From the initial call to the end of the project, G&P was super easy to work with. They returned phone calls, showed up on time, and completed the job exactly as bid and expected. My new driveway is super nice and my neighbors are jealous. I'm keeping these guys on my contact list for future projects.
Description of Work: Installed new driveway and short walkway. Removed all old concrete.

I just stated how it went in the other comments! Smooth and hassle free.
Description of Work: OMG what didn't they do right? NOTHING! Shawn and his guys did a large patio tear out and put in a new patio, extended it under my deck and put a retaining wall in. These guys were considerate, polite, did everything by the book. I live in a cul-de-sac so it was a challenge. No angry neighbor's (that I am aware of),lol. The hard work they do is just mind blowing, these guys DO NOT get enough THANK YOU's! So much respect to these men and their families. This is the second large job they did for me!

I met with the G & P Concrete Estimator on May 29, 2015. He completed measurements, explained the process, and provided me with a written estimate which I signed and agreed to on that day. He was very professional and not at all pushy. He told me that the company was working about 5 to 6 weeks out so my tentative date for installation was August 19th. He said he would try to find an earlier date if he could and would let me know. He later contacted me to say that June 26 could be a possibility. Sometime during the week of June 22, I received a call that, due to the rain, they could not install the sidewalk on the 26th but hoped to be able to do so around July 1. On June 28th, a Sunday (!) I received a text asking if the crew could come in the morning, Monday, June 30th. I said yes and asked what time the crew would arrive. I was told 7:30am. On the dot, on Monday, June 29th, G & P concrete arrived at 7:30 am and went right to work. As they began to remove the old flagstones, I told them I was keeping the flagstones for a different project and they stacked them where directed. They removed the old sand and asked where I wanted it put or if I wanted it. I showed them where I wanted it and they put the old sand in that location. They put down new sand, smoothed and leveled it. they put in rock and smoothed and leveled that. They then installed the forms. The concrete was being poured BEFORE NOON! They took a lot of time to smooth and texture the concrete. They even allowed me to bring my two dogs and cat and put their prints in the concrete! The crew did a great clean up job. They were friendly, funny, and nice. they actually seemed to enjoy their work. I heard no cussing and no complaining. they were fast and efficient. I am considering redoing the concrete deck around my pool next Spring and G & P Concrete will be #1 on my list to call for that project. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

We had a concrete porch slab that tilted significantly. The previous owners had tried mudjacking to lift it, but the process failed. We contracted with G & P to replace the slab, and also build in a landing step below the door, so the step up into the home wasn't so high. The slab was going to be curved, and also replace a sidewalk extension next to the porch slab. The contract stated two piers would be installed under the porch roof supports. Because of the weather, we were expecting delays and we were called on a Sunday about a delay. No problem. But the next day, the carpenter was out to pull the porch roof pillars and put in the roof braces because he had a notice that the job was going to happen on Wednesday, per schedule. Well, this started the clock, as we did not want the porch roof up on supports for too long. We called about when the job would happen, and were told Wednesday or Thursday. When no one showed up, we called again and were told the crew would be out Saturday. The small crew (three people) showed up and broke up the slab. Underneath it was a large mass of mudjacking material. They were going to put the slab on top of the mudjacking material. They couldn't drill through the mudjacking material to place the piers. They had another idea, but couldn't finish because they had to go for another job. So they put the subbase material in. They also placed the form for the step, but it wasn't to the spec. They mentioned something about being out on Monday to finish. In the middle of the following week, called again and was told they'd be out Thursday or Friday. Called again, and they did come out on Saturday. I expressed my concern to the owner, Shawn, about the lack of piers and he said he would be out with the crew to go over the plans. He didn't show Saturday, not until I demanded that the crew foreman call and have him come. When he arrived, II expressed my concerns about the piers, so he just grabbed a shovel and started digging deep holes in front of the porch slab. Not where the piers are supposed to be installed, but in front of the slab. He called them piers, but they were basically deep holes along the front. We also realized at that time that by pouring the concrete over the mudjacking material, the top of the slab was going to be over the top of the concrete foundation. In fact, it's over both the sill and the rim joist. I was definitely not happy about this. I asked the crew about flashing, to provide some protection, and they did place some material haphazardly along the side. But it didn't extend beyond the top of the concrete pour. They also corrected the landing step so it was the right dimensions. They poured the concrete and the finishers did take a considerable amount of time smoothing the edges and rounding the landing. It was nicely done. They brushed the concrete, per contract, and the result is relatively even, though there was one somewhat of a streak down the middle of the concrete. Not that big a deal. The surface in one area does, unfortunately, collect water. Luckily, it's out of the foot path. When I seal the concrete, hopefully it won't be as much of an issue, and we can sweep the water away when it rains. Bottom line, though, I wasn't happy about the piers. I wasn't happy about my concerns being rejected. And I wasn't happy about the concrete over the top of the sill and rim joist, without proper protection. I talked with the owner about my concerns, and the lack of piers. He said what he put in were piers. I contacted the county code enforcement division, talked to one of the folks, and said I was trying to find out if the holes were piers. I came to find out that work that incorporates support for a structure attached to the house, like the roof porch, requires a permit, requires piers under the roof support, and required inspection of the hole dug for the piers before the piers were placed. He said our porch wasn't up to code. We were both concerned about its stability, so he had an inspector come out. The inspector said that sometimes flatwork people aren't familiar with the necessity of the permit, and the situation was a bit of a gray area. He said the county would accept the work, we wouldn't get a citation. Bluntly, I think since the concrete was already poured, there wasn't much they could do, other than tell us it had to be redone. Regardless, the porch is not up to code. The reason for the code is stability of structure support. The whole purpose of the piers is to provide a stable platform for the porch roof supports if the concrete slab is impacted by frost heaves. The spot footings (the inspector's term for the holes dug in the front), are part of the pour, and therefore could be just as impacted by the frost heaves as the rest of the slab. OK, the thing is poured. Not much we can do about it now, except wait and see what happens this winter. I did talk to the company owner about the crew tearing out the siding, and leaving it as it was. He agreed to have the siding repaired when they placed the roof support pillars back. The person who came out to do both was excellent, and did a good job. Before the siding was repaired, though, we had to have exterminators out because ants came in via the porch and exposed wall. We've since found out, from two termite inspectors, that we're exceptionally vulnerable because of how the porch slab was placed. By pouring the concrete so it's over the sill and rim joist, we've provided a protective barrier for termites. We'll now have to invest in a termite protection plan. We're also concerned about moisture getting into the wood frame because of the concrete poured directly against it with just a slim flashing as protection. An additional metal sheet and other protections should have been placed. Insect protection could have also have been applied, if we knew the porch slab was going to be so high. But the best approach would have been to jack hammer up the mudjack material, bring in dirt to fill any void, tamp it down strongly, add the subbase and then pour the slab so it would have been below the sill. If the material was a problem and they would have needed additional money to do this extra work, we would have been more than willing to pay it. But we weren't even given this as an option, and we couldn't stop the work because everything was already torn up, and the guys were already there with the concrete. The contract also noted the use of a vapor barrier where the step is, because that was always going to be above the sill. Well, no vapor barrier was used, throughout the entire porch. This barrier protects from water vapor from the ground moving through the concrete and diffusing moisture through contact surfaces. So now we have to worry about the possibility of water damage to our house frame. The contractor did use fiber and metal mesh, but these aren't vapor barriers. We'll attempt to water proof the concrete with a seal we'll apply, and then we'll have to monitor the foundation from the basement. Unfortunately, that part of the basement is finished. We're also having to hire a drainage specialist because the dirt was flattened in front of the porch and now all the rain flows to the new porch and house. The company did not repair the landscape when finished. One last issue was what they did with the material they dug up for the spot footings. We didn't notice that the owner had directed his crew to take the material and dump it in the back yard. Not until we caught them after three loads have been dumped. They said the owner told them to just dump it in the back yard stream. Well, that's not a stream, that's a storm water runoff. We stopped them before they placed more material in the runoff path, and they dumped the rest higher up the hill. But now we have mounds of material. Most of the mounds were dirt and rock, and we're not too worried about them. A couple of the mounds, though, had concrete dust or something in them, because they've formed into solid concrete masses. And yes, they are impacting on storm water drainage and we'll have to pickaxe them down. The contract does state that we're responsible for grass, dirt, and debris dug up as part of the process, but this shouldn't include the subbase material they bring. And just dumping the material (wheel barrow full dumps) without asking is not a good policy. About the job: Pros: the crew was very polite, and hard working. The finishers did a nice job on the edges and shaping the footing. The curved corners are nice. The owner has responded to my calls, did have the carpenter fix the siding. Cons: the job wasn't up to code, proper protections weren't taken for pouring the concrete above the sill and rim joist, and the work was rushed. Excess material was just dumped without asking permission or where we'd like it dumped. The owner needs to listen to the home owner and not keep repeating "How long have you been in the concrete business?" This is our home. We shouldn't have to worry about what's going to happen this winter, or about termites, or water damage from contact with the concrete. Update: response to company: the job was in unincorporated St. Charles County, not the city of O'Fallon. If you disagree with the code enforcement division for the county, take it up with them--they are the ones who say the porch is not to code No vapor barrier was placed. I said no such thing to your people. The step was described in the contract. There was nothing about charges for weather in the contract. You did not ask permission to dump material. The spot footers are not piers. The work is not to code, and best practices were not used. That is what upsets us.
Description of Work: The company removed our old concrete porch slab that was badly tilted and replaced it with a new, and newly redesigned, concrete porch and landing.

Response from G & P Concrete Inc
These allegations are totally false. As you saw in the pictures the concrete work that was done at the customers house not only looks good but is structurally sound. In the City of O'Fallon there is no permit required for a concrete porch replacement. There is also no pier inspection required. The contract that the homeowner signed provided by our Field Estimator stated we would install two piers however we went above and beyond and installed five. All piers are up to code and are 16 inches in diameter and 32 inches deep. We also added 6x6 welded wire mesh to concrete pour at no additional charge to the customer. Concrete porch also has #4 rebar drilled on two foot centers into the foundation. Besides the rebar there was also fiber mesh added to the concrete mix. The allegations made by the homeowner regarding the vapor barrier is totally false and we have receipts to prove it. Concrete was poured to the top of the vapor barrier. The additional step/stoop was added per the homeowner's request. At no time did we try to add two steps coming out of the house instead of one. Homeowner said that they wanted the porch this way because they were going to have a new front door installed so we did as instructed. Our Foreman told the owner that the customer said, "I always get what I want by being a b****" and she knew she would get the owner on the job. The owner saw this job through and the owner obtained permission to dump excess dirt and debris from piers into a ravine at the back of the property. At no time would we or did we cause harm to homeowners property. In 2015 we have had a tremendous amount of rain and our contract states that for every one day of rain customers job can be postponed up to five days. The contract also states that there will be extra charges incurred for working in these types of weather conditions. At no time did homeowner incur additional charges. I truly believe homeowner became upset due to her project being delayed ten days. We as a company try our best to communicate any delays to the homeowner but at no time do we control the weather.

The beginning of my experience with this company was great but when they are done and get their money, the disappear and leave you with a m a mess. Then they lead you on so you don't write bad reviews about them. Be forewarned- those little picture books of before and afters shots of jobs they have done are grossly inaccurate. Their customer service// complaint follow up sucks. Definitely do not use them if you are a single female or have a daughter or wife at home alone.
Description of Work: I requested to have a 10 x 15 concrete patio pored with a new sidewalk. Justice came out promptly and gave me a bid which I really appreciated. I signed a contract that day. The day the workers came to work, one of them brought his 8 year old daughter to the job site. It was raining that day and the little girl had nowhere to go so let her come inside and play with my four year old. Later that day, the worker asked me out on a date. Unprofessional. After the work was completed I tried to make arrangements to meet I guess the worker man in charge to pay him- he insisted that he come by my house at 8-9 at night 2 separate times to pick up my check as payment for services.. I ended up leaving it in the mailbox and left my house when I knew he was on his way over because his behavior was odd. He too then texted me and asked me out on a date. Again unprofessional. I noticed that they did not clean up after themselves very well. I found cigarette butts everywhere not to mention they spread their extra rock on my gravel driveway without my permission (I was planning to turn that part of my driveway into yard). Not only did they spread the extra rock they did so in a sloppy manner. I also noticed that they poured extra liquid concrete in the overgrowth as well as chunks of concrete. The overgrowth has since been removed and now I have to deal with the mess they left . Approximately 2 weeks after they completed the job I called justice and informed him of my concerns. He said he would make sure it was fixed and that he would get back to me the following day. He never followed up. I then had to have my DAD call to try to resolve the issue at which point he spoke with Shawn and Shawn promised he would rectify the situation not once but twice. He was supposed to come out last week and clean up the mess but never called and never showed up. He called yesterday to apologize and blamed ibis absence on inclement weather and he promised he would show up today 6.2.2015 to clean up the mess. He has yet to call or show up.

I read the reviews on G&P concrete at Angie's list and gave them a call. I was impressed with how fast Justice called and came out. He spent considerable time looking at what we wanted to do in building a foundation and flat work for a new garage and what our options were. He talked about what great things they would do with a somewhat expensive drain. He said it was a simple project and they could do the work. Essesentially concrete for a 24X32 garage on a 3 acre lot. He promised me an estimate within a day or two. I received nothing. After a week or so I called to see if he had my correct e-mail address and he gave me some lame excuse about e-mail and promised the estimate probably by end of the day. That is almost a month ago. I've left voice mail. I've sent e-mail. I've left a note on the G&P web site. If a responsible business doesn't want to do a job all they have to do is say they are too busy or don't want to do any small jobs or whatever. But to waste my time discussing it at the site and then promise over and over to send a bid is just a waste of my time. I've lost weeks in getting this garage built. I could have been looking elsewhere all of this time.

My experience with them was so-so. The patio itself I was very pleased with. The concrete work was very good. But there are still remaining sprays on the outside of my house. They never cleaned it off to my satisfaction. When I complained about it, they said that this type of material that I have on the outside of my home would be damaged if they cleaned it any more intensely. I don't know that that's true and I don't know that it's not true. I think they could have been a little better about trying to get that off of the house.

This project turned out great. My wife and I are very happy with the outcome. G & P Concrete delivered on their promise. They were a great group of people, fun to work with, and very courteous. It was great to see a group of people working hard together along with their boss ! The job was taken as a "winter project" and it went much better than I expected. G&P took advantage of every good weather day and were able to complete the job much quicker than I ever expected. They started the job on 12/20/2014 and were finished by 1/14/2015. We treated each other fairly, and they made my wife and I very happy that we selected them to do our project. I would definitely use them for any future concrete projects and highly recommend them to anyone else needing such services. Thanks Shawn and Team !

First impression of the company was great: very fast estimate, smiling people, good price, and a lot of promises to make us very happy customers. The actual job took many weeks due to the rainy weather, but also lack of organization in the company. They started too many jobs at the same time, and couldn't keep up with the schedule. Instead of digging with shovels, as promised, they brought a little tractor to speed things up, and destroyed our backyard, ours and neighbors' side yards, plus broke several TV cables even though all the utilities were clearly marked. They were very inconsiderate, e.g., they would come at 7am on a Saturday to saw stones, waking up the whole neighborhood in the process, and then leave for the day. They probably can do a good job, however in our case they chose not to. The retaining walls they were building turned out OK, but the yard was completely destroyed. They did not grade the yard as they promised. It took us days in trying to level our backyard, so we can walk on it . The sod they put onto on our neighbor's side yard was just thrown on without soil preparation, and most of it died quickly. Later we noticed that the drain system in our side yard doesn't work. We had to dig it up and completely re-do as it was destroyed by their tractor. Very unprofessional job. Will never hire again or recommend them to anybody.

I am very sorry for your experience with our Company and wish you would have told us that you were unhappy with us almost two years ago and why did you wait until now it is really beyond me. I spoke with you and your husband several times and each time you said you were pleased so I think there might have been a lack of communication there. As far as the mountain we built the walls on it would have been a lot easier to do if your neighbor did not keep his sprinkler on 24 hours a day 7 days a week and we both spoke with him several times but yet nothing changed and with only one way into the backyard it sure did make our lives horrible for the time we were on the job. Also, we could have completed it within a week but when you show up and can not access the backyard due to the sprinkler do you not think we were a little upset as well with all the lost time, man hours, and fuel we just wasted. I would also like to add that the one wall that was oringally bid turned into two seperate walls that required a lot more work plus we added almost a 100 sq ft on to the original bid which we never could quite see eye to eye on and I ended up just settling on what ever you and your husand had to offer which did not even cover my cost's. As far as the cable line goes yes I had to pay for that three times because each time Charter came out they just laid it on top of the dirt which I then covered with plywood but it was just to muddy due to your neighbor watering his yard 24 hours a day 7 days a week and there was nothing either of us could due it is his property. Again I wish we could have made you happy and that is our main focus unfortunately I think we were both unhappy as far as the drain goes we ran over 100 feet of draintile and hand dug every bit and collected not one dollar all you had to do was connect a y pipe which I made very clear I thought and I told you we were not going to do anymore work that was not on the contract because when I asked for the extras on the sqaure footage you flat out told me no we are paying you what is on the contract so we did exactly what was on the contract and more but at some point we as a company can not operate for free. The last thing I would like to add is why did you wait so long to post this review and second why when I asked you if everything looked good you told me Yes? I can tell this was one of the most difficult jobs I have ever done due to the amount of water on the side of this mountain. I really hate this for both parties involved and I just wish there was some way we could have communicated better. Best Regards G&P Concrete.

My new driveway looks wonderful and adds a new dimension to my home. Thank you. Great customer service as well as workmanship. Attention to detail was super.
Description of Work: The workmen arrived on time, completely remover old driveway and sidewalk. They carefully removed my sod for placing the concrete forms. They poured the concrete and then laid the sod back. They also cleaned up my yard and removed all the old concrete and any other debris.

Received a quick call back in response to request for estimate. JC came out and discussed what I wanted, made suggestions, measured and gave me a quote. Not the highest or the lowest but reasonable. JC was always quick to respond to calls or emails. We had to wait several weeks but good companies are busy so can't complain. The crew arrived as scheduled and went right to work. Nice, professional group of guys. It took three days and I had a couple of issues after the crew left (slight concrete "splash" on garage siding and did not complete burying the drain line and some other minor points). I called JC who called me right back and that evening Shawn, one of the owners, showed up to see what he could do to make us happy. We had a detailed and very pleasant discussion and worked out a solution that made everyone happy. Shawn was back the next day with a crew and they took care of everything to our satisfaction. I would definitely hire again.
Description of Work: Excavated old asphalt over concrete driveway from street to detached garage in back yard and poured new concrete driveway with broom finish plus added single carport, repair of concrete step, added new step and trashcan pad. Also installed 21 feet of trenched drain.

It went well. They did all the above in a little over 3 days and came back a couple of weeks later to seal the cracks where the concrete met the garage and front porch and house. - Efficient work on concrete driveway - Made "field changes" effectively, insuring proper drainage and dealing with unforeseen excavation issues - Provided follow-up work at no charge - Would recommend their work.
Description of Work: Removed old asphalt driveway, old concrete apron, old front walk. Replaced all with aggregate concrete.

The process went fine until the end. The concrete was poured but staff wasn't able to complete sealant due to rain. Staff came back to our house while we weren't home and installed the sealant without telling us. No note or phone call to advise us not to walk on it. We sent our three dogs out when we got home, only to find the dogs paws were covered with sealant. After a couple of hours of bathing and wiping paws down with alcohol, we were able to move most of the sealant. We were lucky with no damage to the interior of the home. I did call J.C. after our findings and knowing there was no after result to the dogs and he immediately had the staff that installed the sealant come to our home to apologize, which I was grateful for. I'm hoping that a lesson was learned on communication. The patio came out great and we are glad we did it!

The guy was really nice when he came and he went up there and he fixed it so bad. In case it did rain it won't slip through. They're very nice and personable. They haven't billed me yet. I would use them in the future.

I chose this company because of the stellar reviews on Angie's List and I am glad I did. From the bid through completion of the work they did a great job. The price was about the same as the other bids for regular concrete but considerably cheaper for stamped concrete. It actually made the stamped concrete fall within our budget. They gave us suggestions on the color and pattern and sent us up to their supplier so we could actually see what the patterns and colors looked like. On the day of the job, the guys could not have been more professional and nice. They took over my street with the trucks and equipment, but they had a guy out there cleaning up the street throughout the job and it was nearly spotless by the time they left. I waited a few months to write this review to see what the concrete did after it had a chance to settle for a few months. It still looks great and we are very pleased with their work.

G&P did a professional job. They did what they promised. Their crew seemed genuinely interested in providing a quality job. The work was done on schedule. The job took 2 days start to finish. They clearly had the tools, skill and motivation to get the job done correctly. I am well satisfied with the final results.

They did a good job. They communicated very well. kept to their schedule. We went off 3 bids and they were definitely the most responsive. These guys they came with us explained exactly what they were going to do. They had one guy who was in charge of the crew, the day they did the final pore he was here from 7am to 9pm. We really like having one guy that was the point of contact.

Shawn was great to work with during the estimating/scheduling process. I can't really comment on the work crew themselves, since I wasn't at home when the job was performed, but I couldn't be happier with the final result.
Description of Work: G&P replaced my cracked front porch; the job involved installing temporary supports for the roof over the porch, removing the existing support columns, tearing out the old porch, pouring new concrete, and replacing the support columns.

This was my first experience with receiving bids for concrete work. JC Redwine was great- friendly, punctual and obviously knows what he's doing. He was honest, confessing that because of the distance (St. Peters vs. me in St. Louis) I would likely find a more competitive bid locally. He walked me through the work that would need to be done and offered to bid my backyard sidewalk as a separate but additional piece to the initial bid. While it was higher priced than bids received subsequently, I appreciated JC's candor. I would call G&P again for concrete jobs, especially if I was closer to St. Peters.
Description of Work: Showed up and walked me through the bidding process. Bid completed for concrete stairs and patio replacement.
