The service was fine, but pricey.
Description of Work: The provider installed an outside outlet for our sump pump. The service was great, but we paid an additional $250.00 on top of the $99 for the special. I think I could have got the work done for about $250.00 somewhere else. They were professional, but really tried to upsale a home warranty which I did not want.

The service was great. Charles was a great guy with lots of experience. He explained what he was going to do and why. He presented me with the costs of the service before he started. He arrived on time. He performed all tasks professionally and he fixed or installed new light fixtures both inside and outside of the house. He consulted me on preferences and kept informed of the status of the projects. I will definitely use this company again.
Description of Work: The provider checked the wiring to and fixed light fixtures which were not working, checked the breaker box for issues of concern and installed 2 new light fixtures.

The technicians of Mr. Electric were very professional. There were invitations for up-sales; but, that is to be expected when a company offers a promotional special. The work was done well and efficiently. Mr. Electric will be our first contact in the future should we have additional needs for an electrician.

On the phone and the response time was very good but when I got to the office the rep. presented me with a maintenance plan and the charge for each task. It was like I was being sold a plan when I exspected to pay time and materials like any other service man I have ever worked with in the past. In my hast and the fact that I already had an investment in the project I ageed to let him start. When he informed me one light needed to be replaced and he had to go get the fixture. I ask him if there would be a labor charge to pick up 3 bateries while he was getting the light and he said yes so I went out and bought them myself. He was also going to charge to replace 3 batteries to finish the job, it took me all of 15 minutes to do it myself. $478.91 for this simple job was ridiculous and I had to finish it myself.
Description of Work: Checked 3 safety lights and 4 exits signs in my office. Replaced one light fixture and replaced one battery. I didn't realize until he got to my office that they charge by the task, not by the hour. I went out and bought my own batteries and installed three of the batteries myself when I was told the additional cost to finish the job. It took me all of 15 minutes. to put the batteries in.

I received a phone call from Mr Electric advising that, if it was convenient for me (which it was), their serviceman could come a little earlier than my scheduled appointment. Upon arrival, he gave me a card identifying himself, laid down a door mat outside the front door and wiped his feet clean, then covered his shoes with clean, disposal covers to prevent tracking anything in onto my floors. I needed the exhaust fan in my bathroom replaced but had not yet purchased a new one because I had questions about what kind to buy. After answering my questions and determining my main goal in replacing the fan, he gave me the option of buying one myself or having him go purchase one for me. I chose for him to go buy the appropriate fan, and he returned in much less time than it would have taken me. Again, the shoes were covered before entering my home. He replaced the exhaust fan, taking care that it had a polished, finished look when the job was completed. He left the work area cleaner than it was when he arrived! He was informative, cordial, and respectful in every way possible. I had showed him the circuit box for the part of the house he was working in, which is very old, as well as a newer circuit box for the rest of the house. He informed me of options (and reasons) for updating the system, which I had been considering, and gave me a bid for performing that work if I chose to do so later. I felt no pressure to have further work done, but fully intend to have him return and perform the updates. This was my first experience using an Angie's list deal and I have no regrets. I would definitely recommend Mr. Electric of Southwest Missouri to anyone looking for electrical work of any kind. The serviceman was knowledgeable and was able to communicate that knowledge to me effectively and respectfully. As a side note, the morning after Mr. Electric replaced my exhaust fan, I discovered that the outlets in the bathroom were not working. I called the office of Mr. Electric to inform them and the serviceman returned promptly, working me in between his previously scheduled appointments, resolving the problem at no additional charge. I have no question that my satisfaction with a job well done was the number one priority.

This was suposed to be a Super Deal. It was a super NO Deal! Prepaid $49 for $250 worth of electric work. Service man was very pleasant and professional. My appt was for 9am, set 2 weeks earlier. About 8:45 got a call that said he was running late and would be here at 10. He arrived and put down his mat at the entrance door and put on shoe covers. I told him that I was not happy with the answer I got about how much they charge. He said they charge by the job which is what I was told on the phone but still couldn't give me an estimate of what the charge would be. I explained that I wanted to add a 120v dedicated receptacle in the wall about 8 foot from the breaker box that had room for more breakers. I also wanted to change the microwave from it's current line to another line, should have been a fairly simple and easy to get to in the attic. He went about checking out the breaker box seemed to be confused about the main shut off and thought it was only rated for 60 amps. after going outside and checking the box out there he said it was 100 amp. After about 30 or 40 min he put all the info in his computer and said that the price to do the 120v line would be $648. I thought I would choke, but asked him about the microwave. He said that would be another 300 some odd dollars. Roughly $1000 for work that I estimated not to take more than 3 hours labor and less than $30 in parts, and that's being generous. I promptly told him there was no way I was paying that amount for that work. He reminded me that they are licensed and insured and the work was guaranteed. I said thank you but you won't be doing the work. He thanked me and gathered up his stuff and left.
Description of Work: Checked out my breaker box and gave me an estimate or quote.

My conversations with the office (Laura) were clear and helpful. Travis was on time. His expertise was matched by a strong work ethic. Curious and devoted to doing good work, he consistently demonstrated concern for leaving the home's electrical system in the best possible condition. With no upsell or upcharge, for example, he carefully examined my breaker box and found something that needed an adjustment. The following is a small-seeming example, but it well represents his style of work. Adding the outside outlet involved temporarily removing a light. He was happy to mount a new light I had purchased in place of the old one. The new light, however, had a peculiarity in build that made it hang with a slight tilt; Travis could have simply moved on to the tasks actually on the contract, BUT he devoted additional time to figure out a way to make the new fixture hang perfectly. That's the way it was with everything -- not just "done", "done really, really well." I rated Mr. Electric a "B" on price, only because it was not inexpensive, and that's not a criticism. To be clear, I was happy to pay the price because it included me not having to worry about the quality of the work -- and that's worth a lot. We are totally satisfied.

We had quite a laundry list of things to be done. We didn't ask about the circuit box till later. Nathaniel arrived exactly on time. We were given a call earlier to let us know he was on his way. On arrival he out down a certain mat and wore booties over his shoes to protect our carpets. As he was required to be in and out quite a few times he had to take them off and out them back on frequently. We told him what we would like to have done and he entered everything on his iPad. He was able to give us a price for everything before he started work. After we agreed he began working. He was methodical and worked every steadily. Later in the day I was ask did any of our breakers ever tripped. Well, no they haven't. I'm not an electrician. It I know some basics and I should have long ago caught that the wrong size breakers were on the box in that they were for more amperage than the wiring was supposed to carry. The main breaker didn't have much life left as it was buzzing pretty good. We went ahead and had that all changed out too. This all took time. He arrived at 9 am and didn't get done until 9 pm. Nathaniel called another technician to help him do the circuit breaker box and the breakers. Somehow he took that rat's nest of wires and organized them in a neat and orderly manner with everything labeled properly. I'm convinced that a catastrophe was averted by catching the breakers. I've seen what can happen first hand so we are especially thankful for Nathaniel catching it. While the pricing seemed a bit high in the beginning it seems to me that we more than got our money's worth. We haven't had any problems since the service and we're very confident that we won't have any going forward with the work already completed. We have plans for more to be done in the near future. The date of the service is approximate it I think it's pretty close. I'm too lazy to look,up to receipt to be exact.
Description of Work: Installed bathroom fan, put in plus and receptacle for stove, installed a whole house breaker in case lightning hits, installed outlet for generator in the cutout box, installed new circuit breaker box and all new properly sized breakers.

When you call the service you should have a pretty complete idea of what you want done. Doing so helps ensure that there is a proper amount of time allotted to complete the job. I was called and told Nathanael was on his way and he turned into my driveway soon after and on time. The first thing he did was unroll a mat at the front door to clean his feet with and he also put on paper "booties" to protect my carpeting and floors. Understand that he was taking the "booties" off and then putting them on again all day as he worked outside and inside on the jobs I needed completed. Nathanael explained the pricing and what was/wasn't included. I had the option of not having any portion of the work done to lessen the price, however, I was willing to pay the price for good work. Some others doing reviews have thought the pricing high, and I admit I did too at the beginning. Since I wasn't at my best that day I left Nathanael to do the jobs as he saw fit. At one point he even caught a small leak from a new roof I'd had put on. He worked methodically and persistently at the jobs until he was finished. Once the bathrooms were finished he moved to the outside cutoff box the electric company had installed for me. It was there that the whole house surge protector was installed, as well as the connector for our generator. Lastly it was time to remove the old circuit box and breakers replacing them with new equipment. What looked like a Medusa's head of wires were quickly, efficiently and neatly connected to the breakers and the box with everything labeled as to what circuit it controlled. As I mentioned previously, Nathanael noticed that the breakers were rated higher than the wire connected to them. The main breaker was giving indications that it would soon fail as well. That's why I had him replace the box and breakers. The fact is that there was no way this situation would turn out well left the way it was. The repairs he did potentially saved our home from a future fire and maybe even some lives. Nathanael had another tech, Travis, come help him in the latter stages of the job. After the work was all completed everything was completely cleaned up. That they knew what they were doing was never questioned. The level of professionalism and pride in the work they performed is seldom seen these days. At the end of the work, I had no problem writing the check. I have a few minor tasks to have done in the future and this is unquestionably the service I will use. We are genuinely happy that we had the opportunity to meet some terrific people.
Description of Work: I'd called to have a number of things done: A whole house surge protector Install the connector for my generator to my cut-off box Install a light/fan combination in one of the bathrooms Move electrical service from the ceiling to the wall in both bathrooms. As things worked out I was home due to stress. Nathanael looked at the work and then worked up a price for the work on his iPad. The pricing is by the job, not by the hour. It seemed quite fair and I had him go ahead with the work. As Nathanael was turning breakers on and off to complete the job, he saw that the breakers in the box exceeded the rated capacity for the wiring. Evidently when this house was built the contractors used 30 amp breakers on 12 gauge wiring. Even I know that that isn't right, but it wasn't something I'd noticed when we bought the house about 7 years ago. Since the main breaker was buzzing and giving indications of failure in the near future, we had him install a new service box with new breakers of the right capacity.

I will be contacting another electrician, setting another appointment, and hope our projects are not delayed further.
Description of Work: We have projects going on at our house and found some electrical concerns so I called Mr. Electric and set an appointment. My husband took the appointment day off to be present. We received the call (as was told when setting the appt) to let us know when the electrician would be heading our way. The dispatcher told us what time the electrician would be at our house and mentioned that he stopped to help a lady with a flat. An hour after the time that was given I called Mr. Electric again, they had no idea the electrician was not at our house and called him to follow up. The dispatcher called me back and stated, 'the electrician was still at the last job.' That didn't match the first statement I was given. I reminded her of the first statement and then she wove the two statements 'oh, that did happen when he was out getting parts for the job he was working on.' I expressed I had lost all confidence due to the fact that the first call was to tell me she had spoken to him and he was on his way to my house. Needless to say I cancelled the appointment because there were too many questions before work even started. I felt it was very unprofessional for a business with such a good reputation and it is important to us to support local businesses.

Response from Mr. Electric of Southwest Missouri
I am very sorry that you have experienced this misunderstanding and difficulty. I was working on the first job when I needed to get more parts. This is when my dispatcher called to let you know I would be running later than anticipated. As I was returning from getting the parts it was raining, when I stopped to help a lady change her flat tire. So as I was returning to my first job, I called the dispatcher to give her the details to keep you informed for my arrival. These are all accurate facts, and I apologize for this inconvenience it was to you.

Tom was prompt on all appointments, did the service faster than expected, made no mess in the home and cleaned up all messes very promptly leaving my garage a bit cleaner than how he actually found it. All work was very neat, he coordinated well with our Electric Coop for installing the new meter.
Description of Work: I had a fairly complicated installation of 150amp service from my meter to my garage involving running large wires from a new meter to and through the attic, to my garage then installation of a second breaker box just for this service. A 50 amp NEMA 14-50 outlet was installed off of this breaker box and he is to return at a later date to install a 100amp charger for a Tesla Model S all electric car. The installation exceeded my expectations (had only expected a 100 amp service with a switch between the 50 amp outlet and wall charger) at a price just a couple hundred dollars more than prior estimates, but with much more professional service. He also was able to run the wires from the attic to the garage behind the sheet-rock which I wasn't expecting, making a much cleaner and nicer installation.
