Once I realized my unit was not running; I tested it with another identical thermostat I happened to have on hand. The fan alone would not run so I hoping that it would only be a control board issue and not the compressor. I called the on service number the night before and they told me that someone would call me promptly the next day after they got into the office at 07:30. I waited until about 9:00 and called them back. The office personnel took my information again and scheduled a technician that afternoon. A text message was sent when the technician was in route. The tech forgot some of his tools so I lent him mind so he could remove the cover of the unit. After a few measurements, he indicated that the transformer was bad. He replaced it and it blew as well. He said it was going to be hard to troubleshoot since he couldn't provide 24V to the control board. He stated the new units have a in line fuse to protect the transformer. I asked him why he couldn't add a fuse temporarily for troubleshooting purposes and to protect the transformer. He said he couldn't because he wouldn't be able to get current to the control board. This made absolutely no sense to me. The tech made a few calls and returned to the shop to get some more parts. When he returned from the shop....I noticed he was installing an in line fuse at that point. He replaced the transformer again and the fuse blew this time. He stated that it was probably the control board, but couldn't tell for sure. He needed to order the control board which would take a few days. I was not interested in spending extra money......only replacement parts at this point, since the unit is 15 years old ......knowing I'll probably need a new one in a couple of years. Before leaving, the tech was h*** bent on the sales pitch regarding mtc. This irritated me a bit since my unit was still broke and he wasn't sure if the ordered part was going to fix it. He returned the following week to continue working, but I was not present. He replaced the control board, but then stated that my thermostat was bad. My wife called me at work to speak with him. I stated I had two good thermostats there that should work and asked was the wiring from the "new" control board installed back to the thermostat different than the original? I was guessing some leads may have been crossed sending incorrect signals to the new control board. He said it wasn't. I asked him to try the other thermostat that I had on hand. After about 30 more minutes, my wife called me back and said he made a few trips back and forth from the thermostat to the unit, but that everything was now working. So I don't know what else was done....I know it doesn't take 30 minutes to replace and identical thermostat cover. The parts online for this job cost about $150.........bill was $750+. that seems a little steep to me based on past repairs from other service providers.

Dear [Member name removed] I want to apologize for the inconvenience of multiple trips out to your home to repair the older unit, though with older units like yours we sometimes do find it more challenging to diagnose exactly how many issues are causing a system problems. Although we did have to order the parts and make two trips to get the system back up and running, the problem was fixed and we hope your system is now running efficiently. As far as the cost of our work, no such price exists in our industry as the $150 you mentioned in your review for replacement of a printed circuit board, tying in a safety fuse and trouble shooting and repairing low voltage issues. I beleive your were provided with an esitmate of $750.00 up front after our initial diagnosis before any repair was made, or any part was ordered. The parts, labor and warranty on the factory parts we replaced justifies the fairly priced cost of $750.00. The board we installed came from the manufacturer of the unit along with a warranty, and therefore will not match a price found from a random online store with lower quality parts and prices. As far as the sales pitch, we are sorry to hear you found this to be pushy. It is recommended that homeowners replace their systems every 10-12 years, hence the discussion about replacement. I personally would recommend this to an homeowner with an older system, but completely understand and respect that not everyone is ready to make a large investment on a new HVAC system and will sometimes opt to repair. That said, we hope you found the repair to resolve all of your issues, and I would be happy to talk with you personally about the repairs anytime. We would love to have an opportunity to prove why we are a highly rated and esteemed company in this business, so please do not hesitate to call our office and ask for me anytime. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

The svc. tech. showed up promptly, we greeted each other, he put his "footies" on and entered the house. I took a few minutes of small talk and then explained what t had happened. He quickly and professionally explained what was most likely the situation. He then continued to examine both the outside and inside equipment and it confirmed exactly his opinion. He then went over all the options based on the condition and age of my unit and the cost associated with each. I chose one of the options and he quickly performed the repairs, we tested the system and it worked perfect before he left. I pad his electronically and we shook hands and he departed. The tech. was super nice young man. T

The HVAC system in our house was approximately 15 years old. It stopped working around the July 4th holiday. We have a service agreement with 72 degrees, so we contacted them and they sent a service technician to the house to identify the source of the problem. A motor needed to be replaced which would have cost ~$2500. Since the unit was quite old, we decided to explore getting a new system. We had investigated a complete solar system a couple of years ago and did not feel that it was cost effective at the time for the investment. Eddie Blanchard, the owner of 72 degrees is leading the way in NC to bring a hybrid solar system to his customers. Eddie took the time to explain how the technology worked, how it was being used successfully outside of NC, how this would reduce our energy costs and tax credits that were available to us if we decided to pursue this option instead of a traditional HVAC system. Furthermore, Eddie is interested in filtration systems that remove dust, mold and bacteria that are circulating through the house in the air. We were interested in this technology as well because of allergy issues. After consulting with our accountant, we decided that it was a good option for us and decided to get the hybrid solar system with filtration. Within 2 days, Eddie and our project manager, Jason, worked quickly to have air conditioning restored in our house. Eddie and his team coordinated with our roofer to have some minor repairs done and install the solar panel. Lastly, the filtration system needed to be ordered. Once that came in, the filtration system was installed. The entire project took about 3 weeks to complete. I can't say enough about 72 degrees. Eddie Blanchard and his team are knowledgeable and professional. I would highly recommend them.

Brian showed up on-time, as promised, and repaired one of our two eleven year-old A/C units. At the same time, he let us know our options having first helped us understand a potentially more serious breakdown we're facing. We will be getting a more complete estimate from the Company in coming days. Meanwhile, Brian was friendly, efficient, and helpful. Great rep for them -- and help to us.

Hello [removed member name]: Looking at our records from three years ago, we do see that our salesperson came out to analyze and quote you on a new gas furnace and AC replacement. He quoted a fair price for replacing both, and for just the furnace at that time. There was in fact a Carbon Monoxide leak detected on that visit, hence the suggestion that you would need a CO2 Detector. Also, the state of North Carolina actually requires homeowners in their codes to have a detector on any floor within your house that has both a bedroom and a gas appliance. Our notes in the software system that keeps all past calls on record state that you felt our salesperson was overstating this need, and became impatient with his emphasis on the importance of detecting this deadly gas. I apologize if you felt he was pushy, or provided false information but assure you that this was not the case. Hopefully, you have found a reliable HVAC company in the area that services your systems as desired. However, if you are interested in shopping rates and quality with a top-rated HVAC company in the future, please don't hesitate to call and ask for me personally. The Solar Thermal system has cut our cooling bills, compared to the same time last year by AT LEAST in half. In addition, the Federal & State Energy Tax breaks for the installed system greatly reduce the overall cost of ownership and make it even more worthwhile to install. Even Duke energy provides a cash rebate for this type of system! I can't emphasize enough the dramatic drop in our summer energy costs for cooling the home and making it feel more comfortable than before. We are very satisfied with the system and for the professionalism, expertise, and responsiveness of 72 Degrees Heating and Air Conditioning. I highly recommend them with no hesitation.

Late Wednesday afternoon (6/18/14) I woke up sweating and found out that my AC unit wasn't running. I called 72 Degrees and dealt with call center. That was an alright experience. They took my info and sent it on to the company. I'd say 1-2 hours later I got a call from Brian who works for 72 Degrees. He told me if it was an emergency he could come out sometime that night but that he had 5 people ahead of me to deal with and the visit would cost $150. He then informed me that I could set up an appointment for Thursday (6/19/14) and it would only cost me $75, so I went with the second option. He told me that someone would call me in the morning to set up the appointment. About an hour or so after talking to him someone called me from there to set up the appointment. The appointment was set for 4-6pm Thursday. He showed up at roughly 4:15pm and got right to work. He told me that my filters were way beyond clogged and that could be the issue. He went to work on the unit and found out the motor was dead and said that most likely the clogged filters burnt it out. Luckily for me he had a universal motor in his work van that he could put in or I could wait until Friday and he could get a GE brand one to put in there. Since it's been 90+ degrees outside I opted for the universal one and he went to work. It took him roughly an hour to switch out the motors and my unit is back in working order. It cost me $470 for all that. Overall it was a good experience and Brian was professional and answered all my stupid questions I had for him. I'd recommend this company, and any issues I have with my unit I will definitely be giving them a call. Thank you 72 Degrees for making my house 72 degrees again instead of 90 degrees.

I set up an appointment for an estimate on a new HVAC system, two weeks in advance. Told Brandy my time in town was tight, so it was important to get the estimate done on Saturday. She said the owner, Eddie Blanchard, would be out @ 9 AM. Bottom line: 9 AM came and went, no Eddie. Called Brandy @ 10:45, she apologized, said that Eddie was called onto an "emergency" job, and she hadn't yet "gotten around" to rescheduling all Eddie's missed appointments. Saw all those snarky write ups about people being stood up. Now I understand. Since I am going to spend upwards of $10000 on a new HVAC system, I feel like I'm entitled to have the vender show some respect for my time. I want professionalism, not lame excuses.

[Member Name], In regards to the unpleasant experience you had with our company, we are very sorry. There was in fact an emergency this past Saturday, and while scrambling to reschedule some of our calls, we honestly missed telling you earlier that we would not be available until later Saturday or until Monday afternoon. When we attempted to call and reschedule, you stated that you had already made multiple appointments that same day with other HVAC companies for estimates. We understand you desired to receive multiple bids, and are still willing to come and provide an estimate for you anytime you are available and someone from our sales team is also available. In fact, to help ease your pain as we fully realize everyone's time is valuable, we can extend normal sales hours in order to accommodate your calendar. There are a lot of moving parts in the heating and air conditioning business, particularly in a busy season like the summer, and any mistake made was not intentional. We do try to live up to our word and guarantees, and would be happy to extend a free tune-up to you in the future, or waive the diagnostic call fee if you are interested in giving us another chance to prove why we are highly rated on Angie's List and other social media sites. Please call and ask for me personally in order to arrange a future appointment or service. Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

I had some issues during the initial calls w their call center - they promised same day service earlier in the day, but were not responsive in PM when I called to ck on status. Brandy Proj Mgr / CS from 72 degrees ultimately picked up project vs the external call center they use. She apologized and got actual technician to service the unit after hours on the same day. There was a after hours charge, but they discounted it a bit and provided an add'l discount for the trouble I had earlier with the call center. The job got done in very timely manner and seems to be working now.The only significant issue is the pricing is a bit high. Although they don't charge a flat service fee it is built into the actual parts/supply costs - first lb of refrigerant is appx 50% higher than next lb of refrigerant. However, Overall because of Brandy handling the issues-getting it done on the same day, discounting services for my issue w call center and making a followup call to me after service completed to make sure I was happy - I'd definitely recommend 72 Degrees.

Dear [member name removed], We certainly appreciate the time you took to post your review, and are glad that although our call center was delayed in originally rescheduling your call, we were able to get to your home the same day and provide a discount for the untimely delay. Our call center is fairly new, and we are still working out some of the bugs in communication, hence the few reviews here on Angie's List with delayed appointments. This is not the norm for 72 Degrees, which is why we are still a very highly esteemed HVAC company. It is our mission to ensure all customers are 100% satisfied, hence our satisfaction guarantees, and the offer to accommodate your pricing for the inconvenience. I think you'll find all of our competitors have a flat rate fee when providing services as well. On your next service, we will be happy to match other HVAC company quotes you may receive in order to ensure your comfort. Thank you very much for doing business with us; we look forward to helping you out again soon! Kind Regards, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

With the purchase of a whole new system, I was told that I would get a year of free maintenance. The monthly automatic withdraws would discontinue. It is now June and once again the amount is still coming out of my checking. I have emailed and placed several calls about this issue.... each time being told it was a mistake and would be taken care of.... the withdrawal would stop and I would get a refund for the months mistakenly billed. So far... no progress. I have placed another call this morning asking for billing to call me back (each time they are not available or out of the office and someone else takes a message and assures me it will be taken care of. No one has called me back and it has not been taken care of. I do not place to use them again after this year is over.
Description of Work: I purchased a new heat pump and zoning in February due to a failing system. I probably purchased more than I really needed, but do have a 2 story house and one system. It took 2 days to get the system installed correctly but did have heat downstairs the first night. Had to have them back a second time because of problems with the zoning dampers.... not sending any heat to the kitchen area. Took some time but everything was finally fixed.

We apologize for the inconvenience of your member service draft not immediately being cancelled, but rest assured you will receive a refund of the month billed and we are canceling it this week. As an already valued customer, you know it is our mission to ensure all clients are 100% satisfied, and although your installation was complicated and took two days, we are happy to hear it is now working efficiently and that your are comfortable in your home. Please call the office and ask to speak with me personally (they will of course give you my cell phone number) if the refund check does not arrive within a week. I would also like to talk with you about any work done within your home that you are left unhappy with after the refund has been processed so we can make sure your are pleased with the company you've trusted and used for such a long time. Thank You, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

I was having issues with my central heat, so I purchased the tune up package for $44.00. The technician came out and spent about an hour working on my system. Turns out the system's age (now 15 years old on a builder's grade system) had caught up with it. The repairs to get the system operating decently were over half the price of a complete replacement. I decided to replace the system and got three quotes. 72 Degrees gave me what I felt was the best value. They spec'd and installed the new system and I have been very, very happy, both with the heat and air conditioning.
Description of Work: Replaced my package AC/heat unit.

I scheduled a service call for last Thursday from 5pm to 7pm and no one showed up. About 8:30 that evening, I received a call saying they were backed up and needed to reschedule. The service call was rescheduled for this Tuesday from 5pm to 7pm and I was promised that they would show up on time no matter what, as I explained that I had to leave work early to be home for them to come at 5pm. Again, no one showed up. Someone called at about 7:45 and said he could be there in an hour, but I had plans for later in the evening so that wouldn't work. I asked that they call me the next day to reschedule, as I did not have my calendar in front of me. I have yet to receive a follow up call as of today, Friday. I have now taken off work early twice to be home when they said they would come, only to have no one show up either time. I have used 72 Degrees in the past and they were great. This experience has been the opposite.
Description of Work: Nothing. They never showed up for either scheduled appointment.

I have never publicly placed a complaint, but after my experience today with 72 Degree Heating and Air Conditioning I feel I MUST! Called yesterday to set up an appointment, had one today from 12-2, as of 2:15, no one had arrived. I called at 2:15 and was asked if it was OK if someone came out tomorrow instead... I explained no, that if I had thought they could not come today, I would have scheduled with a different company. She said she would call dispatch and see what she could do and call me right back. No call back, I called again at 3:00, in middle of call was disconnected, called back and they said... once again let me see if I can get someone to call you back. As of right now.... have not heard from them. I would highly suggest NOT using this company in any upcoming heating/AC needs you may have.

Hello [Member name removed]: Please accept my sincere apologies for missing the appointment originally made, and for rescheduling your initial call. We tried to accommodate your emergency by fitting you into an already full schedule, and unfortunately could not get to you on time. It is our mission to arrive at all customer's homes in the time span our office team originally anticipates, but the hot air over he past few weeks of spring have kept our company busier than usual. When our office tried to reschedule the call to the next day due to this full schedule, you said you would call other HVAC companies. We tried to call you back again after the disconnection, and failed to get through. That said, we are truly sorry to have missed an opportunity to service your system, and are sorry to even have to provide explanations for our delay in arrival and phone response. We are growing our team and will be able to handle a greater volume of appointments soon. Please don't hesitate to call us at 919-777-9777 again and ask for me personally to make an appointment in the future. I would be happy to provide a discount on our normal diagnostic fee for you, or a free maintenance membership for six months, and prove why we are the Triangle's top rated HVAC company on Angie's List! Most Sincerely, Eddie Blanchard Owner & GM of 72 Degrees

We contacted the company on Tuesday for an estimate on a new HVAC system as our was completely down and needed replacing ASAP. The office person we spoke with said the owner would be able to come out and meet with us early Friday morning. She then called back the next day (Wednesday) to let us know that he had a family obligation that morning and could come out between 10 and 12. We made sure were available during that time on Friday, and no one came. Around 12:30 we received a call from the office saying that they were running late but would definitely be there by 1:30. About 15 minutes later we received another call stating that they would not be able to make that appointment time either. I told her we had another company coming out that afternoon for an estimate and she said we could schedule something for that evening or the following week. I asked if the evening appointment would also need to be cancelled and she said it was possible because they were so busy that week with the heat, the assessment could take a couple of hours, etc.. At that point I was so frustrated with the back and forth that I told her we would be using another company to which her response was "Ok, that's fine!'. We had some time constraints as were leaving for a trip over the weekend so we were trying to get all estimates completed by Friday so we could make a decision and have a system installed the following week. It was the first 90 degree week of the year and I understand that they were busy, but as someone who was sitting at home waiting for an estimate it was incredibly frustrating. Obviously we can't speak to the work that they do, and we have heard it's a good company, but I would be hesitant to use them in the future based on our experience of just trying to obtain an estimate.
Description of Work: Failed to show for scheduled appointment, later rescheduling and cancelling last minute.

Would not use or even try contacting again.
Description of Work: We called to schedule an appointment for a hvac system check per the recommendation of our energy company. No one ever contacted us after leaving a couple messages. I guess in this poor economy, they don't need any more business.
