They were thorough and affordable. It took probably 20 minutes to find the leak and another 20 minutes to fix it. They cleaned up excellently. I think the helpfulness of the service provider, the actual person who came out was exceptional.

Professional presentation of alternate systems. Installation was timely and professional; passed inspection with flying colors. Had a system shutdown in middle of night due to GFI outlet tripping - technician came out at 2AM to resolve at no charge (still in warranty). Had problem with Duke Energy rebate - they took care of it. The propane (or natural gas if available) is well worth the money if outside temperatures fall below freezing for extended periods. Would highly recommend Mountain Air.

Estimator arrived on time, confirmed his arrival time by phone and completed a thorough evaluation of the heating and cooling needs for each level of the house. Estimator then provided us with a printout that included various SEER rated systems and costs. At that point all we had to do was select the systems we wanted and schedule the installation. The installers arrived on time and removed the old systems. They then meticulously prepared the installation sites and began setting up the new heat pump systems. All work was completed carefully and systematically. Check lists were used at every step to insure that nothing was omitted and that all installation standards were met. This is particularly important because the reliability and longevity of a heat pump is determined more by the quality of the installation than even the brand. The installers were courteous, highly trained and skilled HVAC technicians who carefully completed their work and took the time to train my family in the use of each system. The estimator returned a few days after the final inspection to make sure that AC was working properly. Mountain Air's installation exceeded all of my expectations. I've recommended them to two other people. One friend has already had a system installed by them and they had the same quality experience I did.

Mountain Air had been helping us successfully nurse along a 25+ year old furnace in the old house we bought a couple of years ago, but during one of the coldest weeks of the year, it finally died on a Friday. In the course of their final repair attempt, Mountain Air technicians identified that the furnace had started to emit carbon monoxide and had to be condemned. To their credit, and unlike other service companies we have dealt with in the past, they took the time to fully explain the situation, walking us through the testing process and showing us the actual test readings. Even though he had a personal commitment for Friday afternoon, Mountain Air's sales representative made time to come out to determine new system requirements, and explain our options clearly and thoroughly. Despite being put in a somewhat awkward position of having a competing company preparing their proposal in the house at the same time, he was relaxed, and put no pressure on us to hurry our decision. He was available over the weekend for follow up, and when we decided on a system, he had the system ordered and delivered by early the next week. Additionally, he agreed to credit the cost of recent repair parts for the old system to the purchase of the new one. Finally, the installation was done very professionally, and the installers were probably even more careful about keeping our house clean than we are. And when the installation was complete, the Asheville city inspector commented that the work was done exceptionally well, including details to make a clean installation that went beyond what is technically required. Afterwards the sales representative made a follow up visit to make sure we were entirely satisfied, and also took care of rebate filings with the gas and electric providers. I would also note that over the last couple of years, we have found Mountain Air very easy to contact, and highly responsive to our calls for service. In short, our experience with Mountain Air continues to be exactly what we would hope for, and we would highly recommend them.

I called and talked to the folks in the office and told them what I needed. We set a date and time for them to come out. This was for my parents house they had just bought. They showed up on time and performed the work. My dad had a lot of questions and they took all the time they needed to answer each question for him. They were very pleasant and professional to work with. My folks were so pleased that they bought a service contract with them and have already talked to them about some other work they want done. I appreciate them taking such good care of my folks for me. I also use them for my personal home also. I always recommend them to people.

Knowing this was a huge, expensive job, I spent a lot of time learning about what to expect by reading and watching videos on the This Old House website. Mountain Air Mechanical performed each step of the process exactly as This Old House had directed me to expect, including the step of sizing the system appropriately. The salesman and installers with whom I worked all appreciated the questions I asked (and there were many!), giving me professional, detailed answers, understanding that I had "done my homework" and willing to make sure that I understood anything that seemed unclear at any point. Best of all, Mountain Air Mechanical worked with me to arrange their removal of the old system and installation of the new one, timing those steps to so that 1) the mold removal (another contractor, another review) would be complete before they began working, and 2) the installation was complete before the other contractor returned to seal the crawlspace floor with sheeting to prevent moisture from entering. The removal was completed in one day and the installation was totally completed the very next day.
Description of Work: The HVAC original to our house was leaking water into our crawlspace and at 20 years old, it had reached the end of its mechanical lifetime. Mountain Air Mechanical conducted duct testing to inspect our ductwork (which was fine), calculated the size of our conditioned space to determine the capacity needed in a new HVAC system (turns out the original one was too large, so it cooled the air too quickly to remove moisture, contributing to our mold problem discussed in another review), provided me with extensive options for new systems (dual fuel, heat pump, dual stage, etc) and discussed the pros and cons of each honestly with me, and installed the system I selected. Because I selected a dual fuel (natural gas and electric) system, Mountain Air Mechanical had to get a permit and schedule a post-installation inspection for their work, and they passed the inspection. Mountain Air Mechanical remains my maintenance provider for this new HVAC system.

I got their $79 tune-up, which wen OK. The air was down 2 pounds (first time in over 6 years), and that was another $160. I was told that this was due to the coolant being discontinued and being more expensive as a result. However, it is available in 30# cans for $8-9/pound. It only took 10 minutes to do it, so I think the charges for it and adding it were excessive. Note - this seems to be common practice in the trade - get there with an attractive service call price - then sock it to you. This is especially true with respect to this coolant - there are many similar complaints if you Google the subject.
Description of Work: Did testing special. Then added coolant.

They are responsible because anything that they don?t find the first time that I paid for it, they came back and fixed it for free. They are very responsive people. When I call them, they are here the next day. They charge $90 for the services and if there are parts that need to be replaced, they charge extra for that. They do very good quality work. They are very responsive people. The office sets up the appointment right and the man shows up same day or the following morning. They are very punctual. I am very lucky to have them because they are good. They are very professional.

During a cold snap with temperatures in the 20s at night, my heater failed. I was having my home renovated and put off contacting a new heating & a/c repair company because I dreaded the extra hassle. I had difficulty finding good service in the past. One really cold night changed my priorities, and I joined Angie's List. Mountain Air scheduled me within two days (and did offer an emergency visit the day I called which I had to refuse because of work). The appointment was a 2-4 PM slot. At 2:30, Carol from the office called to let me know the techs would arrive closer to 4, then at 3:15 she called to tell me they were on the way. At 3:30 David and AJ arrived and by 4:20 I had heat. David listened to me before work started and explained the problems and repairs when the job was complete. AJ even found the cause of the inevitable strange noise that only an owner can hear and usually just draws polite and disbelieving uh-huhs. I chose the yearly service plan and was not charged another fee for this visit. So communication, scheduling, price, and service were all excellent. This company is so good at what they do that I recommended them to my 88 year old mother, who recently moved to Hendersonville.

First, I must acknowledge that this is the second repair done for us by this company. I was negligent it not filing a review back then so here it is now. On May 31, 2012 Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors came to access the summer readiness of our 10+ year old Trane AC unit. We were prepared for a possible refrigerant recharge since we rarely use the unit and it does not really chill our 3000 sq foot home. The two repairmen punctually arrived and after some testing and inspection, determined that our unit was operating correctly and was fully charged. Their company's Angie's List coupon was honored and the inspection bill came to $65....well below what we had anticipated. Now for the gas furnace repair a year later! We called them for a repair when our gas burner would not ignite during a cold snap this past May. Because we smelled the natural gas, the utility company came to assess the situation, discovered the malfunctioning igniter and subsequently turned off the gas to the furnace. We called Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors and explained the problem. Over the phone, they secured the replacement igniter and scheduled a date for its installation. We were fortunate they were still able to order one of only two replacement parts still available for our original 1982 GE gas furnace....the blower unit and the igniter burner module. "Tony" arrived promptly and had the replacement device in place and the furnace working as normal in about an hour. He was very personable, knowledgeable about our furnace and a good representative of his company. On both occasions we found that this company/their agents were reliable, honest, efficient and explained the work being done. Given the age of both our heating and cooling systems, we fully intend to use them in the future and recommend them to others.

Great! Michael was running late, but the office kept us informed. His last job had been an hour drive away, which made it almost 5 pm when he finally arrived. Still, only 2 hours late. Michael looked and acted amazingly fresh. He immediately diagnosed and fixed the problem. It's a new system to me. He offered tips and advice...all good.

When we purchased our home 2-3 years ago, the seller recommended Mountain Air Mechanical Contractors for an annual service contract for our heating and cooling system. We followed that advice and have been very pleased with this company. Our home and the system is 15 years old. It needs really qualified attention. The system is located in a shallow crawl space under our home, hard to get to. Yet we have never heard a negative comment from the technicians who have to work in this dark space. I have a lung condition which makes breathing difficult. We work with Mountain Air to find a filtration system we could afford and would clean the air I was breathing. It was installed promptly and has significantly reduced my coughing. Their technicians are courteous, articulate and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this company.

Mountain Air was very responsive and provided a top notch product and quality job at a fair price. I originally received their quote in August 2012 but did not decide to do the work until September 2013. Their price was a little higher than competitors but the quality of their product , including the fact that all duct work was wrapped metal, was far superior. They stood by their original quote a year later, scheduled the work to fit my schedule, and completed the work as promised. The quality of workmanship was outstanding. I would definitely call Mountain Air for any HVAC needs.

During a recent cold snap my furnace was not operating. I called Mountain Air early in the morning to fix it and was told that a serviceman would be by my house between 4:00 and 6:00. At 6:15 when no one had shown up nor had I received a call, I called the answering service to find out if the technician was still on his way. She said she would try to contact the tech. Finally at 7:45, he arrived and diagnosed the issue. I was charged the $90.00 fee. I watched the tech write down a few numbers; he said he needed the serial and model numbers to order the correct part. I shared that I didn't think those were the correct numbers and that they were plainly labeled on the furnaces cover. He stated that he knew what type of furnace it was and had all the information he needed. He said he would put the order in for the part the following morning and it would be fixed by 9:00 am. Ok, no big deal. At 9:30 the following day I called to find out when the tech would be there to complete the work. The secretary said someone would get back to me immediately. I waited and waited for a return call. Finally at 1:30 I called again to find out what was going on and when someone would be there to fix the furnace. Again I was told someone would call back. At 3:00 I called again and was told the serial number and model number were incorrectly recorded by the service technician and they had not ordered the part. They then asked if I could leave work to dictate the serial/model numbers to them. If not, they would not be able to complete my job. Please keep in mind the temperatures were cold, high 20's at night. I left work to dictate the numbers to Brian the service manager;Brian said the part would be ordered. By 6:30 that evening a technician finally arrived and fixed the furnace. There was no apology, no thank you, no rebate, nothing. Perhaps it was a bad day or just one of those crazy situations, but it left me less than impressed with the service, communication, and price. I cannot recommend Mountain Air with confidence to any Angie's List members. PS I later googled the price of the inducer, $123.00, so I was charged $300.00 for about 40 minutes of work. Ouch!!

As my rating shows all the services contracted for were done in a first class way by all their staff but one. I would take nothing away from them and the equipment installed (Trane) in my basement woodworking shop, except for the one employee I had to report several times for his incompetence and attitude. Between me, fortunately I had the time, and their far better other staff, we were able to limit the extent of his damage to mostly inconvenience. They say that he is no longer with the company. That aside, I must say that the areas that interact with customers perform remarkably well. In everything you would expect of the best contractor, Mountain Air is a clear leader. I have no reservations about giving them my highest recommendation.
