I called the Boer Brothers for an estimate on replacing the Heating and A/C units. They were one of seven companies we called for estimates. They were the first, and one of only three that informed us that the A/C units could be replaced without changing the heating units, which were still in fine condition. Bryan their representative came and examined our existing A/C units without any hard sell techniques. Having dealt with other companies, we found him to be a welcome change from the other company reps. The team that came to install the A/C units was professional, courteous and efficient. They laid down material to protect the carpeting and carried up and down pieces of the A/C units without scratching or damaging any surfaces. The started on time and finished in the early afternoon. The installation team was great, and we have agreed to a maintenance contract hoping that their maintenance crew will be a good as their installation crew.

Boer Brothers replaced a 14 year old AC unit that had stopped working. I called them for an estimate and they were out the next day. After reviewing the estimate I called to schedule the install and they installed it the next morning. The system works great and I a very confident they will stand behind their work. I will use them again.

I noticed that our upstairs a/c wasn't working very well. On the recommendation of some of our neighbors as well as Angie's List, we called Boer Brothers. John showed up at our door in under 15 minutes (really!) and took a look at our unit. Apparently, we were running low on refrigerant/ coolant, and he fixed the problem quickly. Our upstairs is cooling off already. We had a great experience: John was friendly and thorough, and was happy to explain to us what he did. He even provided some advice regarding how we can clean our outside units ourselves to ensure that they run efficiently.

House temp dropped 3degrees in 10 mins. everything is running great. Will use Boer Brothers from now on. And refer them to others

Trust me, these are the guys to go to in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area.My a.c. was out.I pulled a couple of names off Angie's List----the first with a service"coupon" came out and said we needed an entire new system for $5000. I couldn't believe that since I had a new indoor blower fan 5 years ago and new refrigeration coils two years ago and new power source . But he insisted too much corrosion and age to make a repair reasonable.Boer Bros. showed up after asking for a rundown of all the work and when it had been done on the system.After examining the system said the condition was basically OK and put in a new fan motor and said if system went down because of the compressor this season he would give half credit for fan.So $500 did it, not $5000. Trust these guys. A real problem in this community.,,,so many service people who think if you have a Chapel Hill address you've got money and are prepared to spend it. I don't have it. A new system would have sent me for a major loan. I'm glad this company is honest and respects folks.

Overall, they completed the work in less than a day and the unit was up and running by that afternoon.

We were impressed on the quality, professionalism, & quickness of the Boer Brother's HVAC technicians. They were prompt, & explained in detail all of the work that they were doing. In our case, John & Andy both were a pleasure to work with & we will be using their services again on a regular basis. Excellent work.

In November, I decided to have my furnace checked out before the heating season started. I called Boer Brothers at the recommendation of a friend and they came out to do the service. It turned out that our heat exchanged - a crucial component to a gas furnace - was cracked. They immediately had to shut off the gas as having a cracked heat exchanger can cause CO2 to leak into the house via the furnace. When they told me the heat exchanger was cracked, I had no idea of knowing what that meant, so they took the time to dismantle the furnace and show me the cracks, and all of the rust. Replacing the heat exchanger was not inexpensive, and I couldn't afford to pay for it right away, but they told me to call when it was convenient. The cost of checking out the furnace was $85.00, which they subtracted from the total amount once they did purchase and install the heat exchanger. They were very professional and very polite, and I will use them again each year to have my furnace/AC unit checked out. They performed the service about a month after the initial call, and true to their word, they did subtract the initial amount of the inspection.

I had an emergency with my heat pump. I heard it screeching on at 5 a.m. on a very cold morning. I turned it off, and frantically searched online for an HVAC repairman. I called two companies and left messages. Boer Brothers called me back as soon as they opened and had someone out to meet me in 20 minutes. They diagnosed the problem (fan), went to pick up the part and had it fixed by the end of the day.

They are unbelievable easy to deal with, and extremely honest. I feel like they would never rip anyone off, and I’d highly recommend to others.

So far, things have been fine. They were very professional.

My poor rating comes from my experiences after the initial service call. I had not heard from them by the end of the following week so I gave them a call to make sure I had not fallen through the cracks. One of the owners answered and said that he would forward my number to the person that does the estimates. I left a voice mail asking for a status and did not get a return call. I have tried to be very patient, even though I have not had heat since 12/30/10, figuring that this was an extremely busy time for them. I called again yesterday, 1/12/11, and the fellow that answered said that he would check with one of the owners and the individual that does the estimates and call me back. It is now the next day, 1/13, and I have not received that return call here at mid day. I have no idea the level of work that they perform, but my confidence has been totally shaken since they haven't returned calls much less initiated calls to me to advise me of the status of my service. I placed a call to One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning of Durham this morning. I have an appointment with them this afternoon at five. They have indicated that they can be installing my system tomorrow. Since my air conditioning went out at the very end of the summer being about the same age as my heating, I am planning on having a heat pump installed to provide for both. No matter what the situation or how busy, there is a minimal level of communication that should be expected from the provider. Regardless of the amount of the expenditure it should be shown that your business is appreciated...in this case there are a number of thousands of dollars involved even.

Overall it went great. I will definately use them again and recommend them to others.
