The technician did an electrical check of all components, checked the level of refrigerant and then flushed out the drainage system.

Nick arrived on time and very professional. Checking the system he found several items not correct. One was a booster to help the compressor motor but was instead attached to a capacitor. His guess was the last company didn't have the capacitor, which was weak, so installed the booster instead. Next was the condensation pump which was running constantly instead of cycling on/off as needed to pump the water outside. It was also not hooked up to cut off the unit. He had to install a new pump and got it hooked up properly. I look forward to using them in the future.

My first experience with Boer Brothers was a pleasant one.Mead,the service technician who came to check my AC was a nice person.He checked my freon level which was ok. Earlier,on 5/5/14,I had paid $50 to Comfort First to check my AC and his technician wanted $218 for 2 lbs.of freon on the spot .Ron,from Comfort First was polite but the way he hurriedly checked my freon level and declared that I need all that freon told me not to trust his judgement. I saw the quick dollar sign and decided to consult Boer Brothers .Mead told me that Duke Power was reducing my AC during peak hours,so it felt warm in the house when temperatures hit above 90 degrees which was the case. Also,he pointed out that I was doing wrong thing by closing all lower level vents in my split level home to direct all cold air upstairs where I spend most of the time during the day.I opened up all my vents reducing any resistance to flow of air and my AC is working well now. My experience reveals that I would call Boer Brothers any day over Comfort First. After paying Angie`s List $50 in coupon the first time,I did not find answer to my problem until I got Boer Brothers to come out to look at the problem.At first, I found that their $85 service call was high but looking back it saved me from the unnecessary replacement of the freon. I liked the way Mead took his time to check Duke Power`s intervention and condition of my vents.For these reasons $85 fee to Boer Brothers was worth it. My reasons for explaining all this is to caution people about buying these discount coupons.Eventhough you are getting someone from Angie`s List,some of them are not as good as Angie would like us to believe.Once these bad apples find a way to get to your door by offering a bait of discount coupon,they can do a lot of financial damage to you. Or, they create doubts in your mind that would lead you to initiate further consultations that would result in additional expenses. The lesson learned is even with Angie`s recommended people, when in doubt get additional opinions.

Boer Brothers are great. They worked with me on diagnosing a fairly complex problem, spotted it, and immediately worked to give me solutions on how to fix the system. They were prompt and super responsive. Everyone was very patient with us as they explained everything throughout the entire process (this was the first major hiccup in our AC unit we've experienced since homeownership). Very glad to have them as our go-to AC/Heat guys. When we got the new system installed, the guys were extremely good, making sure to do the job right. Thanks!

Outstanding!! John did a fantastic job. He found a capacitor that was marginal and changed it out since it would have failed soon. That is truely "preventative" maintenance! He also spend over an hour cleaning the coils on the outside units which turned out to be very dirty and thus not operating efficiently. No one had ever done this before and it was obvious....also the front office staff are very responsive and very nice and scheduled us at our convenience. Overall, the BEST heating/cooling contractor we have ever dealt with.

It went quite well--professional at all stages. Our heat system did not work and we called Boer Brothers since we had found them through Angie's List and used them once before when there was a minor problem they had quickly responded to and fixed. Again this time, a service person came to check it immediately; however, he found the problem was a major one. After discussing potential, we agreed we did not want to put major funds into the system which was at least more than 20 years old. He suggested that we should consult with Brian since we had a number of questions. In consultation with Brian who came to review our whole current setup, we decided to go from a system using propane to an electric heat pump system and he agreed to also connect our backup system to use the same distribution system. He also advised how we could put a portion of the unit in a protected area and move the outdoor unit to a much more convenient location. He was able to schedule us in about half the time he projected might be needed--less than a week. They came promptly and worked for two whole days, with one short visit on third day to finish a small part of the backup connection. The installers consulted regarded connecting our backup system and additional persons came to help with that on the second day. Brian advised that he felt some of the electrical and other connections with that needed replaced as well and so they did that, without additional costs.

When our 20 year old HVAC gave up we decided it was time to put in two units and zone the upstairs and downstairs separately. Since we were without adequate heat we needed to do this in an affordable,cost efficient and expedient manner. We received two quotes and Boer Brothers provided us a well thought out and reasonable quote and were very available for our questions and concerns. Once we decided to go ahead with the work, we were given very realistic estimates on how long it would take and the days that we would need to be at home. The workers showed up on time and were careful and considerate of our home. They took the time to do things the right way. The original estimate had been for a 3 day job and by staying late the 2nd day they were able to complete the work in 2 days instead. I'd recommend Boer Brothers to anyone looking to replace or install an HVAC unit.

It turned out to be much more complicated. They had to come two days and did not charge me anything extra. They worked particually hard to make sure the problem with corrected.

John was very professional and was sure to explain everything he did in an easy to understand manner. He also cleaned the filter on a different system. I would definitely use them again.

Great personality, fast service, one can't ask for more. Tech was here for maybe an hour and had us straightened out on a cold Saturday. Highly recommended.

I called Boer Brothers at 08:45 about a non-functioning A/C unit and they were at my home by 09:30. The technician assessed the problem and had the unit repaired within the hour. A competing company had offered a $7,000 dollar replacement HVAC as the only reasonable solution. I really appreciated Boer Brothers approach and professionalism. They were interested in diagnosing the problem, instead of trying to sell me a new unit.

My AC was not working 100% - didn't seem to be cooling the house as well as it had in previous summers. Called 8/13 to schedule a diagnostic appointment and was scheduled for first thing in the morning the next day. David arrived on time and went right to work. Initially I was scheduled for a diagnostic service call but after looking at my unit he realized it needed a PM so did that instead of billing me for the diagnostic call. Ended up needing to replace the capacitor as well as 2 pounds of coolant. I was in the house while he was doing the work and could immediately tell a difference in the temperature of the air being blown into the house. Great service, great price and David took the time to explain how my dual-zone system worked as well as why he determined the capacitor needed to be replaced. I will definitely call Boer Brothers back when I need more HVAC work done.

Rick showed up, tested all components on our older central A/C unit. Replaced electrical contactor. Gave the coils a thorough cleaning and indicated that had not been done in quite some time due to the buildup. He topped off the refrigerant and even put some pipe insulation on some copper piping that was rattling in the attic. All in all very good service.

We had Boer Bros. service the HVAC systems at two rental properties and at our own home. The charge was $89.00 per system--very reasonable. For all three appointments, with three different service technicians, we found them all to be prompt, courteous, professional and knowledgeable. They took the time to do a thorough assessment of the system. In one case, the tech found a problem that would have stopped the AC functioning within a short period of time, and that is the last thing you want during the current monsoon season! I am so glad to have discovered a company that is responsive and can be counted on to do a thorough job. This company clearly invests in keeping current on training and updating skills, and I couldn't recommend them more highly.

They were responsive and gave a good quote. They performed all work exactly as they said for the exact price they said. I had them install it when I was at work and never knew they were there except the A/C worked when I got home. They were easy to deal with for the entire process. I will use them again for any future A/C needs.

Brian called promptly in response to my email message. He was extremely professional and helpful. My particular service request did not align for me to use Boer Brothers services for this particular need, but Brian offered several suggestions to help me. Next time I need assistance, I will definitely call Boer Brothers again.

They came out and repaired an AC unit that wasn't working. They were very responsive and their rates are better than any I had compared.

They were very responsive in giving an estimate and explaining options. The installation went smoothly and cleanly. They also moved a gas line for a new stove. Everyone was very professional.

I have used these folks twice in the past 4 months (Not for the same issue). Reception was friendly and professional and the service professionals, in both cases, were truly an "A+" - they were quick to respond, prompt and in both cases found an affordable solution to what could have been a very pricey day for me. I would call them first for any future HVAC needs I may have!

I would recommend this company to anyone in the area that Boer Bros services. Jeff was intelligent and polite (took his shoes off before he came in the house!) He was very clear on the extra cost for the weekend service before he did the work, and to me, it was well worth it. Boer Bros has been given local awards for their service, even though they are not a huge company.

We have an old house built in 1924 that had an ancient, gigantic, asbestos-wrapped boiler in it. It actually worked fine for many years and we love radiator/steam heat, but it was time for a new one after we started having issues with it. Finding good boiler expertise in the South can be tricky, there are just not many options around. We talked with Boer Brothers to get an estimate, and they took extra time during our estimate process to explain the fundamentals of the current system we had, give us options on how to proceed, what the risk/challenges were, etc. We went with a much more modern/efficient system and had the Boer Brothers team design the system. They were great to work with (shout out to Rick, who is a "boiler whisperer"!), were very responsive, and made sure the job was done right. It is still mid-season, but we have seen a year-over-year reduction in heating bills of around 40% going with the new efficient system, and the house has been very cozy during some cold days. We liked working with them so much that we also had them install a larger efficient dehumidifier in our renovated basement, and they did a great job with that as well. Top marks for these guys!

Boer Brothers Company did excellent job,, They arrived on time and all work was done in accordance with existing codes,. The workmen were courteous and they worked efficiently and got the job done as promised in a day. They performed the work in a neat and professional manner. They swept and vacuumed the areas where they worked, anfd at the end of the day all debris was removed from the premises. They whole operation was turn key. They moved filing cabinets and boxes to allow them space to do the work and they put everything back in place when job was completed. They inspected work before they left and when we had a concern they stayed on later than planned to remedy the problem.

My neighbor had hired Boer Brothers for the same type of propane to natural gas conversion that I was undertaking, and had seemed pleased with the work. My own experience was mixed. In my case (but not my neighbor's) the job required, in addition to the technical work, obtaining a permit and obtaining an inspection from the county building department. PSNC will not establish a gas connection without the inspection tag. The quote from Boer was for the technical work only, and did not address the cost of the permitting and inspection. It took several days and some back-and-forth to convince them that their information was wrong; to finally talk to the right person; and to get a revised quote for the complete job including the inspection rather than just part of the job. It seemed strange that the homeowner, not the contractor, was the one required to research this with PSNC and the building department, and then persuade the contractor of the true scope of the work -- so at this point I had a lot less confidence in Boer than I had started out with. After the work was agreed upon, and after I informed them that the gas company had installed the line from the street, I started a campaign to get on their schedule. It took over two weeks to get someone to return my call and set a date, or even to tell me why a date could not be set. This phase was exasperating, and I came within a hare's breath of firing Boer at this time. Finally I somehow got through to one of the owners of the company, and a date was set. The technician showed up on schedule, and quickly, courteously, and competently performed the conversions. This job requires a followup visit after the gas company has set the meter. This happened with minor inconvenience. It was promised for 2:30 but they changed it to 5:30, without bothering to inform me of the change. So, I was kept waiting and looking out for them all afternoon. Again, the technician, a different one, was experienced, courteous and helpful. My bill was a bit high for the following reason: The estimate for converting the gas logs had been based on the technician's first experience of converting this model of gas logs, and he had described it as "very labor intensive" in the proposal. By the time he got to my logs, however, he had figured out how to do it very quickly -- he told me so, and I observed that he spent not more than 15 minutes on this phase of the work. My billing, however, was for the amount in the original quote, and did not reflect that far less time was spent than had originally been allowed for. I would use this company again in the future if it seemed a particularly good match to the particular type of job. For general HVAC work I have found better choices. Boer is technically competent but organizationally chaotic. That is better than organized but technically incompetent -- but it is possible to have both. I gave them a B but it is really a B--.
