It was a somewhat unusual intermittent problem to diagnose and fix. Their techs made several trips and eventually the owner -Bud Mathews -was involved as well. They stayed with it and fixed it.

We have used this company for a wide variety of service needs over the past 3 years. We knew they did building/remodeling so we asked them to take on this project. We had the same construction workers for the entire project. The electrician and painters were contractors the company uses. We had also contracted the painters with B. Matthews previously; they are superb.. The materials seems first rate. They used a kiln-dried wood for the floor which allows the boards to be closer together. The screens are a product called Screen-Eze and should be easy to repair/switch out if needed. The end product is as solid as it could be. The crew gave us helpful advice and suggestions throughout the project. All calls and emails were answered promptly. Noah Matthews came to meet with us several times during the building process. Everyone who has seen the finished product is amazed at how very well it turned out. We are grateful there is such a fine company close by that provides a really wide variety of household repair services.
Description of Work: The company turned our back deck into a roofed and screened porch. They also rebuilt the porch floor.

Bud Matthews Service has been our go-to HVAC and appliances repair service for over 20 years, and each experience confirms our choice. The service technicians are skilled and prompt, and Bud personally consults on major purchases. We chose an American Standard Gas Pack and Air Conditioning unit and are again very pleased. The install team was on-time and productive, and the work easily passed county inspection. I highly recommend Bud Matthews Service.

We had a long list of items that needed to be done. This included removing a built in book case, installing some new cabinets, tile work around new cabinets and tub, installing new plugs and switch plates, building shelves in closets, building a workbench from the old bathroom vanities, installed kayak hoists, installing ceiling fans, removing doors and patching the door frames, installing french doors and pocket doors. When a shower enclosure didn't fit, they contacted the vendor and made arrangements for it to be returned. They were willing to tackle any request. All was done in professional manner with careful attention to details and making sure it was done to our satisfaction. I would hire them again and recommend to others.
Description of Work: The contractor refurbished a villa we are going to move into. This included the demolition of a bathroom. He built a wall and created a room with pocket doors, built shelves in closets and a dressing table with drawers. In addition he provided tile work when we replaced a shower with a tub and new kitchen cabinets.

We were very happy with the process and outcome. Noah was very responsive. If he couldn't answer his phone when I called, he quickly returned calls. Everyone was very polite and respectful. They did a great job. Noah made good suggestions for problems we had in our kitchen that needed addressing. He tried hard to keep our costs down as much as possible and looked for cheaper solutions when needed. I think they were very fair and professional. Will definitely use them again.

Repair people were punctual and cordial. They troubleshot a problem, trying different approaches when the first try didn't work to clear the line. They explained everything they were doing as they did it while we watched. They were very efficient and moved quickly to remove a huge wad of damp lint that was stubbornly stuck in the recesses of the rather long exhaust duct. We are and have always been pleased with their promptness, professionalism, courtesy, and quality of work. Highly recommend!

I'm very pleased with all aspects of this major renovation. It took a long time: from the beginning of April until the middle of June. But I've built two houses and know that coordinating employees' and subcontractors' time is far from easy, so I'm more than satisfied. The work is top quality. The employees/subcontractors almost always arrived when Mr. Matthews said they would (or even early), and if someone's work needed to be postponed, Mr. Matthews called the day or evening before to let me know not to expect them the next day. Generally everyone was very careful; the carpenters' van did damage one ornamental tree, but I have a promise from Mr. Matthews that he will be responsible for replacement of the tree. The carpenters didn't quite match the stain on the interior trim of some of the new windows, but when I told Mr. Matthews that my wife wasn't satisfied with that, the painters (with a better eye for color) corrected the problem the next time they were here. The carpenters left a mess scattered about, but at the end another man came out and thoroughly cleaned up after them without my first complaining to the company. Bud Matthews has done handyman work for us for at least twenty years, but this was the first time we used his company for a really substantial maintenance project. We shall certainly use him again for both handyman work and major projects like this one.

Bud Mathew responded to our call even though it was made during the weekend. Plumber came to the house, identified the problem, gave us a temporary fix and suggested we wait until Monday to fix it. (That saved us some money!) Bud Matthews called us first thing Monday morning and we scheduled a time for plumber to come. Plumber came in promptly and fixed the toilets. He was courteous, diligent and clearly explained the problems and what he was doing to fix them. Situation was solved. However, shortly after one of the toilet came loose again and plumber came back to reset it. No charges were incurred and plumber was apologetic about the issue. Once again he explained what had happened and how he was going to resolve it this time. It's been a few weeks and up to now we haven't had any other problems. We have used this company consistently throughout the years. They have always given us great service and we will continue to use them for future needs. They are trust worthy and reliable. My husband and I like that!

Very well. They were professional, honest, and cleaned-up after their work, and even took the shop-vacuum around the living room for good measure (we have a GSD - say no more)! Nice folks.
Description of Work: They hung two heavy pictures; put up a shelf; installed new exterior door-insulation strip; patched and speckled two holes in dry-wall in bedroom after we moving bedside sconce lights, so they are now ready for painting. I also asked them to mount grab-bars in the shower, but they advised against it, since the cultured marble shower unit had bowed away from wall.

He quoted $400 to replace the ice maker. $268 for the part and then labor. We bought the part online for $39 and installed it ourselves in under 20 minutes with no experience doing this. It snapped in and the old one snapped out. It was simple. Not worth $400

This was a genuine mistake on our behalf, we were quoted a price from our Decor distributor for a Decor specific icemaker - we were not made aware that the unit is compatible for the installation of a much cheaper Whirlpool manufactured version. I have since apologized to the customer and there will be no service charge for the call.

I've used Bud Matthews for many years. I began using them for appliance repair first at a previous residence. I don't remember when I began also use the plumbing side of the business, but I continue to use both. Obviously, I'm very happy with them overall or I wouldn't keep using them. I gave them an A for price, but I really don't know how their price compares to others. They do charge a trip fee that I think is high, but it's possible other businesses do, too. At least a couple of times, when on a call for an appliance repair, they recommended replacing the appliance instead of having it repaired. I appreciated that very much. Once I had a leak at my pressure tank (I'm on a well) on a weekend. I was in a panic because I didn't think I had a whole-house cutoff valve. I called the emergency number, and got a call back very quickly. Bud reminded me that the circuit breaker for the well *is* the whole house cutoff valve (duh! on my part :-)). He got someone out first thing Monday morning to fix it. I have found them to be exceptionally reliable. They come when they say they're going to come. The few times when they've run late, they have called *before* the scheduled time to let me know they were running late. They keep good records and the technicians remember things they've done before. The last service they did was to replace my hot water heater. It's too noisy, and I need to call them back, but since I just realized I have another leak that needs to be fixed, I will have them look at it when they come to repair the leak. Obviously, I intend to use them again.

He is relatively expensive, but he is good at his work. If I am not happy with his work, he comes back. I prefer to work with him inspite of my knowledge that he is more expensive than other people, because he does good work, and he has always given me good service and I have been using him for many years.

The technician initially came out to service our heat pump. We called a few different providers and Bud Matthews was able to come out the quickest, despite the roads being covered in snow and ice. We had no heat and other providers weren't going to be able to come until the following day at the earliest. The technician hypothesized the problem but called later when he remembered our gas logs had stopped working at the same time. The next morning he returned and after checking our gas level two more times, realized our propane tank meter had been frozen and instead of having 60% in our tank, we had 0! (It read 60% the afternoon before and initially the morning of the technician's return--my husband witnessed the same reading) Even after filling the tank, our system still wasn't working but we decided that with the estimated cost of the repair, plus the amount of propane we were using, it didn't make since to repair our heat pump and we decided to replace it with an electric system. We didn't use Bud Matthews for this because we shopped around and found a better price with "The Air Zone."

Our hot water heater had developed a slow leak. It was 20 years old and well past it's life expectancy so we knew we probably needed a new one. We called two companies to have someone take a look at it, and provide a quote for a new heater, if necessary. We left a message at the first company. Second company was Bud Matthews, and they were able to send someone out that afternoon to have a look at it, as they "had someone in the neighborhood already". The guy who came out (Scott?) was very nice. It seriously took him about 5 minutes to determine that we did indeed need a new hot water heater and provide a quote. I asked if I owed him anything and he said, "No. Just call the number on the card if you want to set up an appointment to get a new heater." I set up an appointment with Bud Matthews to get a new heater. The next day, the first company called back with a quote that was a couple hundred dollars better. We cancelled the appointment with Bud Matthews. A couple of days later, Bud Matthews called us up to say he would be charging us $76.50 for the diagnostic/quote visit and didn't want to work with us in the future. Seemed odd.

Response from Bud Matthews Service & Building Co Inc
Firstly let me apologize for any confusion. Generally speaking as a small family owned company we don’t offer free estimates on appliance repair or hot water heater repair, typically we come to the client’s house and either repair or replace the unit on the spot. In this particular instance it was obvious the unit needed to be replaced and we gave the client a quote to replace it, which at the time they accepted. If our plumber had realized the client was getting another quote he should have collected our one off trip charge of $76.50 (which we then deduct from the installation cost if we get the job) under the circumstances I will be happy to send the customer a $76.50 gift card for any future service work. Sincerely, Simon Harper (Office Manager)

Very professional and nice. Second trip was without trip charge since previous trip was so recent. Have used Bud Matthews for years and have always been very happy with results. I don't have to worry about quality with them. I also have used them for electrical, HVAC, and appliance repair. Bud's son(s) are now active with the company and I hope to continue to use them for many years. I just got a requested a second quote for deck pressure washing and staining from them and am hopeful about that too. They have different specialists for different areas (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, etc.) - this is a good company.

sub-zero fix was straight-forward, but Bud Matthews was only company we could find that would work on a gaggenau oven. they were punctual and quick, discovered broken part (which was not standard so had to be found/ordered), found replacement on some rare parts market, and fixed it within a couple days. Cost was reasonable...fairly expensive, but did include 3-4 labor hours and parts.

Unfortunately we did not receive an email from [member name removed], if we had, we certainly would of responded. [member name removed] fridge had lost all refrigerant and was therefore beyond repair, additionally the door gasket needed replacing. Like any service company we have a minimum charge for coming to a customers house - generally speaking if a tech opens`s his/her toolbox (and uses a tool or gauge) that automatically qualifies as a labor charge. I will speak to the tech for clarification and attempt to contact [member name removed]. Bud Matthews.

Josh was pleasant and respectful. He seemed totally honest. He assembled the tree quickly with no problem. I had no problem at all with Josh. The problem was that he apparently called the office because it took such a short amount of time and was told to still charge me the three hour minimum even though the job only took 30 minutes. I had some technical stuff that he could have done but he did not know how. That was not his fault. I could tell that he felt bad about the charge but it was out of his control. I feel taken advantage of by his boss. He had told me yesterday they would come this morning at 8:00am only to call later and tell me they couldn't come at all. After I had already called someone else, thy called back today to say that they would come after all but not till 3:00. After everything and the short amount of time it took, they should have been ashamed to charge me $225. for 30 minutes work. I would use Josh again but never call the Bud Matthews company again.

I feel so fortunate to have found Bud Matthews Service - I got the runaround from some other appliance repair companies in the area (no appointments for weeks and weeks, another stood me up for an appointment). I was at my wit's end and tried Bud Matthews - I was delighted when the phone was answered by a human being, who was polite and helpful and set up me up with an appointment right away. That human being, Simon, has continued to be my point person, and he's been responsive and helpful throughout. Paul, the technician who came to my house, was very knowledgable about the brand, and very professional. We are still figuring out whether the unit is worth repairing, and I'm grateful to them that they are being so candid about that instead of just having me pay to fix up a dying unit. I will be using Bud Matthews in the future for all my appliance repair needs, and anything else I can have them do - it's such a treat to have found a company that is a pleasure to deal with.
