Our 15-year-old heat pump in the attic finally gave up the ghost. We had three very reputable companies come out to give us estimates. Two of them wanted to leave the dead system in the attic and put an all-new system in the crawl space. We didn't like the idea since it would require running all new ducting, punching lots of new holes for vents in the floor, and leaving the old air ducts in place in the ceilings. Who wants two sets of air ducts in every room, especially when one set doesn't do anything? Bullman was the only company who said that they could put a new system in the attic. While they were at it, they could improve the existing attic ductwork to provide better air flow throughout the house. For comparison purposes, they also gave us an estimate for putting an all-new system in the crawl space. Three things led us to choose Bullman. One was their stress on quality. Another was price: when comparing similar systems, Bullman's estimate was the middle of the three. The clincher was that they could put it in the attic and improve the existing ductwork, without putting new vents throughout the house. We signed the contract and Bullman got right to work, obtaining the required permits and arranging for the electrician and inspector. We contacted the gas company to arrange for a buried tank and gas line hookup. Bullman's crew did the job over three days. The two primary installers were very professional, capable, and hard-working. And they were genuinely nice guys. We were VERY impressed with the quality of their work. They cleaned up after themselves every day, removing the old system, boxes, insulation, and other trash, and leaving the garage (where they were working) clean. Once the new system was fired up, we saw that the airflow in the back half of the house was indeed much better. I looked over the installation in the attic and it was clearly done to high standards. Everything was clean, neat, and well-engineered. Great job. The gas company took their time about coming out to install the tank and hook up the gas furnace, but since it was summer, there was no rush. Once it was done, Bullman had the inspector out and he gave it a big thumbs-up. I also have to mention Bullman's office staff. They were great: friendly, easy to work with, always returned calls or emails, kept us notified, and were genuinely concerned with keeping us happy. Overall: this was an outstanding installation. Very well engineered, excellent quality, excellent workmanship, great customer service, and a very fair price. Can't ask for more!
Description of Work: We had Bullman replace our old heat pump with a new heat pump and gas furnace.

Serviceman was very nice and professional. I asked him to change the filter in the crawl space and he came back and said that it did not need to be changed and his honesty was a nice surprise! He made a recommendation to replace the unit as well as suggesting that I should get other companies to take a look at it as well; the honesty was refreshing.

I was never contacted by Bullman to perform an estimate after calling twice.
Description of Work: I called Bullman Heating to schedule an appointment for an estimate for a gas furnace installation. The secretary told me one of their men would call back and schedule an appointment. After a week no one had called back. I called again and told the secretary no one had ever contacted me. She was very apologetic and assured me someone would call back and make an appointment. Its been about two weeks since my last call and still no one ever contacted me. If Bullman doesn't care enough to return a call to a potential customer I question their professionalism and reliability. Very disappointing. I hope this review helps them get their act together.

The number that was left on the message was the wrong phone number for the customer. We actually tried to contact him to set up the appointment several times but the phone would ring and ring with no message machine. It was after we saw this review on Angie's List that we concluded that the number we had may be wrong. The owner Branson Bullman called 411 and was able to get the correct number. At that time we called [Member Name Removed] immediately and set up an appointment. Branson Bullman went to [Member Name Removed] house and provided him with an estimate promptly.

I have a large two story brick home built in 1924. The heating in the home was a grossly inefficient oil burning furnace running radiators (the furnace was original to the home and had been converted from a coal burning system). There was no AC in the home. Heating the home in the winter would cost $6000 and up (and with rising oil prices, was getting more expensive each year). We got a quote for a traditional gas furnace system for $40,000 (price was so high because ductwork needed to be run all throughout the house in addition to the furnaces). Some friends suggested we look into a geothermal system since we were going to spend that much money. Jason (I believe that was his name - it's been a year) came over and was very thorough in going through the house. Estimate was $52,000 for two units -- one to run the downstairs and one for the upstairs. He was very precise in letting us know that our backyard would be pretty much a vast dirt yard when they finished and the quote did not include reseeding or relandscaping. Even though it was more expensive and would involve further expense in reseeding the lawn, we went with the geothermal system because there's a 30% tax credit which when taken into account actually made the system cheaper than the traditional one. We also felt that the long term lower costs for monthly heating would pay for the system and difference in the long run (we're in our 50's and, God willing, plan on being in this home another 30 years or more until we move on). The whole project took about 4 weeks. The team worked very cleanly. Every room in the home had at least two air ducts put in it (one intake and one out) either in the floor (1st floor) or ceiling (2nd floor). The team cleaned up the dust and mess every day. They had to run electrical and water lines up to the attic and did this through closet spaces which made it inconspicuous. When they completed the work on time and on budget, we were happy with the work and the professionalism. Of course, the real test was how the system would actually work heating the home in the winter. Now, one year and one brutal winter later, we're thrilled with our new geothermal system. There are no hot and cold spots in the house. The heating is extremely even with no noticeable change in temperature walking from room to room (which in an old house like this is an accomplishment). The geothermal system does have trouble keeping the home warm when it gets below 30 degrees (this is clearly stated in their manual) so each unit includes a traditional gas furnace that you can switch to using the wall control units. When it got extremely cold this winter, we'd switch to the traditional gas furnace and the house was quite toasty within minutes. The best part? Our heating bill at its worst this winter was around $250 / month and for most colder months have been under $200. In mild spring and autumn months, its under $100. We've realized a significant reduction in heating costs immediately. And to top it off, when we did our taxes this year, we're getting an extra nice refund due to the geothermal tax credit. I highly recommend Bullman Heating and their geothermal system. It's a higher upfront cost, but in the long run it will pay off.

Went great. Tim showed up ontime and started to work immediately. Completed work on basement unit then moved outside to check Freon levels on both up and down units. All was fine. Went into the attic and cleaned coil on attic unit and found that the drain was stopped up. Great he found it as the A/C would have shut down once the water level rose in the unit.

I called Bullman on December 30th, the guy who answered the phone told me he would visit my property the next day. I explained to him that I wanted a new dual fuel HVAC system in a recently purchased home, he told me how Bullman were local and the best company in the area. I chased the quote for days and eventually gave up. Update as of 1/30/14 After detailing my experience on Angies List a senior manager from Bullman came to my house unannounced to personally apologize for the service I had received, this was a genuine gesture from a conscientious company. I was also told by another contractor working on my house that Bullman were the best HVAC company in town so because of this I gave Bullman another chance to quote for my business, I had a written quote before the end of the day. Bullman have superior equipment to any other company in town and the price they gave me appeared to be good value for money, now the test will be to see if they provide a seamless installation. Update as of 3/15/14 I am so pleased I changed my mind and let Bullman do the work, it has been a pleasure to have the fitters at my home, they work well with the other contractors and put long hours in, I can highly recommend Bullman. After the initial hiccup I can't fault them at all.

They seem very good at their service and if you have a problem they fix anything needed. They stand behind their work and I have used them for around 10 years now. They always do the work right and seem to have good readings as well. They charge a reasonable amount and they are very professional with the work. They come with all the proper equipment needed. They are prompt when service is requested. They stand behind their work.
Description of Work: They installed a replacement system and they took over the service as well in the past. They replaced the system about three years ago. They checked the system, cleaned the filter, and they checked to make sure it was at the right BTU's most recently. This is for a geothermal system. I have a maintenance agreement with them.

The work went extremely well. The work was started the same week we were given an estimate and completed within 2 days. The workers were courteous and thorough. We had very little disruption in our lives while the work was being done. Because our heat pump had stopped working, we were really pleased to get the work done so quickly and done so well. When we asked for a follow up visit to assure us things were working as expected, Bullman responded the same day. We signed up for a semiannual service plan because we have confidence in their staff.

I ran into them at a home show and talked to them about some of the options that I was thinking of doing in my house. They were very helpful and educating me so that I could make a good decision. They gave me two to three proposal options for different systems. Once I decided the installation was very simple. They came and took the old furnace out and disposed the material. They put in the new furnace in the time that they told me that they would. They were clean, polite and put boots on their feet every time they came into my house so I was very pleased. I would refer them to the others.

The work was excellent and the workers did a very professional job. But the work, to our favor, was underbid and took 3 full days (with the last day requiring overtime) because the time the job took was grossly underestimated. If we did not have hydronic heating on our main floor, we most likely would have had to stay elsewhere because the house got quite cold during this winter weather. In addition, the workers arrived late every morning.
Description of Work: We had three condensing units moved from one side of our home to the other, to greatly reduce the noise by the master and guest bedrooms. This work also entailed new refrigerant lines, electrical work, etc. (My husband prepared the site.)

Every time the heat came on the house smelled like mold/musty and the sound of the air passing through the grills was very loud. Had to turn up the sound on the TV/radio when heat came on; also used to wake me up at night especially when using the auxillary heat. Three other companies told me that there was nothing they could do about the air noise but they could replace the old duct board. And, their estimates were much higher than Bullman's.
Description of Work: Replaced 20 year old black with mold ductboard and exposed insulation on two air intake boxes with metal boxes, new box for ducts to connect to, new grills, and adjusted velocity of air flow so it no longer sounded like the North Wind.
