He quoted me a price to fix the problem at hand, however, I also asked him to replace a broken board on my roof as well as bolt a few loose slacks on my deck. He did those extra jobs without any additional charges. He drove to the hardware store to find the appropriate wood i need to fix the broken wood on the roof. I gave him additional monies for this, even though there was no extra charge. IHe also gave me a receipt for the work performed, which included the extra work. He completed the work in a timely manner and followed up with a phone call to inform me of the completed work since I had to leave to go to work. I would use SuperDave for future work and definately recommend him to others. thank you lavada
Description of Work: With all of the storms we've had recently, a piece of my fasicia on my roof had blown off and the other part was flapping against the house repeatedly everytime the wind blows. + 0 moreSent e-mail requesting estimate for interior painting. Received prompt response from Super Dave per answering machine. Unable to do job due to previous commitments for the next 6 weeks. Then recommended another painting company and gave our home number and contact information to this company WITHOUT speaking to us personally or asking our permission. Then we had to deal with calls from an unwanted company. We felt this was unprofessional and did not respect our privacy. Personal information should never be given out without first talking to the customer. Complaint was filed with the Better Business Bureau over professional pracatices after readying company's response.

+ 2 moreWe first called SuperDave because we had noticed some water damage on the wall in the living room. He came within a day of calling, went up on our roof to check it out, took pictures of any possible sources of leaking, and he noticed that we had some hail damage, so he recommended that we call our insurance agent to file a claim. He explained to us exactly what we needed to do to get the insurance claim filed. We did just that, and SuperDave then worked with the insurance estimate to prepare his estimate. He presented us with the estimate, explained everything in detail, and we hired him. He was able to do all of the work we wanted with the amount that the insurance had given us. Wow! SuperDave then arranged for the delivery of a construction dumpster, shingles, and he brought over all of his tools and supplies and used our garage to store his stuff. The first day of the job, he, Sue, and Jimmy arrived at 7AM and got to work on our garage. We had a new garage roof before noon. This was Labor Day weekend, so I didn't really expect that they would work all weekend, but they did, and on Labor Day, they put in a full day's work stripping shingles off of one side of the house, they replaced all of the rotten and damaged wood, and they got the felt layer down so that it would be water-tight for the night. Work continued like this until the job was complete. Since we originally had called SuperDave to identify and fix some areas where there were water leaks, he was on the lookout for these areas as he worked on the roof. Most of these areas were near the chimneys and front of the house, so he put an extra protective barrier down where there were seams that could let water in. He also replaced our non-existing chimney flashing with copper that was custom-made and fitted to our house. And, he didn't like how the dormer was covered with shingles, so he replaced that with copper as well. His workmanship is impeccable, and we now have the best looking chimneys and dormer on the block. We also had some plaster damage repaired on the interior wall. SuperDave's plaster guy did excellent work, and the room looks wonderful. I was expecting the work to be dustier, but they cleaned up everything for us. One of the main reasons why we wanted SuperDave to work on our house was because we felt he would treat our house with respect and care, and we were right. He and his crew treated our house like it was theirs. Everyday, they left the work site cleaner than it had been before they started working on the house. They even cleaned the debris in our attic after the roof was installed! Overall, we could not be more pleased. SuperDave and his crew do amazing work! He only uses the best materials, notices and fixes every little detail as if it were on his own home, and he wants his work to be perfect. He truly takes pride in his work, and we highly recommend him for any job you may have around your home.
Description of Work: SuperDave and his crew stripped the old roof on our house, replaced any rotten wood, replaced the roof on the house (steep pitched roof), stripped and replaced the roof on the garage, installed a power vent in our attic, installed custom-made new copper flashing on our chimneys, repaired plaster and water damage in the living room, and painted the front wall of our living room and entry way.

+ 1 moreAfter reading all the great reviews on Angie’s list, I called Dave to look at a leaking roof at my late parents’ house. I explained to Dave that my brother and I were in the process of cleaning and fixing it up in order to sell it. Dave came the following Saturday, quickly discovered the roof problem, gave an estimate and sealed the leaking section (for free!) until a permanent repair could be made. The most amazing part is that several days later Dave called with an offer to purchase the house “as is” and we settled on a fair purchase price. We let him work on the house before the closing and I couldn't believe all the improvements and changes he made within a few weeks. He installed a new roof on the house and garage, remodeled the interior of the garage, cleaned out the basement and backyard, replaced doors and painted most of the rooms and basement. Throughout the process of selling my childhood home to Dave I was impressed with his enthusiasm, honesty, workmanship and work ethic

He's willing to come up with solutions for any problem...he has done most of the work needed, but know's his limits and suggests other resources when necessary. Dave has very creative ideas about how to solve problems presented by an old house. Always does what he says he will do, arrives on time, leaves a clean house even with messy plastering and insulation projects. He takes pride in his work and makes an effort to satisfy his customers.

Description of Work: When I contacted Super Dave he answered me right away. I 'd received a bad roof job, and the roof still leaked, and was just in terrible condition basically. Dave was able to go look at the roof, EMAILED ME PICTURES (so very helpful!) and make recommendations on several different ways we could go about fixing it or replacing it. Dave was terrific, explained all the necessary stuff to me and did a terrific job repairing the roof and a very fair price...Overall SUPERDAVE was truly super, he was calm, polite, and realized the value of a dollar. He was EFFECIENT, PROFESSIONAL, and completed the repairs on my roof and a very FAIR PRICE. I recommend Dave for jobs would hire him again.

+ -1 moreIt was a good experience. Dave was available on a Sunday which is surprising to find a contractor available on the weekends. He was prompt and very professional. Based on the conversation, he seemed very knowledgeable in the roofing repair industry. Since the leak was in a closet, the ceiling paint was discolored. Dave gave us a partial can of primer free of charge to apply to this area. He also offered to remove and haul away an old TV antenna on the roof free of charge. His cost originally seemed a bit steep, however, since it was a Sunday and perhaps considered off-peak hours and during an extremely rainy period we considered it acceptable. Also it's a comfort knowing that he provides a one year leak warranty.
Description of Work: Some shingles were lifted causing a leak in a bedroom closet. The shingles were lifted on the valley; Removed debris; Roofing cement was applied along valley. Removed tv antenna from roof and hauled away.

+ 4 moreDave created an initial sketch of the new porch railing that we approved but UCity building dept. told us that it did not meet code because of the decorative design could be used by children to climb over the railing. So we had Dave redraw the design to use a style that is also used in the railing of the stairs that go to our basement. The city accepted that design and Dave picked up the work permit. In two days, Dave and his crew of three other people, demoed the old porch railing, and constructed the new railings using the custom design for the vertical boards; this required that Dave create a template for the new pieces and then reproduce each one individually as well as route the upper and lower rails to have an attractive shape. They also stained the large timbers, primed and painted the railings, fixed the broken concrete on the steps and surface, repaired the bathroom plaster and painted, and cleaned out the gutters. The concrete fountain was taken apart, the new pump installed and then reassembled. After filling with water it is working again. They were very busy and had long days. All the debris and trash was removed and the remaining paint stored in the garage. We are very happy with the new porch railing construction and appearance. Dave, Charlie, Sue, and Kathleen were a pleasure to work with.
Description of Work: The work was outside and inside. The inside work was to plaster damaged area in the upstairs bath, paint then reinstall the wall cabinet removed before doing the plaster work. Outside, the 70 year old front porch railings that were rotting (three sections) were to be removed and a new railing constructed to replace it. The new railing was also painted, and the concrete porch and steps were to be repaired. We also wanted the gutters cleaned out. The porch large timbers were also stained as they needed maintenance. I also wanted Dave to disassemble a concrete fountain and replace a bad pump with a replacement unit I had purchased last summer.

Dave actively communicates, his team is always very prompt / focused and all take great pride in their work. SuperDave and his team are ultra clean and sensitive to the disruption to your routine caused by home repair activity. They use tarps with all work and are great about cleaning up each day after work is complete. Trash is taken away, floors / job site swept, vacuumed or blown as necessary / appropriate. Quality and craftsmanship are top-notch. The skills of the team are very complimentary so you can always be sure that needed expertise is available. As a final note, SuperDave may appear to be a bit more expensive than competitors. However, I have always found that I have received great quality (plus a little extra) for the price paid. In the long run, I feel like I have actually saved money because work is completed when promised, doesn't have to be redone and stands up to the test of time. I highly recommend SuperDave!
Description of Work: Let me start by saying that I have been using the SuperDave team for over 12 years now. Any time I need something done right and done promptly I call SuperDave. Dave, Charlie and Sue are the best! This time, I had Dave and his team come in and do a series of maintenance, repair and decorating tasks. Dave and Charlie worked overtime and completed them all in one day....13 hours! I had just installed a new vanity in the master bathroom...and needed some finishing help. They nicely anchored the unit and then did some tile / back splash work to tie the unit into the existing decor. The tile cutting, mounting and grouting work were top-notch with a very precise caulking job to finish off the look. I also needed some plaster repair work done to the bathroom ceiling....no problem. Done quickly and with very little dust... The next stop was the kitchen. In an older home, there are always challenges with plaster cracking and square walls. I've had an ongoing facia cracking issue and the SuperDave team came up with a very creative wallboard overlay solution to take care of the issue. Wallboard attached, tape, primed and painted. Cracking gone and not coming back. Next cabinets were not level, doors didn't close and gaps existed between cabinets and ceiling. No more. Cabinets now look professionally installed and there are no gaps caused by unsquare walls. Next...installing a new sink and needed the counter opening widened. No problem for SuperDave. Perfect fit and polished install. New dishwasher just installed and fit wasn't right with current counter. Dave and Charlie to the rescue. Existing cabinet infrastructure redone and dishwasher fits just fine. Counter recaulked and it looks good as new. Next task....leaky roof in the foyer with plaster damage. Dave's up on the roof, fixes the leak and Charlie tears out damaged plaster, ensures area is dry, plasters, sands and primes. Issue resolved. Wrap up maintenance....new deadbolts on front and back doors. Front door was old and required chiseling....done quickly and both work great. Outdoor lighting damaged by the recent storms....now fully functional. Back screen door not closing properly...checked off the list. One very long day for SuperDave but one very satisfied customer....as always! A P.S. to this review..... As mentioned earlier SuperDave has done work for me at all homes that I have owned in St. Louis. He has always provided quality that exceeded expectations..... I have had Dave paint multiple homes for me......great quality which held up for 8+ years in each case. Facias, doorframes...removed, repaired, primed, painted. Shingle roof installed...check. Recommended architectural shingles...great idea. Chimney Caps and tuckpointing. Done as part of the painting work. No need to bring in another contractor. Installed new windows at two homes....brought samples to the house and took me on tour of producer Bathroom / Powder room remodels....gutted, new studs, drywall / taping / mudding, managed plumbers and electricians, developed plans / designs, dealt with U City permits / inspectors, installed marble / ceramic tiles, work with me on tile design, primed, painted and installed hardware. Rave reviews from family, friends, and neighbors! Closet redesign....custom built. Don't be fooled by the chains! SuperDave is the ultimate Handyman and so much more!

Description of Work: Dave first did a great job diagnosing where, exactly, my roof was leaking on my 80-year old U. City house. He did this in an ingenious way, getting his helper to climb in the attic, while Dave got on the roof with a hose. He had the leak pinpointed in 20 minutes, and in no time, he was on the roof repairing various parts of the roof/flashing. He did a great job, as usual, and the price was fantastic. He even provided, in writing, a one year warranty, such that if the same area leaked he would troubleshoot and repair the problem free of charge.

+ 1 moreWe have an older home, and based on recommendations from our neighbors, had used Superdave to repair our home before. Based on our previous experiences, we called him again to repair our roof. We had an aging roof, as well as water damage indoors (crumbling plaster). Our roof is very steep and has several dormers and valleys, which is especially tricky and results in a few places where a high volume of water collects in small areas, and are prone to leaks during large storms. Dave and his crew did an outstanding job covering the roof of our house and garage with new architectural shingles, and repaired the extensive plaster damage inside. Importantly, he checked and thoroughly cleaned all gutters. During this process he identified a clogged downspout, near the ground, which he was able to repair to ensure that all water flowed away properly. Also, while on the roof, he inspected our chimneys and identified some mortar damage, which he subsequently repaired to prevent further damage. We have received many compliments from our neighbors about the "curb appeal" our home now has. We are very happy with the outcome, and our house never looked (or functioned) better. Superdave is the person we always call when we have both major and minor home repairs.

+ 0 moreDave's business card says he's faster than a speeding bullet. I have to admit that I agree. I called his number on a Sunday expecting to leave a message. I was surprised to hear a real voice. When I explained my situation, that I had a spot on my ceiling showing there was a leak that I could not identify by going into the attic or up on the roof, Dave offered to immediately come over and take a look. On a Sunday! Dave looked at the spot on the ceiling, went up on the roof and into the attic. Although there were no obvious signs of problems (Dave even complimented the roofers) Dave took digital pictures of a valley where he identified that the shingles had debris under them. Dave's evaluation was that the shingles were being picked up by high winds (in Missouri? Say it isn't so) and then the water and leaves and dirt were running under the shingles. Dave's recommendation was to clean out the debris and put down additional roofing sealent. He placed all the debris into a trash bag on the roof (thank you Dave for NOT just tossing them off the roof into my garden) and used 3 tubes of sealant. The cost of this was $250. It seemed a little high but I was eager to have the problem taken care of. Then Dave assured me that the work came with a guarantee. That guarantee is that if the problem should reoccur, he would repair it AT NO COST. NOW the price of $250 seemed like an outstanding deal. I pay for all types of insurance, this was essentially a repair with insurance, I wish all my repair work came with that promise. I repainted the ceiling while Dave was making the repair (all done on that same Sunday). It has been about a two weeks now, we've had a few interesting weather patterns in that time and there has been no restaining of the roof. I'll keep an eye on it through the spring rains but I'm a happy customer.

+ 1 moreMy experience with Dave was fantastic from start to finish. He provided a detailed bid (at a very nice price), arrived on the target date as promised, and did an excellent job.
Description of Work: I own an older home in University City, built around 1932. What prompted me to call Dave (aka "SuperDave") in the first place were my basement walls--they were in awful shape, literally crumbling. Moisture problems too. Dave did extensive repair work on the cement, followed by moisture-proofing the walls, and finally with a really nice paint job. I cannot tell you how great my basement looks now!

+ 2 moreThe new interior railing makes going down the stairs much safer as we age. Oak stained to match the stair treads. The rebuilt deck passed city inspection with no problem. It is much sturdier than the original and looks great. They did the whole job in one week. Cleaned up the work site.
Description of Work: SuperDave and his workers removed our 24 year old cedar decking and stairs, replaced some of the frame, installed a new deck surface and railing and stairs with new cedar that they had stained and sealed. + 0 moreWe have had leaking dormers for 20 years, hiring numerous roofing companies to repair them, and none have been successful for much longer than the warranty period (a complete roof replacement "solved" the leaks for a few years). I found SuperDave through Angie's List last year after a recommended roofing company spent several years, numerous trips up the ladder, and countless tubes of caulk. They then decided on a "nuclear" option and gave me a take-it-or-leave-it quote for ~$1,700 which included replacing the dormer's window, all the siding, and all the shingles. Dave solved the problem in a pretty short time, and then fixed the next dormer (which was also leaking, but not as much). The cost was $215! We saved $1,500 and had TWO dormers repaired. It's been almost a year without leaks. Dave and his wife were wonderful people people with which to work, and I will certainly contact them when I need any sort of home repair, service, etc. Most highly recommended!
Description of Work: Dave diagnosed the problems we had with leaking our leaking roof/dormers and resolved them. Two of our three dormers were leaking, causing drywall damage in the rooms below.

+ 2 moreVery well. We have used Dave before and he has done much work in our neighborhood. We had Dave remodel a coat closet in Nov. 2007. Recently we had to have plumbing work done (see our other reports for details), and holes had to be cut into this closet's wall and ceiling. Dave came back to repair the holes and repaint the entire closet. While there, we had him take care of some other small things - a bathroom door that would not properly latch, and a problem with an electrical feed box that was not staying seated in the wall. Dave did a great job, showed up on time, did good work, with minimal mess. Only complaint is that through the course of his work, some debris ended up in our basement, and Dave did not clean this - he probably did not even notice it. It is an area we had cleared of items in preparation for the plumbing work that preceded Dave's work, so it was easy to clean ourselves, but it would have been nice if Dave had done so. It was surprising, since we have had Dave work in the past and there wasn't a spec of dust left behind.
Description of Work: Repaired holes cut into front entry closet, repainted. Other miscellaneous handy work.
