Appliance Zen

Sebastian, the owner, was absolutely amazing. He was very fairly priced and was able to get the replacement part without charge because a previous repairman had installed the part incorrectly. He was very personable and even taught me how to do basic maintenance like cleaning the fans in the fridge on my own to avoid calling repairmen in the future. He was extremely knowledgeable about vintage appliances as my freezer is very old. I was very impressed and he was an extremely cool guy.

Sabastian was great. He answers the phone when you call him. He calls 30 minutes before the appointment and lets you know he's coming. He confirms the directions. He shows up on time. Sabastian came back. He installed the part; de-iced the freezer; cleaned up after himself, etc. He patiently answered all of my questions and advised me of the one-year guarantee. I was impressed with Sabastian's professionalism, honesty, timeliness, courtesy and knowledge. I highly recommend Appliance Zen.

Fine. He didn't quite make his promised times, but it was an acceptable performance for my purposes.

Sabastian was prompt, courteous and replaced the missing part in a timely manner.

Love the fact that he picked up the phone when I called. Was able to come right out. Great at figuring out what was wrong. We got bogged down when he had to order the part. Had to call him in a couple of weeks. He responded to us and then we felt we had to call back again to know what was going on. When he scheduled his visit to come out he did exactly what he said he would do, when he said he was going to do it. I like this guy and like his work. I would and will call him again.

He was very personable and intelligent.

He could not repair our dryer because an electrician was needed to repair the outlet; ther was nothing wrong with the dryer. We paid the service charge and it can be credited to us i we need him again in the next year for a repair.

Of course I would have loved to have the items fixed. However, if the cost is too high it is probably not prudent. I appreciated his honesty and I also thought it was great that I didn't get charged for the second service call.

The owner showed up as soon as I called him, assessed the problem (incorrectly as I found out later), told me he needed to order the part and would have it in a few days and would call me to schedule a service call. Only hours after he left, the frig started leaking both inside and out onto my wooden kitchen floor, which was fine b/f he got here to look at the ice maker. I called him and he told me to put some towels on the floor and he would be back tomorrow. Never heard drom him again. Refused to return my $65.00.

I normally do not do reviews. But, I am hoping to save someone else the trouble that I have gone through. I should have known by my first conversation with Appliance Zen, that it was not going to be a good experience. Weird from the beginning, rambling on but some incident that had just happened to him. Anyway, I scheduled them to come out and look at my dishwasher that had not been cleaning my dishes. They come out and tell me I need new spraying arms, they are clogged up. Ok, ordered new sprayers and they arrived a week later. Had to call to see if they had come in yet and reschedule to come out to install the new sprayers. One week later, dishwasher not cleaning dishes again. Call them to come back out because they do warranty their work. They came out again to tell me the pipe is clogged and they need to run a "special" cleaner through the dishwasher to clean it out. Over one week later special cleaner finally arrives. (This special cleaner can actually be found at Wal-Mart!! Major disappointment.) Still not cleaning my dishes. Called to come back out. Sprayer arms are clogged again?? Not sure how this happened as I had only been able to use my dishwasher one time. They said it was a manufacture issue and they would contact them to send new ones again. They said it would take 10 days with the holidays. Still waiting for them to arrive. It has been over 6 weeks just trying to get my dishwasher working! Update: I really appreciate their response to my review. It has just been such a long drawn out process. I truly appreciate them ordering a new handle for my microwave. That was above and beyond and it means a lot. Looking forward to my dishwasher working soon! Update #2: My dishwasher has been fixed! They were able to come out again and remove some broken pieces of dishes that had somehow managed to find their way into the sprayer arms. Very thankful for the new microwave handle. That was a very nice gesture.

I called because my Maytag washing machine was starting in mid-cycle, agitating before any water was in the drum. Sebastian quickly diagnosed the problem, checked on part availability, and scheduled to return the next day if the part was in. While he was here, I also asked him about cleaning the dryer vent, and he said he could do that when he returned with the washer part. The washer was fixed very quickly, the dryer cleaning was very thorough, cleaning inside the dryer as well as the external ductwork, and the price for both was quite reasonable, with discounts for multiple services and for being an Angie's list member. It took a few days for the first appointment, but I wasn't in a rush, and if it had been an emergency, I am fairly sure they would have worked me in.. Both times, Sebastian arrived in the agreed-upon time frame. I was called ahead to make sure I was home, and he arrived within about 20 minutes of the call.

He made an appt for between 3pm & 5pm. At approx 4:15 he called to say he was leaving his appt and would arrive in 30 minutes. In about 45 min he called again and was further delayed by the directions on his GPS. He called 3 or 4 more times and finally arrived around 5pm. While we do live on top of a mountain, the directions include only 2 turns once you exit I-240 so it is very rare for people to get lost. He finally arrived and checked the dryer and fridge/freezer. He diagnosed the problems, ordered parts and said he would call when the parts came in. About 2 weeks later I called on a Monday and Sebastian said the parts had just come in the previous Friday. He made an appt for the following Wed at 1pm. On Wed he called and left a message that, once again, he was running late. We could not understand the rest of the message. We have not heard from him since and we do not feel it is up to us to chase him down. Like so many vendors in WNC these days this seems to be the norm.

The work was accomplished very quickly.

Due to a power surge, our refrigerator which was only 9 years old, stopped working. Fortunately we have a friend who is an electrican and he was able to locate the problem before we called Appliance Zen. What is commonly called the "motherboard", was completely fried due to a power surge we had a few days before. We had noticed the lights blinking, but we never lost power. Obviously it was enough to damage the refrigerator. The refrigerator went out on Saturday night. Monday morning I called Sebastian at Appliance Zen and told him the part we found that was bad. Sebastian was here in a matter of 3 hours on Monday with the replacement part along with another part that typically burns out along with the motherboard. He was very professional and neat and had the appliance going in a matter of minutes. I am so glad I took the chance and called him based only on the reviews in Angie's List. Anyone who has experienced appliance failure's knows that if you go online or call Sears or any appliance company, you are going to wait at least a week before the appliance is fixed,(if it's fixed). I checked the Sears website since this was a Kenmore appliance and it was going to be Wednesday for the appointment. From previous experience I knew once they got here the part or parts would have to be ordered. I was very impressed with the fast response from Appliance Zen. I will surely hire Appliance Zen the next time I need an appliance repaired. I wasn't even aware of the $25.00 discount due to the fact that I found his business on Anglie's List. Sebastian was honest enough to tell me about the discount and applied it to the cost. I thought his bill was very fair.

The technician came on time and immediately knew what the problem was. He could have told me I needed parts, but did not. It took him less than an hour to solve my problem that I thought would cost me over $100 and take a week! I highly recommend them!

My initial good review is below. I've updated it because the repair failed within the month and he was impossible to get to return my phone call let alone come repair it. I wish I'd written down how many times I called him but I'm certain it was at least 5 over the course of a month minimum. One time he called my husband and said he was waiting on a part and I thought we were on track then we never heard from him again and I had to start calling all over again. One major complaint I had was he called my husband and not me at either of the numbers I gave him every time I called. (and we were on good terms at the time). Another was when I finally got his assistant one day, he insisted on me giving him all the info over again including the manufacturer and model of the dryer (he asked me for the part number which I had no idea). I was frank with him that I was very frustrated because Sebastian never returned my phone calls and he assured me that he'd be the one I'd deal with. He did call back that day, but the problem didn't get resolved and the next time I called and got him, he asked me all of that stuff over again like they never wrote anything down! I told him that I hoped he could look it up since we'd been over it before. Sebastian did come out eventually and repair the dryer again at no cost (it was under his guarantee) and if he'd done it promptly, I'd have given him a great review, but let's face it, when we pay someone to repair something we expect them to stand behind their work and he absolutely refused to return my many calls. It was terribly frustrating. We were lucky that we came into a loaner dryer, but the broken one sat in the middle of my laundry room for entirely too long! Original review: I called in the morning to report our dryer not heating. Sebastian was suffering from a migraine but promised to call as soon as he was looking at his schedule to let me know when he could come out (same day). He later let me know what time he could be here. Was quick in his assessment and repair. Double checked the dryer before he left and found that the new thermostat was defective, so he took it apart and put in another. I was very happy that he could make it the same day I called despite really not feeling well. His pricing seemed fair and he said he gave us a discount on his labor price because he felt like he hadn't been professional that morning since he wasn't feeling well (I didn't blame him and was impressed he was even working with a migraine). He also allowed us to use the Angie's list coupon. Couldn't really have asked for more.

I was not very happy with him. He diagnosed it as a certain problem on the second time and it was not fixed. I called and he was not in and it has been two weeks and I haven't heard from him. I am really disappointed that he has not returned my call. The pricing was fair. At this point I would not use him again.

My washing machine broke down over the weekend, so I called Sabastian. He set up a time frame for this afternoon and called ahead to confirm that I'd be at home. He quickly diagnosed the problem and determined that the repairs could be done but he didn't feel that they were worth doing due to the age of the machine and the potential for more problems down the line. He gave me a recommendation for where to purchase a replacement. I appreciated his honesty in not doing repairs that he felt were more expensive than it would've been worth.

I found them on Angie’s List. I would use them again in the future if needed.

He arrived within a couple hours of making the appointment, diagnosed the problem, gave me an estimate, and was back in a week to install it. He and his employee finished in a matter of minutes. Before the Zen guys arrived for the icemaker repair, the pool guy raised a white flag of surrender on fixing my pool heater and suggested that I call a plumber. I shared that information with Sabastian, who said, "Oh, I can fix that." 15 minutes later, the heater was working. He wouldn't let me pay him extra for his time. Sabastian is brilliant, resourceful, prompt, polite, professional, and has a great sense of humor.

I'm 70 years old. I have NEVER dealtwith a company as honest as Sebastian's Appliance Zen.I recommend him without reservation.If you need an appliance serviced call this knowledgeable,fair and honest company, you will not be disappointed.

Sebastian was prompt and professional. He arrived when he promised and fixed the broken oven door. I asked him about our frig that was on its last leg . He took a look at it and diagnosed the problem that had eluded two other repairmen. He ordered the part and installed it the day it arrived. We has a very positive experience.

we had a brand new refrigerator which was damaged in several different ways during shipping--cosmetically and functionally. apparently it had fallen on its face somewhere along the way. sebastian did a terrific job diagnosing and fixing the problem over multiple visits (we were waiting on parts). we felt very comfortable having him in our home, he's competent, friendly and a delight to work with, and EXTREMELY knowledgeable. if we have problems with any of our appliances in the future, zen appliance will be our first and only call.

The specialist was on time and very informative. He answered and questions and concerns I may have had as well. He went out of his way to make sure the job was done right.
