I called into AAA Heating and Cooling inquiring about setting up an appointment to get a quote on a new water heater since I had just noticed that mine started to leak (after 20 years). To my surprise, they where able to send out someone that day to give me a bid on the work. I had mentioned to the service man about the deal on Angies List and he made sure to provide the bid within the terms of the deal making the needed adjustments for additional equipment (expansion tank) and the permit (no surprises there with the original water heater being so old). The service man also took pressure measurements to make sure that I was within an appropriate PSI range without needing a pressure reducing valve since my home currently doesn?t have one (I didn't need one). After things checked out he let me know he could be back the following day to do the installation so I went ahead and agreed to have the work done. Later on in the evening I received a confirmation call from AAA confirming my appointment for the following day between Noon and 4pm. On the following day the service man returned (called before arriving to confirm my availability) and proceeded to do the work. I work out of my basement and I was able to keep my office door open the entire time while he did the work (very quiet process). After the new hot water heater was installed he removed the original water heater and also swept up the working area leaving it in better shape than when he started. He did some additional testing to make sure all of the solder seals were sound then took some time to cover how the new water heater functions. The work was very professional, nice clean pipe work and he even made the needed adjustments for my water feed for the whole house humidifier (which feeds off the same line that goes into the water heater). AAA rating for the work and to the service man (Bob). I will be using them again if I ever have future appliance/plumbing/heating/cooling needs.
Description of Work: Had a new Natural Gas Hot Water Heater installed using the Angies List Deal (upgraded to the 50 gallon).

Was e-mailed their "Big Deal" offer for a 40 gal. water heater plus installation. Decided to check it out. The sign-up site said the deal would expire in about 15 min. so there was no time to check out the provider. I signed up & had to pay even before the work was scheduled. They were to call in the A.M. to schedule. I then went to check them out on Angie's List. In the meantime, I saw on the Big Deal site that the deal was NOT expiring in 15 min. Listed under AAA Heating & Plumbing they had an average B rating. I found another listing of AAA Plumbing, under the same ownership & address with a 100% F rating. There was yet another listing under a related category with poor ratings. I contacted Angie's List to cancel the Deal & get a refund. Today I went back to check AAA Heating & Cooling &, lo & behold, they mysteriously have a 100% A rating. What does this say about the reliability & integrity of Angie's List? I have contacted Angies List about getting my credit card charge refunded. They said they would.
Description of Work: They mis-represented the end time of their offer. They did nothing to acknowledge the purchase of the Deal or to acknowledge the subsequent cancellation.

When I bought the deal I informed AAA Plumbing that it would be a mobile home in Fenton, Jefferson County, MO. (Most of Fenton is in St. Louis County), and a 30-gallon, not a 40-gallon. When I talked with owner Jeff Probst at AAA to schedule, he set me up for the next day. Great I thought. He also informed me that a 30-gallon mobile home water heater would be $75 more than the Big Deal because it is a special design. OK I said. The fine print in the Big Deal indicated that permits were extra, and that if anything was found that needed to be brought up to code, that also would be extra. When the installer arrived on August 27, he checked the line water pressure (50 psi) which was OK. He inspected to old heater and informed me that an expansion tank was needed for the new tank--an extra charge. I mentioned that this property was in Jefferson County and he was not sure the expansion tank was code in that county. He did not give me the cost of the expansion tank (online costs for such tanks vary from $26 to $107. An A.O. Smith tank--same as water heater--is $64.95.) He finished the job within 2-1/2 hours (nominal). When Bob gave me the bill for the additional charges above the $649 Big Deal it was detailed as follows: "Installed 30 gallon electric water heater with thermo expansion tank $210.00. Haul off old tank $45.00. Mobile tank install $75.00. Permit $75.00, total $405.00 additional." I pointed out that the "old tank haul off" was included in the Angie's List Big Deal so he deducted $45.00, leaving the additional charges at $360.00. I am still convinced that some of the "extra" charges are included in the $649 Big Deal, especially the "Install" for $210. I did write a check for the $360. Perhaps a mistake. Maybe it should have been charged on a credit card, if there are things to be worked out. I did not get the promised "Whole house plumbing inspection," as Bob left after the water heater install. I have not contacted Jeff Probst about these charges. In my initial contact with Jeff, he seemed fuzzy about what the Big Deal included. These facts are why I rated the cost at "C." .
Description of Work: Purchased an Angie's List Big Deal to install a gas or electric A.O. Smith 40 gallon water heater and installation and whole house plumbing inspection for $649. Order #833379. Provider scheduled install the next day after my purchase. Installed a 30-gallon electric water heater in a mobile home I own in Jefferson County Fenton, plus a thermal expansion tank. Removed and hauled away the old tank.

AAA Appliance has a great service team for home repairs. I have been thrilled with both Mitch and MIke. My disconnect in the past (and continues to be) with the office staff. While I was scheduled for same day service, they could not call me to relate that the service technician (Mike) was going to be later than my schedule time (12-4). This would not have been so irritating if I hadn't called back to confirm the time and ask when it would most likely be. I did not know it was going to be later until I called-- AFTER 4pm. Still, I was extremely appreciative of Mike's high level of service and professionalism and called back for a second service later in the week. They could only provide 4-hour timeframes and told me that they were never late. (Even though they were today). Note: The technician apologized profusely. The office person acted like I was interrupting her day. Back to scheduling the second service, I asked if they could call me the night before the service and either have a shorter timeframe window (2-3 hours) or be told where I would be in the dispatch route (1st, 2nd, 3rd call, etc.). No luck. It was like speaking another language that they have never heard. I tried again. I told them that while I really liked their service techs, there was a gap in service. I did not expect an exact time frame now, but would like to have a better timeframe the day before my service. Not a chance. They condescendingly replied that this is how they've always done business and this is how they'll keep doing it. If you have more than 4 hours to wait at home for a repair, this is the team for you. If you have a job (or anything) that may require advanced planning, go with someone who values their customers and appreciates their time. After all, how do you think I'm able to pay for a service without doing my own job?
Description of Work: My dryer would not heat to dry the clothes. This has been an issue before. Mike (great, great guy) came out to fix it. Replaced the thermostat, cleaned quite thoroughly, and provided a detailed explanation of what he was doing. Shame is, that this provider would have been rated all "excellent/5" and nominated for the circle of happiness if it weren't for the rude, condescending office staff. The technicians are outstanding, personable, professional, and well worth the service call fee. It's a shame, because I tried to schedule a second service with AAA. It was after 15 minutes of sheer frustration that I called another company, booked a job with them for an EXACT time frame of 10am (and cheaper). The only cons are completely and solely resting on the inability to understand that customers should be treated better when they call AND understand that most people today do not have 4+ hours to devote to appliance repairs and need a better timeframe. Sears, Best Buy, Lowe's, A&E Factory Repair all give better timeframes the day before they arrive. AAA's two office people informed me that they don't care what others do, this is how they do business and that they are not going to change. Ok, fine. I will change (and did).

I have over $5,000 in repairs due to their negligence in work. I called them back to tell them that the valve they installed was leaking and thought it needed to be packed. They came out and looked at it and told me that it is fine and that these things do not turn off easily. I am now worried about mold behind the wallboard because the tiles are coming up from the leaking.

We discovered our dishwasher was not functioning on a Sunday evening. First thing Monday morning, I joined Angie's List for help in finding a technician. After reading reviews, I called AAA Home Services at 7:30 a.m. They had a technician out by 8:30 a.m. He was polite, professional, pleasant and capable, Within 10 minutes, he had looked at our dishwasher and diagnosed the problem. He told us the parts would be ordered and that Siemens (dishwasher manufacturer) was especially fast in getting parts to them, so he'd be back in a couple of days to fix it. However, we were disappointed that their office took 24 hours to get the information to us for our approval before the parts were even ordered. The same technician returned Thursday morning for the repair. Our adult daughter was sitting in an adjoining room where she could see into our kitchen. The technician did not see that she was there. As he went to the dishwasher and prepared to make the repair, he asked my husband to turn our water off. My husband left the kitchen and went to our basement to quickly turn off the water. In the brief time he was away, my daughter looked up to find the technician had opened our kitchen medicine cabinet, pulled out a couple of our prescription bottles and was looking at the labels. Once he heard my husband returning, he quickly replaced the bottles and went back to his repairs. We don't know how he knew where our medications were located. He made the repairs and left. After he left, my daughter told my husband what she had seen and my husband called the company manager right away to let him know what had taken place in our home. He expressed appreciation for the call and assured my husband he would take care of it. He also offered a discount on our next service call. I don't think there will be an opportunity for that. My husband was a little irritated that our first experience after joining Angie's List was this unfortunate. The repair itself was fine. It was the difficulty with the personnel that soured it.
Description of Work: Repairman quickly diagnosed the reason our dishwasher was not functioning and told us the parts would be ordered and he would return in a couple of days to fix it. It was 24 hours before we received a call from their office with the price for the parts and the labor. The quote was $100 more than the "ballpark" figure the technician gave us. When my husband expressed concern about the how long it took their office to get back with us and that the price was so much higher, the man who had given the quote became irritated and unpleasant with my husband. My husband and I are middle-aged and have been home-owners for more than 30 years. We have had many service technicians in our homes for repairs and have grown accustomed to receiving quotes quickly and being assured that the parts would be ordered that day. With AAA, since the call with the quote came a day later and our approval was required before the parts were ordered, a day was lost for getting the parts in. So our repair was on Thursday instead of the anticipated Wednesday after the technician diagnosed the problem on Monday morning.

Our built-in-to-the-wall microwave was sparking. Lee came and diagnosed a bad part, then returned to install. The microwave works well, again! It was difficult to find a company who would work on microwaves - I am grateful that they do! He, also, returned to double-check the repair when I had concerns. I appreciate the time he took to explain the issue and how to prevent it in the future.

We orignally scheduled AAA to come to the house and get a quote to repair a gas line to our gas logs in the fireplace on10/31/2012. Service was complete by 11/26/2012. I was concerned that if I repaired the gas line myself I may not have enough copper to properly make the fitting and there was very little room for error. AAA recommended that we replace the line, which I thought may not be necessary, but an understandable suggestion. When the quote came back for $260+service call, I thought that it was a little more than I wanted to spend, but ultimately we would have a new gas line and it would be properly taken care of. On the second trip to the house, it was determined that the project of replacing the line would not be as easy as originally thought. AAA had gotten the project to a point where there was now no way to repair the existing line. (To be completely fair, there may not have really been an option to repair it to begin with.) I'm not sure why they originally quoted $260 to do what needed to be done, but it appeared that the AAA technician had not completely thought through the whole process. We ended up working directly with Jeff to resolve the situtation which resulted in 6 total trips to the house and the final cost coming to $757.50 including the first service charge. I like to give credit where credit is due and the team and AAA professionally handled the problem at hand where most companies would have simply left me half way through the job and had me find someone else to pick up the pieces. AAA stuck with it and finished the job. Thank you! I do believe in hindsight that it was resonable for me to expect AAA to be able to bid the job correctly in the first place. That being said, I don't think they took advantage of me or made a tremendous ammount of extra money on this job considering all the trips they made to the house. In the end, AAA determined the most cost effective means to get a gas line to the fireplace was to come directly from the meter, underground and in through a hole drilled in the masonry fireplace. If I were to nit-pick this job, I would have two thoughts: (1) AAA dug through a mulchbed next to the house that had been recently mulched, and now it is muddy and needs to be remulched, (2) They put a copper line inside of PVC underground and where the pipe goes in and comes out of the ground looks kind of junky. I'll have a project this spring to make these look better or to hide, them. All and all I'm glad AAA stuck with the project despite all of the problems. It's hard to find contractors that don't run away at the first sign of a problem. We're happy to have our gas logs warming the rug near the Christmas tree this Christmas.

Description of Work: I have a green washer - lid lock was non functioning; technician came tested and ordered a new lid lock and motherboard for washer; told me to be sure if another technician came to tell him to install lid lock first to see if that was the issue (he also wrote on invoice) in the event that the problem was the lid lock and not the motherboard.

They came out and assessed the problem and offered me two different kinds, a Trane or a goodman. Matt said they were a few hundred dollar difference. Told him we wanted a Trane and wrote out a contract that was not legible. When I told him I couldn't read the contract he told me I could go over to the office and have them blow up the contract for me. They brought two broken parts out when they did the actual work. They installed the inside unit and then installed the outside unit, but couldn't get the gas from the inside to come to the outside unit. They took out the outside unit and replaced it, which two long days. I ended up with an American Standard, not even what I had requested. I assumed that they had given me the Trane I asked for. When I called to talk to hem, they wouldn't talk to me. Matt finally called me back and said, "well they are basically the same."
Description of Work: They did a complete replacement for my air conditioner.

Very well. Polite, efficient and professional.
Description of Work: Tech was very helpful. He knew exactly what the issue was and had the part on the truck. He also took the time to check other major appliances to see if there was anything else needed or recommended. He provided a few suggestions on things I could do to prolong the AC working at maximum levels and of course, the ice maker on the fridge!I was actually a bit surprised.

I've used this company at least 5 times for various services during the past 2 years and the service/pricing is hit or miss. My most recent service call was for replacements of a couple of sink pop-up assmemblies and snaking a sink to unclog it. Jim charged $317.65 total (AFTER applying a so-called 20% service policy discount) including $264 for the two pop-up assemblies that I later discovered can easily be found online for $20-$30 each. I was basically charged $100 addional per unit ($200 total) based on fair market value. I was also charged $90 (pre-discount) for snaking a drain which took about 2-3 minutes. The only thing keeping me from giving this company an "F" grade is that I had a positive experience with electrical and ceiling fan service provided by Brian earlier this year. Being a forgiving person, I decided to give the company another chance despite feeling ripped off by the most recent experience and was considering purchasing one of its' service policies for two rental properties that I own. After calling twice to speak with the proprietor and being put on the hold for more than 10 minutes before he finally answered, his tone was so unwelcoming (seemed annoyed that someone was calling him) and his very blunt "What about it?" response when I asked about his service policy caused me to tell him that his tone came across like someone who didn't want to do business and immediately ended the conversation. A smart business-person would have reached back out to a customer at that point to clear things up which is why I am not surprised that I have not heard back from him. Kevin W
