak to a manager. After being told he was at his desk, I was transferred twice to his voicemail. Finally I spoke with Jeremy who set up the "rough in" installation. A few weeks later, I had to repeat the process again and make numerous calls to get the final installation set up. I left a final message with the regional sales manager to discuss my experience. It's been a week and I have not heard from him. The only positive things about the whole experience were that the tech who did the final installation was very professional and hard working. He had to track down the "rough in" tech because they didn't send the same person back and several wires were not labeled. A few days later, after the installation was finished, the accounting person called and had mistakenly charged the credit card used for alarm monitoring instead of depositing the check I had given to the tech. He was the first person who actually called and admitted that he made a mistake. In the end he was the only person who provided good customer service and his mistake was actually to my benefit. He even told me that he would reverse the charge and fix his mistake. His honesty and responsiveness was refreshing. Since the alarm monitoring service has never been a problem, we are still with ADT, however if I need any other service, I will likely change companies.
Description of Work: In the course of a major home renovation, we needed to upgrade and expand our security system. Since we had been a customer of ADT for 7 years we called them to make the changes in the existing system. The work included adding two door sensors, a new keypad, relocating the control box and adding 3-4 new glass break sensors and smoke detectors.

We have a contract with them. They walked us through the system. One time we had a false alarm and they were very responsive and everything worked the way it should. The key fobs they gave us were not working and that is why we had a false alarm. I have contacted their service department for that. We were not charged for putting the equipment in because that was part of the house. My husband thinks the price is a little high, but I think it is okay for a certain piece of mind.
Description of Work: We contracted with ADT to monitor the alarm system that was put in our house. They added some more sensors. They switched it from digital to a landline.

It is my belief that they oversold the system. It took the technician forever to get this system installed and he did it by himself. On top of this I had numerous service calls and sometimes they wouldn?t show up. My roommate took time off of work. The reason they gave is that they couldn?t find us on their GPS system. They didn?t bother to call, they just didn?t come! In August of 2008 they promised us a new system, but never produced. The system never really worked on away, only on stay. When you would set it to away, it would go off and you?d have to come back in and turn it off. When you shut the dryer door it would set the alarm off. Yet in October of 2008 someone busted my front glass door and the alarm didn?t go off. They failed to put one of our doors on the system. Their monitoring fee was over $80 a month. The straw that broke the camels back was in December of 2008 a technician came over while I was having a party, took all the coats out of my closet and left them strewn about my den. I have a Smart System and he pulled all the wires out of it, left debris on the floor of the closet and all the wires hanging with the panel door off in the closet. He said he would come back, but never did. I feel like I lost $9,500.00 and a lot of time with them though. I was harassed by their billing department at all hours of the day and night. I would tell them to send someone out and then I would pay, but they would not. I don?t feel they were residentially alarm friendly at all. They never actually did what I asked them to do. I also had a medical alert system and intercom system that never worked. I talked to Curtis Hill and Chuck Smith. I discontinued my service with them and I would never use them again. They said the only way they would fix my problems is if I renewed my service with them.

It's a 1-800 number, so you get what you get. In general, the service is pretty good. They are pretty responsive. They show up when they say they will show. The cost is consistent; there haven't been any surprises. I'd say they're about average.
Description of Work: We have a service contract with them for $400 a year. The alarm has motion sensors and alarms. It includes an exterior noisemaker.

We watched their presentation and we liked that there was not much sales pressure. They simply laid out all of the features. They gave us a feeling of confidence, so we went with them. Their prices are competitive and we have been happy with them so far.

Great experience. Jimmy with Brinks stopped by for the estimate. We had Brinks previously at our old home and took advantage of their mover's service. Their price was great, although the monthly monitoring is a bit higher than other estimates I received. When all is said and done, I've been really pleased with their service level for the past several years and was glad to continue with them in our new home. It was a great experience as they were done well within the time frame desired.

I did schedule them to fix the disabled system prior to changing companies; the technician was on time and professional; he presented appropriate choices for repairing the system and did so in a timely manner; my primary dissatisfaction was with the unprofessionalism and changing story from the company
Description of Work: POOR SERVICE; asked to be put on the maintenance program, ADT dropped the ball; had an event later that required repair and they did not honor the request for adding maintenance program; when challenged I received the usual run around and transfer from one answering machine to another; when I finally talked to a person received conflicting reports; the person giving initial information (? a screening person) said the records showed I had been signed up for the service but by the time I had been referred to the second contact the records "changed" and there was amazingly no record of being added to the program; when challenged they were very indignant and did not want to deal with the problem after 2PM on a Friday afternoon; If a company is run like this do I really want to trust them with the security of my family? I AM NOW IN THE PROCESS OF WRITING THE BBB AND LOOKING FOR A NEW SECURITY COMPANY

They installed an alarm with two points of entries, four alarms and two batteries. They had a good installer. We have never had any chance to use them because we haven t had the alarm go off. We joined them on a deal and the price was reasonable.

Caren was the salesperson and she's very professional and nice. She was on time and very prompt in getting back with me. If it were not for the snag I would have switched to them.
Description of Work: I wanted to switch my monitoring service for my business to them. They said they couldn't do it unless I upgraded my panel because it was a "residential" panel. I didn't want to spend the extra money so I opted to stay with what I had.

Everyone was so courteous to work with. Our alarm system has been working great. We have had a few different occasions of when the alarm has gone off accidentally. I've had no problems with them though. They are very proactive and perform a lot of tests to constantly verify that everything is working correctly. They always seem to be very on top of things.
Description of Work: We had already had an ADT alarm system wired and set up for the house. We called ADT to come out and start up the program, and to make sure everything was still in working order. They did not charge an initial set-up fee. We only pay $40 a month for their services.

We had a good sales and installation experience with Brinks. One word of caution, however, if you use Vonage at home. Apparently Vonage causes communication problems with the Brinks alarm system. We've had two problems with the alarm not working in the month since we had it installed. We did ask during the sales presentation if Vonage would be a problem and were assured that it would not. However, when the service technician came to fix the communication problems we had, he determined that it was due to Vonage. Although he was able to fix the system, he advised us to expect more communication problems in the future (as long as we have Vonage). He also mentioned that at some point Brinks will likely charge us additional costs for service calls related to Vonage (even though we have the extended service plan that is suppose to cover all service calls).

I had ADT out to fix the motion detector and it was not fixed, triggering another false alarm. I called ADT and they said it would be 2 weeks before someone could come out in the evening. If they don't come in the evening I have to take another 1/2 day off of work because they give time estimates of 8-12 or 12-5. They also said they would charge me for the revisit. Beware if you have older equipment; it can be an unnerving experience, trying to get ADT to fix it. I am going to start shopping for a new alarm company now.
Description of Work: ADT has been monitoring my alarm for 5 years and until this month, I have not had any problems. I have had 4 false alarms due to a motion detector, 3 of which have occurred in the middle of the night. The police have come to my house several times.

If you have a contract with ADT, better have your attorney cancel the account.
Description of Work: ADT had a self renewing contract with my company. Over the years they had jacked the standard monitoring rate up to over $200 a month! I asked them to reduce the rate and they refused. I waited until the contract was over 60 days from renewing and sent them a cancellation letter. I called their salesman to let him know he had lost the account. His boss called to try to salvage the relationship by reducing my rate by a lousy ten bucks. I told them their competition was providing the same service for $40/month. So I told the lady we weren't interested in renewing. To this day, they still send us invoices for the service that they don't provide. When you call them to dispute, they deny ever receiving a letter and claim you have to wait another year.

THIS IS NOT ADT'S POLICY. THE AGREEMENT STATES CLEARLY THAT WE DO NOT RAISE RATES FOR THE FIRST YEAR. AFTER THAT IF WE GO UP, THE CUSTOMER HAS THE RIGHT TO SEND US WRITTEN NOTICE OF CANCELLATION AND WE EITHER HAVE TO KEEP THE OLD RATE OR LET THEM OUT OF THE CONTRACT. $200 IS NOT A REALISTIC FIGURE. OUR RESIDENTIAL AND SMALL BUSINESS RATES ARE IN THE $25-$25 PER MONTH RANGE EVEN FOR CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE BEEN WITH US 10, 20 YEARS OR MORE.

The experience with the salesperson went great. He made recommendations and didn't come across as a typical salesperson looking to sell you items that you really don't need. The experience with the installer did not go as well. The installer was on time. The installer forgot to leave the yard sign that was part of the package. The installer failed to properly secure a piece of vinyl siding that had to be moved for the installation. It took 3 additional phone calls to Brinks over a 2 week period to have both of those problems addressed. Overall, I am satisfied with the system and the experience of having it installed except for the installer's errors and time needed to correct them.
Description of Work: Brinks had a salesperson come out to make recommendations and provide an estimate. An installation was then scheduled and completed.

I was surprised at the detail with which the company worked, but after some minor adjustments I am totally satisfied with my security system. It is above and beyond anything I had imagined.

ADT could improve on a few things. Firstly, my secretary feels like she is not comfortable operating my hand held units so they could make them a little simpler to use. They also could touch base with me more regularly so that I did not have to track them down. That would be nice. Otherwise, I am fairly content with their services and I like the price I pay.
