The initial discussions were clear as to what I should expect and the company performed as they promised. Although their work is recent, I haven't had any more squirrels in the attic and they have a two year warranty on their work. Most of the expense was to prevent re-entry with the exhaust fan covers the biggest cost; however they look good and that was the primary entry point for the squirrels. The workmen showed up on time, worked carefully and cleaned up afterward. They were polite and professional. I recommend their work.
Description of Work: Investigated for squirrels in attic, set traps, removed squirrels, covered 2 roof exhaust fans, covered gable louvers & reinforced possible entry points at roof line.

Allen was very friendly when I called to see if he could come out to see if there was a rodent in my attic space. I had heard something screaching and banging in my attic like it was trapped and found A-1 wildlife on Angie's list. Allen was unable to come out the day I called, but came first thing the next day. By the time he arrived, the rodent had found a way out of my attic and was no longer trapped. Allen inspected all the areas in my attic and wrote up a quote for how to repair possible entryways into the space. To come out to the house, it was a charge of $150 regardless of any work being completed. To use the Angie's list coupon, you have to agree to allow Allen to complete all the work on his proposal. If there's anything that needs to be done inside or outside of your attic space, it will be included on the proposal. For example, my exterior dryer vent cover was listed on the proposal even though it wasn't open to my attic space. The cost of the work seemed very high so I chose not to have any of it done. Instead, I was able to staple new mesh wire (or you can use chicken wire) behind the gables on both sides of my house in the attic as well as under an old fan in the attic to prevent rodents from getting in. I have had no problems since and was glad I saved my money!
Description of Work: Inspection and possible removal of rodents in attic space.

Everything went well. I was surprised they found a bat stuck in one of the attic screens; was none too happy about the evidence of mice droppings found in the attic (though I was thinking it might have been a squirrel). They also advised me that too much stuff was in the attic, having been accumulated over many years; and that it was a breeding place for critters. Next priority is to get help in cleaning out the attic. I am most appreciative of their candid conversation and advice. They were cordial, professional, and effective. Footnotes: Don't panic in an emergency situation and just allow anybody to come. Do take your time to contact several providers, ask lots of questions, make notes about each contact you call; allow yourself time to be calm and reflective about each business contacted; review the notes and your thoughts later...perhaps the next day if possible, and allow your inner spirit to be your guide in the decision-making process.
Description of Work: Initially contacted company via the Yellow Pages in the telephone book (they were one of several companies contacted). The owner, Allen Eckman, suggested that I consult Angie's List before making a decision on which service provider to use. He was very helpful; without his suggestion, I would not have known to use Angie's List services. After talking with several wildlife control companies, Mecklenburg County's animal control division, and visiting Angie's List online, I decided to use A-1 Wildlife Control. The initial problem was noise in the attic. I wasn't sure what type of critter was in the attic, but Mr. Eckman was able to narrow it down by asking me specific questions about the type noise heard, time of day noise was experienced, what part of the attic the noise appeared to be in, etc. We discussed an inspection fee and scheduled an appointment for the inspection. A-1 Wildlife Control arrived within the time frame scheduled. We had a lengthy discussion about what needed to be done following the inspection. I was a bit skiddish about pricing initially because I had no prior experience with a wild-life control service. The owner and one of his technicians were professional in their demeanor, explained everything to me in detail, answered any questions I asked and reassured me concerning the process. Upon inspection of the attic, they found evidence of a mouse (or potentially mice), and a bat caught in the exterior wire lining of an attic venting rafter. They removed the bat. Upon inspection of the house and the crawl space, they explained that the crawl space vents were very old (probably original with the house) and they allowed easy access to critters due to big gaps and holes in the vents. They recommended that all 12 vents needed to be replaced with new temp controlled vents. They also recommended new louvre guard screens for the attic (potentially as a later addition, along with a rodent guard cover to be installed over the dryer port). Mr. Eckman explained what services his company would perform, and contacted a sub-contractor for me regarding actual pest control services to be performed. That same afternoon, a technician from Apex Exterminating, Inc. called me to schedule an appointment.

Allan and an assistant examined our attic and, while finding no animals at the time, identified tracks and droppings of mice and at least two kinds of animals. Alan explained his findings and his suggestions about trapping the animals, killing the mice and then sealing the house between fascia and roofing, the points of entry of the animals. Once the animals have been trapped or proven to no longer be in the attic, we intend to follow Allan's suggestion about sealing their entry points using sub-contractors he recommends.

We called A-1 because squirrels had gotten into our attic and the noise was driving us nuts. Allen found the holes they were using to get in, as well as electrical wiring they had chewed. He recommended an electrician and urged us to stop using a floodlight until we got the wires replaced. He then set two traps and before long had caught three squirrels. His repairman later patched up the holes and put grating on our roof vents to keep the critters out. Allen came back to check the work and make sure it was done right. Throughout the process, he was very professional and responsive, and he displayed a deep understanding of his craft. I'm confident we won't have any more trouble with squirrels in our attic.

My house is in a wooded area, which has caused issues with squirrels chewing on and entering the house. When I heard squirrels on the roof again, I called A-1 Wildlife Control to see what could be done to prevent damage to the house. Allen inspected the house and determined the most vulnerable area. He sealed the gaps between the brick siding and trim. Since that time, I have not heard another squirrel on the roof, nor chewing on the house.

Zee is friendly and very knowledgable on trapping and removing pest. Before we hired him he showed us evidence in our attic of where they were living and how they were getting into our house. Once the pest were trapped, repairs were done on the house to close their entry points. Overall, very happy with the service and would use them again should the need arise.

I never knew I had them but I was having my ceiling fans replaced and the worker noticed the bats. I called A-1 Wildlife and they came and trapped them in a way to where they could get out but not back in. They put wire up on the outside and the inside and cleaned up the feces that the bats had left. I also had raccoons in my yard that they trapped and removed. They did a really good job and I would recommend them!

Eddie set the traps and followed up promptly whenever a squirrel was caught (so no animals suffered while waiting to be picked up).
Description of Work: Eddie was our service technician and he was prompt, friendly, and thorough in getting out a family of four squirrels in our attic. We used another service previously, and they did not do a thorough job in preventing the re-entry of these animals. The price was very reasonable and the service was great.

There was a delay of a couple of weeks in completing the job due to extenuating circumstances on their end that I had no problem with. The work was completed in a timely and efficient manner. There have been previous comments about this company regarding expense and the necessity of having to pick up a couple of cigarette butts. While I did have to pick up one or two cigarettes on the first trip out, the individual who came out on the final trip did pick up after himself. Additionally, while this was not inexpensive, I would not want to have to do the job that they do and they did it in a professional, and thorough manner. I will not hesitate to call them again for any animal removal issues that may come up.
Description of Work: i called Allen regarding the presence of bats in the attic of my house. They came out the next day, did an inspection, and installed barriers to the bats and vent covers near the ground for other animals. They came back 4 weeks later to remove the temporary barrier, install the permanent one, and cleaned out the attic. They also replaced the damaged insulation with extra that had been left by a previous owner.

Technician arrived on the same day that I called. He did the first step and returned for the second and final step a few days later. (you wait a few days to make sure all the bats are gone). They were fast, friendly, and did a great job. We are very impressed with the workmanship.
Description of Work: Bats in the attic! Technician installed screens on all gable vents after bats escaped thru the release he made for them. He also caulked areas that needed it. Our neighbors had screens installed by a different company. Ours look a million times better - we are thrilled with their work

AVOID; A-1 is unsafe, unethical, rude, and does a bad job.A-1 left a trap, took our money, then neglected the trap for weeks. Because the bait had washed away, no squirrel was caught for roughly one month. The owner informed us that he hadn't been able to check the trap as frequently as usual because his employee--the man who made the service call into my home with my 8.5-month pregnant wife--had been arrested on felony charges and is in jail. The owner said that for a few days, we, therefore, needed to do that person's job of checking the trap. I explained that I couldn't because I was in the Labor and Delivery room and would be in the hospital with my wife and newborn for a few days. A-1 responded by removing the trap and keeping my money. So, one month later, we still have the squirrel--now clawing above where the newborn was to have slept--we have no trap, and we have given A-1 our money. And we had the pleasure of spending time on the phone with the owner, who couldn't have acted like a bigger jerk and who expected us to do his job when his employee was arrested.

Went very well. They were prompt, courteous, and if they're out in my mom's housing area, they call to see if they need to check the traps or anything else, and she really likes that.
Description of Work: This service was actually for my 88 year old mother who is also on Angie's List. If she's not happy - I'm not happy! She really liked them & the price. She had them check out her basement which she thought had a snake in it but turned out to be mice as the company said. She uses them now instead of her regular exterminating company.

Had bats that were located in one gable end of the attic, they were between the gables and an existing screen. A-1 came out on a Monday and provided the quote (Service Call to come out is $125.00). I agreed to the work and they were out that afternoon to install screens on the gables and on the end that the bats were at they installed a release valve. The release valve provides an exit for the bats but they can not come back in. Then on Thursday morning they came back out, all the bats were gone and they cleaned up the mess they had made. They also repaired some of the louvers that had come loose, removed the release valve and replace the interior screen. Note that I gave them an A for cost but due to time requirements to resolve the issue, I did not go out and get multiple quotes. The cost seemed reasonable to me for the work that they did.

I called the owner at noon, and by 4 PM, the owner had sent Ron out. Rob was very nice, professional, courteous, and down to earth. He told me what he was going to do. and he set the trap. It was very interesting how they set their traps. They set their trap out, and then bait it with a Little Debbie's Cherry Pie. He then gave me his personal number to call if the racoon gets in the trap, and he said to not worry about calling during the night. The racoon didn't go in the trap the first night, but on the second night he got caught in the tap. So I called Ron, and he said he would be out first thing in the morning. He kept his word and showed up first thing in the morning and took the racoon away. They also took measurement and made a custom cap for my chimney since the flu liner in my chimney didn't stick up past the crown of the chimney.
Description of Work: They came out set a trap for a racoon in the chimney, removed the animal once he was trapped, and put screening over the eves and a cap on the chimney. The price included a one time trip charge of $50, which included all of the trips that they made, which was 3 or 4, a custom made chimeny cap, capturing the racoon, and the screens.

Allen and his co-worker were great. They responded the same day I called for service. Yes, they were a bit late but that happens when you are chasing wildlife in peoples homes! After making sure there were no eggs in the nests they applied screening over the entry locations to stop it from happening in the future.

Allen is very good at what he does. We were getting animals in our attic, he came out and set traps on the roof and we caught 3 animals over a two week period and discovered we had large openings in our flashing that needed immediate repair to keep them out and removal of trees near the house. Allen had his guys come out over a couple days and place a covering around the roof line to seal the openings and prevent any future entry into the attic. He also said we should feel free to call him if we see any problems, he would come out.
