 + -1 moreI am perplexed because I do not know the condition of my chimney. I have the written inspection saying the chimney needs cleaning and I have the chimney service man telling me it does not need cleaning. I am puzzled as to why the service person asked me to look inside the chimney when I have no training about how to determine what to look for to discern whether or not a chimney needs cleaning. It seems that I paid $99.00 for a chimney cleaning, but instead was given a sales pitch regarding the outside chimney.
Description of Work: Summary of work description: Inside area of fireplace was swept with hand brush. Inside of chimney was inspected from floor level with a light. Details of work description: Service person called at about 12:30 saying he was on the way. Service person arrived an hour later. He brought in tools in a container, a mat, a floor cover and a suit. Next he rolled in a heavy looking machine on wheels that had a hose or hoses connected to it. The service person put on the suit, laid out the cover on the floor, and removed the logs from the fireplace. He laid a mat across the outside floor of the fireplace base. He swept the area inside the fireplace with a hand held brush, swept the fallen soot on the floor into a tray, and took it outside. He shined a light inside the chimney. He then said the chimney did not need cleaning. I told the chimney service man that my home inspector had written on the inspection report prior to my purchasing the home that the chimney was so dirty, he was unable to inspect it condition. The chimney service man then directed me to sit on the base of the fireplace and look up inside the chimney. The chimney service man then directed outside for several minutes, where he showed me white speckles on the outside of the chimney which he said may need to be removed by several procedures. We went back inside and he directed me to sign the paper, which stated the procedures to repair the outside of the chimney were to cost $426.36. The service person removed his suit, rolled back outside the "hose machine," removed his tools and the floor covering and left.

Description of Work: Cleaned chimney. Inspected cracked fire brick in fireplace. Installed a stainless steel reflecting plate in back of box to protect the fire brick. Our tech was a great guy, gave us lof of good info on caring for our fireplace.

I was given a variety of options at different price points. The work was done as scheduled once the part was fabricated to my color choice. It solved the water leaking problem.

 + -1 moreThey arrived when committed and quickly went to work and found the problem. They were very professional and thorough. They explained the advantages of replacing the chimney guard (that some animal had chewed through) so to avoid any future problems. They cleaned the pipe after getting the squirrel out and inspected everything else in the chimney system.
Description of Work: Chimney Keepers came out to help solve a venting problem with a water heater in our crawl space. They quickly found that a squirrel had crawled down the pipe and become stuck. They removed the squirrel and then recommended replacing the guard on the chimney cap so no more critters could get down the chimney and cause problems. They came back out a couple of weeks later and installed the new cap/guard on the chimney.

 + -1 moreI called their number from their website and was given an appointment the same week. Carl arrived just a few minutes late, but he worked so quickly that he ended the service call in plenty of time. He was professional and polite and he cleaned my chimney without getting any dust anywhere at all. Then, he offered to check my dryer vent and reported that it needed cleaning. I don't know if it really needed cleaning or not, but it was only an extra $99 and my dryer does seem a bit more efficient now. He gathered a huge bagful of dryer lint from my vent, which totally surprised me how all that lint was in the pipes. Only after the call did I see an ad on Angie's for a dryer vent cleaning for $59 from another company, so I'm not sure if it was an overpriced service or not, since it wasn't something that I had shopped around for. He also tried to sell me a stainless steel backing for the fireplace to protect and potentially add a few extra years to the masonry in the back of the fireplace before it would need to be replaced. I passed on that offer and he didn't push. He also gave me some advice on a couple other projects I am considering doing around the house and he was very knowledgeable about general household maintenance and repair. I would highly recommend his services and will definitely use again when the need arises.

 + -1 moreChimney Keepers of Garner was everything I wanted from a Chimney Sweep, and more. He arrived on time, took the time to do the job well, and completely cleaned up afterward. After this, he took time to answer in detail several questions I asked about the best way to use the fireplace to avoid future creosote buildup. He surprised me by saying that I wouldn't need to do this again for two years. Although I cannot recall the amount I paid, I do recall that it was exactly what I had been quoted over the phone--very reasonable--and he did not try to and quot;upselland quot; me additional services. All in all, it was a fine experience, and I can recommend him highly.

 + -1 moreI got the quote in late fall /early winter as I had noticed that there was significant wetness in the fireplace. We are interested in installing a woodstove insert, but I thought it best to get some opinions about the issues before installation. I found Chimney Keepers and a couple of other chimney repair services from AL and had them come out and give me some estimates. Carl's estimate seemed the most reasonable and his assesment of the issues and the solution seemed on par with our vision of installing a wood-stove. He even said we would need to wait until the spring when the weather warmed up/dried out to do the work, which made complete sense. He quoted me $450 for the repair work and once the spring came I gave him a call and scheduled the service. They came and completed the work on the day scheduled. Everything looks good after the first couple of rains. I am pleased with the level of service and workmanship for the price I paid.
Description of Work: Carl and his team, repaired the crown on the chimney, and adjacent corbling. They pressure washed the chimney, and applied a breathable warterproofing coating, making sure the flashing was in good order and painted black. Lastly, they re-attached one of my two chimney caps that blew off in a recent storm.

Description of Work: I had used him before to move an old wood stove that had rusted out of the fireplace. I had him come back because I liked working with the gentleman who owns the company. I had them put a new chimney cap on. I had a two flue chimney, one which was used by our downstairs furnace. That furnace was changed to a more efficient model so we had him seal that flue off. We then had a stainless steel cap put on the fireplace flue. I then had him clean and seal the bricks.

 + -1 moreI was very pleased with the service I received from start to finish. When I called Chimney Keepers, I didn't really know what the problem was. I was experiencing water dripping on the outside of my chimney insert. I thought I need a whole new chimney cap. They sent someone out to measure my chimney and quoted me only on what was needed, a new chase top, not the whole cap. They informed me of all of my choices regarding materials and estimated prices. They installed the new chase top that matched my siding as soon as weather would allow. Installation was delayed due to frigid weather conditions that prevented them from walking on my roof. Chimney Keepers kept in good contact with me during the whole process, even the wait. They charged me exactly what was originally quoted.

Description of Work: I had a woodstove & it's stovepipe cleaned as well as a very long dryer vent. The top of the chimney was completely clogged. Luckily the dryer vent was not as filled as I feared. It runs @ 25ft under a bedroom floor so could be a real fire hazard. There was considerable build up removed.

After forty plus years of usage, including wood-stove workout, the chimney had never been cleaned or inspected. How thankful we are that there had been no previous problems! The technician scheduled to inspect and repair as needed, arrived on schedule, did the work as requested, and explained every detail necessary to bring the fireplace up to current day specification. He even called us at the conclusion of his work. As he was completing this repair, other craftsmen appeared on the property and we were alerted about this arrival and whether they were authorized. In this particular case, they were not. His very timely call-he stayed until he reached us on the phone-saved us much money and headache. We cannot thank him enough for going that extra mile to alert us!
Description of Work: One 44 year old chimney is now in GREAT working order. This required cleaning, damper and gap repair and installation of a top-mounted damper to return the chimney to proper and safe working after 40 years of wood-stove usage. We were impressed that the repair technician took such time to explain not just what had he found, but how the repair would be done. We think the price for the work performed was extremely reasonable.
