After bringing in 5 different companies for estimates, Jeramie Koogler and SRS stood out from the crowd for his honesty, novel solution to my situation, and consideration of my specific concerns relating to cost and removal of a staircase in my home. Jeramie was able to offer a solution that was not "canned" based on a company specialty like I felt I was offered by many of the other companies. Even though 1 of the other companies told me they had no idea how to remedy the problem and 2 of the other 3 companies told me the best they could do was stabilize, not straighten, the collapsing wall, SRS now has my wall back to its original position. Additionally, 2 of those 3 companies said I would need to entirely remove an oak staircase that runs along the collapsing wall, SRS was able to do the repair with me only having to remove the drywall and studs directly along the wall. This alone probably saved me approximately $2000 to have the staircase rebuilt. SRS also went beyond the basic repairs with my cracks. Many of the cracks that were either going to be ignored by other companies or "injected" were repaired with both epoxy and carbon fiber by SRS. I could go on and on but suffice it to say that the ingenuity and attention to detail offered by SRS were above and beyond my expectations that were established by my other estimate encounters. The best part, all of this additional care and detail came at a price that was less than comparable (I am being liberal with the use of that word) remedies offered by other companies. I also did not get any upsell or an opportunity to throw unnecessary money at problems that might exist just because it is a company specialty. With respect to the actual work, SRS once again excelled. My contract said it would take 5-7 days to complete my job and the men from SRS had it knocked out in 4 days. Chris, who is Jeramie's partner supervised my site and was there a minimum of several hours every day while his crew of Dave, Jordan, Jesse, and Leo worked their tails off on some of the hottest days of the summer (July 25, 26 & Aug 1, 2). Not only did these guys work hard but they were personable with me and always willing to answer questions as I was "that guy" that watched during the entire process. I had a good feeling about this company from my initial consult with Jeramie and it was verified by observing the relationship between the crew and co-owner Chris at my work site. One could tell that SRS understands the importance of relationships with and respect for its employees. SRS may not be a company you see on television, a billboard, or hear about on the radio but they are a company you want to have do your job if you care about ingenuity and comprehensiveness of solution, fair pricing, professionalism and honesty. Thank you for what you did for me.
Description of Work: SRS dug out my settling garage pad and installed a grade beam to anchor a foundation wall that was collapsing inward. They also did an epoxy/carbon-fiber repair on numerous cracks, a popped pocket and damage resulting from the collapsing wall. They also installed 4 piers to support a screened in porch that was pulling away from the back of the house and putting pressure on the foundation causing is to crack. Finally, they back-filled and compacted the garage then poured a new pad in addition to installing a rubber protective expansion joint between the driveway and the new garage floor.

I got them as a referral from the structural engineer that inspected the home. With the weather being factored in, it took them about a week. The service they provided is a fiber technique as opposed to epoxy. I recommend the fiber because the appearance of it is much better, and it lasts the life of the structure of the home. The contractors that fixed the cracks used textured paint on the walls and you can hardly see the work as opposed to epoxy that you can see through the paint. The owner home owner that buys the home will know about it, but at least they won't see it. They were very professional, they were on time, and they had to parts of the work because of the weather. They had to wait for the water to dry before they did the work, and they came the same day that I called them and fixed it before the next storm, and it has held up so far.

I initiated contact with Jeremie through Angie's List and he was very responsive. He asked for pictures of the work to be done and he quoted my job and scheduled the work all via email. It was very easy and convenient and over before I knew it. I am pretty tough on service providers and think he did really well with/for me. I would certainly contact him again if I needed more work.

It went good, real good. They came in and did the work. It was kind of spotty but that wasn't their fault because of weather and we had some trouble with permits. They didn't think they needed one and they did so that set us back a couple of days but other than that it went well. They were right on time.

Very helpful during bidding process, available for questions. Kept us aware of scheduling changes due to weather. Crew was polite, and kept work area neat, including venting out through a basement window. They were extremely thorough, and overly cautious when it came to preventing any potential future water issues. They noticed additional problems uncovered during their work project, suggested solutions to us, and completed them. Answered lots of inquisitive questions throughout, and the entire crew was very knowledgable about the process.

I have never written a negative review on Angie's list. Usually I find that the higher rated companies are professional and reliable. I must admit, I did not have a good experience this morning with the representative from SRS. We had an appt set for today at 9am. I had to run down the street and when I returned at 9:05 ( I know this because I checked my phone and I had received a call at this time when I was in my driveway) and he was not there. I figured he was just late and after 40 minutes and a couple calls into his office, he called me back. When the representative called me back, he informed me that he waited for me for 20 minutes and then left. This surprised me because I knew I was literally only a few minutes late. He then told me he had arrived at my house at 8:45am. When I told him that while I understood he had may have waited for me for 20 minutes, it wasn't my fault that he was there waitin 15 minutes before our scheduled appointment time. Ultimately, I asked why he didn't just call me to ask where I was before leaving. After all, he had called me and taken my number when we originally set up the appt. He didn't have an answer. He then told me he didn't want to argue, he figured I just "stood him up" and that he gets "no showed" all the times. He said he was frustrated that he had "driven all the way to our house for a no show" and then said, "I just don't think I'm the right company for you." I have to admit, that is one I have never heard before. If I told a customer in my line of work that I didn't want their business because they were 5 minutes late for a meeting, I would be out of business. Two days ago I had an appt with Helitech for the same bid with Randy Pantano. Randy arrived 10 minutes early and called me. I told him I would be there in a few minutes and he said, "great, no rush, just wanted to make sure I had the right appt time and the right address." In my mind, this is how the conversation should have gone with SRS. This will likely be a $10,000 to $15,000 pier job based on the other bids I have received. I guess they must be very busy to turn down $15,000 worth of business over 5 minutes. I think he was right, he definitely was not the right company for us.

Im sorry that your upset but like you said I was there on scheduled time and you were gone getting coffee. I had to leave to go to another appointment if I would have stayed and waited on you , I would have been late to my next appt and the another customer with a legitimate issue of me being late.

Excellent. One of the best experiences working with a contractor so far. On the phone Jeremy initially gave me a few options that seemed reasonable. Did not try to oversell any one option. Upon making the first visit he explained the internal drain tile option as probably the best suited for our problem. He sent a quote and also some pictures from earlier work to give us an idea. Their bid was reasonably priced compared to some others that we obtained. On the day of the work the crew were professional, arrived on time, covered up to prevent dust going out of the work area and finished the work on time. We discussed a minor adjustment which came up during the work and Jeremy promised to address it at a later time. We haven't had a chance to test the installation and sump pump yet. They back up their work with a lifetime transferable warranty which is probably the best in the business.
Description of Work: To solve a small but consistent water seepage in our basement root cellar, they made a sump pit, installed sump pump in the basement root cellar. Also performed some crack sealing with epoxy and drilled weep holes in the retaining walls by driveway.

The guys showed up on time and were very friendly. They instructed me to turn off the a/c because of the dust that would be created when the concrete was broken up. The only initial confusion was where the sump pumps would go and where they would discharge, which I was able to explain thanks to a very thorough walkthrough with Jeramie when he provided the bid. There was also confusion as to the length of the job. Jeremie planned for this to be a three-day job while the men doing the work were surprised, and because of the size of the job expected it to be a four-day gig. More on that later. The first day was spent breaking out the concrete. The main living space in the basement was covered pretty well, and all HVAC points were covered, but the back room which was also finished space (and a room where work was being done) wasn't covered at all. We spent a significant time cleaning it after the fact because so much was left uncovered. Day 2 was spent breaking up the rest of the concrete because it was such a large job and then the restoration process started. The only negative aside from not knowing it was a good time to turn the a/c back on was that the hole cut through the exterior wall for the exit pipe was left wide open and unfilled, a space where a number of smaller critters could've easily gotten in. I had to call to have it properly covered prior to the work being finished. Day 3 saw the rest of the work being completed, but it felt very rushed. We had to call and have the men come back to finish off some things in areas where the concrete finish was kind of shoddy and where the holes for the exit pipes weren't properly sealed after the pipe was run through, once again leaving us potentially exposed to critters getting in. Seeing as we had just had mice removed, that was unacceptable. That said, Jermaie was always responsive and made sure our requests were filled. When I emailed months later because I noticed some hairline cracks in the concrete, he assured me that would happen and was nothing to worry about but if they became anything more than that his men would come out and caulk them properly. The main negative comment I have is how the one exit pipe was installed. As I mentioned previously, it's only a few feet away from the house thanks to proximity of the house next door and the slope of the ground. The slope is what we're now noticing is the issue. First off, thanks to the considerable amount of precipitation we received (snow and rain), and a higher water table on that side of the house, after a heavy rain water just pools up on that side of the house once the sump pump kicks it out, and it's caused the area around the pop-up pipe to erode. Jeramie recommended putting in some rock around it, which I did a few weeks back. The other issue is that the area by the gate to our back yard is experiencing similar erosion thanks to all the water that the sump pump has pushed out. I'm a little concerned that we'll have to have someone come out to either work on the gate (which we had installed two years back) or have something done to ensure better draining on that side of the house. It's better that the water isn't getting into the house, but I didn't think we'd have to outlay a large sum of money to fix drainage so soon after the install of the water control system. Which leads me to my final and main positive point. Since the system was installed in July of 2013, we haven't had any water in the basement, in spite of the fact that we received nearly record snow and precipitation this past winter and that we're on a nearly record pace for March/April rain. That's the best thing I could say. The system functions the way it was intended, and pushes the water out without it even getting into a living space. And the design Jeramie came up with was much better than another provider who wanted to run an exit pipe under our front porch, and wasn't planning on caring for what became the main areas where water gets in.
Description of Work: Thanks to the basement flooding twice since April, the second time actually happened right after we got the bid from SRS, we decided it was time to sink some money into a water control system and stop paying to have the carpet dried and mold remediated. As you would expect after the rain we were getting, SRS was backed up and it would be a little time before they could start, but we asked to get on the schedule as soon as they were available. As for the work, this is what was done: SRS installed nearly 140 ft of multiflow drainage, removing the existing concrete approximately 14" away from the foundation wall to expose the footing. Eggshell bridging material was installed to the existing footing and then the concrete was replaced. Two sump pumps on either side of the house were installed, one discharging into the side yard (though only a few feet away from the foundation wall) and the other was tied into a corner downspout.

The guy seems to know what he was doing when he came out. Jeramie Koogler is his name. He had a solution for my problem. They came on the day they said they would, even though it was cold and chilly. They put in 3 piers which involved a lot of digging. They got everything done in one day. They restored the area as best they could. I was satisfied with it. They cleaned up after themselves. They did a good job.

It all went very well and I highly recommend SRS! Jeramie Koogler is very professional and intelligent and was super-responsive to all our my questions and inquiries. He went out of his way to help me understand the things I wanted to understand in depth. The professionalism of SRS also extended to the crew doing the work. Not only did they show up on time and work hard throughout the days, but they also demonstrated a lot of concern for doing very good, high-quality work. I would call on SRS again for more help with my home in the future.
Description of Work: SRS took care of a number of things I needed to have done: 1. They installed a helical pier on my front corner foundation. 2. They installed a multi-flow drainage system within the interior perimeter of my basement, along with a new sump pit. 3. They installed helical wall anchors in my basement foundation wall. 4. They installed a number of cast iron brick ties ("stars") and ties thru joists. 5. They installed a microlam header to reinforce second-story joists of my home.

It went well. The owner, Jeramy, provided preliminary advice that we did not receive from the four other companies we asked for estimates, which ultimately saved $ and grief. Also took care of local permits that were required and contacted Dig Rite, per our request. The crew arrived punctually, followed a structural engineer's guidance, worked with the inspector, and cleaned up/completed the job early the following day. Due to frigid temperatures this winter, the inspector couldn't provide a final approval until several days later, and Jeramy accommodated our need to ensure approval before sending final payment. Good communication throughout. Courteous people. Glad we went with this company instead of others whose proposals appeared to be off target and whose estimates were too high.

Ralph and Jason pulled up to the house right on time as promised. They immediately began working around 12:15PM. To install the piers, they had to dig down below the footings on the porch holding up the brick columns. This was difficult work to do as my home is surrounded with hard clay soil. They did this work with short handled shovels. The next step required the placement of the piers necessary to support the weight of the brick columns. This was done using an air compressor and a drill head to drive the piers into the ground. The piers had to be placed on bedrock to carry the weight of the columns, so drilling the piers down into the earth was required. This step was quite labor intensive as the equipment was heavy and cumbersome to work with. Both professionals required operating the drill head to auger the steel pier down to the depth required to hit bedrock. The next step required the installation of the jacking apparatus using brackets, threaded rods and nuts. Once the piers were in place, the raising of the brick columns along with the porch slab began. This turned out to require a delicate touch on the jacks. The resetting of the brick columns was quite dramatic and was completed with an audible thud! I frequently checked on the progress of Ralph and Jason's work during the afternoon, and except for a scheduled break, they never stopped working for the entire 5 hours they were here. They were always pleasant and took pride in describing the process to me as they moved along. I really enjoyed having them at my home. I felt total confidence in their skill and I appreciated their complete professionalism. Before they left around 5:30 PM, they refilled the hole that was dug, replaced the mulch and sprinkler head, and completely hosed the entire work area clean of mud and dirt from the excavation. When they pulled away, its as if they had not been here. I wholeheartedly recommend Structural Restoration Systems to anyone requiring foundation repair. I hope that I never have to have this type of work done again, but if I do, I will definitely call Structural Restoration to complete the work. Their bid was over $500 less than the bid I received for the larger well-known name. Today, I received in the mail an unconditional waiver of lien to warrant the work done should we decide to sell this home as proof of the work done if required by a future lender.
Description of Work: Attached two piering systems to sagging brick columns on the front porch. Jacked the columns up to close cracks in the mortar.

It was a fantastic experience from start to finish! Jeramie came to provide an estimate. I called 5 different providers and almost all wanted to stabilize the walls in different ways, but they all were around the same cost. We decided the SRS system would provide us with the best reliability to ensure a dry basement. They came the first week in September and completed the work in the amount of time they said. There was minimal mess when they were done because they cleaned up everything! The people that performed the work were fantastic! One of the cracks started to leak a day or two after they finished because we had a rain storm. We called Jeramie and he had people come and not only repair that crack, but it appears they added a little to some other cracks. Our basement has been bone dry for the past 2 months and Jeramie has provided a lifetime guarentee that I feel very confident in. Based on our experience with this company, if we have any problems or concerns we are confident they will take care of it without any issues.

I called three foundation companies with great reviews from Angie's List including Structural Restorations Systems. The head of the company, Jeramie, came over and looked over the situation and explained what he would recommend doing. He answered all my questions and I got a good feeling from him as a service provider. He sent me an estimate and an explanation of what would be done. Because of earlier Angie's list reviews, Jeramie's earnestness and the reasonable price, I signed a contract. Jeramie told me SRS could could be work in three weeks. The work took 3 days and I was away for jury duty much of the time. The employees were friendly, well-dressed and very focused. I found them to be very trustworthy. They drilled piers down 36 feet to hit bedrock. Each day, they cleaned up after themselves and at the end of the job, my basement was cleaner than when they started. What was very important to me was that Jeramie was always available by phone to answer any questions I had.
Description of Work: I have a row house in Benton Park that was built in 1898 and remodeled in 2004. In the last two years, the house began to slowly ease to a sinkhole. I needed to stabilize my house with piers drilled down to the bedrock.

We purchased a new house. There was a crack in one basement wall that had been repaired but it looked like the seal was cracked. Our inspector suggested we have it resealed. I called Structural Restoration Systems to get an estimate for the work. Jeramie returned our call not long after I left the voice mail. He told me that to seal one crack it would be $400. He asked if the crack was previously repaired. I told him yes, but it looked like the seal was cracked again. Jeramie told me that contractors put a surface seal on the crack after the crack has been repaired. And it was probably just the surface seal that was cracked. He suggested we get in the house for awhile and keep an eye on it. It if starts to leak, give him a call. The previous owner said they never had a problem with the crack leaking. I will follow Jeramie's advice and keep an eye on the crack. I will use Structural Restoration Systems for sure if it does need to be repaired. It is nice to work with honest people.
Description of Work: I called to obtain an estimate to seal an existing crack in our basement.

The bid was prepared by the owner, Jeramie Koogler. It was a lower bid than another and I found Mr. Koogler's presentation to be honest and straightforward. He assured me that we do not need a sump pump at this time and that the foundation leaks were not unusual. He presented his method of repair in a reasonable way and offered to seal a second cold joint where no leak had as yet developed, at no additional charge. The work was completed in a professional manner in about four hours' time. Background: we discovered water in our lower level in June. A carpet company removed the carpeting and a general contractor removed parts of the wallboard and insulation and all of the baseboard. The contractor identified the leaks and suggested that we contact foundation specialists. Using Angie's List, we contacted four companies. One could not send a representative to our home until late September. A second proposed a repair requiring that a part of our deck be removed and a hole dug along the foundation. When I indicated that I did not want to remove the deck, this contractor chose not to enter a bid. A third presented a good bid that was higher than Structural Restoration's bid, but this contractor was unable to complete our job for several weeks. All three contractors gave similar assessments of our situation, so we had confidence that Jeramie's bid was a good one.
Description of Work: Sealed two cold joints: a leak had developed in one of them. Sealed a stress fracture.

It went even better than I could've expected! All of the Structural Restoration System men were prompt, courteous, respectful of both me and my home, extremely hard-working, very knowledgeable, as well as very pleasant. I have never in my life seen such hard-working men. They arrived as scheduled, and immediately went to work. It took nearly 2 full days for them to remove my old uneven heaved-up concrete floor (turns out there were two layers of old floor). They hauled off all of the old broken-up concrete, and left the driveway and yard as clean as a whistle. After the floor was removed, they were kind enough to allow me to have a plumbing company come in and replace all of the under-the-basement-floor drain pipe -- the old pipe was cast iron, 87 years old, and had obviously collapsed in several places. The plumbers took two days to complete their work, after which Structural Restoration Systems returned. Each day when I came home from work, I would peek into the basement to see the progress, and they made incredible progress daily! It was such an enormous job -- it's still hard for me to believe they accomplished all the work in less than 2 weeks. After everything was finished, they replaced my glass block window (and they did a much better job than the man who originally installed it!), and built me a very nice new landing for the foot of the basement steps (the old one had been built to sit on the old crooked floor, and wouldn't fit well on the new level floor). I have enormous confidence and trust in Jeramie Koogler and all of the hard-working men of Structural Restoration Systems. This was the second time they did work on my house, and I was more than pleased, both times. I am hoping to have them come back next year to install an egress window (or two!) in my basement, now that it's bone-dry and can be used as living space. I wouldn't dream of having anyone but them do that work for me.
Description of Work: SRS completely removed my entire old concrete basement floor, including soil as needed to set elevation for new floor They drilled weep holes into the bottom of my cinderblock cells, and installed a drain system around the inside perimeter of the entire basement, including a new sump pump with a sealed lid. They also installed 2 new support posts. After the drain system was finished, they installed crushed rock and compact and installed 6 mil vapor barrier, and lined the bottom of the walls with eggshell bridging material. Then they poured a new 4"-thick concrete floor. After the floor was finished, they installed 4'-wide sheets of FRP (fiber reinforced plastic) white drain board against the interior foundation walls. As I have no outside basement door, they had to remove one of my glass block basement windows in order to pour the concrete etc. After all the work was finished they replaced the window, as well as built a new landing at the foot of my stairs to replace the old one.
