Carolina Comfort

We returned home on Wednesday night from vacation to find that our central air was blowing only room temperature air - no cooling. We live in the mountains where it has been fairly cool compared to the rest of the country and had not yet put our air on for the season. I called on Thursday morning and they were able to come out on Monday. Luckily it was not an unbearably hot weekend. The technician arrived about 5 minutes late but got right to work. He discovered that we have a trip-switch on the outside unit and for some reason it had been "tripped" so we were not getting cold air. I picked Carolina Comfort because other reviews on Angie's List said they were honest. Those reviews were correct. The technician could have told us anything, but was honest, and told us about the switch that (being new home owners of this property) we didn't know about. We told him to check out the unit since we had to pay the minimum fee anyway, which he did, and nothing else needed attention. I would use Carolina Comfort again.

Neil was great - punctual, efficient, courteous. He checked over the unit, cleaned it, & made the necessary repair.

Called Carolina Comfort at the end of May to schedule an initial meeting to get an estimate on a new HVAC system. Doug Peery came to the house on June 13th, did an inspection, discussed options, and said he would send an estimate for a new system and some other options that he suggested. Emailed him June 25th asking if he was going to send an estimate. He did call me 6-28 and ask if he was still in the running, and I returned his call 6-29, stated that I was making a decision this weekend and would really like his estimate in the mix. Finally received the estimate at the end of the day on 6-30.

Very fast, arrived that day and fixed the problem in 2 hours. Very honest too, charging only for the refrigerant used. System started blowing at 78 degrees, when they were done it was at 58 degrees.

Doug scheduled us for an estimate almost immediately, and arrived at the house right on time. He was super excited about his work, and very knowledgeable. We loved his professionalism and positive attitude. We had a total of four of the highest ranking groups on Angie's List out to give estimates, and chose Carolina Comfort after reviewing all of the estimates, and what everyone had said, and how everyone presented themselves and their company. We scheduled them to come out and replace our system, and they were able to do it two days later. The installers arrived right on time, and they were very professional, quiet, polite, and efficient. I never once felt uncomfortable because I had service men in my house. They were also very understanding when I said I didn't want my heat pump taken out yet, because I didn't want to depend on heat strips for heat during the last cold snap, since it was so cold. They held off on taking out the heat pump until they could replace it. I was very, very appreciative of that, even though I know it was likely an inconvenience (and they never let on that it was, if it was.) We had a lot of questions, and everyone we spoke to was able to answer them in a way that we would understand. Everyone said the same things, too. So, if we asked one person one thing, another person in their company didn't contradict him, and confuse us. The entire company was very professional, and I would recommend them. We are setting up a service contract with them for them to maintain our new units. Thank you all for your hard work! We are really enjoying our climate controlled home!

The technicians have always performed the necessary repairs or maintenance with professionalism. Their fees are reasonable and they always arrive when expected. I am very pleased with the various services I have called on them to perform.

My gas furnace stopped working while I was at work. I returned to a cold house, too late (I thought) for anyone to come out & repair it. I called Carolina Comfort, leaving a message. I also emailed them. Much to my surprise I had a phone call about half an hour later, I received a phone call from the company (sorry can't recall the gentleman's name) asking if I needed someone to come out that evening. I said I could make it overnight. He assured me a technician would come out the next day. He also asked my cut off price in repair costs, so they would call before making the repair. Didn't hear from them the next day, but came home to a repaired furnace with the invoice in the mailbox. Wonderful repair & customer service! Thanks!

Sergey was actually able to come early. I had asked for someone who would know how to work on a Polaris and he seemed very knowledgeable. It went very well.

I had this company come out to estimate the cost of a new system if mine could not be repaired and they felt that I needed a new system because of leaks in my evaporator coils. I used my home warranty so they sent someone else who actually repaired the coils and it worked fine. I let Carolina Comfort know of it and they were effusive in their apology that they missed the chance to fix it and save me the cost of a new system. They have since refunded my money for the visit and used that episode as a teaching point in their training for their salesmen and their service personnel........It just doesn't get any better than this. I hope you will give them a chance to serve you as well. Joe Goldston

This review amends my July review of Carolina Comfort. Their first two visits in July failed to uncover the whole problem of equipment leaks in crawl space. My review on Angie's List of those visits resulted in the Vice President, David Rentas, calling to make it right. He apologized for their failure and said I was right about someone with more experience needed to solve the problem. He dispatched an expert, who did a thorough examination, discovering several problems, including water in the ducts. David described all the correction options for my consideration and said they would credit me for the previous charges that did not fix the problem. In view of the costs of repair, and considering the age of the equipment, I decided to get the entire system replaced. David put a whole crew on it to shorten the time I had to be without AC, and followed up with a visit by one of the technicians who put a camera into the ducts to make sure there were no remaining rodents in the system. That there were multiple problems with the equipment was probably difficult to discover, and I think the tendency was when something was found to believe that was it. So it was not an easy diagnosis, but I must say when they concentrated, they found all the causes of leakage and duct compromise. They worked very hard until late in the day in a hot confined space to get the job finished. Everyone was extremely courteous and helpful, a group of really nice guys, and David checked back frequently to monitor the progress. My take on the company is that they do good quality work, and when they do mess up, they are very responsive in correcting their error. They are proud of their well deserved reputation and willing to work hard to maintain it. Things turned out well, and I'm grateful for their help. I would certainly use their services again.

My furnace stopped working during a recent cold snap. I called the next morning and two techs arrived within three hours. They quickly diagnosed the problem, made the repair and performed additional checks and adjustments for one diagnostic price. I am signing a contract for future maintenance.

The estimate was more, but it end up being less, because it took less time then they thought it would take. Very nice people would use them again.

Honest and knowledgeable people. Will not sell you what you do not need and will correct what can be corrected instead. Will tell you all options to consider. Courteous and professional. Will not leave any mess. New furnace so much more efficient! As far as price, is any large amount considered in the excellent range?! If different estimates from different companies are considered and the price range is not that much different, go with the one with the best recommendations. If a price considered is very low in comparison to all the rest find out why before going ahead.

I've been pleased with Carolina Heating & Cooling. I found them on Angie's List. The fellow that came out was very nice and knowledgeable. I'm waiting for the estimate, which I should get today via email. I expected to get it back a little sooner. I called him yesterday and he apologized profusely for not getting it to me right away as he said. He was very polite and knowledgeable. I was happy with him.

The repairman arrived on the same day I called and worked after hours to repair my furnace. Instead of ordering a new part that created the problem, he was able to repair the part, saving over $300.00. I was very pleased with the service and the charge.

They installed the furnace and changed out some of the ducting, dug out more of the dirt in back of the new furnace (crawl space) and completed it all in two days. Their explanations on what they were doing was timely and easy to understand. They were careful about dirt being tracked in and they were extremely careful about arriving on time and leaving on time. They showed us everything we needed to know about the care and function of our new furnace and our new thermostat. When a few extra things had to be done they said that no, it would not be any extra money. They stuck to the estimate they gave us initially. They sent out an inspector to check on the work and answer any more questions we might have, and he went over the thermostat again as we had more questions after a few days of use. I highly recomment this company. They did an excellent job with a minimum of disturbance and inconvenience for us.

I found Carolina Comfort Heating and Cooling here on Angie's list. They had A and A+ in reviews and w/the Better Business Bureau. They've never had a complaint submitted. The technician was personable and did a great job! 24 emergency service is available.

The service and repair person were wonderful. He did a thorough inspection of my inside and outside unit as part of the annual inspection I requested. He found that all the refrigerant had leaked out. He found the leak, repaired it and refilled with refrigerant. Another problem came up after he left and he came right back to fix that. The office staff was very helpful and professional - overall a great experience. I will definitely continue my service agreement with this company.

Upon calling this company on Fri. 7/8/2011, I was greeted with a very friendly, helpful, and patient receptionist. That initial contact always gives me confidence on the probable customer service I can expect with a small business company. She immediately set up my appoints for an estimation on furnace repalcement and and annual maintenace service call. I was given choices on time of day for Mon. 7/11/2011. I chose 9am for the estimate and later morning for service. I was assured the person giving the estimate would be punctual and the service tech would arrive between 10am - 1pm (allowing unforeseen issues for the call scheduled previous to mine). The estimator arrived 9am on the dot and the service tech at 10:30am...I was very impressed and Carolina Comfort gained my respect and future business. Thank You Carolina Comfort and kudos to great service!

I have used this company for years. There was a slight issue with the original diagnosis and then delay in getting the repair done. However, when they got back to the house, they found the problem was not that the system needed a new blower motor; it was a capacitator, which cost me just over $100 vs. the original estimate of closer to $400. These people are honest, and I've never felt taken advantage of by them. They do the work and charge a fair price. And again, while this particular repair was a bit challenging as far as timeliness, that has never before been the situation in the probably 10+ years I've used them for furnace and air-conditiong repairs. I can recommend them with confidence.

They were great. It was not a small job but a large job. They were on time and they did the job very well. They were prompt. They called and kept in touch with me. They have offered me discount since then. I was quite surprised. They were a very good company. I would use them all the time.

I had a thermostat that had been incorrectly wired and installed by an electrician. Carolina Comfort came out within 1 day of my call and the service tech was incredibly nice and helpful and took the time to explain my entire heat system to me (I'm new to the area and was not familiar with local systems). I would definitely call them again if I needed HVAC work done
