Indoor Environmental Systems Inc. were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and professional. They were top notch. I just ended up getting less work done with a different vendor, who was cheaper. I would still call them for another estimate, if I needed it. They know their stuff.
Description of Work: I got an estimate from them to add insulation in the attic of my home.

The inspector was incredibly thorough and provided us with a detailed report and recommendation. Their project manager was responsive and able to clearly answer the questions that I had about their estimate. We had a tough time choosing between them and another company, but ultimately found that the other company's recommendations worked better for us and our situation. Still, it was not an easy decision and we would gladly recommend IES to any friends or family looking to have crawl space work estimated.
Description of Work: IES was one of several contractors that we had estimate what it would take to remediate the dampness and mold in our crawl space.

He arrived and outlined what the do. I asked questions about how we could reduce our energy usage. He did not respond to my questions at all. He said his purpose was to inspect our crawl space and attic and see what we needed. He did that, and then gave me a pretty standard and extensive bid to fix all the "problems" he found. The bid was $14,000 or $15,000. When I did not commit that day, I got calls from his home office asking me to commit and offering to answer any questions about their bid. I feel that the Big Deal was completely misleading. I felt dupes into paying a lot for an estimate for something that we do not need, didn't ask for, and that we could have gotten free.
Description of Work: Gave me an estimate for extensive cleaning and sealing services for our crawl space, ducts, and attic. He did not assess our energy usage and ways to save energy AT ALL!

Unfortunately, we had a miscommunication and we did not explain the details of our assessment of your home. The detailed picture report and recommendations we presented were based on your energy efficiency needs. When we inspected your home we first and foremost noticed some health and safety concerns (mold was found in the crawlspace and air ducts along with possible radon concerns), along will several insulation inefficiencies in both the crawlspace and attic. I have reviewed the details of our recommendations and I did not find a bid for $14,000 - $15,000, I did however find an estimate prioritizing the mold and radon issues and the energy efficiency updates that we recommend for $7600.00. We apologize that we did not present your findings in a way that explained all the energy efficiency benefits to you. We strive on meeting and exceeding all our customers needs and expectations.

The energy audit was very good -- the rep spent almost 3 hours at my house (and it's not a huge place). The problems they identified were things I can address in the future, so I did not hire the company to do any further work at this time.
Description of Work: I purchased a "Big Deal" home energy audit from them. Their representative examined my attic and crawlspace, and took pictures to document issues or problems, and the company then sent an audit "report" with pics and their recommendations for fixing these. I did not choose to proceed due to the cost.

This company has some very personable and hardworking employees, but this was the worst experience that I have ever had with work done in any of my homes. Re: the den floor After we had paid in full and once the smell of the paint dissipated, I realized that the mildew smell was still in the den and was comming from the tile floor which was exposed when the carpet was removed. The owner claims that because we consented to"low odor" paint, the paint would not have masked the smell of the mildew. This is false. Regardless, this company billed itself as mold remediators. They left us with a tile with moldy tar paper under the tile. Granted, the owner did not include removal of the tile or moldy tarpaper in his quote, but he let us with this mess without even mentioning it. They are mold remediators who uncovered the problem and left us with it without a word. Afterwards we had had a flooring company remove hre tile and mold and put in new flooring. It sure appears that the goal was to collect $10,000, rather than solve our problem. Re: the den paint. It is chipping off in clumps with almost no pressure. Re: the basement, the work helped the appearance of the basement. Re: the insulation. My husband checked and they shortted us several inches of insulation. Also, they claimed to seal the atticic, but left large portions of it unsealed. The company took our money and left with no mention of the need for service. They installed a dehumidifier in a crawl space. The dehumidfier was installed in such a way that the regular 6 month service could not be performed. After we paid in full, we obtained a service manual from another source to find out for the need for service. They also put it in a space that was open to the outdoor so that we were esentially attempting to dehumidifying the outside. After our complaints, they may have corrected this problem. But, we had to do independent research to find out about jthe problem.
Description of Work: They removed items from an art room and the basement to clean (wipe down) the items/contents of the art room and basement. This was what they called "contents management". It was a good chance to clean out the basement and the art room, both of which had been used as a storage rooms. They also removed the carpet from the art room and painted the bathroom in the art room. Originally, I wanted the company's help due to a mildews smell in our den. I was advised that there was mold on the natural wood panelling in the den. The owner's recommendation was to remove the old carpet in the den and to treat the walls. The owner also gave an estimate for painting the unpainted wood panelling in the den and advised that the wood would be wiped down with some substance that would stop mild/mildew. No testing was done. I believed the owner and I accepted the recommendation of removing the carpet from the room and painting the panelling to cure the problem. This company also recommended installing insulation in he attic and we agreed that we needed the insulation. They did the work.

We dropped the ball with this client. The email address bounced back and we never followed up....We did a through inspection, which included thermal image pictures. We have since forward the report, and called to apologize.

They made an appointment promptly, and they were on time for the appointment. Unfortunately, I personally could not attend, but my wife was at home and went through the audit and presentation with them. later, they provided a detailed report with descriptions, photos, recommendations, and detailed estimates. I have not decided which if any of their recommendations to act upon, but what I paid for - they did a good job.

Buyer beware. Although the audit results were impressive, what followed was mind blowing. The whole audit was geared to support the sales pitch of the auditor's products and services. Subsequently, three other environmental inspections revealed totaly different conclusions for existing conditions in my home.

It is company policy to answer all calls within two rings (happens most of the time) and document client calls. We have no record of this person calling. Christina who answers the phone and anyone else at our office, would have been able to answer questions about cupping floors (why and how to fix them) and scheduled for an appointment. sooooo, I am not sure what happen...

This company did a fine job in increasing my R factor from 19 to 48. Sealed my vents to the living area, cleaned the duct work, sealed the AC unit in attic, streamlined the duct work in attic for greater efficiency and finally added a layer of composite material to shield the heat in and cold out in winter and vice versa in summer to decrease energy usage. Thorough crew, on time, contientious.

Overall, it went well. There was a two-month delay getting my appointment on the calendar, but it was over the busy Thanksgiving/Christmas/New Years holiday season. When the company connected with me, however, things moved very quickly. Within a week, the technician arrived to inspect the house: roof attic, side attics, windows, doors, ducts, vents -- all three floors of it. He was professional and pleasant, and he was pleased to have me accompany him throughout the job, giving me a running commentary and answering all my questions. He took photographs of problem areas and verified his findings with an infrared camera. Within 48 hours, the results of his inspection and his recommendations, complete with highlighted illustrations from the photos he made were emailed to me by the project manager in a neat little report. An itemized quote was also sent, pricing each problem area, and I was free to pick and choose any or none of the offered remediations. From the scheduler to the technican to the project manager, it was a very positive and worthwhile energy audit of the home.
Description of Work: Please note the the amount spent was toward the redemption of a Big Deal offered to me and not the regular cost of an energy audit. The service performed was to inspect the house inside from top to bottom to determine where there was loss of heating/cooling and to suggest possible remediation for more efficient conservation of energy. The service also included inspection for problems with mold.

Member, Thank you for your review! I see we offered you two separate quotes with numerous services on each; both were prioritized and itemized. Its challenging to find a company with technicians that can professionally and efficiently do all the different trades we offer. Because we guarantee our work its important that we get it right the first time. My crew is so fantastic at what they do I pay them more then most trades. I have found that a great crew and support staff makes for happy clients. I am sorry we were not able to get you a price that met your needs. However we wish you the best of success with your energy efficiency and Indoor air quality needs. We were worried about mold as we had some leakage from upstairs showers. During the initial inspection, it was determined that the leaks were temporary (we had resealed drain gaskets), and there was no issue from the showers. However, the crawl space did show lots of evidence of mold. The suggested remedy for our air quality issues was to seal the crawlspace and especially seal up the wall that bordered the living space wall of the house (split level ranch). The intake ducts for the HVAC were completely unsealed and were drawing in air from the crawlspace. There was mold present all over this area. The estimate for was a solid day of work. The crew was there early. Some focused on cleaning the ducts while others worked on sealing the crawlspace. Everything was done exactly as planned. My only complaint which I relayed with final payment was that at the end of the work it was dark outside. There were a few rags, etc left behind.

I had a problem and didn't have any idea what was causing the issue. I had more than three firms, looking at it and giving me recommendations. Indoor environment was one of them and I took advantage of the coupon. They were thorough, courteous, and responsive. They gave me a break down on what the recommendations were and the cost done out for me. They shared each piece of work that they recommended and gave me some data to back up their recommendations. I felt really good with what they recommended; but when I went to the foundation repair system, it completely removed the water from the building. I didn’t need to do any further work. A lot of things that they recommended were something that I would do to the house that I would go into live in. I really want to try to optimize to manage the energy management and energy evaluation. It was an older building that's in the apartment that went down. I just did think from an investment standpoint to spend so much money on an older house. I didn't go through with what they recommended and it wasn't the cost that I had any problem with or the company; but I just made the business decision about what to do. They did the evaluation and very shortly they called me to follow-up and then gave me a written report that I reviewed. I spoke to them over the phone at least 2 or 3 times. I reviewed the report and had a lot of questions, and they were good at addressing them.

I got the whole house energy audit and air quality assessment and it was really just an appointment for them to recommend services and give an estimate. I was expecting some type of check for leaks and air quality but it was really just them seeing what services they provided that they could provide an estimate for - in my case insulation in attic and estimate was pretty expensive. I guess its a lesson learned for me to ask more questions on exactly what will be done.

IES was the third group that we had out and they were head and shoulders above the others. They completed a very detailed inspection and walk through and produced detailed reports and quotes.
