Service was good, parts were under warranty and we paid service call and coolant. They also changed the filter and did our 6 month maintenance. Service man was prompt and friendly
Description of Work: We have a contract for service every 6 month. Had an emergency with our air conditioning freezing up. Response was very good as it happened after hours. We got a discount on the call because of our service contract. This last call for the air conditioning was a need to replace the compressor and several other parts

Danny came to give my fourth estimate after work one day. He spent over 3 hours with me discussing options and was the only person who actually performed a Manual J test at the time of my estimate and recommended the appropriate sized unit. I appreciated the fact that he is not on commission and cared more about providing me good service and information than a sale. I had not intended to replace my 15-year-old furnace and others who had given me estimates said I was likely to get at least a few more years out of it. Danny would not guarantee the furnace's life though it looked good on the outside and suggested I look at the financing and options for a full system which would qualify for 3 years of no interest and the Progress Energy rebate, tax credit, and improve the efficiency of my heat pump along with the heat pump alone. After mulling over my estimates, I decided to have Mountain Air service my furnace and check the condition -- Danny said there would be no charge if I decided to replace the furnace, so I had nothing to lose. I have owned my home for 2 years and had never had the furnace serviced and didn't know the history of service from the previous owner. The furnace was drawing too much electricity, the limit switch was bad making the chance of a duct fire a real possibility, and when I called my gas company they informed me my propane usage had increased a great deal this year as compared to last. Caleb who checked my furnace did a beautiful job explaining everything to me and left the furnace turned off so I would not be at risk. Danny left me with written comparisons of the different units I was considering and said he would move other jobs around so my install could be done on the two days I was off after working the weekend. Tony did a beautiful job installing everything, worked hard and put in a long day. The electrical contractor who did not ground my original gas line had to come back so I would pass my electrical county inspection, but everything else passed and Danny called/e-mailed me answers to questions and made sure the additional ground was installed and inspected in a timely manner. He even sent a hand-written note thanking me for my business after everything was completed. I have since had a question about the normal condensation of the heat pump, and he was quick to answer it. All of the men who did my install were professional, friendly, kind to my pets, wore shoe covers in my home, and answered any question I had. Tony double-checked my gas connections and I was shown how to change my new filter. Danny also submitted my paperwork for my rebate and provided me a certificate for the tax credit. I feel I chose an excellent company to provide my new Trane heat pump and gas furnace. While I am going to have to tighten my belt to manage the extra payment for 3 years, I am grateful for 0% interest, the improved efficiency of my new system and the fair price Danny provided to help make this upgrade to my home affordable.
Description of Work: My home did not have central air and my propane furnace was 15 years old. Mountain Air Mechanical serviced my furnace and upon my learning it was a fire hazard, I decided to replace it along with adding a heat pump so I would have central air and duel fuel heat.

When our ancient gas heater was faltering, I contacted Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors based on their very positive reviews in Angie's List. We were also in need of air conditioning which had not been installed on the 1st floor our our house. They performed a thorough evaluation of our needs and presented us several options to choose from. What I liked best was the time that the sales rep spent explaining the various systems which was extremely helpful in making an informed decision. The order was placed that day and the installation was scheduled within 3 business days. The installers were prompt and very professional. They installed everything, and when the newly installed heat pump did not work with the wireless thermostat, they ordered and installed another heat pump that did. They also took extra time to make sure that I knew how to use the wireless thermostat. They made this a very positive experience.

They service several different counties in the area. They gave us several different estimate so that I could choose what unit would best suit our needs within what we were willing to pay for. Danny Dill, the person they sent out ,was very professional and gave me a variety of options without being the least bit pushy. He answers questions and if he doesn’t have any answer, he will find the information and get back to me. I had a very unusual question and they didn’t deal with it on an everyday basis. He looked at it, got the information and got back to me. He came out and evaluated our place to determine the size of the unit I needed. He gave me a number of options within the size of the unit for different equipment and prices. It was a mobile home there were a few issues that was a little different. I asked questions that were not the norm. He looked into it and got back to me with the information. I found them through Angie’s List. The repair did not cost anything because it was a factory defect. One of their people had a problem one morning. He didn’t let them know and I had somebody waiting there to let him in. When I had the problem it was a factory defect; a wire that was pinched when they were putting the unit together. I was going to be up there without any heat. They did send out somebody immediately that day. They figured out a way to make it work till they could get the pieces in. They then came back and replaced the faulty pieces. When I was in a lurch they came right out. They made sure that I wasn’t without heat.

The company was very prompt. Considering it was a cold February morning when I called them and the heat was out on the first floor, we were very happy they came by later that day to diagnose the problem. I received a call very early the next morning. They said they found the part and could come later in the day to fix the heat pump, which they did. The heat is working fine now. My primary concern is that my invoice just says the total price. It does not break down how much the part was and how much they charged for labor or other items. This leaves we wondering if I got screwed out of hundreds of dollars. I wish they had been more transparent about what they charged and why. I would use them again, but insist that they disclose more information next time (although I hope there isn't a next time!). I am updating this review to reflect the provider response. As a customer, transparency is critical. Having a "fixed rate pricing" billing method is not one I am comfortable with. It certainly doesn't give me peace of mind. If my costs don't increase if the company goes over the allotted time, that essentially means I've purchased a de facto insurance policy against my wishes. I know this works for some people, but I prefer to know what I am being charged exactly, and this company isn't willing to spell that out so I can make an informed decision. The service manager did tell me how much it would be and what part was being replaced. And that is all! No breakdown of charges. There was no discussion of how they diagnosed the problem or alternative ways of fixing it. Even my doctor's office is more transparent. What bothers me the most is this company, in their provider response, announces that I used a $25 off coupon on Angie's List. That's shameful. They should not be commenting on aspects of my personal transaction like that. Therefore I have dropped their professionalism rating to D, and I've also increased the quality rating to A because I did not have any problems with the furnace the remainder of the winter. I pay for Angie's List to get honest reviews from customers, not to hear defensive and unprofessional responses from the company.

Response from Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors
Our company uses the billing method called Flat Rate Pricing. This type of billing method is commonly used in many service industries and has been used by our company for several years. Flat Rate Pricing is a fixed cost. The customer knows the exact price for the repairs upfront. One benefit of flat rate pricing to the customer is, if the technician goes over the allotted time to perform the service, the customer's cost does not increase. We do not bill by the hour, which explains why there was not a breakdown of parts, labor, etc. on the customer's work order. Our service manager informed the customer of all charges and repairs needed before services were rendered. The customer agreed to the charges ($357) and to the repair without contention. The customer also saved money by using our $25 off coupon listed on Angie's List. We appreciate our customer's praises and concerns and hope that the above explanation will give the customer peace of mind.

Recently, I bought a home that had been built in 1974 and still had the original furnace. Not knowing anything about heating/ac, I took a class at the local Community College to learn the basics. I then interviewed seven different companies before choosing Mountain Air Mechanical. The gentleman who came to assess needs of the house was very thorough. He checked all the rooms, asked about comfort level for heating and cooling, explained sizes and performance of several different furnaces and heat pumps. Since I never mentioned that I had taken a class, I was very impressed that he spent so much time being sure I understood everything. The other companies who bid the job were in and out in a flash, explained little and wanted a decision quickly. Mountain Air encouraged me to take time, think things over, talk to neighbors and call when I was ready. What was more important was the excellent work crew who arrived for the installation. These men had worked for the company for years, came fully prepared and did an excellent job. Several times I joined them in the crawl space and they showed me everything they were doing and explained why. They tested the system and showed me how everything worked. They were also very respectful of my property. To access the crawlspace, they gently pulled back a giant bush.....so gently that they did not even disturb a bird nesting there. They also replaced all the sheeting covering the foundation floor. This is a great local company that I have recommended many times already!

I called Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors because my heat pump wasn't working. They were able to schedule a technician to come out the next day. They gave me a 2 hour service window and called the next day to let me know when the technician would be headed to my house. The technician was prompt, courteous and very knowledgeable -- quickly diagnosing a blown fuse and a short in the heat pump. The price was very reasonable and my heat pump is working great. I will definitely call Mountain Air next time when I have any HVAC issues.

I felt well taken care of; did not for one moment feel I was dealing with someone who was not knowledgeable , inefficient, or shady. Our technician explained everything; continued to show me what he was doing when he was purging the system after finding the pinhole. This company also ans. my calls on the 1st ring; and were very cordial. They have a lifetime customer for a job well done.
Description of Work: My 3 yr. old heat pump was not cooling when we were experiencing 100 degree days around July 4th. Finally it shut down which I knew was a safety measure. We were scheduled to have a week of rain ahead of us so I knew I could handle the days ahead if the company I called was overbooked. I looked of course on Angie's List; and Mtn. Air had only positive comments; about 14 of them. I knew 14 different parties could not manufacture those facts; Mtn. Air came the same day because I called at 9am. Turned out it was a factory defect; which the employee checked out to see if it was still under warranty because I could not find the paperwork. It was under warranty for parts only and that was worth 59 cents. There was a pinhole in the soft copper tubing coming out of the(outside unit) condenser that had allowed all the coolant (9 &1/2 units: $85 for 1st unit & lower for the rest of the units)to escape. The heat pump had automatically shut down to save the condenser. It took about 4 hours (3 days later) to refresh the system. Since my son had just graduated from AB Tech in htg.&cooling, he checked up behind them and said they did a great job.I was very satisfied; the results were what I expected; and I would call them the next time my hp goes on the blink.

We just purchased our home in late May, but didn't move for a month. Unfortunately, the home inspector didn't inspect the AC units, stating that the weather was too cool at that time. We should have insisted, unfortunately, because this resulted in a BIG bill for us! Mountain Air assisted with this problem promptly each time we called them, even on a weekend. When they determined that the unit was undersized and not working because it had basically burned itself out, they gave us credit for the service calls off the purchase price of the new unit. We feel like we have gotten to know nearly all of the folks there, from John, to Danny in Sales, and the service providers who performed all the work. Every one of these folks always was diligent in wearing foot protectors each time they came in the house, were friendly to us and our dogs, and did a great job with the entire installation. We can highly recommend them. BTW, we found them on Angie's List, but also saw them at our new neighbor's across the street who also had a new unit installed. I figured those were both good references, so I called them and am glad I did!

We moved into the house 5 years ago and have never been pleased with our HVAC system. In fact, this winter, instead of calling to get it fixed we ran "emergency heat" all season. The service man answered the question that had been plaguing us for a long time! We used a coupon from Angie's List and we are thrilled!
Description of Work: He tested all the ducts, vents and fans in our HVAC system and discovered that the fans were running too fast. The air was flowing too quickly to cool sufficiently, so the cool air coming out of our vents was not cold. He slowed the fans for us.

They installed a steam humidifier on my furnace. The price was expensive but competitive with other companies in our area. The manufacturer of the part I have is made by Honeywell. The installation was a little complicated, they did a good job. You have to have a local county inspector to check the work and the inspector thought they did a neat job also. They were responsive to my call for an estimate. They gave me an estimate for a smaller unit but I ended up requesting a larger one.

After Mark was finished we went over a check list that he had completed. Explained why we needed a new capacitor for the blower. which was explained thoroughl to me. Also let me know that if I had any plans to check the air conditioning that I should get their member contract which would save us money not only on the trip out again but also a 10 percent discount on any parts needed including the one he just installed. He was not interested in trying to find other areas where we might need to spend more money. He simply came out to do the checkup and if we were interested in anything else that we should call the office again. His primary job was only to do the service check which I feel is a good business practice.
