Even though I purchased a "deal" from Angies List...The contractor that had offered the 'deal', decided that he needed additional moneys. I had said that the home was a story and a half, but this contractor (James Taylor Construction) charged extra for a lot of things, things that are standard for roofers. Like he said he needed an additional $104.00 because it was a steep roof. An additional $375.00 for Ridge vents. He said we had almost twice the roof that other roofers had quoted and wanted to charge an additional $2,316.00 for that, in all, the charges added up to an additional $2795.00 added to the $3999. already paid to Angies List, totaled $6794.00. Not quite the deal that was originally offered. I am therefore, requesting a refund from Angies list as getting in touch with these folks is very difficult. Phone not answered, e-mails take several days. I am generally very disappointed in this company. I am so disappointed in Angies list...I would like to request a refund for the membership charges. I will not be using this service again, if this is typical of the people you suggest. Incidentally, I am having an Arch roof 50 year CertainTeed roof put on this house for a total of $6486.00 that is $300.00 less that James Taylor Construction. Emily Haskins

Kevin was very nice to work with. He was efficient in scheduling an appointment to measure my windows and was helpful in the selection of the shutters and delivered and installed them on time. I would certainly recommend him.

Pros: I got a fair price for the whole job. The roof looks great and I have not noticed any leaks (and we have had significant rain). They also did a very good job of cleaning up the significant mess left from removal of the old roof. Cons: Communication with this company is poor. I am patient and thankfully wasn't in a hurry to have my old roof replaced, so I did not dog them with phone calls. I was told to pick a shingle color from the samples left at my house, but they never showed up, so I did email and ask that they pick the color closest to the original roof, which they did. They didn't show up on the appointment date but came two working days later with no notice. Bottom line: Fair price, quality work, but if you need or want to stay well-informed throughout the process, you will have to pester them.

I used a coupon that I had bought from Angie's List, $199.00 for $500.00 dollars worth of services. I bought shutters for 2 windows. It cost $300.00 above the coupon value of $500.00.

Communication was a little iffy at first-- I had purchased a "Big Deal" and the price estimates didn't match but we were able to get that cleared out. I understand that weather factors can make it hard to predict exact dates for service but there was still some confusion about exactly when the workers would be there and when they needed our choices for roofing colors, etc. We were going to be out of town the days when work ended up being performed and were surprised to find the truck and trailer left in our driveway when we returned. None of this was a real issue, but perhaps a little more clarity with phone calls or emails would have helped us understand the timeline. That said, the work was excellent, the roof looks great, and everything was cleaned up and I have no reservations about recommendations!

Roof installation went well, no complaints there. The tenants notified me that some outlets were not working properly after the install and thought their equipment overloaded the system. I called James Taylor, and they sent an electrician out at their expense to investigate. He fixed everything on the spot, and all is well now. Thanks!

Knowledgeable about is product and helped select the best window treatment for our rooms.

They were professional and took their time with the job. The work took about 3 days to complete. He was very responsive through email since I was working overseas at the time. I would totally recommend them.

They came out to measure and turns out my roof exceeds the 1800 square feet of shingles covered by the deal. They gave me a good price on the estimate for the additional cost but it out of my budget at this time. As I am not going forward with the service I have requested a refund from Angie's List. They were very professional, nice and up front. I would use them for future services.

Each stage of this work was done to a high standard of competence. Different crews worked on each task. Unfortunately, the whole job took close to three weeks because of the intervals between replacing the shingles, repairing the woodwork and replacing the gutters. We often did not know when the next stage would be completed and contacts with the company were not always replied to, or replied to promptly. The management needs to work a little harder on keeping their clients up-to-date with the progress, or lack of progress, on the job. That said, I would use this company again and recommend it to others, as long as they know they will need to be patient.

They did a great job. It came up in a home inspection 14 months later that a bath vent has been shingled over and he came out for free and installed the bath vent.

James Taylor Construction did a great job with custom making wooden blinds for my 5' X 5' windows. I'm usually expecting a quote more than what's advertised but they came through for the $199 exact quote and didn't try to sell me anything more. They even put a top border on that looks like crown molding. I got a really good deal.

They did a nice job and the gutters look great! The only thing that wasn't great was the lag time between buying the deal, getting the initial assessment, and then the work scheduled and complete. From purchase to installation the job was a total of 10 weeks. I'm very happy with the gutters I received, but think it's safe to anticipate a longer time between buying a deal and getting service when small companies get inundated with work generated by deals. I'd absolutely use James Taylor Construction in the future and I'm glad to see them get a boost in sales.

Bryan was awesome! My husband and I live in Florida and wanted to replace the windows in our NC home and Bryan worked with us via phone and email to ensure everything would be ready to go when we drove up the last week of Oct and they were great to work with --his team worked hard to meet the deadline and not only did they replace my windows they replace 2 doors for the 5K price....I was happy with the finished work and want to thank Bryan for his dedication to the finished touches and his help! BRYAN WAS AWESOME -hope you get him if you call for any work he will not let you down...THANK YOU FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND YOUR TEAM!!!!! --All the neighbors wanted to know who was working on our home due to the wonderful transformation they did....... He told me that he would be here today between 2 and 4 pm but he never showed up. I had already had problems getting into contact with him.

Went very smoothly. Contractor did everything as promised.

Overall, it went well. It did take a bit longer than I anticipated but I am very pleased with the final product.

They were supposed to have sent me some samples and he never has. He did come and measure everything, but I just haven't received the samples. I wrote him last on October 23rd, but I have yet to hear back from him. He was very nice initially but just wasn't responsive.

The guys were efficient and hard working. We had a bee problem in the attic, but they forged on and got the job done in about two days. The supervisor was diligent about checking in on the job, too, which was great.

I thought the company was very good - I might still contract with them if I can get a cheaper roofing material to fit my budget. I purchased the big deal hoping to get my roof redone but the size of my roof added over $3,000 to the cost of the roof so it was too much to consider. I really liked the way the company presented the quote however - lots of additional info/references included - they seem like a very good company....they were even very nice about the possibility that I would get a refund since the extra cost so so much.

I was very pleased with the job that James Taylor Construction did in replacing my roof. They completely scrapped off my old roof, replaced the felt paper and shingles, installed a new ridgevent, and replaced a significant amount of roof decking that had water damage. Ed and his team were very responsive and professional. My new roof looks great and they were able to complete it mostly in one day. The team completely cleaned up my yard and flower beds from roofing materials and swept over the ground with a magnet to pick up nails. Everything was clean once they had finished. They came back on the second day to finish installing the ridgevent. After looking over the completed roof, I had a few follow up items that I wanted them to fix and Ed was very responsive. The team came back out the next week and took care of the minor adjustments. Overall, James Taylor Construction did a great job and I would not hesitate to hire them again in the future.

After repeated calls, emails and no shows they finally came out to survey the work in question. Said he would follow up with a quote via email. Though I'm not surprised never heard from them again. This company may provide quality work but the extremely poor communication isn't very professional.
