Affordable Kitchen And Baths

Description of Work: We walked into the store and were immediately impressed with the prices which were considerably lower than other stores, even other scratch and dent stores, so we were excited about the store at first. A saleswoman approached us and we explained we were looking mainly for appliances, but we were gutting our kitchen and needed everything. But we were on a severely restricted budget and were going to buy unfinished oak cabinets from Hood's to save money. She swore up and down she could match those prices with their finished and warrantied cabinets plus they offered free design services. I was very doubtful and expressed my disbelief but she was insistent they could do better. She said it was her last day working for the store so she handed me over to Robin Callier. I believe Robin is a family member because the store is owned by another store called Callier & Thompson so I thought I was in good hands. We told her what we were looking for and gave her our budget of $5,000 and she said she would give us her best prices and work something up and email us the design. I did express acknowledgement of how much we were asking for with such a small budget, but she did not indicate that she thought it would be much more. So with the impression the first lady gave us and from what we saw of the prices of their appliances I was thinking I had found a great deal. When she sent the design I was very impressed. We made a few modifications and settled on a design and then she went to price out a quote. When I received her quote I opened it up and I was shocked!! It was over $11,000 which is more than twice our budget and when I went to compare the pricing of their cabinets to the Hood's cabinets they were over twice as much. So I was extremely disappointed, and even a little embarassed because it was very obvious we were asking for champagne on a beer budget. At this point I was more embarrassed than mad. So I responded to her quote by thanking her for all the hard work but explained that it was way beyond our budget and asked if she had any suggestions to lower the price. (I did notice that she had only us 10% off the appliances and no kind of discount on the cabinets so I thought she could maybe give us a discount on those also.) I also explained to her about the first saleswoman and the misleading impression she gave us about the cabinets, partly to let her know there was a reason behind our obviously unreal expectations, and partly to persuade her to give us better pricing. Remodeling work is notorious for bargaining for better pricing, right? The only thing she did was apologized if I "felt" mislead, which is when I really did get angry. It wasn't a matter of how I "felt", her employee truly did mislead me! Then she proceeded to explain that she re-worked the design "by eliminating things" and got the quote down to about $8,500. What she did was strip out half of the kitchen and swapped out all of the appliances for cheaper models and still no kind of discount except the 10% on the appliances. I thanked her again for her work (ignoring her poor customer service in my opinion), told her that we were going to have to go another route and get the unfinished cabinets, but were still interested in getting appliances and asked her to let me know if they were still available. The only reason I still wanted to deal with them was because I couldn't find better prices anywhere. She didn't respond and I had to send her another message asking about the appliances, although at this point I had changed my mind about the stainless steel and wanted black appliances. She did respond stating they only had a dishwasher in black and there was not much else to her message. I never responded back because I was thoroughly disgusted at this point. To top it all off I've been hearing commercials for 25% off of their cabinets recently so that makes it even worsel...so much for her giving me her "best prices"!
