I'm not really sure what to say. Have you ever spent an hour talking to someone and then they leave, and you have more questions than before they showed up. That's kind how I felt after the MBA representative left. I think the best thing to say is that this is a company more suited towards doing large commercial jobs, rather than working on my little house. We just didn't seem to be on the same page at all, with what the goals of the project were. The representative was on time and very nice, and he was very respectful.

Dear Member, Thanks for taking the time to offer your comments on your experience with us. We are sorry we did not live up to your expectations and left you with more questions than before your appointment. What I liked about them was that, we did not know who would or what kind of craft would handle something like our project because it involved more than just the porch. They had everybody; they had architects and had everybody in their business. Therefore, they could talk to each other and figure out what was the best way to handle the project. They did continue to check back on us after the project was over. They had a person almost every day, supervising the site. I think they had some good quality workers working with them. I would use their services again in the future.
Description of Work: I used the services of MOSBY BUILDING ARTS towards the end of July. Our front porch was beginning to subside a little bit or it was called steep rotationer and they did about a $20000 project for us.

The projects were of the best quality and workmanship, and this is why I have used them. I have held off several projects in the past due to the frustrations working with contractors. I find that Mosby is great to work with on projects and would use them again. The only condition would be that I would put in a penalty for late delivery on a job.
Description of Work: We had a major reconstruction of a deck, patio, water features, which included removal of a large deck, new supports, etc.. It was a major project, using the best of materials, including 25-50 year lasting wood, steel supports, etc.. The work was of the best quality. The only complaint was the length of time with normally only a single worker on site. I have used them after this project, and the quality was always the best. The only problem was that your project would seem to get lost for months at a time, not hearing anything. I told the owner about this problem, indicating that he needed someone controlling the timing of projects.

I had a pretty unique situation with my basement and with how things were set up and Mosby Building Arts Company handled and fixed the problem for me. The space in the basement could only hold in a super small efficiency type dryer. Also, the stairs to the basement are so narrow that a large size dryer won?t fit. The hooks ups with the small dryer were too far away from the window, so it would have been too many turns to have the work done for the Missouri building codes. Mosby Building Arts Company gave me a whole gamble of options and I ended up going with the cheaper option. They gave me an option of reworking the whole system which included glass work that could have cost me a couple of thousand dollars. They also gave me an option of putting in a condenser unit for the dryer and leveling the floor in the basement, which we did. It was really nice that they came in and looked at the work and cleared out all the pros and cons for me. They gave me about three or four options at different price quotes that I can pick from. I was able to pick the one I wanted and went ahead with that. Another problem I had in the basement was that the floor was uneven. They had to build a platform and level an area of the floor for me so that I could get a flatter place to put the washer & dryer unit. They also went and bought the condenser unit that needed to be installed for the dryer and got it set up for me. So, I didn?t have to worry about running to the store and dealing with that. They told me that it was okay with them if I wanted to buy the condenser unit myself. However, I was only in town for about a week and I had to get the whole condo set up for a corporate lunch. I did not have the time to deal with it so I just paid them the labor cost to have them do it for me. They were extremely upfront with price and everything. They were really good people to work with. I would definitely use them in the future. Especially, after I've come to know that they can handle pretty much anything.
Description of Work: I hired Mosby Building Arts Company sometime in October, 2010 to install a washer & dryer unit in the basement of my building. They also had to level out the floor for the installation.

I had to have a new garage built. So, the siding had to be taken apart and redone. This was five years ago. I live in an old house, which has plastered walls. It was beginning to crack and leak. I called this company and had them do the siding work. I called them in August, but I had asked them to wait the summer was over. They agreed and they were very nice about waiting until the fall. They redid the siding. Apparently, the flashing work was not done properly earlier and water was getting down behind the flashing. So, they had to take everything off. I spent about $30, 000 on the job. They did new siding and redid the flashing. Everything was aluminum wrapped. They really worked at solving some problems that I had in the back porch. The windows were jutting out further than the building itself. They did an extra job of wrapping flashing around, so that the water would not go behind the window. They redid the drainage. They added new downspout. The problems were because of the work the earlier company had done. This company corrected all the problems that were not corrected before. I have had no problems with the siding. Atleast, I know that for the price I paid, I do not have to get the work redone. Also, they checked out other things on my house. They told me that the roof was great. They told me my house was in good shape. They fixed the flashing around the chimney better than I have seen anybody else do. They were the only people that filed away at the bricks, so that the flashing around the chimney would go under the brick. They really did the best job. The siding work looks so much better than that of the other company. I know I got quality work done for the money I paid. I will definitely call them again if I need more work done. They explained things to me and answered questions that I had. They followed up on things. They told me that they would come out again if there was any problem with the work that they did. Even the employees claim that the company has a lot of integrity. They tell the truth. I would recommend them to anybody.

This was a nightnare. Estimated at a 12-day job, it took more than one year to complete. This is not an exaggeration or a statement of frustration, it is an accurate account of the experience. The project was poorly managed, one worker arrived at our house and asked us if we knew what he was supposed to do??? Our yard was seriously rutted and large tools were left everywhere between visits by the workers. Long periods of time when no one showed up to work, no answers to phone calls, etc. Never an on-site project manager until things really got bad. Quality of work was VERY disappointing. When the disasterous project was discussed with Mr Mosby, he said "there are a few that get away from us every year". We finally settled with the Mosby firm and he gave us a credit. The paperwork that came with the credit contained the following clause "It is agreed the client will not desparage, smear or otherwise negatively affect the name, reputation or public standing of Mosby Building Arts or Scott Mosby now or in the future" We were not willing to sign with this clause in the document, Mr Mosby agreed to the deletion of this clause, so we did accept the terms of the agreement. Unfortunately, some of the stamped concrete is now falling off of the porch........ I am posting this only because Angie's List was asking for information on this company

Our front of the house all the ground is sinking and we discovered a yard of messing underneath the porch. We have to do something because it's sunk that much. They are yet to do something about it. We used their consultation services where they come out. They spent 4 hours going over the entire house evaluating the house including the attic, on the side, the downstairs, and anywhere we wanted. They spent the time telling us that it was potentially something we needed to do. One of the reasons we really liked them is that in their company they have all disciplines for building. We got an architect who consults with the topographer or the geologist. My husband is handicapped and we are trying to make the front entrance handicapped accessible, so they worked with all of them to come up with a design. You don't have to go from one place to another. They came to talk to us with the original plan for a new front entrance to dissolve the issues that we had going on there in January. They are going to come out again with a little bit updated plan. The duct work cost about $1000.00. They have done the evaluation on the whole house, which is a kind of home inspection. They will consult about whatever you want to ask and even bring up things on how to handle it. There was no pressure to use their group to do the work. What stood out the most was their professionalism and the fact that they can, if the person who is consulting with you is not quite sure which route to go, consult with all those people in their offices to make sure that a job is going to be a job well done and they are not going to have to come back. I am willing to pay for quality work. They are a little on the expensive side. You know you are willing to pay for good quality because you know you are not going to go back and have something redone by another person. In the long run it saves you money. The front steps have probably sunk because of the dry weather in the last couple of years and then the snow and the ice now. It's been sudden. If we don't do something now the water is going to get into the house.
Description of Work: Mosby Building Arts redid the laundry room dryer duct work for it to go out a different way to the outside in December. They also did the whole house evaluation and outside around the house.

They were fine to deal with, very nice. They are a fine company. I am sure they are very good at what they do; however, what they do and what I needed was just not negotiable cost-wise. They are a very good company but they are on the higher scale, too expensive. The estimate they gave me was $300,000. It was not a price range that I wanted to go to. I would not use them again in the future.

After getting multiple bids, we decided on Mosby not because they were the cheapest, (they weren't by far), but because from the very fist appointment, they were the most professional. They approached our job as an architectural firm, not just a home improvement company. From the design phase, to the final inspection, they exceeded our expectations. Professional employees who take pride in their work and it shows. Dedicated to making sure we were happy with every step along the way. Work areas were kept continuously clean and organized and they even worked voluntarily over some weekends as they knew they were running a bit behing their original estimated completion time. Excellent customer service and follow up to address any additional needs after project competion. Over the last 30 years, we have hired many, many contrractors and trust me when I say there is a difference with Mosby. They do cost more, but as the old addage says, "you get what you pay for". I will most definately use them again for any additional projects we have at home.

I contacted Mosby for this work, because I was impressed with the knowledge exhibited by Scott Mosby during his radio program on KMOX. I knew I had a problem with rotting wood around at least one of the windows, but I didn't know how bad it was and I wanted to deal with a company that had expertise to diagnose the problem, recommend a good solution, and repair the damage. They charged $325.00 for the initial consultation in April 2008. They provided an initial estimate to do the work based upon a best-case scenario of minimal damage. Because most of the affected area was covered by siding, the full extent of the damage could not be determined at that time, so I agreed to have Mosby remove some of the siding and then provide an estimate based upon the actual damage. The damage was more extensive than initially thought. This is where the dissatisfaction began. It appeared that there was damage to 3 or 4 and possibly 5 or the 7 lower windows. Mosby wanted to replace all 14 atrium windows and all the associated interior trim, although there was no evidence that the 7 upper windows, nor the structure supporting them, were damaged. A period of several months ensued, during which I investigated a number of alternatives with Mosby and with several window manufacturers in an effort to find new windows that would fit properly and would match the 7 atrium windows located immediately above. During this time, the entire area from which the siding had been removed, along with 6 large atrium windows, was covered with vinyl sheeting, and as nearly as I could determine, Mosby did very little to come up with any acceptable solution other than to replace all 14 windows-- a very expensive proposition and one that was not acceptable to me. We finally agreed to install 7 new custom-fitted Pella windows, which would not match the windows above exactly, but when properly trimmed, would match pretty closely. The actual construction work began in late September and was completed in October. The quality of Mosby's workmanship was above average. They did a very good job of installing the new windows, replacing and finishing the interior trim and re-siding the house. The older carpenters were very skilled, as was the man who did the interior wood finishing. The young fellows doing the exterior painting were careless about cleaning the siding properly before painting. I had been told initially that polyurethane sealant would be used on exterior joints, which was my preference, but instead they used a siliconized acrylic sealant. I also noticed, after it was too late to correct, that the exterior corner of the house where they replaced a rotting structural member, was slightly bowed. I conclude with my overall impressions of Mosby Building Arts. They have lots of expertise in a variety of areas, and they can do quality work. Their sales and supervisory personnel have a high opinion of their expertise, and their attitude reflects that. They are expensive. On my job, they had a number of different people shuttling on and off the job, and their supervision was inadequate. I don't regret using them on this job, because of its complexity, but I would be hesitant to use them again.
Description of Work: Mosby replaced the lower 7 large, double-glass windows and associated structural framing, siding and interior trim in the atrium of our home, which was necessitated by rotting of the window frames and structure due to water leakage. The 7 identical upper atrium windows did not require replacement.

Thank you for your comments regarding our work. Your feedback is a necessary means to gauge and improve our services for our ongoing and future clients. Our goal is 100% satisfaction, and we regret your experience was below this. We enjoyed working with you as a team member during the process, and particularly when it came to everyone joining forces in searching for an acceptable substitute window for your atrium. It can be difficult when repairs are necessary and fixtures become discontinued. At Mosby Building Arts, we understand this and strive to meet your needs and desires, and in this instance, we’re glad we somewhat succeeded by receiving an above average grade from you regarding the quality of Mosby workmanship. It can be hard for you when new problems are discovered during the process. We do everything we can to minimize the impact of this on you. In this case, we’re glad to report that we honored our original price for you even though our costs were approximately 22% higher than originally estimated. In the end, we hope you will consider us in the future for your home repairs and improvements. We care very much for you and your home and hope we made a positive difference in your life. Respectfully, Mosby Building Arts.

This was an outstanding experience. Our designer, Adrienne, and Tim, our project estimator for the home repair and maintenance service, fully understood our desire to prepare the house for market. In addition to the little things on our list, they reviewed our entire house as if they were going to purchase it...yet didn't "overdo" their recommendations. They were exceptionally creative in addressing some more puzzling problems, without going overboard. Once our "to do" list was complete, Oleg was assigned as our project manager. He arranged all of the various jobs and every professional that was brought into the project did an exceptional job. There were a couple of "hiccups" in the schedule when Oleg took a pre-planned extensive vacation, but, upon contact with Adrienne, those hiccups were quickly and professionally resolved. The Mosby team costs a bit more than a lot of "handyman" services, but, having had horrific experiences with more than one local "handyman" service, they were worth the extra price. This team is exceptional.
Description of Work: We used the Mosby repair and maintenance service and their home consultation service. As part of the home consultation, the Mosby team put together a wonderful remodeling plan, some of which was ultimately used in the repair and maintenance service. We subsequently decided to move from our current home. So, we followed up with Mosby to help us prepare the house for market and, while in the process of the initial assessment, we experienced a sewage backup that required replacement of flooring and baseboards, and some work on the sewage system to avoid a future mishap. The Mosby team handled all of that and more. They repaired water damage, cleaned chandeliers, painted walls, installed ceramic flooring, patched carpeting, sanded and refinished wood floors, replaced the front sidewalk and restored the landscaping, replaced lighting fixtures, replaced sink fixtures in the bathroom, painted baseboards.

I had Mosby out to do a bid on the siding for my house. They were nice over the phone but I didn't completely like their sales pitch. They claimed that I was being "done a favor" by removing the fee for their consultation. I believe that fee was $200. They did show up on the scheduled date and did do a free estimate. They were more costly then Thomas Construction and did not have good reviews compared to them. I ended up going with Thomas instead.

Mosby was very professional and responsive, after we contacted them every aspect of the work was completed as promised. We changed the scope of the work to fit our budget but loved the people, the work and the follow through. The cost was much higher than we expected to have to pay and I suspect that it has to do with architectural drawings, salespeople and the overall number of people involved in a Mosby project. We originally found them when looking for the energy audit. The energy audit was so impressive and gave us so much information about cutting energy costs that we hired them for the job. We would need to save up before hiring them again.
Description of Work: Mosby did an energy assessment for us, then took out old drywall etc from attic space, insulated with spray-on insulation, re-drywalled,installed new lighting and trim. They drew up plans for project and gave us a complete report of the work that was done.

The project was very well managed by Rick (overall) and Doug (site manager) two of the most professional contractors we've ever had in our home. They and their staffs did great work, and worked well with us and our schedules (that included hostpital stays, home invalid care etc all) while they were still in construction phase and they couldn't have been more caring and flexible to make the project work well and adapt to our new normal. They quickly responded to any concerns we had with the project and addressed them quickly and apprpopriately. We have already recommended this group to firends of ours and they are already on the job. We've been in our home for 30 years and have done a wide variety of rennovations and additions, none have been better accomplished than this one.

It was very good. They were punctual and courteous. They knew what they were doing, and they gave me a good indication of what had to be done. They got here, did the work and got it finished. I would give them all A's.
Description of Work: Mosby Building Arts repaired some cracked seams in the drywall and repainted part of the great room.

Mosby arrived in a timely fashion to evaluate the work site and the rooms at issue. Two rooms (bedroom and TV room) had worn old wood floors and two rooms (bathrooms) had old worn vintage white tile. Mosby advised that existing wood floors would not support slate and had to undergo major preparatory work. Mosby proposed to remove the existing wood floors in the bedroom and TV room, remove any loose and crumbling concrete, install self leveling floor resurfacer (concrete). In the bathrooms, they proposed to remove toilets and pedestal sinks, adjust closet collar to new height to allow for additional floor thickness, rebuild stop serving toilets, reset toilets and reinstall pedestal sinks. The proposal advised that additional costs may be incurred as the result of this work in the bathrooms. While we were pleased with the selection of tile available and the Mosby representative was courteous and professional , we were startled by the extreme nature of the work proposed, the probable disruption to our lives, and the high cost. We did consider the bid until we learned that a well established company could (and did) install the tile we wanted on our floors for 1/3 the cost and minimal disruption.
Description of Work: Above date is date of estimate and amount is amount of Mosby estimate. Mosby was called in to give an estimate of the work necessary to prepare floors in 4 rooms for installation of slate and porcelain tile. Another company would have installed the tile once Mosby had completed their work. Mosby gave an estimate of $27,036.36 just to prepare the floors of 4 rooms for installation of tile. If we had accepted this bid, the overall cost of the 4 tile floors would have been $32,968 (we had a $5,932 estimate from another company for installing tile after Mosby had finished). We did not hire Mosby, but instead hired a third company (one company that did all work) to do this job and we paid $9,500 for floor preparation (subfloor/backer board), slate tile in two rooms and porcelain tile in two room.

They were wonderful. My husband worked during the day and each night he would come hom and never have a clue they were here because their clean-up was so great. I was home during the day with them, but they were so quiet I didn't even notice. They made the bathroom still very accessible even as they worked. The overall service was excellent. The cost was a little high, but the quality of the work and clean up made it worth it.
